Michelle Obama just said:

"I stand here today at the crosscurrents of that history, knowing that my piece of the American dream is a blessing hard one by those who came before me."

Here was Barack Obama in his 2004 convention speech:
"I stand here knowing that my story is part of the larger American story, that I owe a debt to all of those who came before me, and that, in no other country on earth, is my story even possible."
In a column earlier this year, I noted how Michelle's biazarre comments about having never been proud of this country undermined Obama's patriotic message that made his 2004 speech so effective, so it's smart of Michelle to return to this theme. Overall, I thought it was a solid performance.
