The Spectacle Blog

The never surrender rhetoric of the Clintons has toned down several notches, and my guess is that she will in fact drop out of the race this week.

Yesterday, Hillary said:

"After South Dakota and Montana vote, I will lead in the popular vote and Senator Obama will lead in the delegate count. The voters will have voted, and so the decision will fall to the delegates empowered to vote at the Democratic convention. I will be spending the coming days making my case to those delegates."
What? Just the coming days? Not the coming weeks and months? That doesn't sound like the Hillary I know.

Meanwhile, Bill, who when I saw him in Ohio and North Carolina was still delivering a lot of bluster about how everybody keeps counting Hillary out, but she'd win the nomination, had this to say:

"This may be the last day I'm ever involved in a campaign of this kind," he told supporters. "I thought I was out of politics, till Hillary decided to run. But it has been one of the greatest honors of my life to go around and campaign for her for president."
This doesn't sound like a couple preparing to fight all the way to Denver.
