Jennifer Rubin hits something on the head here but doesn't give
it a name:
The second factor may be the
media's own reaction to the Wright episode. These overwhelmingly
liberal reporters were the cheerleaders who bought into Obama's
call for racial unity and were thrilled to root for an African
American who could transcend race.
The sentence reminded me of Rush Limbaugh's Donovan McNabb
controversy. Rubin's argument, essentially, is that Obama is being
McNabbed.
McNabb - [v. from the Divine language of Maha
Rushdie] - to be hyped in the press because of racial
transcendence, where pointing it out may have disastrous
consequences for one's journalistic career.
