John Bolton used his speech at CPAC to pursaude restive
conservatives that the stakes in the world (the Iranian and North
Korean nuclear threats, the prospect of nuclear weapons in the
hands of Islamic terrorists) were too great to sit this election
out because of their disagreements with John McCain, and allow the
Democrats to gain control of foreign policy.
Bolton said it was now clear that he would be the nominee, and
specifically addressed those who argue that conservatives would be
better off in the long run if Democrats win and mess things up than
if mistakes are associated with a Republican. He compared this
logic to Vladimir Lenin's declaration that "worse is better" and
said that "tactical domestic considerations" shouldn't be allowed
to harm our national security.
The rest of his speech focused mainly on Iran, North Korea and
nuclear proliferation.
