Nevada has a caucus on Saturday. It is big news for the
Democrats and the subject of litigation as each side tries to maximize their
chances of getting to the polls. (Far be it from me to agree with
Hillary but it does seem unfair to penalize those whose shifts
don't allow them to get away to vote for such a limited time.)
Without any other action between NH and SC (which comes on January
26 for the Democrats) it has garnering a lot of attention and is a
dead heat. On the GOP side the candidates are
focusing either on Michigan or SC or Florida or some combination
thereof so Nevada has been a bit neglected. Romney has spent the most time and effort
there. The latest poll shows: McCain 22%, Rudy 18%, Huckabee 16%,
Romney 15% and Thompson 11%. Does it mean anything? If the same
person wins both SC and Nevada it will be the exclamation point on
the day and lots of talk of "clean sweeps" and "unstoppable
momentum." If Rudy comes in second I think they'd be delighted to
be in the medal.. no... to do well. If Romney places in the back
of the pack after spending more time and money than anyone else you
can be certain that people will point out that he finished in the
back of the pack after spending more time and money than anyone
else.
