Oh, Wlady, Wlady, Wlady.... I do not see how it could NOT be a
coup for Thompson. If the gazillionaire onetime odds-on favorite
for the nomination pulls out of the race and JOINS your campaign
before you have won a single primary, that is a HUGE story that
immediately says, "Look at me; I've got something going on, dude." It immediately says Thompson is
viable. As for Romney, IF he loses Michigan, the choice is between
going home as a loser, or living as a loser who nevertheless
survived as part of a national ticket. I mean, again, the whole
predicate of my post was that Romney loses Michigan (NOT a
prediction; a hypothetical). The option then is, does he want to be
John Connally circa 1980, with a dead political career, or does he
want to be George Bush circa 1980, catching on somebody else's
coat-tails so as to remain viable another day?
