I wonder if these endorsements are too late to do much good.
Ideally, conservatives would have coalesced around a candidate
while voters were still forming impressions and making up their
minds. National Review didn't endorse Mitt Romney until
his early leads were already fading. Human Events came out
for Fred Thompson at a do-or-die moment rather than when he needed
the boost coming out of the gate. Of course, this reflects the
actual divisions among conservatives over the past year. And these
campaigns would surely rather have the endorsements than not.
