NH Mail Wars

Lots of talk of ad wars in Iowa but below the radar screen (at least the TV screen) in NH McCain is getting tough with his mailer on Romney's flip flopping. By making the specific issues into a global "trust" issue McCain tries to play to his strength-- character, integrity -- and raise the attacks on Romney to a new level. On one hand the mailer focuses on immigration but it really attempts to make a larger point. As we saw with Rudy, it is hard when you get bogged down in he said/he said and whether statements from one year are really in conflict with those from another, or just a shift in tone. McCain tries to get beyond that and makes a basic argument about character. So far Romney's lead in NH remains solid but McCain will try to put a dent in that lead and pull an upset which, if not for Huckabee in Iowa, would be the story of the race.
UPDATE: Meanwhile Romney goes after everyone in SC in front of a his first crowd of a busy day of 30(?!) people.
