I think whoever thought these lines were a good
idea may be queasy about now: "Americans do not respect believers
of convenience. Americans tire of those
who would jettison their beliefs, even to gain the world."
Those who raved about The Speech are getting
feedback like
this and others label it the
worst line of The Speech. This is where some self-awareness
would have helped the Romney Team-- if you understand the biggest
problem for your guy(credibility/conviction) you shouldn't
advertise it in neon lights in the most picked over speech of the
campaign. (And no I don't for a minute think Romney "wrote it
himself" unless he's spending time pawing through books for John
Adams quotes.)
