Following up on Jim's earlier post on last night's premiere
ofRediscovering God in America, one of the more
interesting examples of God in Washington, D.C. sits atop the
Washington Monument (completed in 1884).
The Monument's capstone is engraved with the Latin phrase,
Laus Deo ("Praise Be to God"). Although visitors cannot
see the inscription (from either the ground or the inside), it is
there, facing east.
Interestingly, the Washington Monument is the highest structure
in D.C. Coincidence?
