McCain Feingold Fallout

Ok, it's Friday afternoon so everyone is getting the last shot in. There is this story about McCain's potential $3M loan and an "independent group" putting up ads in SC for him ( how long before Club for Growth goes ballistic on this?) That prompted Team Rudy, which caught in coming flak from McCain earlier in the day, to take out the two by four with this (from the shy and mild mannered Katie Levinson): ""Let me get this straight - first, campaign finance crusader John McCain oversees a campaign that spiraled completely out of control and went bankrupt and now he wants a questionable $3 million loan? Doesn't quite pass the smell test, does it? Americans need someone in the White House who knows how to balance their own checkbook before they try to balance the federal government's. They don't need John McCain, they need Rudy Giuliani - who has actually balanced a budget and made a payroll." Actually I think the "independent group" business seems far more damaging than the loan since it conjures up the McCain Feingold "reform" parade of unintended consequences which left campaign finances a lot less accountable. That next debate is going to be a whole bunch of fun.

UPDATE: That was apparently not enough. Levinson passes on a long list of glowing comments about Rudy which McCain made over the last couple of years and adds: "Is this what desperation looks like? Bernie Kerik's issues have been known since 2004 and John McCain still had glowing things to say about Rudy Giuliani and his leadership. What, exactly, changed today? Best as I can tell, it's just John McCain's pure desperation in the face of a failing and flailing campaign trumping his so-called straight talk. It is truly a shame that John McCain has chosen to stoop this low."

UPDATE 2: Others note the irony. Will this finally get McCain off campaign finance "reform"?
