World Series Pounding

Judas Giuliani must be ecstatic this morning after last night's trouncing of the Rockies by the Red Sox. Short-in-stature but tough-as-nails second baseman Dustin Pedroia, a rookie, started the evening with a home run on the second pitch he saw:

Asked if he'd gone up there trying to hit a home run, Pedroia laughed. "I think I hit, like, 10 all year," he retorted. "So ... no."

But he admitted that he did head up there thinking about setting a tone. And he sure accomplished that.

"Yeah, it was great," (Red Sox third baseman Mike) Lowell deadpanned, "because it meant he could come back to the dugout and tell us how hard he hit that ball."

This guy needs to be leading battles in Afghanistan or something.
