Rudy left the trail today to go speak to the NATO Allied
Supreme Command Transformation Seminar. His remarks are here. (Well after this and the Margaret Thatcher-Tony
Blair-Gordon Brown tour he certainly lays claim to the best
travel/booking agent.) I'm sure the event was set and the proximity
to the "ask the lawyers" is just one of those things but it sure
helps to have your guy talking to NATO when he is banging his rival
about foreign policy. As for the speech, he reiterates his idea
that NATO should expand beyond a purely military alliance and to
regions beyond Europe, although he does not reiterate his earlier
musings that Israel might be in the mix. As he did in his
Foreign Affairs piece, he comes across as someone (the
influence of Charles Hill
perhaps) committed to getting international institutions to shape
up in order to further American interests.
