In
my column today at the Washington Examiner, I take on an
absurdly cartoonish view of conservative legal thought that is
prevalent on the Left, in this case exemplified by a dumb column by
Slate's Dahlia Lithwick. It is impossible to have a legitimate
political debate when one side is too stuck in its own head and so
(falsely) sure of its own moral and intellectual superiority that
it doesn't even make an effort to understand the other side. The
Left consistently takes that attitude toward the Right, though,
which is one reason it is so often caught unawards when the Right
beats it in the battle of ideas.
