Phil, that's not as bad as the GOP poll numbers. If you are optimistic
Republican, you think the money situation and poll numbers will
improve once a nominee is selected on both sides. You can say that
a GOP nominee will replace the unpopular President as the standard
bearer, Hillary will get the GOP's base juiced up, the money will
take care of itself once there is a clear opponent and Americans
aren't ready for her prescriptions. Maybe. But equally if not more
likely, the fundraising numbers you point to, the Gallup poll
numbers on the public's perception of the parties and the gap
between GOP and Democratic presidential fundraising totals indicate
a fundamental problem with the GOP. I don't think we're a 51-49%
country anymore. Finding a presidential candidate that can
delineate a message that appeals to and beyond the base and stops
the hemorrhaging of support will be no easy task.
