Dave, that story was out yesterday and I avoided linking to it
because I really don't think kids should be made an issue in the
campaign. It's bad enough about wives, but at least any wife who is
married to a politician at some point made a choice and came to
terms with the fact that they would be in the public spotlight. A
kid has no choice. I especially always felt bad for the way Chelsea
was treated. Granted, earlier this year, when Andrew Giuliani
became an issue, he was an adult who agreed to talk to the media,
so I didn't really have a problem with it. But the Slate story actually involved stalking a girl who is
under 18, and invading her privacy even though she wanted nothing
to do with the story. I think that crossed the line.
Of all the things I would defend Rudy on, his personal life
would certainly not be one of them. But for what it's worth,
yesterday his son Andrew said of the NY
Times story earlier this year on the rift between him and
Rudy: "That story was overdone. It was nowhere near as bad as the
story made it sound."
