As I predicted
(not that it required any special foresight), Christopher Hitchens
is dancing on Jerry Falwell's grave. Hitchens writes that
"there is no vileness that cannot be freely uttered by a man whose
name is prefaced with the word Reverend." This doesn't
really ring true; my recollection is that Falwell was pretty much
drummed out of polite society after blaming secularism for 9/11 (as
well he should have been). Recounting that episode, Hitchens shows
a Coulter-esque carelessness with the word "treason." Say what you
will about Jerry Falwell, but I'm pretty sure he never gave aid and
comfort to foreign enemies or attempted to overthrow the
government.
