I don't think it's commonly known (or at least mentioned) that
young Robert Bork was the guy who ended up having to fire Archibald
Cox after Elliott Richardson and his next in command resigned
rather than perform the deed. My understanding from graduate work
in public administration is that Bork agreed to do it after being
encouraged to do so by Richardson (or another superior). I've
always thought that actually being the guy who gave Cox his pink
slip may have been a big part of why Bork was Borked.
