Reading the conservative blogosphere on the Miers nomination, I
can’t help but think of that speech Bill Murray made in
“Stripes”:
“We’re all very different people; we’re not Watoosie, we’re not
Spartans. We’re Americans, with a capital A, huh? You know what
that means? Do ya? That means that our forefathers were kicked out
of every decent country in the world. We are the wretched refuse.
We’re underdogs, we’re mutts! … But there’s no animal that’s more
faithful, that’s more loyal, more loveable than the mutt. …”
That pretty much sums up the President’s nomination of
Miers.
We’ll try to write a bit more about this, but the level of
nose-in-the-air elitism playing out now among conservatives is
getting to be a bit much.
