Christian Josi: ‘R. Emmett Tyrrell Is a National Treasure’

by

Washington Times contributor Christian Josi’s review of American Spectator founder R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr.’s autobiography How Do We Get Out of Here? Half a Century of Laughter and Mayhem at The American Spectator — From Bobby Kennedy to Donald J. Trump is less a book review and more a commemoration of a years-long friendship.

“I remember sitting in Bob’s library reading drafts of different books he was working on. He wanted my opinion on all sorts of things because that’s how thoughtful people work,” Josi reminisces. “Bob Tyrrell, much like William F. Buckley and my other favorite writer, Christopher Hitchens, spent a lot of time listening and only a little time writing.”

R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr.’s new book, “How Do We Get Out of Here?”

Josi recalls late nights in Tyrrell’s “awesomely old-school” library and discusses the role Tyrrell played in his development as a writer.

“R. Emmett Tyrrell is a national treasure. You really need to read this book,” Josi writes.
