The Obama Watch

Israel in the Tank for Obama

It’s having fun with this visitor.

My late mother loved that joke about the cowboy who gets shot full of arrows by a band of Indian braves. When his buddies find him in terrible condition, they ask him if it hurts.

“Only when I laugh,” he answers.

One thing you learn quickly when living in Israel: the security of the State of Israel is a laughing matter. Citizens trying to survive in the trying political atmosphere over there learn to chuckle the doomsayers into oblivion. They guffaw, they cackle, they bellow, and they howl with laughter at every amusing situation that arises in the military realm.

Today they are all laughing again… at President Obama. Well, not at his policies officially. Nah, they would never do a thing like that. They view him with “the highest respect,” as Jackie Mason says. They are only laughing because his limo got towed.

Apparently the genius who is in charge of getting the President from place to place was not aware that the limousine runs on diesel, not regular gas. This fellow issued an executive order to start the Keystone Kops Pipeline, but the Kops refused to go on petrol. The Presidential party was forced to abandon the auto stationary and hitch another ride.

Now the last thing a serious commentator should do would be to see a metaphor in this fiasco. It would be ridiculous to advance the notion that the arresting of forward progress due to an intrinsic misconception as to the nature of the object, the subject, the energy and the catalyst is somehow symbolic of the failure of vision that is the Obama Mideast policy.

Yet we can hardly help but to ponder all the wizardry that has led to this point. The great Cairo speech designed to bring us closer to the Muslim world. The confession that the CIA should not have interfered in the Iranian government in the 1950s, when there is still no evidence that ever happened. The Syrian morass, the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, the Benghazi killings, none of these make us look any smarter or nicer. The Iranians have shown no sign of letting our famous “crippling sanctions” slow them down any.

All in all, that region has certainly grown no safer or friendlier since the United States elected a guy middle-named Hussein. Nor has the famously peripatetic Hillary Clinton era in the State Department made any visible inroads on any front. If all that incompetence provides any occasion for concern, wait until the Kerry-Hagel axis takes hold.

The good news for Israel is that the President does not like to undertake adventures that do not lead to quick results. There are no quick fixes in Israel, so the process is too unwieldy and unrewarding. To date he has limited his mangling of the relationship to such petty gestures as walking out on Netanyahu in the White House to go eat supper.

Now to liven things up, the White House leaked word that Obama would try to win the hearts of young Israelis by going over Netanyahu’s head to address them directly. In that vein, Obama decided to snub the Knesset and speak to students at a convention center. His State Department put out a video in advance of the trip and put up a map showing Israel with Jerusalem and the Golan Heights lopped off.

This kind of death of a thousand cuts may work in places where folks take themselves too seriously but not in Israel. This is the country where Jimmy Swaggart got off the plane after a sex scandal to be greeted with a sign proclaiming “Pro-Israel is the best position.” I was there myself when James Baker landed and was met by this banner: “Baker, go make your own bread…”

They figure they can outlast a guy like Obama. They can hold his car at the impound lot for four years. They can keep him waiting for a foursome at the golf course in Caesarea. They can nod their heads attentively while he explains to them that no President before him has read so extensively about Judaism. And they can give him a crate of Jaffa oranges as a door prize.

As for anything substantive changing, now that is cause for a good laugh right there. It’s like the old joke about the pale man with the pointy teeth entering a man’s bedroom at night. The man lifted his silver cross but the vampire just laughed and kept approaching.

“Did they sell me fake silver?” the man wondered.

“Oh, no, my brother-in-law only sells genuine artifacts. The only problem is I am Jewish…”

If more people would laugh at Obama, instead of acting as if he knows what he's talking about, a lot of things would improve...meanwhile, why don't we all go on as if he isn't here at all?

Jack in Wi| 3.21.13 @ 7:53AM

70% of American Jews voted for Obama and a lot of them dumped huge funds into his campaign. Most of them hate what religious Christians stand for. Why do we care what happens to this putrid pimple on the rear end of the world? Let Israel do it's own fighting and dying without any help from the American public. We have spent trillions of dollars and a mountain of blood covering Israel's back. The First Amendment forbids any federal help to a specific religion. Why are we subidizing the religious fantacies of the Zionists, and nuts like Jimmy Swaggert, John Hagee, Pat Robertson, and Jim Baker? End all aid to Israel now. It has always been unconstitutional, immoral, and idiotic. Israel is a racist apartheid state that should go the way of South Africa and the the USA. That is fully integrated with equal rights for all. Let Israel be a light on the nations. Let it not continue treating it's Palestinan majority worse then we treated our own blacks until the 1960's. Shame on all you Israel supporters for trying to lie us into another disasterous war with Iran.

Jacob McCandles| 3.21.13 @ 8:10AM

Israelis are much different than most American Jews. They will actually support a strong military. They are willing to defend themselves. We don't support Israel to appease the Jewish population in this country-they are our ally. They are surrounded by islam. Therefore they are friends.

Jack in Wi| 3.21.13 @ 8:58AM

Nonsense: Israel would not exist if it wasn't for all the unconstitutional and immoral aid that we have dumped in it. The Israel Lobby in this country owns both the Congress and the President. this has been disasterous for us. Israel exists. Now let this leach of a welfare queen pay for and support itself. This country is broke. Every week I work in food pantries and soup kitchens. There are many millions of Americans, who don't need their social security or Medicare cut. This country needs to end all foreign aid and foreign wars now. As for Islam it was a backwater for centuries until we went and stirred up a sleeping giant. The Muslims can't be any worse then the abortionists and gay mafia that rule this country now.

Jacob McCandles| 3.21.13 @ 10:17AM

No, actually it makes sense. You just disagree, and you seem to empathize with the muslims which I will never, ever, understand.

TLP| 3.21.13 @ 12:55PM

His Wife's Neice used to be the Plaything of an African Muslim King.

Apparently, she's now hookin up with an African American Black Muslim Crack King.

True Story.

I hope that helps.

Occam's Tool| 3.21.13 @ 1:47PM

"Leech." Archie "Leach" was Cary Grant.

The Muslims are far worse than you think. Jack. I hope the next time you are in Europe, you have your "Lunch in Tul Karem" moment. I will laugh and laugh.

Jack in Wi| 3.21.13 @ 2:56PM

I have been to Europe many times, and to Turkey and Tunesia as well. I saw a 5 story golden statue of Our Lady Queen of the Universe in Turkey. Could I see such a statue in Israel? I hope the new Pope continues the outreach to both Jews and Muslims and can mediate for better conditions between all 3 sects.

Occam's Tool| 3.24.13 @ 12:45AM

Tunisia. Damn, Fudgepacker Jack. I call you Fudgepacker, you know, to differentiate you from the fine American and true Patriot KennesawJack.

Understand, KJ, that if I ever slam a Jack, it will not be you, but will refer to the Mongrel Swine who is a Packer fan.

KennesawJack| 3.21.13 @ 9:04PM

I've finally figured it out. Jack in Wi is really Jimmy Carter. Damn. Should have picked up on that a long time ago. The "apartheid" reference finally flicked the switch. How are things in Plains these days, Jimmy?

Doctor Right| 3.21.13 @ 1:59PM

3 things in life are certain:

1. Taxes
2. Death
3. Jack's dislike of Jews

Jack in Wi| 3.21.13 @ 2:58PM

I have told you many times I don't dislike Jews. I just want the Zionists to behave like normal human beings and respect their neighbors, in peace. Shalom

Doctor Right| 3.21.13 @ 4:02PM

Yes, you have. But I never believed you then, and I don't believe you, now.

You are a dyed-in-the-wool, old fashioned, Father Coughlin-type anti-Semite.

Period.

You can sya whatever you want - no one cares.

And when you post idiotic, assinine things like "I just want the Zionists to behave like normal human beings and respect their neighbors, in peace," you display a vibrant combination of ignorance and intolerance towards Jews and history that is absolutely stupefying.

Sixgun| 3.21.13 @ 6:03PM

Jack... "putrid pimple on the rear end of the world" and "Zionists" and "racists apartheid state" and "leach of a welfare queen".... are you kidding me? These are the terms you use to refer to the Jews and you claim that you are not anti-semitic!? Give me a break. The Israelis do not treat the Palestinians harshly, as a matter of fact most Palestinians would rather live in Israel where they are afforded equal rights rather than live in the Gaza strip or elsewhere where Hamas really "abuses" them. Finally, there is really no such ethnic group as the "Palestinians". This is a made up people, the Brits started calling them this after they made up the name Palestine for the former nation of Israel. They are actually Arabs who stole the land from the Jews in the first place. Don't mess with God's people or God will mess with you, and you don't want that, believe me.

Jack in Wi| 3.21.13 @ 10:07PM

They are true comments describing what is going on. How do you get peoples attention if you don't use rough truthful language. My language is true. You are a racist and liar. The Palestinians have roots in the Holyland going back 5000 years. It is your gang that has no roots in the area. The Arabs never stole any land from you. The Romans kicked out the remaining Jews in 130AD after they foolishly rebelled against them. The present Palistinians are descended from Jews, Assyarians, Greeks, Samaritans, Arabs, Crusaders, Romans, Syrians, Philistines, Cannanites, African slaves etc. I suggest you read Dr. Schlomo Sand and his groundbreaking work called ' The Invention of the Jewish People. ' In this book Sand, an Israeli Historian, proves that most Israeli Jews are descended from Diaspora Jews who were converts to Judaism. You also don't give the Palestinans equal rights. You have stolen their country except for 6% which was purchased before independence. Israel is an Apartheid state where the non Jewish majority is treated worse then we used to treat our black population under segregation or under apartheid in South Africa. The Gaza Strip is a walled concentration camp. Your people of all people should be ashamed.

Oldefarte| 3.21.13 @ 4:50PM

The $3mil in foreign aid that was just given to Egypt would be much better spent if given to Israel instead, but apparently this idiot and those like him are now in control of dispensing out taxpayer dollars. Next they will subsidize the next airliner kamikazi mission into NYC office buildings while complaining about the Jewish control of this country and its foreign aid given to Israel. These morons can be also thanked for allowing the domestic terrorists' takeover of our current political administration due to their propaganda concerning the non-threat of the Arab radicals within the Middle East!!!!

Jack, you never let me down. I remember when I was in college one of the guys on my floor was Jewish. One of the other kids came up to him & said, I never met a Jew, is it true you have tails? I kid you not. Was that person you? Did you go to the University of Akron in '67? I know Jack, one of your best friends is Jewish, right?

Jack, the Jews in Israel think of gun control as hitting your target, in New York it means taking them away because no one should have more than 7 rounds in a gun. Besides, you could put your eye out with that thing!!!!

Stephie| 3.21.13 @ 9:01AM

Don't be foul Jack. For goodness sake.

Stan Redmond| 3.21.13 @ 3:00PM

Good thing Kind Obama [PBUH] is funding our enemies (Egypt, Libya, Syrian rebels, Pockeestan) with more money then Israel, the only ally we have in the region and a guard against spreading muslims.

Anthony| 3.21.13 @ 2:20PM

That's a good point Appleby, except I was disheartened by the raucus applause and cheers Obozo got from a group of Israeli students.
If Obozo has them, as he does the American left and most American Jews, Israel is doomed.

Jack in Wi| 3.21.13 @ 2:51PM

To Anthony: Good riddence to that Israel if it ever happens. The Israeli students, I hope, want peace and brotherhood with their neighbors. Pray for peace and justice for Palistine and repentence and brotherhood for the Israeli's

Doctor Right| 3.21.13 @ 4:05PM

Should they pray for "Palistine"before, during, or after the peace-loving Palestinians are launching rocket bombs into downtown Tel Aviv???

Oldefarte| 3.21.13 @ 7:58PM

Yeah, they're about as "peace-loving" as those PROTESTERS outside the Benghazi consulate!!!!

Oldefarte| 3.21.13 @ 4:54PM

The "justice for Palistine" could be accompolished by having B-52's loaded with cans of Raid to be deposited within the deserts of the ME!!!!

Jack in Wi| 3.21.13 @ 10:17PM

A senile old fool out on a pass from an alzheimer facility calls for mass murder and genocide of millions. I have never called for any violence but only peace and brotherhood. May the young people of Israel Palestine come together in brotherhood and peace. Shalom

Jive Bomber| 3.22.13 @ 12:14AM

Purp, given that this medal did not even exist until last year, it being awarded to any US president, regardless of party, is a first.

Besides, the Israelis know that handing out freshly minted eye-candy medals is not needed for a stalwart supporter such as a republican president. However, when it comes to a know-nothing like Obama, the Israelis, of course, can't take any chances.

I think Bibi, as ususal outsmarted O, by stating that O supports Israel's right to a premptive unilateral attack on Iran, and saying that O supports Israel more than any other president. He thus forced O into a position from which O cannot "evolve" away. While O said the usual general platitudes about supporting Israel, Bibi restated the generalities into specifics.
O forgot to tell the Israelis to check for the air in the tires of the limo, that is why it stalled. Or, did Bibi do that also?

Think of it. What would have happened if he had not gone to Israel first?

Delphi| 3.21.13 @ 10:56AM

Don't believe that? Read this from The Jerusalem Post, quoting Abbas:

"America and the Palestinian Authority are 'partners in pursuit to just peace that ends occupation and war,' Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday.

"In a joint press conference held in Ramallah with his American counterpart Barack Obama, Abbas said that Pslestinian officials 'had good talks with his excellency President [Barack] Obama.'

"He thanked the president for US committment to the Palestinian cause adn for the support to the PA Treasury.

"'We hope to exercise normal life over the free state of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital,' Abbas reiterated."

As far as one can tell from reporting, Bibi has mopped the floor with Obama. Not immediately but finally. It's been a sight to see. The big news here is that an American President has been regarded as an antagonist by Israel. It took some doing but this little tour certainly has helped.

"Process" must mean that one gets bombed while one goes about his daily business. And the Muslim Brotherhood is installed next door by your friend Obama.

It's in the news that the U.S. government has offered a $10 million reward for two American jihadists who have supported terrorists. I have a better Metephor for the broken down vehicle.

Revelation.

"And I saw the Beast rise from the Sea. And he was given a MOUTH to speak Haughty and Blasphemous words."

They say that the Anti-Christ will come on to the World Stage at a time of a Worldwide Crisis. The man named for Mohammed's Horse came to prominence in the midst of a World Wide Financial Crisis.

They say that the Anti-Christ spends most of his time In the Air, with his feet never touching the ground. The man Hamas claims is their Deliverer, and whom they've given the name: Abu Hussain - Son of the Father - is always on Air Force One. Always in the Air. His feet, always off the ground.

The Halfrican Muslim's vehicle is called The Beast.

The Creature that I believe is the Beast, is in Israel for the very first time since coming to Power.

He WILL NOT address the Israeli Parliment. Instead he will do what he has done all of his adult life. He will play on the fears of University Students, and the Hatreds of the Palestinians. He will seek out the Ignorant, and those filled with Hate, and he will stoke the fires of each.

The breaking down of The Beast at the site where The Final Battle will be fought, is a sign if there ever was one.

You'd have to be Purp's Benwahballs Collection to not see it.

SUBVET| 3.21.13 @ 9:57AM

Temporarily. My wife has already gone back to be with our #1 daughter and her own gorgeous, brilliant #1 daughter. I had to hang around for the friggin' final exams: NO ONE hates finals more than the teachers who have to write them and grade them!

I suppose I won't reveal my secret identity, Timmy, if I tell you that our #1 daughter (finally, after four sons, ferchrissake) is called Anna; her own #1 child and daughter is called Aileen Therese. She (our #8 grandchild) is beautiful and brilliant--but, yes, she needs the diapers changed. When I turn in the final friggin' grades (is there anything more important than God and country and 1950's monster movies and making a living?), I shall join them for diaper-changing and Easter stuff.

But I'll be connected to the internet, if there's a contest.

The limo thing is not all that hilarious. In the US diesel and gas have different size connectors to prevent such accidents. In Israel, perhaps, not so much, but who cares? It is definitely beneficial that Obama's view for Israel's future; nothing but a sandy morsel for her malevolent neighbors, was exposed to the youngsters who otherwise might not believe it. Billions, actually. They don't really need that much. The ones who are trying to annihilate them, fortunately, need a lot more--inasmuch as, like yourself, they are morons.

cicero| 3.21.13 @ 2:14PM

I think the Isrealis realize that there will be no peace with the Arab world. They are buying one day at a time, hoping for a miracle. Thus far, they have been able to win against every attack. So long as the weapons used are conventional, they will continue to do so. Of course, it doesn't help their cause very much when their (supposed) chief ally gives F-16s and Abrams tanks to their enemy next door. The game changer will be a nucear weapon close enough to reach them. They will not be able to survive if one gets through the screen. For them, the conflict is existential. For Obama, it is political.

This administration has done more to move forward the goal of a New Caliphate, than any other world power. For the press to ignore this, and for the Republican Party to remain silent about this is nothing short of criminal. We should be shutting off all aid to the area. Isreal can do just fine without our money. They have a vibrant economy. The Arab world cannot wage war without modern weaponry - which they cannot produce on their own. All aid to the Palistinian authority must stop. All aid to the Muslim Brotherhood, and the countries they control, must stop. If not, there will be a major war in the area within 4 years. Will we be able to stay out? Hardly.

Purp| 3.21.13 @ 5:28PM

Israel honored our President with their highest award, the Presidential Medal of Distinction. No Republican president has been so honored.
Guess they don't agree with you.

John II| 3.22.13 @ 1:08AM

Guess your head is in its usual place, Purpie--although I confess a certain astonishment at the anatomical anomaly. How do you do that?

alice921| 3.21.13 @ 3:43PM

this is definitely the coolest work I've ever done. Make money with Google. On thursday I got a brand new Chevrolet Corvette since I been earnin $5269 this-past/4 weeks and-even more than, $10,000 this past month. I work through this link,

A sound American foreign policy would involve a sharp break from both the mainstream Republican and Democrat line and a return to the Constitutional principles that this nation was founded upon. Our first President the Father of our Republic George Washington warned against getting involved in "foreign entanglements" and Thomas Jefferson declared in 1799 "Commerce with all nations, alliance with none, should be our motto". Many self proclaimed "American conservatives" pay lip service to the founding fathers while at the same time supporting an aggressive militaristic foreign policy that I don't believe a single signer of the US Constitution would have supported. If we were to head the warnings of our Founding Fathers and adhere to the Constitutional principles they believed in we would cut all foreign aid across the board (including to Israel as well as to Arab states), we would remove our military personnel from foreign lands and we would cease to use the threat of military force to obtain our geopolitical goals in the region and instead return to diplomacy and bilateral trade.

Occam's Tool| 3.21.13 @ 6:35PM

Jefferson smacked down the Barbary Pirates. Washington was dealing with a weak state holding on by its fingernails, not the superpower we have become.

Dimitry_Aleksandrovich| 3.21.13 @ 7:37PM

Protecting American commercial vessels from piracy is a far cry from having US military installations in over 130 countries around the globe at the ready to strike any state, individual or group of individuals that our government deems a threat to its interests in the region.

Oldefarte| 3.21.13 @ 5:00PM

Sadly, Israelies [like their fellow Jews here] are simply too polite. The latter continuously vote for him, while the former attend his Israel appearances. As was said at Calvary, FORGIVE THEM FATHER FOR THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Purp| 3.21.13 @ 5:21PM

Israel honored our President with their highest award, the Presidential Medal of Distinction. No Republican president has been so honored.

Oldefarte| 3.21.13 @ 7:45PM

And when he gives a wink-and-a-nod to Iran so that they can "Benghazi" them, those medals will become kryptonite to them!!!!!

Oldefarte| 3.21.13 @ 7:48PM

Polly Want a Cracker, Polly Want a Cracker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Purp| 3.21.13 @ 5:20PM

The President was well received by Israel and even Romney-supporter Netanyahu. Israel honored our President with their highest award, the Presidential Medal of Distinction. No Republican president has been so honored. Can you explain that? Guess Israel doesn't believe Republicans care one iota about Israel, huh?
http://thehill.com/blogs/globa.....-to-israel

Israel has been reminded of the support our President has given Israel, in particular, the Iron Dome project and support for a 2-State Solution between Israel and Palestine.
Laugh at anything you want, but this President is loved around the world and here at home by the majority of Americans. Why don't you?

Sixgun| 3.21.13 @ 6:29PM

LOL....you are truly delusional

Occam's Tool| 3.21.13 @ 6:33PM

I tell you what, Jack, I'll believe you are not an antisemite when you learn to spell "its," "Palestinian," "Palestine," and "Israelis" correctly.

A guy who would be happy with seeing six million Jews get wiped out is not someone I trust with the future of my children, shmendrick.

Jack in Wi| 3.21.13 @ 10:30PM

I don't want anyone killed Occam. You are the one always calling for mass murder and nuclear genocide. I am the one calling for peace and univeral brotherhood. You need to get your head examined. It is not normal to dream of and advocate mass murder of millions of women and children.

Dimitry_Aleksandrovich| 3.21.13 @ 11:06PM

I've been reading a lot and thinking a lot. It's Orthodox Christian Lent. Reading about the horrors of WWI and WWII just in the Balkan region alone has really made me opposed to any form of exclusivist political thought be it European style exclusivist nationalism or Wahhabist style exclusivist teaching based on their own narrow version of Islam.

Dimitry_Aleksandrovich| 3.21.13 @ 11:13PM

Maybe in a sense I am a born again constitutional republican that believes that equal representation under constitutional law and a mix of economic justice (not unlike the ideas proposed in Roman Catholic social teaching) is the best possible solution (at least in the time being) to avoid conflict between peoples. Of course those notions can only be carried out by a moral people who vigilantly safeguard their faith, customs and traditions. I also reject any notion that such societies can be brought forth through violent force (as the communists tried to do and the neoconservatives and liberal interventionists continue to try to do). The United States is truly meant to be the "Beacon on The Hill" but we've strayed from the path and the only way to return to that path is a return to the Constitutional principles that this country was built upon except this time we must be inclusive rather than exclusive creating a new American identity grounded in those principles and at the same time we must seek a return to traditional morality and an economic policy that benefits the welfare of all Americans and not just the Wall Street elite. That's just my thoughts for the evening. God bless you all these Holy days (Roman Catholic, Orthodox Christian Lent and Jewish Passover) and that means both Jack and Occam. God willing one day no mother on earth will have to mourn for their child killed in war.

John II| 3.22.13 @ 1:23AM

Mourn for HER child. Your bad grammar reveals much about your smug moralism. There will be a reckoning, Dmitry: have a care.

By the way, are you any relation to the great Hollywood music director Dmitri Tiomkin? He did the scary score for the superior 1951 version of "The Thing from Another World." Complete with theremin electronic tremolo, invented by that great Russian engineer Leo Theremin before he escaped from the Commie renegades.

Ah, those were the good old days, when life was simple and science fiction was merely scary and not yet ghastly.

Dimitry_Aleksandrovich| 3.22.13 @ 11:31AM

"Smug moralism"...all right everyone's a critic. I agree if you think my ideas will never be realized. My political ideas won't work for the same reason anyone's political ideas won't work. Power corrupts and eventually even the most well intentioned movements or revolutions degenerate into a racket. Still we shouldn't be so cynical as to not try make our nation a constitutionally principled republic once again. I'll tell you this much if the constitution is dead then our republic is all ready dead and in the next big economic crisis you'll see this country fall apart at the seams.

Dimitry_Aleksandrovich| 3.22.13 @ 11:36AM

And no I am of no relation to Tiomkin. The name Dimitry is after Dimitry Pavsky a Belarusian priest martyred by the NKVD.

evie826| 3.24.13 @ 2:40PM

Without a doubt this is the nicest work Ive ever had. On Tuesday I bought a brand new Nissan GT-R: from bringing in $9295 this month. I started this 7-month ago and almost straight away started bringing in minimum $83 per-hr. I use this great link,
