Origin of a Lie
Our president continues to misstate the truth.
WASHINGTON — I have long contended that public policy issues are as complicated as they appear because the giants of Capitol Hill like it that way, particularly the giants of the left. Bills can be written more simply. Decisions can be phrased with a certain lucidity. Yet, if they were, the electorate would mull them over and after a cup of coffee make a decision on them. As things stand today, with talk of budget imbalance and of esoteric matters such as “sequestration,” voters scratch their heads, blink their eyes, and walk away. Who gives a hoot? It is time for my morning nap, perhaps, two naps.
This is another of Washington’s anti-democratic ways that the politicians have bootlegged into our legislative process. Make policy so confusing to normal people that they will take little or no interest in it. It is all a game reserved exclusively for the political class. Al Gore in his new book, prosaically titled The Future: Six Drivers of Global Change, bangs on about the power of lobbyists and giant corporations in shaping legislation — do you know anyone who sits on more corporate boards than Gore? Has he considered the unwieldy nature of the legislation in the first place? Debt piled atop debt that even Warren Buffett cannot conceptualize. “Sequestration,” indeed — why not segregation or constipation? It is all Greek to me.
Then there is another of Washington’s ways, lying. Or just indulging in double talk until it reaches the point of lying or at least of deceiving. That is done all the time, and by both Republicans and Democrats, though the number one Democrat is showing himself to be a master in the art. Now, however, he is going over the top. I believe in his current row over sequestration he has misstated the truth so shamelessly that he is in danger of destroying the one thing he as a politician needs the most, credibility. Once that is gone he will have critics and even friends raising doubts about what he says on matters vast and puny.
The White House and the President have claimed that the present hullabaloo over sequestration has been raised by the Republicans. It was their idea, according to the White House and the President. That struck me as odd because according to my recollection in the summer of 2011 the White House devised the idea of sequestration to ease both Republicans and Democrats into a deal enabling them to raise the debt ceiling — remember the debt ceiling? Furthermore, if memory serves, included in the 2011 deal was a provision to bar any further tax increases. The President himself endorsed the idea. Actually, in his third debate with Mitt Romney he specifically said, “The sequester is not something I proposed.” No, “It is something that the Congress proposed.”
Now he is continuing to misstate the truth, but in so doing he casts doubt on Bob Woodward’s latest book, and that has aroused Woodward. Says Woodward, “My extensive reporting for my book, The Price of Politics, shows the automatic spending cuts [sequestration] were initiated by the White House and were the brainchild of [Jack] Lew [at the time White House chief of staff and now Obama’s nominee for secretary of the treasury] and White House congressional relations chief Rob Nabors….” And more: “Obama personally approved of the plan for Lew and Nabors to propose the sequester to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. They did so at 2:30 p.m. July 27, 2011, according to interviews with two senior White House aides who were directly involved.”
President Obama, you are being watched. I would not resort to such tricks typical of a community organizer but not so easily resorted to by a president. Too many people are watching. Bill Clinton could advise you on this. It is not wise to play cute with the historic record.
President Obama has a problem on Capitol Hill. He is not trusted. The Republicans do not trust him and Democrats are wary. My guess is that this Administration is going to find the years ahead painful.

Do you understand the origins of the sequester? It's the result of obama's failure honor a budget deal he made with Boehner a year and a half ago. They agreed to a deal, shook hands, but obama reneged (is that racist?) shortly thereafter. The sequester was a desperation move on obama's part to delay budget issues past the November 2012 election. Remember? Do you also remember obama agreed that tax increases would NOT be part of the sequester deal? Do you know he's reneging (is that racist?) on that part of the deal as well? Are you aware he's continually lied about every aspect of this fiasco, the fiasco he created?

At no time during the debt ceiling negotiations was there any danger of government default. If the debt ceiling had NOT been raised, there still would not have been a default.
Default, is when you do not pay your debts. The US government has two "defaultable" items in the budget...interest on the debt or "debt service," and federal pensions. PERIOD. Failing to make sure you get your food stamps and ObamaFon, is not default. Adding to the "credit line," is not default. There is plenty of income via taxes to meet these two requirements.
Now that I have explained this to you, you cannot say you don't know. The next time you spout the "default on the debt" drivel, I will call you out as a liar. Got it?

It is my understanding that interest on the debt is only subject to default if paying that interest would prevent paying to defend the country. It is in the Constitution. As you say the only obligation not met that properly can be termed "defaulted" are our bonds and other credit instruments.

Perhaps Mr. Tyrell has a point with this, but as a caution, these days the role of community watch can be fraught with peril. This time last year, a youthful community organizer (with a history of wealth redistribution) objected to similar surveillance from the local captain, and decided to resolve the matter in the Chicago Way. Of course, the seventeen year old (who looked like the son Obama never had) actually subsequently engaged the registered Democrat son of a local judge in their own separation of powers between the branches and levels of government debate. Unfortunately for the Skittles lover, he learned that his white Hispanic opponent was even more well versed in the elements of Sean Connery’s monologue from “The Untouchables”, and brought a gun to the fistfight, ultimately terminating the encounter in his favor.
It might be instructive for Bob Woodward (as well as Mr. Tyrrell) to recall what followed with George Zimmerman, and similarly reflect that unlike Trayvon Martin, the current POTUS has access to a larger array of arms than a bottle of Arizona Iced Tea and a 170 lb high school football player’s fists and physique.

All this talk about the "Sequestor!" reminds me that the Next Big Critical Crises is ... wait for it ... the Feral Govt running out of money again, soon. The national debt limit/cap MUST be raised allowing the Feral Govt to continue saving us from starvation, invasion, unemployment, asteroids, earth warming/cooling/remaining the same.
King O will say, "More Taxes From The Rich" and then he will define The Rich as anyone earning more than $200,000 (or maybe by the next round, The Rich will be anyone earning more than $50,000). King O will refuse to cut spending and will DEMAND that Congress UnCap the Debt Ceiling AND raise taxes for a balanced solution. King O wants it all, King O wants it now. That's "balance" for you.
If you think the bombastic horrors promoted by King O in regard to cutting $85 billion (Sequestration!) have been terrible, just wait a couple of months until he wants to increase the debt cap by $2 or $3 TRILLION.
And then we get to repeat the cycle next year.

What I believe these polls indicate is that many people realize barry's "Chicken Little the Sky is Falling" bull chips are not believable, but so far the events and consequences have not been dramatic enough to push them from their apathy.
They also have grown accustomed to the GOP stabbing the base in the back and we are frustrated that they are missing an opportunity to be Patriots instead hoping to be Nobles and Aristocrats in the New Serfdom.
But I fear and at the same time embrace that we may very well be sitting on a powder keg. When the Poop hits the fan, there are going to be a lot of angry people.
The Sub-prime collapse is over the head of the low-information voter like Perp and Twitvin, but I suspect that before too long, events will occur that even these morons can process. And when ignorant boot lickers have a chance to figure it out, the apathetic and previously uninformed will.

Yep . They may enjoy the luxury of life in the US , but they too need the basic neccessities . When those look threatened , all of a sudden gay marriage , gun control , whatever dsitractions that are raining down right now , will vaporize . The somewhat puny remnants of hurricane Sandy proves how these so-called enlightened will get primitive pronto .

This is the same sky is falling line they promulgated back in the Clinton days when the GOP congress under Newt "closed" the govt. down. Everything that was effected was the most visible to the public so there would be a cry of panic. Instead of cutting real waste, they pull out the ICE prisoner release, shut the Natl parks, lay of air traffic controllers, etc. so that all of us poor plebs get scared. They really do think the American public is stupid and they hope it will work this time like it worked in 97.

It is called something like the "Washington Monument Effect." Make it visible and make it painful.
It turns out that DOD has already announced 800,000 furloughs. But it is done before the Sequester date and it turns out they will get 4 days instead of five for some six weeks.
But generally the Federal workers are overpaid compared to the private sector and we don't get 20 years and out with pension and benefits for life. So since many of us have time to blog since there are no freaking jobs except Mickey "D" hamburger flippers, I have a hard time feeling sorry for anyone in government.

Bob's truthful points make one fateful ommission and that is that the American public is basically stupid. Stupidity is defined by those who are surrounded by the enemy and destruction and who fail to understand/comprehend same [and to attempt to eliminate same]. The public had two chances on 11/4/08 and 11/6/12 to do thus and failed totally, so now the consequences of their stupidity cannot be complained about. The public deserves what they are now getting and will continue to get. They made a choice to either vote for these domestic terrorists or to avoid voting altogether on these dates, and they must now pay the price for their combined stupidity [along with those of us who pleaded, begged and tried to convince them of the error of their ways, to no avail]!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since when did the afro-negro-half breed politician have any credibility? Street Cred? Maybe when he was attending the honorable Rev. Wright's church which he denied or distanced himself from, or when he brought the Communist Manifesto with him to meetings with Bill Ayers, he had something that may have passed a street cred, at least Moscow street red cred. Otherwise, forget it. The clean non-accented Chicago thug has no street cred. He didn't have any credibility with wise voters and people that truly know the cut of fabric he's made from. A white lie, a fib, a fabrication, dishonesty, whatever, the man is a liar and a manipulator. Sugar coat it, rub sweet spices on it and it still tastes of sh--. And we're stuck with lying for another 3 1/2 years regardless. Hitch up your britches, people, and fight back in any way that you can.

Well, when it comes to the “pro” political “teams”, these confusing days, the saying should be, “Eschew obfuscation.”, because so much spit is flying around that credibility is a non factor.

Let's not call it "Washington Lies"; rather it is Obama and White House lies. His next big push will be TTP in which he will do another end run around Congress, against the Constitution for free trade, thus severely cutting American jobs.
