Liberals continue their hysteria over remarks made by Dr. Ben
Carson at the National Prayer Breakfast last week. Carson, a
prominent pediatric surgeon from Johns Hopkins University, dared to
weigh in on healthcare — something he knows something about, and
certainly knows better than Barack Obama. In the liberal mind,
Carson committed a grave transgression; he had dared to disagree
with Obama, and in Obama’s presence.
In a discussion of Carson’s moral effrontery, Candy Crowley,
host of CNN’s State of the Union, asked her panelists
whether they were offended by Carson’s comments. “He [Carson] was
talking about the idea of, you know, weaving the Bible into some
objections he appears to have with the president’s approach,”
said Crowley, as if the president would never likewise do
anything so outrageous. Count Democratic Congresswoman Jan
Schakowsky among the offended. She told Crowley: “I think it’s… not
really an appropriate place to make this kind of political speech
and to invoke God as his [Carson’s] support for that kind of point
of view.”
In truth, what the likes of Crowley and Schakowsky object to is
the mere fact that someone publicly disagreed with Obama on
healthcare, and especially in the context of faith. This was sheer
blasphemy. For liberal Democrats, conservative Republicans are
never permitted to use their faith to disagree; no, only liberal
Democrats enjoy such freedoms. I could give a thousand examples
illustrating the point; I’ve written entire books doing so. For
now, however, here are some particularly salient examples involving
Obama, liberals, and healthcare reform:
From the very first year of Obama’s presidency, the Religious
Left (Obama included) incessantly claimed God’s support for their
vision of healthcare reform. This was no surprise whatsoever, just
as it was no surprise that the liberal press was not only not
outraged but silently supportive. There was nary a whimper of
protest from liberal journalists, let alone their usual howls (when
a Republican cites his faith) of “separation of church and
state!”
For instance, in August 2009,
Obama addressed a “virtual gathering” of 140,000 Religious Left
individuals. It was a huge conference call to liberal Christians,
Jews, and other people of faith. Obama told them that he was “going
to need your help” in passing healthcare reform. Christ-like, Obama
penitently invoked a period of “40 Days,” a trial of deliverance
from conservative evildoers. He lifted up the brethren, assuring
them, “We are God’s partner in matters of life and death.”
Like a great commissioning, in the 40 Days that followed the
Religious Left was filled with the spirit, confidently spreading
the word, pushing for — among other things — abortion funding as
part of an eternally widening “social justice” agenda. A group
called the Religious Institute, which represented 4,800 clergy,
urged Congress to include abortion funding in “healthcare” reform.
To not help poor women secure their reproductive rights
was unjust, declared the progressive pastors. As the Rev. Debra
Hafner, executive director of the Religious Institute, complained,
federal policy already “unfairly prevents low-income women and
federal employees from receiving subsidized” abortions.
Here we see the Religious Left’s continued perversion of “social
justice.” Behold: social justice abortions.
Other Religious Left faithful joined Obama’s crusade.
A group of 59 leftist nuns sent Congress a letter urging passage
of Obamacare. This was in direct defiance of the United States
Conference of Catholic Bishops, which insisted the bill “must be
opposed” because of its refusal to explicitly ban abortion funding.
The liberal media cheered on the nuns, gleefully exaggerating the
sisters’ influence. In a breathtaking display, the Los Angeles
Times beamed, “Nuns’ support for health-care bill shows
[Catholic] Church split.” Amazingly, the Times reported
that the nuns’ letter represented not 59 nuns but 59,000. Like
Jesus with the loaves, the Times (normally militantly
secular) had demonstrated miraculous powers of multiplication. Hey,
anything for Obama.
The nuns’ brazenness was matched by Speaker of the House Nancy
Pelosi, a Roman Catholic, who, in March 2010, invoked the Solemnity
of the Feast of St. Joseph on behalf of Obamacare. She urged
American Catholics to “pray to St. Joseph” — earthly guardian of
the unborn son of God.
All of that was prelude to what happened the evening of March
21, 2010, A.D., with a rare vote not merely on a Sunday — God’s day
— but the final Sunday in Lent, the week before Palm Sunday that
initiates the Lord’s Passion. Obama’s healthcare bill was passed by
his Democratic Congress. To Obama, Speaker Pelosi, and the
Religious Left faithful, Jesus had gotten his healthcare package,
and they had been his faithful handmaidens.
Amid that process, secular liberals in the press suddenly got
religion — modern-day Sauls on the road to Damascus. Their
political soul mates in the Democratic Party had spearheaded this
“change” in the name of Jesus Christ, and liberal journalists found
themselves moved to tears at the inspiring display. It was a rather
radical departure from the eight years they had just spent
scourging George W. Bush every time he merely confessed that he
prayed. At long last, there was room for Jesus in the inn, so long
as the Savior stood in “support” of the Democrats’ “progressive”
agenda.
If all of that seems hypocritical enough from liberals, in light
of their castigation of Dr. Ben Carson, consider this final glaring
double standard:
The coup de grâce from Obama came in no less than the
National Prayer Breakfast two years ago, February 3, 2011. Obama
stated: “But sometimes what I can do to try to improve the economy
or to curb foreclosures or to help deal with the healthcare system
— sometimes it seems so distant and so remote, so profoundly
inadequate to the enormity of the need. And it is my faith, then,
that biblical injunction to serve the least of these, that keeps me
going and that keeps me from being overwhelmed.”
Yes, Barack Obama, at the National Prayer Breakfast, had invoked
his faith and the Bible on behalf of healthcare reform — much like
he has done on behalf of gay marriage and a litany of other liberal
agenda items.

I don't think the Alinsyites can lay a glove on Dr. Carson. He is too good. They can't play the race card. He has impeccable credentials and loves his wife. They better be scared of him. When interviewed he didn't rule out running for office but will go where God will lead .

Gary B. You are spot on. Burlington, while I agree with you that Dr. Carson is magnificant, and laid low Obozo in one fell swoop, never under -estimate the hatred and the desire to destroy by the left.
Dr. Carson appears to be invulnerable, but the left have many ways of rendering their oppositon ineffective.
They will do a Sarah Palin on Dr. Carson, especially if he does enter the political arena. If he is able to survive those attacks, the left will simply shift gears and ignore him, as they do Dr. Sowell and other prominent black conservatives.
God will lead you say, I hope so, I also hope he has Dr. Carson's back.

Good points, Anthony. May I suggest you drop the "Obozo"? What you write makes it clear how you feel about Obama. Like others here, I agree with you, but use of "Obozo" is beneath you and is a distraction IMO.
Gary B| 2.13.13 @ 12:40PM
I like "Obozo." I like "Obozo, the Marxist clown" even better. This nation-wrecking, anti-American creep deserves every disrespectful label being thrown at him. He's a reptile with prehistoric sensibilities. He's the sum of the earth.

Anthony| 2.13.13 @ 1:19PM
I get your point Woodrow, however, I'm a firm believer in the use of ridicule when dealing with folks with dangerously inflated egos who are destroying America. It's my attempt at a metaphorical slap upside the head. Better this than the real thing, don't you agree?
Besides, my ridicule is nothing compared to what ridicule Obozo and his cohorts are doing to America and the Constitution. If Obozo can get away with calling Romney a "felon" then my use of this term is quite tame.
And unlike the feckless, cowardly Rs, I don't give a rat's ass if I'm offending moderates.
KennesawJack| 2.13.13 @ 2:01PM
Actually, I use the term Obamarx to describe this POS. Descriptive and dismissive at one time. As to Dr. Carson, anyone with the stones to do what he did isn 't going to go all weak in the knees at the notion of an assault from the left. We haven't heard the last of this good man and I get the feeling those who attack him will come to rue the day.
Gary B| 2.13.13 @ 2:20PM
The Democrats will dig through his trash. Karl Rove will come at him in two ways: a threat or a bribe - maybe both. It's what the GOP establishment does. Anything to get a popular conservative out of the way. Reagan simply overpowered them by speaking directly to the public. Of course, a little later they shot him. That didn't work either, but the unexpected benefit for them was gun control hysteria.
KennesawJack| 2.13.13 @ 2:29PM

Many people don't know that the blueprint for Obamacare was written by this man, a convicted felon, while he was sitting in Federal prison. He penned a detailed plan for the government to takeover the health care industry by instilling fear and distrust for the private healthcare market in the mind of the public.
I suspect what really riled Rep. Schakowsky was Dr. Carson's implied criticism of the fruit of her husband's jailhouse travails .

I wondered all weekend when TAS was going to cover the prayer breakfast and Dr. Carson's magnificent, IMHO, and brave speech. I watched Obama the whole time, during my second go-round and he laughed and clapped when he absolutely had to, and rarely. I also watched Mama O, and she did a little better. After all, he was winsome, funny, brilliant, brave, not at all hard to look at, oopsie, sorry that wasn't very PC of me. Lol.
I am so glad it was you, Mr. Kengor, who chose to. You are a man after God's own heart, and you wisely point out, once again, the hypocracy of the MSM and the rest of the mice and rats following their pied piper to their grave.
I wonder what they will try and pull out of their filthy bag of tricks next against the good Dr. C. The film made bout his gifted hands was on just a few nights before he attended the breakfast. Cuba Gooding did an excellent job of portraying the sweet innocence of Dr. Ben's prayers as he entered the O.R. for his first and later separation surgeries. This made it very easy to imagine Dr. Carson as he prayed before this speech at the National Breakfast. And once again, as it was very visible to this praying Christian, God answered, "Just walk out there, I will do the rest." The Lord can and does use Ben Carson's hands, his brain, and his vocal cords, with His Spirit and His Grace. Allelujah!
happytaxdude| 2.13.13 @ 8:52AM
My wife and I watched "Gifted Hands" last night before the SOTU. It was a wonderful story. And created an even starker contrast between Dr. Carson and Barokeydoke. One is a self-made, gifted healer who inspires and blesses. The other is a political parasite who pontificates and takes. May God continue to bless Ben Carson.
BackToBasics| 2.13.13 @ 7:32AM
As far as we Carson is not running for any politcal office yet it would have been good if any Republican leader had stood with him in his practical speaking about the key isues he addressed. RINOs hate what he stands for just as much as any democrat. Worse than that, RINOs cannot stand the thought of a black man being any kind of a prominant leader. They threw Herman Cain under the bus as quickly as they could too.
Robbins Mitchell| 2.13.13 @ 7:38AM

BackToBasics| 2.13.13 @ 7:46AM

BackToBasics| 2.13.13 @ 7:45AM
Speaking of RINOs lack of support for Carson again, one of the main reasons RINOs and democrats let Reagan lower taxes was that they thought his ideas really were "Vodoo Economics" and they hoped he would actually fail in his desire to renew America that way. Once they realized he was right they worked hard to never let another conservative win the nomination or presidency again. Carson may not be running for any political office but RINOs won't take a chance in the least and will never back such a well-spoken and practical man.
JimH| 2.13.13 @ 7:47AM
When did Lèse majesté become a crime in America?
Albert Constantine Jr.| 2.13.13 @ 8:26AM
To the Left, Dr. Carson has committed a more grievous sin than invoke God to embarrass the POTUS at the National Prayer Breakfast. In addition to his disagreements with POTUS’ policies, Dr. Carson also stands in contrast to the portrait of Obama as an example of a man from a challenging background with real and concrete accomplishments of his own, as opposed to taking credit for deeds of others to enhance his resume’.
It is for this sin that Doctor Carson must be punished by the Left, until he prostrates himself before the graven image of their chosen idol, and proclaims that he is not worthy.
CJW| 2.13.13 @ 10:29AM
Albert
I thought you knew that conservative blacks are not really black. Justice Thomas, although very dark, is not really black. Allen West not really black. Dr Carson is not black.
In 2006, Lynn Swann, the great Steelers Hall of Fame wide receiver, ran for governor in Pa as a Rep against Fast Eddie Rendell. First black to run for governor. You would have thought that would be a major story and major achievement, and that blacks would vote for him. No. The Philly vote was more than the usual 300,000 margin for the Dems. Rendell beat Swann by 60% to 40%!!
In addition to the usual biased MSM and Philly Phraud, I think the Dems imported Dallas Cryboys fans to vote against Swann because of his catches in the two Super Bowls. I have to ask Bob Grant about this.
Gary B| 2.13.13 @ 12:18PM
Right... an authentic black is a ward of the state and proud of it. None of that personal responsibility stuff for them.

Bob Grant| 2.13.13 @ 9:07PM
CJW,
As a FORMER Dallas Cowboys - Err Cryboys - fan, I can attest that the fan base circa 1978 would vote en masse for Lynn Swann, no question about it. His demeanor on and off the field was/is more America's Team than Terrible Towel.
But we're talking '78. Today, with the POS owner and his sycophantic Party Pass groupies who support the team, I can totally see them convoying in Greyhounds to ILLEGALLY vote for Slick Eddie. He's pretty much Jerry Jones without the bad face lift.
CJW| 2.13.13 @ 9:38PM
Bob,
How else to explain a 20% margin for Fast Eddy.
I always liked Landry, Staubach, and the rest. Jones really treated Landry badly when he fired him.

What team do you now like?
Bob Grant| 2.13.13 @ 11:06PM
In no particular order:
The Patriots because of the way the organization is run, very similar to the Cowboys pre-Jerry Jones.
And
The Colts for the same reason.

Truth be said, the liberals aren't being hypocritical. While the rest of us worship the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, liberals worship the god of equality.
When Jesus said, "Blessed are the meek" or "Blessed are the poor," liberals get all moist and excited, because they think Jesus was paying homage to their god, equality. But when Jesus told the adulterer, "Your sins are forgiven--go and sin no more...", liberals are offended, because Jesus was asserting his authority AS God.
When it comes to politics, liberals get offended when conservatives talk about God, because they know we're not talking about THEIR god. And theirs is a truly jealous god.

Here's a good and decent man, Dr. Carson, who espoused his Judea/Christian beliefs in a way that most of us can attest to. There was no twisting of the truth, and no pandering, not one iota, to the left, and that is why we hear this roar of outrage from their pawns.
I am sure many of you have heard this question from the communist/alinsky left, since the Prayer Breakfast
"Is this man smart/educated/knowledgable (place your own noun) enough to opine on such topics as health care, and affordability"?

Nature abhors a vacuum.
And, brothers and sisters, is there EVER a political vacuum, in America circa 2013! I must qualify this.
There is a massive vacuum on the conservative right, and on the socialist left, an anti-vacuum.
Despite the high flying talking heads, such as Limbaugh et al, there is still a dearth of courageous people, willing to publicly challenge the Obama crowd---and, voila!
A heretofore unknown black surgeon, Dr. Carson, I presume, takes his opportunity to speak truth to power, right in The One’s presence!
Supply-demand IS the law.
A conservative-right vacuum? Yes, there is certainly a huge demand for a great surge of supply, to meet the need. Talk about a time for hungry and ambitious people to step forward, and simply fill that desperate need!
Good news—study quantum mechanics.
It turns out that what we all take a vacuum to be, “empty space”, is not really what we think. It’s not true that there is nothing there! “Empty space” is a mental concept, only.
A physical vacuum is actually teeming with virtual particles, eager to pop into existence.
The current political vacuum is primed to explode with myriad Dr. Carson types.
Go for it, all you happy Obama haters!

All that having been said, and hurray for Dr. Carson,
the media are going to do what they are going to do. This is not a revelation to anyone. The real problem lies with the Republicans, not the Democrats. The Republicans had all the ammunition they needed, and blew the election for the White House when they fialedd to turn out their own voters. Now, those same voters are wringing their hands, and trying to push Carson out in front as the next savior of the realm.
The Republicans have to state their principles, articulate them on the basis that they are right, and not just what they think the folks want to hear, and run candidates who can stand on them.
The Dems have a simple platform: free stuff for the underclass, no responsibility for what you do, and we don't have a spending problem. A simple platform for a nation of simpletons.
The Republican have to educate the masses. Reagan did it twice, and won handily. He didn't pander. He wasn't perfect, but he was principled.

Catholics are always up for shenanigans in support of the liberal-utopian worldview.
Its frankly amazing how Rome tolerates the obvious and provocative dissent voiced by so many of the laiety and even the clergy in support of leftist positions that defy Church doctrine.
One is left to wonder why Rome doesn't excommunicate all of these people?
Gee...it wouldn't have anything to do with money...would it???
Bill8472| 2.13.13 @ 4:18PM
140,000 Christian leftists? Wow, that's getting pretty close to the number of saved after earth experiences the Last Days (144,000). Or something.
They only need a few more.

Hey Homos, heard ya missed me, I'm back..
Little late in the day, been doin my Dr. Thang, so sue me.
Actually DON'T sue me, even if I win, I lose...
But even as a fellow Brutha in the Healing Arts, what Dr.Carson did was a Chickenshit Move.
In fact if EICSSOTUS(Evolver in Chief Skeet Shooter of the United States) wasn't such a pussy, he'd have bitch slapped Carson right then and there, the nerve calling out a Politician at a Prayer Breakfast...
Thats what State of the Onions are for.

Dr. Ben Carson appears to be good man. I know more about him today than I do about King O after 7 or 8 years of his transparent "public" service.

The good doctor should take precautions; I would not be surprised to hear he has found his pet, legless and decapitated, on his front porch.

See, You non-Medical Rubes don't understand what Dickheads your typical Surgeons are. They get to pick the music in the OR, and if they're losin an argument can order everyone to shut up, just because they have someones life in their hands.
And I'm just talkin bout' your bread and butter Hernia/Gallbladder Surgeons, the higher you go up the Totem Pole, the worse it gets, and Dr. Carson just isn't a NEUROsurgeon, he's a PEDIATRIC NEUROsurgeon, because he doesn't want to waste his time on someone who's only got 10-20 years of life expectancy left...
And I'd bet my last shekel that Dr. Carson voted for EICSSOTUS(Evolver in Chief Skeet Shooter of the United States), just like Colon(Blow)Powell...

You know, sir, that I too am from Atlanta. Perhaps we should get together some time, and spend some time learning about each other.
If you are uncomfortable with the thought of meeting a single woman alone, you could of course bring Mrs. Drackman. From your online descriptions of her, she seems like a saint, that is, if your faith allows for the possibility of people being sanctified.

Nothing is more pathetic than Red State "conservatives" looking for their own version of an affirmative action hire, that "trophy black who upon declaring himself a Republican will trigger an exodus by blacks supposedly "trapped" on some liberal "plantation." Get real. Blacks vote Democrat because they know it's in their interests. They support a large welfare state and overt racial favoritism ("diversity").
White conservatives are as filled with racial guilt as white liberals. I see no reason even to consider Ben Carson for president. Were he white, nobody else would either. He's just the latest version of the Republican Magic Negro.
How about it if the GOP actually reached out to the white vote? You know, the people who normally give us a majority.
Dobbs| 2.15.13 @ 11:15AM
How do you "know" Dr. Carson benefitted from affirmative action? And where is this so-called white conservative racial guilt? Have you been listening to left-stream media TV claims that Tea Party people are allegedly "racist"?
Sixgun| 2.15.13 @ 11:59AM
Seek... we are not in awe of the good doctor's skin color, but rather by the content of his character and the content of his speech. Your thesis is the exact reason us conservatives are so glad to see this man lead the charge, it is so hard, if nearly impossible, for a modern-day, black man to break out of his gubermint chains and succeed outside of the gubermint plantation. It is mutual joy and that is the only reason his race enters into this discussion, otherwise, true conservatives don't really give a red rat's rosy a$$ what color, creed, race, or gender such a person is. We welcome all to the philosophy of liberty and freedom from gubermint tyranny.
spike59| 2.18.13 @ 6:06AM
Blacks vote Democrat because they've been told over and over and over by guilty white liberals that it's in their interests.
I see no reason even to consider Barack Obama for president. Were he white, nobody else would either. He's just the latest version of the Democrat Magic Negro.

I would think that it is appropriate to mention God at a prayer breakfast. As regards those leftist nuns, they are all candidates for that new religious order called the sisters of st. goofy.
Dobbs| 2.15.13 @ 11:12AM
PK, this is an excellent commentary. And I prefer "Obummer." In fact, I believe I was the first to use it.
Highsider| 2.15.13 @ 11:30AM
Yes, I am soooo offended that Dr Carson would invoke the name of God at, of all places, a National Prayer Breakfast! The man just doesn’t realize that these events are held in these modern and progressive times to pray to President Obama.
Not only that, the man was referring to the God of the Bible (you know, that rather sticky/picky one who disapproves of so much we say and do), rather than the progressive god we are all so much more comfortable with
StanAmSpec| 2.15.13 @ 1:06PM
It's particularly galling to the left, because he did it in such a class way. Compounding the pain? His real life story and his character and what he's done with his life far outshines Obama's.
Luan QiBaCao| 2.15.13 @ 2:25PM
Like the Democrat slave owners who, during the Civil War era, hunted down and lynched slaves that strayed from the plantation or disagreed with said owners, the current crop of Democrat "owners" and their willing "slaves" are wont to do the same thing. Watch your back Dr. Carson! The current of "owners" are sleazier and much more viscous.
dickdata| 2.15.13 @ 2:31PM
It was a banal speech with a few minutes of politics - an appeal for a flat tax based on Old Testament tithing and a pitch for universal HSA. It wasn't offensive at all, and I'm an EXTEME liberal. He was just expressing his opinions.

I just checked the LA Times story and the claim that Mr. Kengor makes about 59 nuns instead of 59000 is a simple lie. Is it possible for conservatives to ever make claims without lying?
spike59| 2.18.13 @ 6:03AM
i also checked the LA Times story-the 50+ nuns claimed to represent 90% of the 59,000 US nuns in their support of ObaMaocare

hahahahahaaaaaaaaa! OMG! The irony. The irony.
While writing the previous piece where Washington Post’s The Fact Checker gave Barack Obama four Pinocchios on a statement he made on April 30, 2012, I clicked over to PolitiFact and took a look at the Obama File they keep where they have three pages of statements made by Barack Obama that were rated false statements.
Obama- If the Supreme Court throws out the federal health care law, it “would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress.”
Truth-O-Meter rating: False
(PolitiFact- Slim majority, not unprecedented)
Obama- “For the first time since 1990, American manufacturers are creating new jobs.”
Truth-O-Meter rating: False
Obama- “Preventive care … saves money, for families, for businesses, for government, for everybody.”
Truth-O-Meter rating: False
(PolitiFact- Wrong in 2009, and wrong today)....

I feel like I just read a "Stoning Carson" sandwich. Mr. Kengor had 2 pieces of bread about response to Dr. Carson' speech and in the middle had a lot of baloney from a soapbox. Who cares what the left and liberals have done? Based on the headline, I was hoping to hear about a lot of left and liberal attacks on Dr. Carson. FAIL
