Monday
Brrrr. It is cold out here in
Washington, DC. Other things being equal, I would like to stay in
bed. But things are not equal. Fox News wants me to watch the
parade and comment on Mr. Obama’s inaugural speech. I forced myself
to watch the speech. I did not like it. It was as non-eloquent as a
speech could be. He focused on climate change, a subject dear to
the hearts of his fans — and more power to them. But since we
don’t know for sure what causes climate change, nor how much
climate change there has been, nor how to cut down on CO2 emissions
on a worldwide basis, I am not sure what he has in mind.
Look, I love the earth as much as anyone. I would sacrifice
literally anything to protect it from burning up. But I don’t want
climate change to be used as an all purpose cudgel to beat up
anyone Mr. Obama wants to beat up for any reason he wishes. We just
don’t know what’s going on and until we do, I hate to give up our
freedoms over it. And, no, I do not trust scientists who are doing
empire building with their arguments pro and con.
I also dislike his having only the vaguest words to say about
the debt, a genuine crisis.
Most strange of all, this city is an armed camp for fear of a
terrorist attack. Yet Mr. Obama did not even say the words “terror”
or “terrorism.” What’s up with that. We are at war with the
terrorists and the President doesn’t mention it. Huh?
Well, I talked about that a bit on TV after I had frozen for a
long time waiting to go on.
I did get to see Mr. Obama and his bride walk by. Then Joe Biden
and his wife, whom the announcer kept calling “Doctor Biden.” I
wonder what she is a doctor of. Being middle-aged and sexy, I would
say.
The best things about the day, BY FAR, were the happy faces of
the black people on the streets. Fine with me. Great. They have
suffered terribly and if it makes them happy to have a half-black
President, they are well entitled to it. Most of them have probably
done a lot more for this country than I have.
Later on, wifey and I put on our glad rags and headed for the
Commander’s Ball, the main event. But security kept our car TEN
BLOCKS AWAY, so we could not go. It was just too cold to walk that
far just to be in an auditorium with 44,000 other people. To think
that this shindig was so badly organized that invited guests could
not get even close to it… scary thoughts about how government
works. Alex was “crushed.” I was relieved.
Wednesday
Now I am in Greenville, SC. I
flew down last night. I am here helping our son and his family move
here. I had a great dinner at Trattoria Giorgio across from my fine
hotel, the Westin Poinsett, last night. Today I had a super
luncheon at Nosedive, a cafe in my hotel.
People here look calm and happy and sane. I like it here very
much. This town is a gem.
Oh, I forgot to add this part. This morning, I watched Mrs.
Clinton testify before a Senate committee about the disaster in
Benghazi. It was a dismaying sight.
Mrs. Clinton seemed to me to be making several points:
1.) It wasn’t her fault because it was all handled by people
lower down the command ladder than she was. But that’s nonsense.
She was in charge before the murders. And she was in charge after
the murders and knew Mr. Obama’s team was lying about who did the
killing and why.
2.) She cannot be blamed because she felt terrible about the
killings and cried. This is not an excuse worthy of a high official
of government. She is supposed to be a tough, sensible grown-up
about her duties. If she can escape responsibility by crying,
what’s next? Saying it wasn’t her fault because her father made her
feel bad because she was a girl and not a boy? Blaming her health?
What is she smoking or drinking if she thinks that the fact that
she cried about the murders in Benghazi lets her off the hook? I
once heard her say to Mr. Obama that “hope” is not a plan. Neither
is crying instead of doing.
3.) Anyone who attacks her has political and not patriotic
motives. But her management of the situation was a disgrace.
Senator Rand Paul was precisely right. She should have been fired
and more aptly, should have resigned over the lies about the
murders. Her behavior in covering up for the killers was political
and not patriotic,
It is terrifying that a woman of that level of irresponsibility
is seriously in the running for President and will probably win in
2016.
O tempora! O mores!

Hillary will never be President and neither will Biden. I went to 2 innaugerations, Reagan in 1985 and Bush in 1988. I had a great time. I even got to go to 2 presidential galas. Frank Sinatra ran the first one and did a great job. Everyone was there, Dean Martin, Liz Taylor, Jimmy Stewart, Barishnikov, Lew Rawls, Ray Charles, Pearl Baily. For the life of me I can't remember who ran the Party at Bush's innaugeration. I remember Sinatra coming out and singing. He was awful and seemed drunk. Then he said. " I want to sing for my Barbara. " The lights went out at that moment, and when they were on again, Sinatra was gone. Reagan's party was a lot better then Bush's. It was so cold at Reagan's that the outdoor ceremony was cancelled and he was sworn in, in the Capitol rhotunda. I was so far away from Bush's speech that I could barely see the stage.

I finally had a Five Guys hot dog yesterday after all the mentions in your posts. Mustard, onions and relish were all I put on it. Pretty good. I would buy another.
Hillary was horrible yesterday. She's a master excuse maker & manipulator- but it didn't fly yesterday. She likes the title, but not the work. If she had an ounce of honor, she would have resigned. But we know the answer to that one.
The gift from her testimony was the comment about men deciding to kills Americans - she made no sense there and it was poor judgment. Other gifts were those god-awful photos of this shriveled woman. And she had actually washed her hair - although she needs some root touch-ups - I saw some gray there. Hillary still can't dress, which seems to come with the Democrat women who have held the job. Condi was fabulous, but Albright was classic dowdy with a capital D.

Appleby| 1.24.13 @ 6:51AM
Hilary Clinton is about the same age as I am, and I am comforted by the fact that I look much better than she does. She sounded like a peevish crank and you could see "Oh, shut up" on her face the whole time she was on stage.
I did not watch a single word of the whole inauguration. It was difficult to miss -- Canada worships Obama, and the more the Americans dislike him, the more they bow down to him -- but by staying on the Discovery Channel, HGTV and EWTN, it was possible to do. And that parenthetical about the Black Folks being so proud of "their" President would have made Martin Luther King weep. I was also glad to miss MLK Day in Atlanta, by the way. White Folks are not at all welcome at any of the festivities and the predominant shirt is "It's a Black Thing -- You Wouldn't Understand." Oh, and that one with the guy holding the machine gun and it says "By Any Means Necessary." I wonder how many of those were seen this year?
drudge ette obama| 1.24.13 @ 7:21AM
Appleby, my thoughts exactly - yours are better expressed, however.
I watched none of the inauguration - and I flipped to the cooking channels and HGTV stuff. Even polished some furniture.
As a person who did spend MLK Day in the Atlanta area, I can tell you that the mood in the South has changed for the worse. Racial tensions are worse - people are separating more by race. Crime is on the rise..I don't recall this 15 years ago.
Quietly, there is movement to the hills and away from the urban crime centers. Business are locating to the outskirts - mostly Cobb County and Sandy Springs/Perimeter. Georgia Tech students are being robbed routinely - I wouldn't send my child to this great school because the campus and surrounds are not safe. They are hunting grounds for urban criminals. The Atlanta powers - Mayor Reed can't handle the safety and crime issues. He's too busy prepping for better political positions with Obama, I think.
It is sad that things have gone from moderate to bad - I imagine things aren't much different in other places.I remember the riots in the 1960s - I can see it happening again. Soon.
GobBluthe| 1.24.13 @ 12:09PM
Crime is Atlanta is falling just like everywhere else. Atlanta's crime rate is lower today than any year since 1966.
Appleby| 1.24.13 @ 4:08PM
That's not what I have heard from my friends and family that still live there. What drudgette said is closer to the truth. It was not a safe place to live when I left in 1998, and I was actually fired from a job because an anonymous employee said I was a racist. (I knew who it was, but they refused to confirm -- an accusation from a Black person is treated as truth regardless.) I recall sending a little note to the paper that since I didn't take sides in the race war after that, I was doing what a lot of my cohort did and fleeing to Canada. (Frying pan, meet fire...)

Thank you for reminding me that one of Hillary and Obama's great leftist heroes was the Marxist Saul Alinsky who dedicated his book "Rules for Radicals" to Lucifer: “Lest we forget at least an over-the-shoulder acknowledgment to the very first radical: from all our legends, mythology, and history... the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom — Lucifer.” Seeing how Obama's policies have the country on a bullet-train express to hell this song would seem appropriate. Joellen| 1.24.13 @ 7:11AM
Ben, you truly add to my suffering each day.
Let's start with "the happy black faces, they suffered terribly, they're ENTITLED to a half black President and they have done a lot more for this country than I have.."
You are the problem Ben. The American citizen is not ENTITLED to a President simply because he is half of their race. The current black people have suffered NO MORE than the whites, asians, hispanics, and every other race that calls this country their home; if anything they have made out pretty well in the past four decades due to "social programs".
If you really want to be honest Ben, the black people suffer by the Democrat party, because their Party refuses to acknowledge that they are made in the image of their Lord, and have the ability to strive and be as perfect as the world can allow. But their party says they CANT DO IT without their help. The Democrat party aided and abeted the destruction of the black family; the democrat party destroyed their educational progress; and the democrat party perpetuates their "inability" to get ahead, while other immigrants come, work hard and flourish - how can you explain that Ben!
Yea they suffer and they choose to suffer from their own party's limitation.
As for
Bob K| 1.24.13 @ 8:14AM
Ben ignores Affirmative Action. Blacks have 12% of the nation's population and hold 18% of the Federal Jobs nationally and that percentage is higher in Wash. DC. Blacks comprise 60% of the population of Wash. DC and 64% of the population of Baltimore which is why you see so many of them at presidential inaugurations.

What a magnificant performance byHillary Clinton. She has learned well from the Sociopath-in-Chief, POS husband of hers.
Bully, bluster, cry, and of course, just plain lie, that's the Clinton style. For this lying incompetent loser to get on her high horse and attempt to lecture a R senator that 'what difference does it make, four Americans are dead!!!" floored me.
Of course, if this R senator had any balls, he would have shouted back, "don't presume to lecture us, yes, four Americans are dead, because of you and Obama"
It was a sickening demonstration by Clinton and the Senate. And now, Clinton can prepare for 2016, instead of wearing an orange jumpsuit.

Butch| 1.24.13 @ 3:32PM
You nailed her, Anthony. Remember "coulda, woulda, shoulda" during her Hillarycare testimony? How she just contemptuously dismissed the question? The Repubs should have been better prepared.

I left it as soon as I could, and NEVER looked back.
Joellen| 1.24.13 @ 7:42AM
As For Hillary and your comment, anyone who attacks her has political and not patroitic motives
she was in charge and she is responsible for whatever happens under her supervision.
That's not personal Ben, that's called Rightous Retribution.
She can cry, slam her hands on the table, roll her eyes, and pretend that she is suffering along with those families of those who were murdered under her watch.
What is wrong is that after every news report of what transpired we have to hear how John McCain thinks very highly of her and they are friends - If that is so, maybe McCain should have been recused due to "personal" feelings for Hillary!
It's wrong that we have to constantly hear that Hillary is up for president in 2016 - without any futher comments and reminders of all the illegal and heinous activities SHE has been involved in.
It's wrong how you continue to circle the wagons for those like Hillary who continues, like Obama, to fradulently control the reigns of this country, and cause destruction and chaos everywhere they go, and then to have you chastise those who dare to call it out.
It's not politics Ben, its business, and if you dont have the stomach to make sure this republic runs like it should, maybe you should retire, and allow those who wish to take up the challenge to report, not their feelings, but the facts.
Let the American People hear the truth Ben, even when it's "too hard to handle".

4 dead in Benghazi. No one in jail, no one indicted, no one, no one, no one, no one. What does it matter?
spike59| 1.24.13 @ 9:38AM
no, that's not exactly true...there is ONE person in jail: the 'film'maker so thoroughly denounced as the villain by Shrillary even before Ambassador Stevens' body was cold
TLP| 1.24.13 @ 10:04AM
I wonder if Niel Young wouldn't mind coming up with a Song about this, like he did about Kent State when he was with CSNY?
Instead of: "Four dead in O-Hi-O"? It can be: "Four dead in Ben-Gha-Zi".
No soldiers, Al Qaeda's coming
They're totally on their own
Obama says Terror's over
Four dead Benghazi
Gotta get down on the ground
Al Qaeda is Cutting us down
Should've been Evacuated long ago
Hillary knew them
And saw them Killed on the ground
How could She say she didn't know
Repeat first Stanza.

OBOZO LIED
Obozo lied the ambassador died
It wasn't the video Obama
It was you bragging on Osama.
Four Americans are dead
It was the video Obozo said
Hillary and Rice kept to the lie
How many more Americans must die?
What difference does it make?
So said Hillary, the pretender fake
Through my neglect 4 men are dead
But my ambitions will still be fed
It's important for me to survive
In order for this nation to thrive
2016 will be my hour of glory
Noone will tell the Benghazi story.

I agree.
It was bad enough we had Bubba ignoring the terrorist threats and attacks such as the 1993 WTC, USS Cole, Khobar Towers, two embassy attacks, etc. while he harassed and groped women for eight years. This led to the Sept 11 attack since the terrorists viewed us as weak.
Then on his way out this lovely couple sold pardons to criminals like Marc Rich for one million, approved by Eric Holder. But it seems the worst part of the Bubba legacy is we have Lady Bubba still around.
But then she is the smartest woman in the world, fighting the vast right wing conspiracy, saving our children, and making $100,000 from a $1,000 investment in cattle futures simply by reading the WSJ.
Pecos Pete| 1.24.13 @ 9:20AM

The MSM have the ear of the great mass of low-information dolts who vote in this country. Watch for the push to overturn the 22nd amendment after 2014. There is so little reason for optimism. It is fascinating, in a grotesque way, to watch a once-great country commit suicide.

No masking of his distaste for the purple-lipped pretender in the White House and the hideous Sec. of State this time either. Very good column. Keep it up Stein.

The dems were worried enough about Clinton's testimony on Benghazi that they made the announcment that women could now have combat roles the same day of Clinton's testimony to draw attention away from her.
What a royal joke; she says "maybe" the guys were "out for a stroll" and just decided to grab some rocket launchers and rifles and kill some Americans.
As for "what difference does it make," the dems are always saying such things like if taking guns away saves the life of just ONE person then it's worth it to take them away. If mistaken policy had cost the lives of 4 million instead of 4 would she say, "what difference does it make?"
She has the nerve to say, "what difference does it make" and then goes on to act weepy when talking about receiving their caskets and hugging family members.
loulou| 1.24.13 @ 11:02AM
What does "accepting full responsibility" actually mean? Janet Reno (that fugly freak) accepted full responsibility for killing women and children (!) in Waco yet whe went scot free.
I'd believe Cankles only if she would show her shame for causing the death of 4 Americans by committing hari kari.

I have a sense that Hillary Clinton is this generation's Herbert Hoover. Viewed as brilliant and a no nonsense problem solver before he was elected.
Hillary has all the classic signs of incompetence. She is convinced of her spectacular intelligence. She can convince others of her spectacular skills and intelligence. Yet she is a complete failure. As First Lady, she blew health care, couldnt handle the Travel Office and she was publicly humiliated by her husband. In her 2000 Senate run she ran more than 10 points behind Gore in NY. As SOS she is a buffoon.
I think she will win if she runs. She will be a bigger disaster than Obama.

obadiah| 1.24.13 @ 3:11PM
Clinton is certainly a more convenient target for abuse than Obama these days. The Benghazi dead need to be hung around her neck along with Monica Lewinsky. So what if she's old and sick. Democrats deserve abuse because of the way Obama abused Romney. With smears like "vulture capitalist" that they stole from Newt.
Abusing Hillary is part of the fight against the Climate Change Hoax. Can't do anything about the weather. Unlike the War on Terror that required immediate and total abandonment of all budgetary and constitutional restraints, nothing can be done on weather mitigation until everyone agrees as to the details. There's no urgency on this.

"Dr." Jill Biden, got her degree/s in education. The "College of Education" at almost any university you can name is generally referred to as the "intellectual sewer." 1: Annual Mortality Rate of 51 yr old Black Men(Smokers)
2: Annual Mortality Rate of 69 year old White Men(Hair Implants)
Multiply those together, and Volla, you have the probability of a President Boehner(Beaners!!!!!!Beaners!!!!!!!!!!) in 2013....

Marc Jeric| 1.24.13 @ 5:47PM
Hillary Clinton gave her “testimony” on the Benghazi murder cover-up. It was on a par with her grand jury testimony in connection with “the lost paperwork” showing her criminal acts while in Little Rock law office. She then declared 145 times “I don’t recall” and “I don’t remember” in the course of that 2-hour “testimony”. That Benghazi murder by some out-of-control members of the Libyan jihadist government has now been whitewashed forever. But the fact remains that the Arab Spring program designed by Obama to bring jihadist governments to Muslim countries was compromised there for a while.
Rhoetus| 1.24.13 @ 8:21PM

Rhoetus| 1.24.13 @ 11:01PM
Dear Mr. Stein, The Sec of State is a political appointment and Mrs. Clinton is under the authority of the President. It is congress' responsibility to over see the actions and policies of the State Department. I don't care if Hillary cries or if going after her is politically motivated. It is just part of the checks and balances. She is either a grown-up and takes responsibility or she lies (again) and tries to hide behind her husband or the President who both happen to be men.
