Mitt’s Margin of Victory

The Romney campaign has a real chance to win the White House tonight.

GAHANNA, Ohio — By the time Mitt Romney took the stage Monday night for his next-to-last Ohio “Victory Rally” at the Columbus airport hangar of Landmark Aviation, thousands were already lining up to see him 750 miles east in New Hampshire, where the Republican presidential candidate was scheduled for a rally three hours later. Romney’s campaign speech was nothing new, the text having scarcely changed in the past week, but what was newsworthy were the crowds — large and enthusiastic or, as Barack Obama often said during his historic 2008 campaign, “fired up and ready to go.”

If Americans want to know whether Romney has the executive skill needed to deliver on his promises to revive the U.S. economy and restore the nation’s morale, let them look no further than the brilliant campaign the former Massachusetts governor and his staff have run. Against all odds, and despite the enormous challenges of taking on an incumbent Democrat adored by the media elite, Romney has brought the GOP to Election Day with a real hope of victory.

A win by Romney will be difficult, but it is clearly a real possibility. Monday was a big day for predictions. Several bloggers offered their own Electoral College maps, with many predicting that Romney would win with more than 300 Electoral College votes (ECVs), but anything more than 270 ECVs is a victory, and Republicans will be celebrating even if Mitt squeaks by with the narrowest of margins.

Predictions are above my pay-grade — let the “experts” handle that — but describing contingencies is certainly within my capacity, and there are three such “if/then” scenarios that would take Romney to victory by the most direct path:

Contingency One: Virginia. Polls close at 7 p.m. ET in the Old Dominion, the earliest of any major battleground state. The key question here — the big “if” — is whether the actual votes for Romney exceed his numbers in opinion polls. Nearly every recent poll shows Virginia a virtual tie, with President Obama holding less than a one-percent advantage in the Real Clear Politics average of polls for the state. But folks on the ground in Virginia report high levels of Republican enthusiasm, and there are indications from early voting that Obama will fall well short of the numbers that made him the first Democrat to win Virginia since 1964. Watch as the results Virginia come in tonight: If Mitt establishes a steady lead of five or six points (52 or 53 percent) as the night goes on, this will mean that the polls (which show Romney at about 48 percent) have substantially underestimated GOP strength. Therefore, if the actual Republican vote exceeds the poll predictions in Virginia, then the same is likely true elsewhere. On the other hand, if Romney doesn’t win Virginia — perish the thought! — his road to 270 ECVs becomes nearly impossible. Keep an eye on Loudoun County, which George W. Bush won with 56 percent of the vote in 2004, but Obama won with 54 percent in 2008. Should this affluent Northern Virginia county tip back toward the GOP column, it would not only likely mean a Romney win in Virginia, but could be a bellwether of results in other similar upscale suburban communities that shifted from Republican to Democrat four years ago.

Contingency Two: Florida. Polls in the Sunshine State have gyrated wildly in the past two weeks. By mid-October, it seemed Romney had such a solid advantage in Florida that there were rumors that the Obama campaign had scratched the state off its map. However, when subsequent polls showed Obama recovering in Florida — including a Marist survey that put the Democrat ahead by 2 points — the Romney campaign was compelled to schedule extra visits there. Like Virginia, Florida is a must-win in any realistic Electoral College map for Romney. The bellwether in Florida is Hillsborough County, which Bush won with 53 percent in 2004, but Obama won by the same margin in 2008. Whoever wins Hillsborough will likely win the whole state.

Contingency Three: Ohio. If Romney loses either Virginia or Florida, he’s toast, but Republican operatives I trust assure me that both of those states look like winners for the GOP. Therefore, the crucial vote will probably come in the Buckeye State. Should Mitt add Ohio’s 18 ECVs to his column, Obama’s hopes for re-election will be desperately endangered. And as I’ve been telling people for the past week, the key to Romney’s hopes in Ohio is Butler County. The Cincinnati suburb is the largest repository of Republican votes in this state. As the results begin coming in from Ohio tonight, I’ll be keeping an eye on Butler County: If Romney’s totals there look like Bush’s 66 percent in 2004, then you can probably start calling him “President-elect” Romney. If, however, Romney’s results in Butler County are closer to the 61 percent that John McCain got in 2008 …

Perish the thought. There are alternative scenarios whereby Romney could lose Ohio and still get to the 270 ECVs needed for election, but none of them are very likely. If Romney loses Ohio, he is unlikely to win any of the states that figure into the alternatives — Wisconsin, Iowa, New Hampshire or Pennsylvania. In all likelihood, it’s Ohio or bust for Mitt, but the hopeful news is that the Buckeye State is clearly winnable for the Republican. The margin of victory may be largely due to an unprecedented get-out-the-vote effort by the GOP here.

There has been endless talk, much of it speculative in nature, about which party was doing better among early voters, but the ultimate Republican edge could come down to the old-fashioned Election Day turnout. Yesterday, Republican National Committee political director Rick Wiley sent out a memo bragging that Republicans “are poised to blow the Obama campaign out on Election Day thanks to a superior GOTV program and a historical GOP Election Day advantage.”

Is that a mere boast? It’s hard to tell, but the smile on the face of RNC chairman Reince Priebus seemed entirely genuine last night when he appeared on Fox News and told Greta Van Susteren: “We’ve got all the energy on the ground and the Democrats don’t.”

This election is do or die for America....Socialism or freedom, take your pick today.

Alan Third Party Voter Brooks | 11.6.12 @ 7:32AM

"The growth of entitlement spending over the past half-century has been distinctly greater under Republican administrations than Democratic ones. Between 1960 and 2010, the growth of entitlement spending was exponential — but in any given year, it was on the whole over 8 percent higher if the president happened to be a Republican rather than a Democrat. . . . The Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford and George W. Bush administrations presided over especially lavish expansions of the entitlement state."

Jack in Wi| 11.6.12 @ 7:40AM

The election is way too close for me. I fear it will be stolen in the university wards and inner city of my state. The same is true in Pennsylvania in Phildelphia, Virgina in Richmond and the Washington suburbs, and Ohio in the inner cities. I predict if Romney should win New Hampshire , by a good amount and Virginia and Florida he will do all right. If not it will be a very short night and we can look to Obama for another 4 years. We got through the first four and lets hope we don't have to get through another four. I fear if Obama is re-elected he and his pals will build a machine like Chicago where they will never be thrown out.

gene| 11.6.12 @ 8:03AM

It was "close" in 1980 with the experts talking about all the "Swing" states. Reagan took them all and buried Carter. I do not think that the Obama minions can steal enough votes to take this. There are just too many people hurting out there. There are so many people losing sleep over this election. I truly believe that Romney will sweep this thing.
Of course, I also told people once that MASH would never make it as a TV Series. So maybe your fears are real and I am in for a big shock tomorrow.

MASH sucked.

DTOM| 11.6.12 @ 9:02AM

Uh, Jack, did you miss the recall election in June? Gov. Walker was polling where Mitt is polling today; and the Gov won by 7 points. Oh and the Democrats' national "mighty GOTV machine" was focused entirely on that one race.

Man up, Jack it's going to be fine. Just get you wrinkly, ol' ass out and vote for Mitt and Paul.

Jack.| 11.6.12 @ 9:50AM

I don't think people over the age of 70 should be allowed to vote because of their diminished ability to make intelligent, reasonable decisions.

gene| 11.6.12 @ 12:36PM

I do not disagree with you about their diminished abilities. However, I am just as fearful of the ones under 70 who have diminished abilities.

In 10 years, they will be pushing on old people what they have been pushing on unborn babies. They will justify everything with statements about mercy and quality of life, and diminished abilities. And as soon as you have to start using "Depends"? They will take you down to the nearest Euthanasia Center and tell you that you are going out for Ice Cream. I will choose the color "Blue" and ask for classical music. Maybe the "Nut Cracker" by Tchaikovsky. I forget what Edward G. Robinson asked for in "Soylent Green".

Jack.| 11.6.12 @ 2:58PM

I must say that you have given me a laugh with the line "As soon as you have to start using Depends they will take you down to the nearest Euthanasia Center and tell you that you are going out for ice cream."

However, in all seriousness, I hope we will soon have the choice of asking for euthanasia. I want to have some control over how I die.

Flavius Ocatavius| 11.6.12 @ 3:20PM

I say the same thing about those under the age of 30.

Cobalt| 11.6.12 @ 8:45AM

"This election is do or die for America....plutocracy or freedom, take your pick today"

Totalitarianism is not freedom, whether it is leftwing communism, or rightwing fascism.

Obama and company must be defeated today.

Capitalism or statism, take your pick today.

vtwin| 11.6.12 @ 9:20AM

“Totalitarianism is not freedom, whether it is leftwing communism, or rightwing fascism.” Agreed, but a vote for Romney is to surrender one’s freedom to another tyranny, a tyranny of American's corporations, Wall Street Bankers, and the wealthy.

Today Obama is freedom's best hope.

Anthony| 11.6.12 @ 9:52AM

"Today Obama is freedom's best hope."
Tell that to the families of the four Americans Obozo left to die in Benghazi, in order to save his political ass, moron.
When they begged the Commander-in-Chief for help, Obozo was AWOL. After today, Obozo is TOAST.

vtwin| 11.6.12 @ 10:18AM

Anthony, how does leaving “four Americans…to die in Benghazi…when they begged the Commander-in-Chief for help… save his political ass?” Wouldn’t it have more politically advantageous to save the four American? Every wonder why your clients are always new clients?

KennesawJack| 11.6.12 @ 10:43AM

How could it possible be to his political advantage if no one knows about it?

KennesawJack| 11.6.12 @ 10:44AM

Damnit! "possibly" not "possible". Can we PULEEZE get an edit button on this cheapskate site?

TLP| 11.6.12 @ 12:43PM

Use your Imaginary One.

Oh, right. You didn't win one .

KennesawJack| 11.6.12 @ 1:21PM

Been meaning to talk with you about that, Tim.

Anthony| 11.6.12 @ 11:19AM

No vtwin, and you should understanding the thinking of Obozo, as it dove tails with lefty morons such as yourself.
1) Obozo wanted no military presence there because of his fear of offending Muslims, despite the pleas for increased security, which plays into his anti-American thinking and the appeasement mentality of his idiot base, namely you. That's why what protection they had was local, who were in on the attack, and gave up the Ambassador. Hence the cover up that this was a reaction to the video and not pre planned.
2) He and Clinton were deathly afraid that any "rescue" would end in either the deaths of these Americans, American rescue troops, possible hostages for TV propaganda purposes right before an election, and more to the point, the death of some Libyans. Hence, Obozo was not going to take that chance weeks before an election. This is the exact same cowardice thinking of Bill Clinton's in Somalia.
So Obozo did NOTHING and left them on their own to DIE. And the whores in the MSM have been carrying his water ever since.
BTW, my clients are both new and old. I have many new clients, who come to me because they don't want to be repeat clients. I have many old clients who wish to remain well represented when situations occur.
However, I do have some fools like you for that special type of repeat business. They get charged more the 2nd time around.

Ralph Novy| 11.7.12 @ 4:14AM

Cuckoo!
Cuckoo!

Left the four Americans to die in Benghazi in order to save his political ass? How, exactly, would THAT work, Einstein?

Try reading what you write before you post it, eh?

Ryan| 11.6.12 @ 10:45AM

Right...because bailing out corporations is entirely a conservative/right-wing/free-market response.

Like...GM, Chrysler, Solyndra, Lehman, Goldman Sachs, Fannie, Freddie...

Obama's administration is as corporatist as you fear any Republican's would be.

Dave Williams| 11.6.12 @ 12:30PM

vtwin, you moron...corporations CANNOT be tyrants!!!! Can they put you in jail? NO! But the government -- yes, that same government so beloved by you leftie dolts -- CAN!!! Republicans are for freedom, DemonRats for tyranny, and we will see tonight who prevails.

Cpm| 11.6.12 @ 1:31PM

Today? What in hell has he been doing for the last 4 years? NOTHING.

Ralph Novy| 11.7.12 @ 4:18AM

Nothing, eh? Yeah, he's been in suspended animation in the White House basement.

Oh ... except that he's somehow been able to take over health care, run up the deficit, apologize to terrorists, persecute Christians and generally put the country on a path to communist dictatorship.

Imagine what he could have done if he hadn't been busy doing nothing.

Anthony| 11.6.12 @ 9:19AM

Voting against the Muslim Marxist and the whores in the MSM this morning was more fun than sex, except the kind vtwin engages in.
Voting against the Muslim Marxist and the whores in the MSM this morning was more fun than bitchslapping vtwin at his favorite massage parlor, but unlike voting, unless of course you're a D, we too get to do this again and again!!!!.
It's already a great day!!!

Anthony| 11.6.12 @ 9:37AM

Jeez vtwin, you gotta take break from your kink for faceslapping, it's truly making you punchy. How's it going over at Pain Capitol?
Up early I see, what crop are you picking today? Grapes or lettuce? Better send some arugula to Obozo before he ships out back to Hawaii, or Kenya.
Freedom's just another word for kicking the Muslim Marxist and his drones out of power today.

vtwin| 11.6.12 @ 10:21AM

"Up early I see, what crop are you picking today? Grapes or lettuce?"

Too funny.

Harry the Horrible| 11.6.12 @ 9:16AM

I wouldn't say that it is a choice between "socialism or freedom."
It is more like a choice between "the accelerator or the brakes."
We'll still be headed in the wrong direction, the only question is the speed at which we will be doing so. Turning around will take some truly radical (and unpleasant) changes.

Ralph Novy| 11.7.12 @ 4:54AM

If Romney/Ryan = "freedom," "socialism" never looked so good.

TLP| 11.6.12 @ 6:59AM

First of all, Florida and Virginia have Republican Gevernors. Ditto Ohio, who also has a Republican Legislature. The people in these States have SEEN what Responsible Leadership can do for them. Kasich in Ohio. McDonnell in Virginia and Scott in Florida. The rest of the Country can see the strives that Butterball Christy has made in New Jersey when he isn't Fellating Bojangles on Live Television.

Why then, would people NOT IN CALIFORNIA put Black Jerry Brown back in the White House?

What if Black Jesus held a Rally at a Basketball Arena in Ohio, with Bruce Springsteen and Gorilla Boy - JayZ - putting on a Free Concert, and NOBODY CAME? Cause, that's pretty much what happened yesterday.

Rasmussen has the Electorate at R+6. The toady Left Stream Media has been Sampling these Polls at D+9/+10/+11. Sky's the limit.

Who ya gonna listen to?

Me?

Or the Media Outlets, like CBS, who, just yesterday, released PERTINENT INFORMATION concerning what President Magic Negro said about The Benghazi Attacks, in an Interview with one of their Queerboy Suckups - Steve Kroft - who should be taken out back and stood up on a Drumhead.

Today is THE DAY that we rid ourselves of The Beast and the Bride of The Beast.

Today is when we let The Powers Of Darkness know, that Freedom and Liberty will not Go Quietly in to the Night. The Left will try and Stop Us. But, as General Patton said so Famously in his 1st Contact with Rommel's Tanks: "Rommel, you Magnificent Bastard. I READ YOUR BOOK!"

TLP| 11.6.12 @ 7:20AM

We have had 4 straight years watching as the Political Party whose Members have spent their lives Protesting this Country, in the Heart of our Biggest Enemy - Bill Clinton in Moscow/Aiding and Abetting our Enemies - Cutting Off Military Aid to South Vietnam/Sending Dear Commandante Letters to the Communist Leader in Nicaragua/Standing in the way of our efforts to rid our Hemisphere of Communist Dictatorships/Expressing their Endless Love and Admiration for Castro, Mugabe, Stalin, Hiss, and The Rosenbergs, as they have worked their Legislation around the process.

We have seen the Party of Ted Kennedy/who sent a Message to Soviet Premier - Yuri Andropov - offering to HELP THE COMMUNIST defeat PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES - Ronald Reagan - in their forthcoming Meeting/finagle the Rules, using Reconciliation, to get around a 60 Vote Rule.

And, we have stood here, as the Political Party that supplied TWO HUMAN SHIELDS to Saddam Hussein, at the beginning of the War in Iraq, has done everything in their Power to Thwart and Handcuff our Military Personnel, every step of the way.

This Ends Now.

ALL OF THESE THINGS - End Now.

What no mention of the Outsourcer-in-Chief who brokered the sale of all those American jobs to the communist in China.

TLP| 11.6.12 @ 8:26AM

As usual, vtwin leaves out all of the Businessess that his "Nigga" (His word, not mine) has sent packing, Overseas. GM is building New Plants IN CHINA, with our Tax Dollars that vtwin's "Nigga" (His word, not mine) gave to his Union Buddies in the UAW. I guess all thoseShovel Ready Jobs President Magic Negro promised us, were in CHINA.

Jeep will now be built IN CHINA.

His "Nigga's" (His word, not mine) own Czar for bringing Jobs Back To America - Jeffery Immelt - has been Dismantling his Plants HERE, and Shipping them over THERE - IN CHINA - as fast as is humanly possible. And, on top of all that? GE paid exactly $0 in Taxes last year, on Profits of $5,000,000,000.

He won't tell you how many Millions of Jobs NO LONGER EXIST here, since his "Nigga" (His word, not mine) came in to office. All gone to Friendlier Climes, where they APPRECIATE those who provide jobs, and not just Handouts.

Isn't that right, Doucheb@g.

vtwin| 11.6.12 @ 8:50AM

Question: “And is Jeep creating more jobs in Ohio or are they sending them to China?”

“No. Chrysler has, has — Chrysler is the one automaker that has increased employment.” -- John Kasich Republican, Ohio Governor

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-50.....publicans/

Ryan| 11.6.12 @ 10:46AM

After screwing over the bondholders, and going bankrupt anyway.

TLP| 11.6.12 @ 12:48PM

And sending Jeep over to China.

You notice he didn't say Word One about GE, GM, HIS "Nigga" (His word, not mine) and OUR Money.

Scumbag.

Him AND his "NIGGA". (His word, not mine)

Ralph Novy| 11.7.12 @ 4:26AM

Yes, TLP, the country is swirling the drain, about to go down the tubes. You should definitely decamp to Idaho and find yourself a cave/bunker to hunker down in. Oh ... and make sure it does NOT have an internet connection! That's how they'll track you down.

Bon chance.

But without the Bush recession the Bush wars and the Bush tax cuts what would we have? You guessed it the Clinton surpluses.

DTOM| 11.6.12 @ 9:09AM

Clinton surpluses?

Oh, you refer to the balanced budgets passed by Republicans in Congress with Clinton threatening to veto them...

At least Clinton managed to have budgets, our current (for a short time) little, itty-bitty President has not managed to pass a single budget! This is a violation of law and good sense!

Can't he just leave now?

Vtwin what are you doing inside blogging? Shouldn't you be out getting felons, illegal immigrants, and dead people to the polls and bars?

Is our little President going to really carry Illinois? Why did Jesse Jackson Sr have to campaign for him on the South Side of Chicago this week?

DRA2012| 11.6.12 @ 9:14AM

VTWIN, will you PLEASE stop w/that tired cr*p about Clinton surpluses? The deficit grew nearly EVERY year of his presidency, and any post-Clinton projections of national revenues were works of fiction that didn't take into the effect of his administration's 2005 fiscal policy changes (which lead DIRECTLY to the real-estate bubble, and the 2008 crash of the international financial markets).

Reagan tripled the nation debt and the Bush policies (tax cuts, wars, and recession) tripled it again.

Ball Buster| 11.6.12 @ 8:38AM

Hope springs eternal! But I am sorry to report that Romney is toast. I posted this yesterday.

You guys are, I am afraid, totally wrong. Obama's going to win with 300+ EVs and the Dems will get a small pick up in the Senate. It's just not Nate Silver who's projecting an Obama win based on poll aggregration Many others are too.

There are virtually no sites aggregating all the poll data and projecting a Romney victory. The same goes for all the on-line betting markets. None of them have Romney winning.

For Romney to win, the polls would have to fail systemically. This is not likely to happen. I will back in 48 hours to see who's right. Fair enough?

I"ll be back tomorrow. We can then see who was right and to begin the process of understanding the shortcomings of the losers approach to predicting this election. It won't be easy. As Jung once said, 'There is no coming to consciousness without pain."

DTOM| 11.6.12 @ 9:17AM

You won't be back tomorrow. You won't be back on 48 hours. You be out looking for a real job - which fortunately for all of us will actually appear once we are done with the littlest socialist, Muslim.

Good riddance.

Don't Tread On Me...

PS: Polling data? What ever did happen to President John (I served in Viet Nam) Kerry, anyway?

KennesawJack| 11.6.12 @ 10:47AM

Hah! Thanks, DTOM.

Mitt got beaten badly. The stat jockeys were right. Don't shoot the messenger.

Ralph Novy| 11.7.12 @ 4:31AM

Yup. You pretty much nailed it, Ball Buster. I give you credit for paying attention to Nate Silver, et al., and not dismissing them out of hand to score some partisan cheerleading points.

Von Mises Jr| 11.6.12 @ 8:43AM

Tip O'Neill said all politics is local. So our boy wonder RSM gives us gloom and doom for the three states most needed by Romney. But these outcomes do not correlate to the outcomes of PA, CO, IA, WI or even MI and MN.
PA and Co for instance will be hurt immensely if Obama is re-elected and continues his war on oil, natural gas and coal. The Mid-west is Evangelical and will be influenced by Religious Freedom more than perhaps FL or VA.
This is very linear thinking and damn defeatist. Romney landslide.

Ralph Novy| 11.7.12 @ 4:32AM

Who Knows?| 11.6.12 @ 9:48AM

Very depressing link at powerlineblog.com, albeit totally predictable---in Pennsylvania, they’re throwing out Republican poll watchers in some precincts, and more of those threatening New Black Panther guys are standing watch.

If the election is not close, they—the Democrats---can’t cheat their way to victory---Hugh Hewitt.

Well—the election IS close!

The memory of my first engaged presidential election, 1960, when I was 18, recently arose again. It wasn’t until 25 or 30 years later that PBS—of all places!---detailed how Daley stuffed the ballot boxes in Chicago to give Illinois to JFK & LBJ, and the latter did the same in Texas.

And, without these shenanigans, Nixon would have won.

Talk about THE GREATEST ROBBERY OF ALL TIME!

Just ponder how different things would have been, with Nixon in the WH instead of the pretty boy naïf Kennedy!

No missile crisis in Cuba---Khrushchev wouldn’t have taken Nixon for a wimp, as he did JFK.

No Watergate.

Who knows what would have happened in Vietnam---it surely couldn’t have been worse than what DID happen, IMHO.

Who Knows?| 11.6.12 @ 9:49AM

Probably 8 years of a moderate Republican presidency with Nixon, and likely good economic news---no Great Society, no assassination of JFK.

In 1968, since the good times would still be going on, another GOP president to maintain the status quo---on into the future.

No Jimmuh Carter, because no Gerald Ford, the accidental president.

Who knows---maybe Ronald Reagan would have been one of the presidents chosen earlier than 1980.

In short---what an election theft!

Talk about regime change!

And, I still haven’t mentioned all the damage done by the SCOTUS, whose membership would have been much more conservative, if Daley & LBJ hadn’t used fraud to win the election for the Theft Party---aka the Democratic Party.

So, here we are, some of us hopeful, that 52 years after the GREAT ELECTION ROBBERY, during which time the leaders of the Theft Party have consolidated their power, maybe another “savior” of the nature of a Ronald Reagan, will beat the house odds.

Count me a realistic cynic.

Where is the antitrust law that can be used against the effectively monopolistic political powers that be---the whole enterprise, well known as the MSM, academia, the entertainment industry, the Democratic Party, public schools, as well as the iron triangle of the government bureaucrats, those who receive government largesse, and the legislators who force OTHERS to pay for it?

Who Knows?| 11.6.12 @ 9:50AM

Face facts---Obama is simply the latest iteration of JFK & LBJ, and even if Romney beats him, which I’m hoping he does, as the champion of people like me, who are truly outraged at the last 52 years, he’ll need myriad shovels to dig his way out of the shit that IS our Washington DC cesspool.

Al Adab| 11.6.12 @ 11:22AM

WK:
Remember, Kennedy cut taxes with his comment, "A rising tide lifts all ships." The economy started to grow, business expanded and tax revenue increased. That was good until Reagan reprised the concept then, to the Dems, it became "trickle down". Todays DEM party is not the patriotic party of the past.

Definately Virginia, Florida, and OHIO. If Romney takes Ohio then Obama is dead in the water. Let's pray he does.

Al Adab| 11.6.12 @ 11:24AM

Romney needs one more beyond those. With Ohio he will have 266 so NH, IA or WI or CO makes the difference. A tall order. The issue is in Gods hands, we can only do our duty.

Butch| 11.6.12 @ 2:48PM

Well, I just did my duty, Al, and prayed right after it. I'll be hitting that single malt tonight one way or the other. Here we go.

Al Adab| 11.6.12 @ 3:14PM

My morning coffee group is bringing a bottle of 18 year old McCallam in the morning. Toast the victory or drown our sorrows even if it is early AM. I shall think of you.

Ralph Novy| 11.7.12 @ 4:36AM

Well, then, I think your god has spoken.

Will you heed?

John Navratil| 11.6.12 @ 3:07PM

I guess well know who Soros was paying, tomorrow.

TLP| 11.6.12 @ 4:48PM

Vagina.

Bob Grant| 11.6.12 @ 5:08PM

He didn't say what form of payment he used.

Geez, read before commenting!

The Obamanation has by now fully revealed itself to be naught else but a weird coalition of button-down social engineers and crazed populist street-punks.

And so, I herewith prophesy: This day shall be a watershed in the history of the Republic: either we slough off the Obamanation to reassert the American experiment in limited constitutional governance and religious liberty and free-market prosperity and responsible military supremacy, or we slouch finally into the degenerate and chilly night of smug Euro-narcissism and fodder for Islamist thugs.

Yea, the die is cast. And, numbed of late by the Professor's endless cascade of cheap middle-school debating-team rhetoric, I cannot help waxing grandiloquent.

And now back to "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" (1939), in which Jimmy Stewart plays Paul Ryan 31 years before the latter was born. Hollywood wasn't quite as flaky in its Golden Years.

TLP| 11.6.12 @ 4:49PM

What did you expect from President Chicago Street Nigga? (vtwin's word, not mine)

Purp| 11.6.12 @ 10:14PM

That's Grandiloquent?

Will| 11.6.12 @ 11:49PM

He's won (Obama, that is)!!! The everybody else in the world (including Israel) is over the moon!

Ball Buster| 11.7.12 @ 3:22AM

I am back, as promised,

How is Mitt's margin of victory working out for you this morning?

Well, the statistical wizards were right and Robert was wrong . The wizards said Romney would lose and he did. They said he would lose badly and he did. So what was everyone here seeing that the wizards missed?

Ralph Novy| 11.7.12 @ 4:48AM

Hmm. Well, a lot of folks here seem to have been seeing an America -- a world -- of their own imagination's creation, uncluttered by the inconvenient, uncomfortable facts that the liberal elites throw around.

In short, they were seeing what they wanted to see, not what was there.
