FISHERVILLE, Virginia — Randy Goettge left Leesburg about 3:30
p.m. Thursday and the normal drive time should have gotten him to
the Romney-Ryan “Victory Rally” here by the announced start time of
6 p.m. Unfortunately for Goettge, about 10,000 other Virginians had
similar plans, producing what was surely the biggest traffic jam in
the history of Augusta County. Traffic was backed up for miles in
every direction — all the way from the Highway 285 exit to
Interstate 81 four miles west — and by the time Goettge found a
place to park and walk the final mile to the Augusta Expo Center,
it was 7:30 p.m. and the gates were already closed.
Goettge was by no means alone. Thousands more late-arriving
supporters — some of whom had driven from as far away as Richmond
and the northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C. — stood on a
hillside across from the outdoor arena where a fired-up sign-waving
crowd was packed to fire-code capacity. However, the sound system
was powerful enough to be heard at a quarter-mile distance and the
giant TV screen was visible from the hillside, providing Goettge
and the overflow crowd with an excellent view of the
proceedings.
The massive turnout was proof that Mitt Romney’s stunning
victory in Wednesday’s debate struck a spark of excitement,
reviving a campaign that had sustained a month-long battering of
negative media coverage. “The crowd was feeding off the energy from
last night,” said Amy Whitaker, who drove from Amherst County to
attend the rally. “A lot of us didn’t get to sleep until 2 in the
morning, we were so hyped up.… We were just surprised [Romney] did
so well, and how bad Obama did.”
Romney and his running mate were eager to capitalize on that
energy. “Last night, President Obama made it very clear he’s going
to raise taxes,” Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan told the crowd, which
booed the idea. “Today, Vice President Joe Biden made it even more
clear. In Iowa, he said, he asked himself a question and he asked
if he and President Obama want a trillion-dollar tax hike. And his
response to himself was ‘Yes, we do.’ That’s a direct quote,
friends. Well, Virginia, no, we don’t. … What we don’t need is a
tax increase on our successful job creators that will cost us
700,000 jobs.”
Biden’s remark in Iowa
— and Ryan’s rebuttal in Virginia — were a good hint of why the
damage Democrats suffered Wednesday isn’t likely to be repaired any
time soon. Next week, the notoriously gaffe-prone vice president
will debate Ryan, arguably the top policy wonk in Congress, and
after seeing the way Romney mopped the floor with Obama, few expect
that Biden will do much better against Ryan. Liberals angrily
charged that Romney won Wednesday’s debate by lying, as if
Democrats were famous for honesty, and as if their post-debate
complaints were anything other than sour grapes.
In a Thursday interview with Sean Hannity, Romney said that the
debate was “a chance for each of us to describe our vision for the
country. And the President talked about his vision, which was
basically a continuation of the policies of the last four years. He
wants another stimulus. He wants to have government investing for
us. He wants to hire more government workers. He wants to raise
taxes, as Vice President Biden blurted out today, they want to
raise taxes by a trillion dollars. It’s more like $2 trillion by
our calculation. He has laid out the same policies he has been
following for the last four years. And I don’t think that sells
very well when people hear that.”
No new polls have yet measured the size of Romney’s post-debate
“bounce,” but if the enormous crowd that turned out Thursday here
is any indication, it will be sizeable. Polls have shown a
tight race in Virginia, and the Republicans will continue
campaigning Friday
morning in Abingdon, in the southwest corner of the state.
Romney closed his speech at the Fisherville rally with a confident
proclamation of victory in the election now only 33 days away:
“When Paul Ryan and I get to Washington, we will begin a real
recovery that will put Americans back to work.”

I hope it lasts, and I hope the VP debate is a keeper for Amerca's Funniest Home Videos fans. I am not optimistic at present, but hopeful that people can focus for longer than a week.

Mitt Romney has helped his chances for becoming President with his performance in the first debate.
However, last night the campaign hurdles were again put in place by none other than Sean Hannity. In an interview, Hannity resurrected the topic of the “47%”.
And Hannity is presumed to be a conservative? I believe he just likes to hear himself talk and sometimes he doesn’t know when to keep his mouth shut.
And his sidekick Bill O’Reilly is no different. He asked all of his guests the same question. “Why didn’t Obama bring up the 47% during the debate?”
This morning the subject is back in the news cycle.
Joellen| 10.5.12 @ 7:46AM
Trust me on this, Bill Oreilly is NOT Sean's sidekick. I stopped listening to Billy Oreilly when he refused to give RUSH LIMBAUGH kudo's for taking Harry Reid's unconstitutuional attempt to try and censor Rush and Rush being who Rush is was able to make a $8 MILLION DOLLAR PROFIT and have it donated to the US Marines (I forget the actual name). Envious Bill never reported that - ever. As for Sean bring up 47% - actually, the lib media lamanted that BO never brought it up all day long - so I'll give Sean slack in that he was trying to give Gv Romney the chance (once again) to explain it rationally. BTW - Virginia needs to elect George Allen to Senate - so I do hope this is a good sign for Allen and he can profit off this momentum.

Bill O'Reilly is a pompous a$$. He is so arrogant and condescending; it is clear proof that he is a liberal.
Thank goodness Cavuto is on FBN at the same time in our area so I have someone actually brilliant and funny to watch.
KennesawJack| 10.5.12 @ 11:24AM
I sat and watched O'Reilly interrupt Brit Hume and Lora Ingraham repeatedly last week and finally gave up watching him. You're correct Von, the guy is just to full of himself. Hannity is just as bad, in my opinion. FOX ain't what it used to be. The only folks I watch are Cavuto, Brett Bair and, of course, Megan. Sunday morning with Chris Wallace is clearly the class of the Sunday shows.
Von Mises Jr| 10.5.12 @ 11:49AM
I watch Cavuto, Dobbs and "The Five," and not much else on Fox. I do jump FBN and CNBC to get the stock market information.
CrackerHound| 10.5.12 @ 10:05AM
O'reilly arrogantly tried to take on Rush in the morning timeslot and lost. Of course given Bill's notorious temperment, he hates Rush for it, even calling Rush a "hate merchant". That's just proof that Bill is NOT on our team...he's on Bill O's team ONLY...and his books suck, all 40,000 of them.
I predict Mitt will carry Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Virginia. Bold prediction but I'm convinced.

I watched Hannity when he asked Romney about the "47%." It was a good question because though Obama failed to bring it up in the debate, you can be assured it will come up again and again, and Hannity was giving Romney a friendly venue in which to answer it.
Unlike the MSM which refuses to ask its heroes like Obama tough questions our side does require that our champions be on top of their game. Perhpas if the MSM had been tougher on Obama he's not have been such a dud in the debate. He had no practice.
Martin kzovich| 10.5.12 @ 7:14AM
Forget the polls. If I were to advise Romney I would say learn mental judo. Watch Obama's performance since the first debate on the stump. Watch the Communist new campaign line ( Romney lies ). Be prepared with your angelic smile to respond to Obama's viscious attacks. Obama is not good at controlling his emotions especially when he dislikes some one. balance ut when to let Obama go off his rails and when to cut in. Be prepared for extremely outrageous behavior like interrupting you or lies that are beyond our solar system.
PolishKnight| 10.5.12 @ 9:38AM
Now is actually less of a time for an angelic smile and more for comedic sarcasm. When Obama goes on the offensive like an attack dog to try to recover his manhood, _laugh_ (well, not directly. That would be disrespectful. But come back with a quip). That's what Reagan did to the angry leftist media and it frustrated them for 8 years and they never figured it out.

This campaign will become more clear in the coming weeks. The MEDIA has been in overdrive producing polls to ratchet up the RCP average. They started with 8% oversampling of Democrats to show a 1-2 Obama lead. They now must oversample 13% to achieve the same results. Simple math (something MEDIA and this Whitehouse are unable or unwilling to do) shows Romney leading by 8 points. The large crowds attending Romeny Ryan events is supporting evidence. Have the rest of you considered WHY Obama's chosen venues are college campuses? Colleges provide Obama a guaranteed audience. The campaign makes arrangements with the faculty and the faculty hands out assignments - the student must attend the Obama event to get the information needed for completing the assignment. It's a built in number booster and a convenient was to surround Obama with a loyal liberal audience. The debate also showed how Obama behaves when the audience is not hand picked. It drives him into a shell. Affirmative action policies does no favors for minorities. Qualifications are placed on the floor or eliminated - the unprepared candidate is set at the front of the line. Unearned anything is neither appreciated nor prepares the candidate for the real world. The debate was proof of what AA policies and coddling do. This will get no better for Obama. Yesterday he attacked Romney for lack of details on how he planned to reduce the deficit 5 trillion. Ans = removing Obama from office.

I don't if the author lives in VA, but if he does, he's not getting around the state much or he's playing things close to the vest. I get around the state quite a bit on a daily basis. Romney yard signs and bumper stickers predominate in VA this year. In 2008 Obama signs and stickers were ubiquitos and McCain logos were very prevalent too. There are no where near as many Obama logos as McCain had in '08. Circumstantial I know, but....
Also, while Romney's performance was energizing, I don't think that is what motivated so many Virginians to attend the Augusta Co. rally. I feel very confident that Virginians have been fed up with Obama since November 2009 when Bob McDonnell (a Reagan conservative) was elected governor, and in the Northern Virginia suburbs that are allegedly Obama country where all the federal workers and contractors reside, McDonnell won by 59% to 41%. Romney's great performance was just celebratory icing, IMHO. I do not believe the polls showing a tight race between Romney and Obama in VA this year. I think Romney is going to win here by as much as Obama beat McCain in '08. Just MHO, but I've been living here for over 40 years now so I've seen my share of POTUS signage and polls.

Actually, they are part of the 47% and won't be voting for RomBot. They are votes in the bank - get it?
JimP| 10.5.12 @ 9:59PM
So you think that people who still have jobs, but don't pay any federal income tax will be voting for the President who has given them: $4/gal gas; $3.50+/gal for milk; $2.00 per loaf of the cheap bread; $5,000/year less in income on average; increased their healthcare costs by $2,500/year on average; put them out of work with his bad policies; and on and on and on.
I think the majority of them will be voting for the other guy because Obama has done nothing for them except make them more dependent on the government and made their lives harder, more stressful, and taken away much of their hope for a better future. If the majority of these folks were lazy and just wanted to live on handouts they would already have been on welfare before Obama got into office. I think the majority of them realize Obama has betrayed them and they will give the 'greedy rich guy who knows how to make money' a try. One thing thing everyone has learned is that Obama doesn't know $hit about how to get an economy going.
Purp| 10.5.12 @ 10:55PM

Private sector jobs (+104K) and government jobs (+10K) equals 114K Caliban. Extremely weak and should have pushed U3 up, not down.
The alleged 873K is supposedly part-time jobs added and is a mythical trick to get the real 11% U3 rate to look like it is under 8%. They magically found in a survey that previously uncounted people had gotten jobs that they did not count.
So we have gone from not counting 2.5M people who are out of work but not counted for various reasons, to finding almost 900K jobs we didn’t know about. You are either a propagandist, the dumbest MF I ever heard, or both.
The alleged people returning to work are supposed to be part-time perhaps like your troll job or hamburger flipper.
Von Mises Jr| 10.5.12 @ 10:52AM

Four-hundred thousand disappear from the work force and four-hundred phantom new jobs appear from a survey. It is like magic. Shazam.

It is an interesting dissertation, but I think you would be better served by reading:
Cicero: De Res Publica
Ibn Khaldun: Muquaddimah
Adam Smith: Wealth of Nations
Locke: Treatises on Government
T. Jefferson: First Innaugural
You see, it is not the purpose of government to provide our daily bread, but rather to defend our rights and allow us to gain our own. At least I thank you for helping make clear the philosophical divide with which we struggle.
Purp| 10.6.12 @ 12:49AM
And who said otherwise? The Founders were liberals with high ideals and finally broke the hold that Kings had on the people.
You miss the point that the government, in partnership with business, is what made us great.
Our worst times came when individuals are completely allowed to do as they pleased "Laissez-faire", the 20's and the 2000's.
That didn't mean that as the world change, our democracy wouldn't change - and that's were you go wrong.
You try to paint everyone not you as unpatriotic, lazy leeches - and that's why you lose.
America is on to the tactics, they've seen behind the closed doors and they don't like Conservadums.
Even Gay Marriage is accepted by > 50% of the people as a civil right that should be granted.

Now it is becoming clear. The real BLS Jobs Report had 114K added. You need more than that to stay even with some 3 million in immigration.
They used the Household Survey that is a limited sample that is then used to project the figure they want. Apparently they applied the correction they created in this household phone poll to then adjust the real BLS numbers that were from employers. Neat trick, but way too obvious.

'.....But a number of sobering facts underlie the supposedly rosy jobs report. The economy has added just 87,400 jobs a month since April, down from an average of 226,000 jobs a month in the January-March quarter. Manufacturing payrolls fell 16,000 in September, a second straight monthly decline, while taxpayer-supported government jobs rose 10,000.
While a survey of households showed 873,000 job gains last month, about 582,000 of those jobs were part-time positions, many of them taken by people who cannot find full-time work.
The so-called underemployment rate, which includes part-time workers who would prefer full-time work, and people who want work but have given up looking, held at a troubling 14.7 percent last month. Hiring by small businesses weakened in September for a third straight month. The National Federation of Independent Business said the net change in employment per firm slipped 0.23 last month. Median family income has fallen about 8 percent since 2009.
Some observers even question whether the encouraging jobs numbers were cooked up by the Obama administration.“Unbelievable job numbers . . . these Chicago guys will do anything,” former GE boss Jack Welch tweeted. “Can’t debate so change numbers.” .....'

The unemployment figures that came out today are entirely election-driven. In my city there has been a huge increase in the number of roads being resurfaced in the last 2 months, compared to summer months of previous years, as the remainder of the stimulus money is being used to prop up Obam. Relatives of mine in a couple other cities have said the same thing. Since this is stimulus money being spent, once the elction is over and the money dries up, there will be a big increase in unemployment again.
Purp| 10.5.12 @ 10:02AM
Dude - that's because of the super hot summer - ever try laying asphalt in 100+ degree weather. Construction is going mad racing between the hot and very cold weather to catch up.

The President talked about his vision, which was basically a continuation of the policies of the last four years. He wants another stimulus. He wants to have government investing for us. He wants to hire more government workers. He wants to raise taxes, as Vice President Biden blurted out today, they want to raise taxes by a trillion dollars. It's more like $2 trillion by our calculation.....That's right in the brain of this leftist cretin Obama the solution to every problem is government, more government, much more government, and much much more government. In other words standard leftist non-solutions for the very real problems of the American people. It's all about turning the majority of the American people into dependent welfare recipients -and voters for Democrat politicians- as Obama's Marxist policies continue to strangle the economy and fewer and fewer people are able to find work.

You know Purp, these conservative clowns can't connect dots, so lets help them. They scream about the high the unemployment while simultaneously celebrating the lay off of state and municipal workers which keeps the unemployment number high. They totally can't see that Mittens is advocating a rehash of Reagan's "weaponized Keynsianism" as a way for the federal government to stimulate the economy. But, then again, the only government agency that creates jobs and never wastes a cent of taxpayer money is the Pentagon, right?
Oldefarte| 10.7.12 @ 12:45PM
You know Purp, these radical extremist preachers of BS can't connect the dots, so let me help them. Governmental workers are totally labor unionized and therefore receive [due to lack of adequate professional managerment capable of diluting same] triple the salary/benefits that would be demanded by supply/demand and therefore cost the taxpayers who fund same, so therefore the layoffs/termination of these overpaid government workers would represent a reduction of the Federal defecit/debt and therefore a good thing. Furthermore, lowering Federal expenses by same would result in a freeing up on bank loan moneys that could then be much better expended within the private sector to benefit plant expansions, employee hirings and therefore consumer purchases fromthe increased employments. Instead of having nail-filing uncessary and useless government employments that are not needed and paid for by taxpayers, it would be more economically beneficial to have private employments increase and governmental employments decrease, since the former are more beneficial to our economy tha n are the latter. Oh and as to the preferability of governmental outlays, the original governmental documents demanded spendings on natio nal defense, but not on indigent welfare. Therefore indigents need to become more RESPONSIBLE in their personal lives, begin taking care of their own needs and not asking the income-earning taxpayers to fund not only their own needs but those of theirs [indigents']!!!!!!!

It’s great to get reports of the crowds Romney-Ryan are getting. But don’t be fooled. It does NOT follow that they are winning. Maybe they are, but remember non sequitur.
“Consciousness as Reality is not merely appearing in the form of phenomena, as the knower of phenomena, or as a phenomenon exclusive of or unlike other phenomena. It is simply Itself, always and already---and all phenomenal conditions are appearances or merely apparent, unnecessary, and non-binding modifications of Itself.”

Who Knows?| 10.5.12 @ 11:26AM
“Realization is not dependent on either extroversion or introversion of attention. It transcends the phenomenal mechanism of attention itself. It is the tacit, motiveless, free, and prior Realization of the Obvious, or That which is always already the case. It is the free Realization of the Condition that IS Consciousness. That Consciousness is not an object to us, nor is it merely within us. It has no NECESSARY relationship to phenomena. It is simply the ultimate or Real Context of the phenomenal self and world (in any of the gross or subtle planes of cosmic Nature).”

Obummer will only be the talking mouth, a puppet; the moderator and spectators will be the greatest threat to a fair debate.

This election is sizing up to be a very simple choice. If you want a JOB, you vote for Romney. If you want a Government Check courtesy of the Taxpayers, you vote for Obama. It truly is that simple.

That's just stupid. 8 million jobs lost under Bush, over 5 million new jobs gained under Obama - and Romney's policies are "Bush's policies on steroids" - Andrea Saul, Romney campaign spokeswoman.
Now, which you want - Obama new jobs or lose more jobs to the Romney wealthy and connected?

The Wall Street Journal's U-6 rate analysis is quite telling, providing a much more realistic unemployment picture than the U-3 rate alone. The U-6 unemployment rate considers the U-3 rate as well as marginally attached workers:
"those who are neither working nor looking for work, but say they want a job and have looked for work recently; and people who are employed part-time for economic reasons, meaning they want full-time work but took a part-time schedule instead because that's all they could find.
In September, the number of part-time workers who would like full-time jobs surged by 582,000. That represents about two-thirds of the increase in employment last month and is larger than the drop in the number of unemployed. That's why the U-6 stayed at 14.7% in September."
But you're smarter than those folks at the WSJ, aren't you, little shit ?
That's what they used to call you back on the playground, wasn't it ? "Here comes that little shit again."
Never got over it, did you... but now you have a KEYBOARD, and you can be a big shit !
You wish.

Blah, blah, blah ... when you explain, you're LOSING, you stupid ass.
Trying to find a cloud in the 7.8% silver lining - you're still LOSING and will LOSE - LOSER.

By the fact the President was Harvard Law Review President, has bestseller books and is now President - you don't get there by being a slouch, lazy, stupid or cheating.
Get over the black thing will ya?
The President could solve world hunger, and you would still not like him. But he's winning and you'll just have to calm down and get used to another 4 years of magnificent leadership.

I must admit that I was extremely worried about our chances with Mitt Romney...until the debate that will surely go down in history as the most lopsided win, or loss depending on your viewpoint.
To hear Mitt Romney under the pressure of a debate speak so clearly, stongly and positivley about his plans for America, and the damage done by obummer, my enthusiasum has surged upwards by an incredible amount.
My only fear now is how badly the liberal media will rig the next two debates for obummer; for the liberal media is a far greater danger to America than ten obummers without a teleprompter.
Purp| 10.7.12 @ 1:04PM
The only problem is that although quite pushy (which isn't leadership, I might add), he told so many bold-faced lies, leadership skills just went out the window.
You don't just say whatever it takes to win ... you're on tape, Youtube and elsewhere, saying just the opposite of the positions you held for 2 years.
Major flip-flopping and outright lying turns off independents.
I get that the right wing world is thrilled, he's made you feel better about voting for Romney - but the President won independents by 8% more, that night, and that's what counts in November.
