“You have sat too long here for any good you have been
doing. Depart, I say, let us have done with you. In the name of
God, go!”
— Member of Parliament Leo Amery
quoting Cromwell on the Long Parliament to British Prime Minister
Neville Chamberlain — May 7, 1940. Three days later the
Chamberlain government fell, Winston Churchill replaced Chamberlain
— and Hitler invaded France.
It was a good week for Islamic fascists.
Hillary Clinton has become Barack Obama’s Donald Rumsfeld.
The murders of Benghazi have become Clinton’s Abu Ghraib.
And by the way, did you know the Three Stooges caused World War
II?
In the event, this Secretary of State has irrefutably proven
herself to be naïve, weak, and grossly incompetent. And no, it
doesn’t matter that the Secretary has said she wishes to leave the
Obama administration if the President is re-elected.
Hillary Clinton has to go. Now.
Like Rumsfeld, Clinton is the Cabinet officer whose tenure began
as a political rock star — and ended amid a chorus of controversy.
In Rumsfeld’s case, by November of 2006 the besieged Secretary of
Defense did in fact get the request for his resignation from
President George W. Bush. And he left.
After repeated calls for that resignation from — Senator
Hillary Clinton. Not to mention Senator Joe Biden.
Calls like
this one, demanded directly of Rumsfeld by then-Senator Clinton
at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing in August of 2006:
“Under your leadership there have been numerous errors in
judgment that have led us to where we are.… We hear a lot of happy
talk and rosy scenarios, but because of the administration’s
strategic blunders — and frankly the record of incompetence in
executing — you are presiding over a failed policy.”
Errors in judgment, she said. Happy talk, she said. Strategic
blunders, she said. Incompetence in executing policy, she said.
Presiding over a failed policy, she said.
What happened in Benghazi meets every one of the Clinton
standards for Rumsfeld’s resignation. What has been happening with
assaults on American embassies around the world meets every one of
the Clinton standards for Rumsfeld’s resignation. Now, those same
standards should demand her own leave-taking. Not in January.
Now.
Biden didn’t even wait until 2006. In 2004, as the revelations
of abuse of Iraqi detainees at the American-run Abu Ghraib prison
exploded in the media, Biden went on CBS’s Face the Nation
to demand Rumsfeld’s resignation, saying that
Rumsfeld needed to resign because Abu Ghraib, an operation that was
the responsibility of the Pentagon, “….has jeopardized our troops.
It’s jeopardized our mission.” Biden added:
“Imagine what Ronald Reagan would be saying today.”

Fine article, Jeff, but who among us believes that Ms. Clinton will resign because of her failed policies? It is out of character for anyone on the left to assume responsibility for failure. They only leave when they are being thrown out the door. Let's hope the American public does that to the Obama Administration this November. Our nation can't take another 4 years of this.
Von Mises Jr| 9.18.12 @ 8:45AM
Shillary, Barry, and the socialist Democrats in Congress cannot admit failure since doing so would admit socialism is a failure.
Marx believed in "material productive forces" where economies just morphed all by themselves ultimately leading to socialism where no dictator or Party was needed since everybody has a Rodney King epiphany and commits to "everybody just getting along."
The National Socialist (Nazi) Party committed atrocities. Mao killed 70M. The USSR finally collapsed under its own weight.
But Barry and Shillary "are the ones we have been waiting for." What horse shit? But they actually believe this horse shit.
Of course, when they get shellacked November 6th, the socialist will then throw Barry and Shillary under the bus. Otherwise is to admit socialism is a pipe dream of epic proportions.

One has to remember that the relationship between Hitlery and D'oh-bama is, at best, dysfunctional and at worst, spiteful.
They detest one another.
It also appears to me that Hitlery is suffering from what appears to be the later stages of alcoholism. I have no proof of this and am merely speculating. Inasmuch as she's a product of the 60's, and even as incompetent as she is, the stresses of her job no doubt take a toll and she was taught to use chemicals to deal with stress. Those big luxo airliners that state officials fly on are loaded with booze (Hat tip to Nancy Pelosi) at the taxpayers' expense. The good stuff too; Not the bottom-shelf swill at the corner bar.
But the president and secretary fundamentally do not work together as such a professional arrangement should. Like all things in this regime, it's a disaster. Flawed foundation. Flawed doctrine. Flawed execution.

I think, in Jeff's defense, though he didn't specify, is that the way the left unfairly crucified Rumsfeld, and that Bush acquiesced to leftists' demands for his resignation amidst trumped up suppositions, the left really now DOES have a reason, irrefutable proof of incompetence and Jeff is merely drawing attention to the sublime by being a bit absurd.
I cannot pretend to speak for him, but my impression in his article was that he outlined something that really happened and applied the same criteria to Hitlery's position, with the supposition that the left might entertain the same action from her and the president, as established by precedent.
Of course, one would sooner rope the wind.

To base a foreign policy on the hope that others will be attracted to you is at best dangerously naïve. Nations have interests, which are often competitive, and frequently in conflict with that of other nations. Islamism is a way political thinking that allows no competition and promotes constant conflict until its final victory. To think that it can be defeated in other nations or our own by the power of example rather than by the force of arms, economy and principle is misguided, to say the least.

At powerlineblog.com, Steve Hayward has posted, a couple of times, what Churchill wrote about Islam. Too bad all Western “heretics” haven’t read it, and taken it into account.
Islam has ALWAYS been flucked!
Remember, until black gold was found to practically bubble up out of the sands in the Middle East, the Arabs were easily understood to be the backward brainwashed fools portrayed in movies like “Lawrence of Arabia”. Talk about undeserved wealth!
From the first barrel of oil, through the nationalization of the oil fields and loss of control to the Saudi sheiks, right up to now, the essence of Islam has played out. It is just slavery, in a sandy form, whose plantation masters use Islam as the whip, and oil instead of cotton as the saleable commodity to keep THEM in power.
And, Americans, after soooo many years of in-your-face acts by Islamists, STILL doesn’t get it?
Pathetic.

Churchill, from "The River War"-
“How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property—either as a child, a wife, or a concubine—must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen: all know how to die. But the influence of the religion paralyzes the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proseltyzing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science—the science against which it had vainly struggled—the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome.”
Al Adab| 9.18.12 @ 12:40PM
Oh, but we must never learn from history and repeat those horrible, colonialistic errors of the benighted imperialists. That would be to admit that not everyone in the world likes one another and that in fact there exist irreconsilabne differences between men and nations.
John II| 9.18.12 @ 2:35PM
". . . were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science—the science against which it had vainly struggled—the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome.”
Slight demurral from what is otherwise a characteristically splendid passage from one of my (political) heroes.
1. The "vain struggle" (of Christianity against science) to which Winnie alludes seems rather more a broad stroke of political rhetoric than a considered reflection on history. I suppose that, by "Christianity," Winnie is referring, for example, to the Catholic Church in her contretemps with Galileo, an incident which is now perhaps hopelessly misunderstood because of the symbolic value attached to the event by the secular consciousness that has pretty much dominated Western culture for more than 200 years. Indeed, from a Christian perspective, the forced symbolism of such events as l'affaire Galileo is itself a symbol of the secular world's own rather desperate need for self-affirmation and ritualistic display. More to come, if anyone's reading . . .
John II| 9.18.12 @ 2:38PM
The historical reality, as many historians have come to acknowledge, is that the development of Western science would not have been possible without the peculiar Judaeo-Christian optic that in effect mandates an openness to God's creation and serious efforts to understand it. I mean, the University is a Christian invention. Islam since about the 12th century effectively shut off such openness, a development which a study of the Qur'an itself should lead one, I believe, to regard as having been likely and plausible.
2. Western science is the ONLY aspect of the West that modern Muslims show any interest in. And the interest is confined almost exclusively to the applications of science--not, for example, to the deeper regions of physics or the mathematical speculations of cosmology, where Western science willy-nilly encounters philosophy and theology. Well-to-do Muslim families send their sons to the West just to study and learn those applications, NOT to inquire into Western philosophy and literature and art and history, and certainly not to grapple with Judaeo-Christian theology.
John II| 9.18.12 @ 2:40PM
3. The notion that Christianity "is sheltered in the strong arms of science" is not a notion that Churchill himself would any longer entertain if he were still with us. The only serious Western shelter against the latest onslaught of Islam, after a 400-year lull, would be a deep and reflective Judaeo-Christian faith. The dissolution of that faith in the West has gradually fostered a degenerate culture which I don't believe is up to the task of defending itself. A smug, comfortably skeptical nihilism is no match for the fanatic nihilism of jihad.
And now back to "The Jeweller's Shop" (1990), in which the remnants of a serious Judaeo-Christian faith inspire hope amid a hollow secularist culture.
Paul McGrath| 9.18.12 @ 4:31PM
Thanks, John, for your terrific analysis. I too was a bit troubled by the Churchill comment inre Chritianity's vain struggle against science, but I know better and he knew better. In general, Christianity opened door to all that, and indeed was the sole protector of Western knowledge off and on and in many different places for centuries. A "broad stroke of political rhetoric" is exactly the way to describe it.
As to our loss of faith in ourselves, well, witness these pages, filled with hatred and contempt for all that our culture represents.

"Far more important than 4 people tragically killed in a terrorist attack in Libya."
Point of linguistic order, Purp. You've misused the term "tragically." A tragedy is an bad occurrence that grows out of inadvertent and often mysterious coincidences. When terrorists kill, it's not a tragedy; it's an atrocity.
But there's something going on here more interesting than your writerly incompetence. For the term "tragically" in such contexts has morphed of late into a cheaply vague rhetorical trick--a pro forma nod to the general badness of an event that the writer or speaker is really not at all interested in.
The folks at Foggy Bottom use such language all the time; that's why the State Department is called "Foggy Bottom." Except for rare circumstances in which diplomacy is truly an art, there's just no moral center in what I would call the routine enterprise of Hillary-like diplomacy. And the routine use of such language by the Professor's shills is one of many signs that there is no moral center in the Obamanation.
And now back to the great Three Stooges short "I'll Never Heil Again" (1941), sequel to "You Nazty Spy" (1940)--both of which were personal favorites of Moe Howard and both of which, far from being "tasteless" (my one objection to Jeff's terrific piece), are masterpieces of Stooge genius, eloquent of a deep and resonant moral center.

The 3 Stooges were Masters of their Craft; Hillary is the Mistress of the Daft. A Large difference.
Might I suggest that we incorporate the Following into the Strategy of the Romney Administration:
1)Cut Domestic Spending 10%.
2) Cut taxes 10%.
3) Our Foreign Policy towards our enemies: Oderint Dum Metuant.
4)Therefore, set up the 1000:1 equivalence rule. Gilad Shalit was worth 1000 Palestinian Terrorists in exchange, according to the palestinian Muslims. Therefore, for killing our 4 Ambassadorial staff, the Libyans should suffer at least 4000 deaths. Personally, since those were US Government representatives as opposed to, say, St. Pancake, it should be 10,000 deaths per, or 40,000. That just happens to be the number of dead killed at Nagasaki. Therefore, one tacnuke dropped on, say, Bengazi. (With a population of over a million, this will guarantee the 10,000 to one ratio).
5) No Nation Building.

The Obama admnistration has used these drone attacks five times as many times as used during the Bush administration.
Which by itself doesn't seem to be a problem, except that he's never bothered to spell out his rules of engagement to them--or to us. In that this is allegedly a Democratic Republic, don't we, as American citizens, have the right to know what he's doing and why? So that we can determine through our votes whether we agree with this strategy?
As to our enemies, would it not be prudent for Obama to issue a public statement giving them an alternative--whether they follow it or not--to getting blown up? Is it too much to ask for some clarity from this administration before we kill--perhaps--innocent civilians?
And is it possible, just possible, that these recent attacks on us are in retaliation for our hamfisted, clumsy, ill-defined policy?

Nice thought about the resignation, but it'll never happen. The Hillaroid is a stone power junkie and she'll crave & seek the stuff till the day she dies.

Well now Dave, she had to endure riding Slick Willie's coat tails for 20 something years to get to second fiddle. Why would anyone who would let this illegal run them out of a primary be worthy of being the president. No Hillary , you had your chance at the run and even the tears while wearing the pink suit and matching finger nails didn't get you on the ticket. You let obama run you out on a rail and then you came back to be his lacky. No respect left.

I gotta go with Dave on this one Stephie but if she does come back, trust me, she knows who helped "this illegal" run her out of the primary and there will be hell to pay.

Hillary serves at the pleasure of Valerie Jarrett.

Jeff, this time around you do not have the press beating the drum on a daily basis for her head, as they did for Rumsfeld's. For that reason, Rumsfeld became a liability to his president. Hillary serves as a cover for her president. People actually think that she makes policy. All decisions on foreign policy are made by the president, and the Sec. of State is merely the emissary who has to announce the policy, when the Pres. won't. Neat bit of double dealing. He can set whatever damaging policy he wants, and then stand there with a blank (cool) look on his face, and say "What, me worry."

I agree with the article. Ironically and to our dismay, in 2016, she will be trotted out as the democrat with the most gravitas because of her foreign policy "experience."
To the dems way of thinking, a "great" foreign policy ticket would be Hillary Clinton - Madeline Albright.

So a right wing idiot released a video, another right wing religious zealot advertised and promoted that idiot, right wing Islamists wen't bonkers and used this as an excuse to attack while the lemming like right wing poor were protesting and suddenly the team that ended the war in Iraq, presided over the fall of Libya, got Bin Laden and has been kicking terrorist butts all over the globe needs to go because of 3 deaths and some embassy's getting torched in extremely violent regions of countries undergoing sweeping changes.
I am no Hillary fan, I worked hard to insure she wasn't President Elect Hillary Clinton but recent issue's aside by every OBJECTIVE measure she has been a far more successful player than any of her predecessors during the Bush debacle.
Let's be perfectly clear here, Obama put the right person in place for that job. My personal distaste for her doesn't interfere with my ability to measure her job performance without prejudice and that appears to be a skill sadly lacking here among the faithful right wing lemmings and good old Jeff Lord. I'm not nearly as bright or talented as Mr Lord is, but my judgement also isn't clouded by pure partisan drivel as his (and most of your agendas appear to be here).
WAaaaaa is pretty much all I here from the right. What are your solutions? Bomb some more countries? Walk away completely? Please spea up and tell me what you would have done differently with your 20-20 hindsite.
