Ben Stein's Diary

Mr. President, Mitt Romney Is Not the Enemy

Al Qaeda is. Please inform your Ministry of Truth.

So, let me get this straight:

It is September 11, 2012. An Al Qaeda sponsored mob is marching, running, screaming towards the U.S. Embassy in Cairo. Supposedly they are angry about an e-mail cartoon about the Islamic figure, Mohammed. It is known right away that the organizers of the march are the same entity that did the mass murder of Americans on 9.11.01.

The Embassy issues an apology for an American using his free speech rights about a matter of deep concern. They attempt to appease the mob. It doesn’t work. The mobs acts violently and disrespectfully towards the U.S. Embassy. They are al Qaeda. This is what they do.

No comment or almost none from Mr. Obama.

Then an al Qaeda mob attacks the U.S. Mission in Benghazi, Libya, burns it, kills the U.S. Ambassador and three other heroic American diplomats. Again, in a classic al Qaeda move, it is all timed perfectly to infuriate the USA. It isn’t spontaneous. It was 9/11, for Pete’s sake.

No comment from Mr. Obama except terse condolences.

Then along comes Governor Romney, who rightly says, “Hey, why are we appeasing an al Qaeda mob? Why aren’t we calling these guys the vicious killers that they are? Why are we back in this apology to bad guys mode?”

Then, and only then, the Obama White House goes into hyper drive. It turns out that the real problem is not al Qaeda. No, and it’s not Mr. Obama’s appeasement. No, the real threat to America is (wait for it), Mitt Romney. Yes!!! According to White House uber-pal, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, Romney is working with the terrorists against the U.S. government by calling for criticism of the al Qaeda!

Yes, Romney is the enemy for pointing out that Mr. Obama is ass kissing the terrorists!

This is terrifying. The media line up to get their marching orders from the Obama Ministry of Truth and suddenly it’s Gospel: the problem is not al Qaeda. It is Romney. With a “more in sorrow than in anger…” look and tone, Mr. Obama pities Romney’s naïveté.

This is disgusting. It is nauseating. This is what happens when you have a one-party media. The lie becomes the truth. George Orwell saw it coming. In 1984, his MiniTrue had up its mission.

Who controls the present, controls the past.
Who controls the past controls the future.

It has happened. The MSM and the White House have outlawed truth. Some of us old ones can remember when it was legal and the media worked to keep it alive. Now, like the firemen in Fahrenheit 451, the MSM press exists to obliterate truth — not to preserve it.

Meanwhile, Mr. Netanyahu begs the U.S. to do something to protect it and the world from the Iranian bomb. Mr. Obama bobs and weaves to avoid contact with reality and responsibility. No one even mentions that if we had allowed Ronald Reagan or George W. Bush to build ABM defense, the whole world would be a safer place, and we race towards war or an Islamic control of our expression or both, and the master politician gets ready for his turn on Letterman.

God help us.

You state that Obama does not know the truth about radical Islam because nobody will tell him the truth? Get serious. Even Obama is not that stupid. He must know, or else he is the stupidest person in the USA. In addition to just reading the daily news, he has a briefing every morning on the problems in the world. The only conclusion is either he is stupid or does not care.

fmm| 9.13.12 @ 9:16AM

Recent reports show that the zerO skips at least half of his security briefings, so he is really not on top of anything. In addition, there is no evidence that zerO is a reasonable person.

HE'S A MUSLIM.

Why is this so hard to admit, or a accept, or comprehend?

All of this Scatching of Heads: "Why did he Punish Honduras, while Doing Nothing with Iran as they Murdered the Protesters in the Streets of Tehran? Why does he go in to Libya on the pretense that Khaddafi killed 150 Protesters, yet he SITS ON HIS HANDS as Thousands are Murdered by Assad, in Syria?"

He Meets with The Muslim Brotherhood. He ORGANIZED the Jew Hating Louis Farrakhan's Million Man March, and is still friends with Farrakhan, as well as Khalid Rashidi, and that other Muslim Piece of Sh*t who used to teach in Florida.

Yet, he won't meet with Netanyahu.

Why won't the LA TIMES release the Video of Obama at Khalid Rashidi's Going Away Party?

WHAT ARE THEY HIDING?

Why does he Sh*t on Israel, at every turn, while performing Fellatio on our Muslim Enemies?

Why does HAMAS believe that he was "Sent by their god to Destroy the Jews, and Deliver Jerusalem back in to Muslim hands? Why have they given him the name - ABU HUSSAIN - Son of the Father? (They think he is the Equivilent of JESUS) Why?

And why does everybody seem so intent on Denying The Obvious?

sam1953| 9.13.12 @ 2:58PM

The implications of these highly-honed tactics of deception could be enormous for unassuming Western societies. Twenty years ago, psychologist Paul Ekman wrote an insightful book, “Telling Lies”, which demonstrated that people give off recognizable clues when they are practicing deceit. Their consciences cause them, involuntarily, to sweat or raise their voices or make other recognizable gestures. However, Dr. Ekman’s research was exclusively with people from Western cultures. Muslims, on the other hand, show no discernible signs when they are being deceitful because there is no feeling of guilt. In their minds they are doing exactly what Allah wants them to do to advance Islam. Because any Western person who has raised children knows almost intuitively when someone is lying, so they assume they can do that in all cases. Unfortunately, those same Western people can be easily duped by Islamic deceit because there are no tell-tale signs in the deceiver.

Even a Blind Man could see it.

He does not care, and he has surrounded himelf with uncaring people. How on God's green earth are there not hundreds of dead protesters lying about the embassy grounds? Where are the dead Marines who died protecting our Ambassador? What the he double L is wrong with this Government?

Drunken Sailor| 9.13.12 @ 11:50AM

Don't blame the Marines, there were none present. Even if there were this administration would have most likely tied their hands with a ROE designed not to offend anyone.

Frekki| 9.13.12 @ 11:56AM

I never blame the Marines. They only go where their leader sends them. Why, after the flag burning, didn't this administration not send 20 Marines to every embassy, to every diplomat, to every American sovereign ground in Arabia?
What is wrong with these people?

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor, he speaks in accents familiar to his victims and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear."

What's wrong with this government is . . we have an America hating Muslim in the off ice of the presidency . . .put there by the lying, socialistic media which lies and distorts the truth in order to fool the American public.

The radical Islamic crowds in Cairo were not screaming the name of this non discript movie, rather, they were screaming words to the effect,"WE'RE ALL OSAMA'S, OBAMA.
What is there not to get? Obozo is a dismal failure, both as a fake Christian and as a Muslim. So much for the "Arab Street" loving this guy and America.
Any fool that bought that crap should be chained to the American Embassy in Cairo as a human shield for being so stupid.

There isn't much wiggle room in the statement, "We are all Osama!" If killing one Osama was good, wouldn't mowing down a thousand of them be +good? ++good?

He is EVIL to his Core.

How are things going, Occam?

Occam's Tool| 9.13.12 @ 8:05PM

Pretty damn fine up here isolated from the world as I am. I hope all is well with you, my friend.

Here's a quote for some of the jihadi apologists:

“ "The Day of Judgement will not come about until Muslims fight the Jews , when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Muslims, O Abdullah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him. Only the Gharkad tree, (a certain kind of tree) would not do that because it is one of the trees of the Jews." (related by al-Bukhari and Muslim).Sahih Muslim, 41:6985, see also Sahih Muslim, 41:6981, Sahih Muslim, 41:6982, Sahih Muslim, 41:6983, Sahih Muslim, 41:6984, Sahih al-Bukhari, 4:56:791,(Sahih al-Bukhari, 4:52:177)

This hadith has been quoted countless times, and it has become a part of the charter of Hamas.

OK, Jack and the rest of you? The Islamists wish to kill people.

TLP, you rock and roll, sir. G-d Bless.

TLP| 9.13.12 @ 8:58PM

Isn't that what Muslim Mickey Mouse says to Muslim 5 Year olds?

Intelligent Design| 9.13.12 @ 8:26AM

Obama and his Demo-Socialist comrades think American citizens should self-censor to please Muslim terrorists. If reelected, Obama has probably pledged to the Muslim Brotherhood to suspend the First Amendment, and arrest those who criticize Islam.

I have a feeling many Americans don't understand the essence of Islam, which is the merger of so-called "church" and state to form a totalitarian government and destroy freedom. Islam is a 7th century political ideology which is completely hostile and subversive to the U.S. Constitution. It's as if the Vatican aimed to rule the U.S. government.

DTOM| 9.13.12 @ 9:52AM

Religions do not invoke corporal punishment, especially capital punishment. Governments do. Islam is NOT a religion, it is a form of government. Islam dons the "cloak" of a religion to fool people and governments in allowing it to exist.

We and our laws do not countenance sedition or treason-but Islam tries to make fools of us by claiming to be a religion, not a government.

A religion can only claim men's souls not their bodies. Islam is NOT a religion. It does not deserve First Amendment protections any more than communism and socialism do.

Don't Tread On Me!!!

Pelleas| 9.13.12 @ 12:55PM

"Religions do not invoke corporal punishment, especially capital punishment."

I wonder if you remember The Spanish Inquisition ?

Granted... it was a long time ago, BUT ...the Catholic Church in Spain DID have thousands of "infidels" murdered

Other versions of the same sort of Church sanctioned "punishments" (Auto de Fe (s) occurred in a number of other European countries, prior to the era of "the enlightenment" ( the begining of the 18th Cent.)

This isn't even mentioning the number of pogroms that were Church -sanctioned, against Jewish communities , from the Middle Ages ( around the time of the First Crusade), onwards....

I am NOT "bashing" Christianity...BUT...IT DID OCCUR, even in "the civilized West"

DTOM| 9.13.12 @ 1:22PM

It is not part of the DOCTRINE.

The Koran tells them to kill Jews. The Koran tells them that those who do not convert to Islam may be killed.

Christ said Love your neighbor as yourself.

Nobody has jumped up to affirm the Inquisition as faithful to Christ's teachings, have they now? The Inquisitors were actually committing very serious sins, AND crimes...

The Ten Commandments said Thou shalt not murder.

Get it yet?

Pelleas| 9.13.12 @ 2:07PM

"Nobody has jumped up to affirm the Inquisition as faithful to Christ's teachings, have they now?"

WELL-- The Pope(s) of those years DID affirm the Inquisition as faithful to the Church's teachings

PLEASE quote the EXACT passages of The Koran which tells its followers to kill Jews...?

(and if there "really is" such a passage, how does that jibe with the period of time, during the Muslim rule of Spain, when Muslims/Christians/and Jews/ lived in peace---?

Stkman| 9.13.12 @ 2:14PM

"and if there "really is" such a passage, how does that jibe with the period of time, during the Muslim rule of Spain, when Muslims/Christians/and Jews/ lived in peace---?"
I don't think they lived in overall peace then, they don't now, and they won't in the future. Some things are just what they are.

TLP| 9.13.12 @ 3:20PM

Pelleas is what SHE is.

As long as he gets to Marry his Sodomy Partner?

He could care less how this Muslim Fck destroys this Country.

He's in Las Vegas, RAISING MONEY, a day after Two American Diplomatic Missions were SACKED, and an American Ambassador was RAPED, and MURDERED.

He's STILL out there RAISING MONEY, today, as our Embassies are being threatened in Yemen, and other places in the Sh*thole Middle East.

If George Bush had done anything like this, he'd be throwing his Used Condoms at him, and the little MFer knows it.

What a Piece of Sh*t.

Minuteman78| 9.14.12 @ 9:55AM

TLP, you've got it. A lying, American-hating, sociopathic, Muslim piece of s**t.

Pelleas| 9.13.12 @ 4:21PM

Still waiting for the passages of The Koran that SPECIFICALLY order its followers to "kill the Jews".....

TLP| 9.13.12 @ 6:24PM

All of them do.

Now, go put a banana up your ass, ya puke.

Occam's Tool| 9.13.12 @ 6:03PM

Multiple passages, and Muhammed's own actions towards the Jews of Medina.

Pelleas| 9.13.12 @ 7:39PM

WHERE ARE those "multiple passages"...?

There ARE passages, however, which actually praise BOTH Christians and Jews, for their common beliefs in one god...

( there ARE also passages which treat other religions rather harshly---but then again , so do both the OLD and New Testaments--BUT I want to see one SPECIFIC passage from the Koran which orders its followers to KILL Jews (or Christians)

The Old Testament is full of a god "smoting" people , who refused to believe in him..and the New Testament is full of passages that say that only through the belief in Jesus Christ will one reach salvation and go to heaven

Neither of those sound very tolerant, of those who might not be sold, by those arguments, no?

Occam's Tool| 9.13.12 @ 8:07PM

See above, pelleas. Note the Hamas charter.

As usual, these rulings will be followed or not depending upon where the graft and power is, as Islam and tyranny are synonymous.

Pelleas| 9.13.12 @ 9:34PM

OT:

If you are referring to the "Sahih Muslim" quotes you provided-- THOSE ARE NOT PART OF THE KORAN, itself...

They are to The Koran, in a similar vein as The Talmud is to The Torah, or various concordances are to The Bible , as a whole--or specifically to The New Testament

INTERPRETATIONS--ONLY--written WAY AFTER the original source material ..and with all the biases of the times they were written .

(BTW-- you never responded to this one--Do YOU believe that The Shoah was "God's Plan", and that Hitler was God's messenger..as was claimed by someone here , whom you seem to admire?)

Jack in Wi| 9.13.12 @ 4:12PM

Pellas you are all wet. Jews, Muslims, and pagans were not subject to the Inquisition. It was only for baptized Christians. Rome has the longest continuous Jewish Community in the world, over 2000 years. The Pope was absolute ruler of Rome for over 1000 of those years. For 2000 years Christians have put up with our Jewish neighbors in a bad marriage. Before WW2 about 90% of Jews lived in Christian countries. About 10% in Muslim countries. We Christians have put up with a lot and I am not saying we did not misbehave at times as well. But don't give me thsi baloney that it is all one sided. We had the power to exterminate all Jews many times and never did it because it is against our religion. We had hoped that the Jews would accept voluntary conversion but in most instances it was not forced. Huge numbers of Jews have voluntarily converted over the centuries and most Christians from Europe and the Middle East have a Jewish ancestor somewhere. The same is true of most Muslims, from those areas, I would guess.

Pelleas| 9.13.12 @ 4:30PM

" We Christians have put up with a lot and I am not saying we did not misbehave at times as well. But don't give me thsi baloney that it is all one sided. We had the power to exterminate all Jews many times and never did it because it is against our religion"

-----
Pray, tell me---WHAT EXACTLY did you "Christians" have to "put up with" from the Jews?

WHAT EXACTLY is "the other side" of what YOU "CLAIM" is my "one-side arguement?

One reason that ,through-out history, the Christians weren't able to "totally exterminate" the Jewish people ( at those times when they were trying their hardest to do so) was that "time was on our (jews) side"--and for whatever reason, our enemies ran out of the time to complete their mission

Jack in Wi| 9.14.12 @ 3:48AM

Baloney Pellas: Whenever Jews had power over the Christians they have trated them badly from the Roman Empire to Spain and Poland where they were nasty middle men for the ruling elites and loan sharks to the peasentry. Then we have Russia and the 50 million Christians that were exterminated. They tried to stamp out every vestige of Christianity. In 2000 years of of a bad marriage between Christians and Jews we never came close to doing anything like that. Hitler was blowback from it. It caused huge amount of antisemitism in Europe in which a lot of innocent Jews were caught up in.

Jews in most Christian countries were allowed to practice their faith and pass it on to their children. If they hadn't been you boys would not be here.

Pelleas| 9.14.12 @ 9:20AM

I NOW TAKE BACK ANY DEFENSE I might have posted, concerning what I THOUGHT was Jack's lack of Anti-semitism, even though he IS an anti-Zionist.

I ALSO APOLOGIZE for wasting anyone's time, in such a blind, stupid, misguided defense....

Jack is a fucking creepy Anti-Semitic PRICK of the worst sort,,,MAY HE BE DAMNED FOREVER...

Occam's Tool| 9.13.12 @ 7:33PM

Jews in Spain suffered from the inquisition, Cheesehead, since there were no Jews alloweed, and many did not wish to leave.

Jack, you are an illiterate and historically ignorant fool.

Jack in Wi| 9.14.12 @ 3:38AM

Jews were forced to leave but they were not subject to the Inquisition which was for baptized Christians. The same was true of Muslims. The Inquisition didn't kick the Jews out. The King and Queen of Spain gave them the option of converting and being full citizens, or leaving with their property. They also did the same with their Muslim subjects. Frankly this country would be a far better place if we did the same with these 2 groups who have been nothing but trouble for the last few years. Of course I only mean garbage like you Occam. It is wrong to put the sins of some of a group on the everyone. You still are a complete know nothing about history and most everything else.

Intelligent Design| 9.13.12 @ 8:30AM

After Obama is thrown into the garbage truck of history on 11/6, and he is evicted from our White House, he will probably become a professor of American Un-Exceptionalism at some academic cesspool, supplementing his income as a paid consultant to the Muslim Brotherhood, whose aim is the destruction of Western civilization from within. Obama is a treacherous impostor.

Mike G| 9.13.12 @ 11:12AM

You're kind of wrong. Why should he work? The minute he leaves office he stands in line to get over $8 MILLION dollars, from GreenBank, one of his bailout buddies, where he, Hillary, Gore, and several other people are on the Board of Directors. His 'vacancy' on that board has been held open since his election.

He is following the age old premise of "there is money to be made in both the building and the destruction of a civilization". Guess which one he is counting on, even purposefully directing...

Jack in Wi| 9.13.12 @ 8:34AM

Radical Islam is the result of us being in their neighborhood and killing their people. There never was a suicide bomber until the Israel and the USA began poaching in the Middle East. The solution is easy. Lets get the hell out now. Our whole policy in the Middle East since WW2 has been a disaster. The Middle East was friendly to us until then. We were very admired for our anti-colonial stands. When we started acting like old colonial powers the poop hit the fan. It is time to end it not mend it. Bring the troops home and let the Middle East figure it out for themselves. It is going to happen anyhow, no matter if Romney or Obama is elected. This country is broke fighting endless and insane wars. Neoconservatives like Ben above have been wrong forever. It is time they just shut up and went away.

CJW| 9.13.12 @ 8:43AM

Islam has been radical for the past 1600 years, since its inception. You may want to read about the battle of Lepanto, at Vienna, and Charles Martel defeating them at southern France.

You may not know this, but the USA was not even in existence then, but you will tell us that those smart Islamists knew the USA would be formed, and that hurt their feelings.

megapotamus | 9.13.12 @ 9:29AM

Islam was an intellectural, cultural, and economic backwater which hadn't done much in hundreds of years. We stirred up the pot and brought up all the trouble we have today. We are leaving sooner rather then later. The sooner we get out the better for all sides.

JP| 9.13.12 @ 2:11PM

Yes, of course. First people like you attempted to frame the debate in Marxist terms (they were just poor goat herders fighting the Man). Then it was our "imperialism"; funny thing, Bin Laden spent the last 30 years of his life outside of Saudi Arabia; Mohammed Atta was the son of a properous engineer. The Tube bombers were English citizens. What all three groups had in common - bored middle class/wealthy Muslims with a taste for violence and anarchy.

Do a little research on the founding of the radical Muslim Brotherhood in the early part of the 20th century. The group was not founded due to American presence in North Africa or the Middle East. Then do a little research about the drive to recreate a Caliphate that encompasses the entire world. Google is your friend.

You cannot explain US Imperialism on the Islamic violence in Thailand, the Philippines, India (which has been ongoing for hundreds of years), Niger, and South America (yes, it's even in our own backyard now). Perhaps you can explain the Muslim invasion of the Iberian Penninsula (some 1500 years ago); or the Islamic invasion of Southeast Europe beginning 800 years and culminating at the Gates of Vienna in the 17th Century?

Yes, I distinctly remember how friendly Tripoli was to us, say, in 1800.

Jack, I agree Nation Building has done no good, because savages cannot be civilized. Pelleas, for all my disagreements with him, recognizes, unlike many gays, that Islam will murder his kind.

The correct response is to treat the Islamic countries that kill our citizens as we treated Japan in WWII. As our power differential is greatly superior to what it was to Japan in 1943, the job is infinitely easier, as collateral damage should be a minor factor in our calculations.

But Jack, you are a Dhimmi or an Islamist. Personally, I believe you belong to CAIR, as I have met no other Catholic with your views, ever. Nick is much more representative than you are, Cheesehead.

They are as evil if not more so than the likes of Obama, Hillary, etc. They are NEVER to be trusted to report truth - and we should be doing all we can to remove them as we will remove the commie Democrat party. They hate America and they reveal it every chance they can. DO NOT buy their papers - DO NOT watch their shows. When ever someone spouts some nonsence that they heard from them - challenge them to stop being indoctrinated by the commie news network. The media has formally declared war on America - well let's formally fight back.

Yes, I usually skip old Ben's wanderings and did not realize this was his article due to the title. Glad he actually used his formidable brain for once.

One of the Obamacons. Yeesh. Hopefully Jews across the land and across the globe are snapping out of that delusion. Cheers, Benji. Or a single cheer, at any rate.

megapotamus | 9.13.12 @ 9:19AM

This situation could have been turned to American and Obama's advantage, but not after the fact. There is no reason that the accomodationist stance could not be accompanied by very stout policies of self-defense. In Benghazi the local gunmen hired for security either colluded or collapsed and it is looking more like the former. In Cairo, while the intel services gave some warning (but aren't they always?) the cops did nothing to oppose the attack which, in both cases, were armed and in Libya that included RPGs. So what to do? Simple. Shoot back. Even if the embassies are scarcely manned these facilities are built (or could be and should be) with defenses both modern and medieval. If that crowd had been turned into a wailing puddle of blood, what would be the result? But Obama has no stomach for that although a fan of the high-flying drone. At least in this case good ol' Common Law and common sense concepts of self-defense were clearly in play. When these freaks declare, I am Osama! we should take them at their word and treat them accordingly. That said, I don't think it is clear that embassies are really called for in all these dusty ratholes. Did Benghazi really need its own consular office? But if we have them, they must be defended. There is a reason embassy grounds are considered a little bit of the home country in all nations of the world. It is a good one.

in_awe| 9.13.12 @ 1:59PM

There are reports on the web today documenting an existing State Department report that showed that resources for security have been lacking and that rather than Marines, private security guards have been hired for many locations. The Benghazi consulate had "lock and key" security which means normal door locks - no bulletproof glass, no safety room, etc. The only somewhat defensible building was apparently compromised in advance because extremely accurate mortar and machine gun fire rained down on it during the attack. The Obama administration should be questioned by Congress about why an American diplomatic facility had essentially no security in an area with known ties to al Qaeda, jihadists with combat experience in Afghanistan, and many armed former Gaddafi loyalists. I'm guessing that won't happen until after the election, if ever.

TLP| 9.13.12 @ 3:41PM

The Marines had NO BULLETS IN THEIR GUNS.

Mary| 9.13.12 @ 9:20AM

This was a coordinated attack not because of a movie about Mohammed but because it was the anniversary of 9/11. Mitch showed true leadership something Obama is incapable of showing. Obama is truly the laziest, slimiest, affirmative action president we have ever had. If Romney wouldn't have spoken out nothing would have been done about the killings. The Obama regime would have just brushed it under the rug.

Which why would the embassy issue a statement like this without any prior incident? It makes no sense. Seal Team 6 anyone and the lack of investigation into their deaths.

I am so sick of hearing about those hate filled Christians. You know the ones who kill because of movies about God, and make their women wear burkas and not be allowed to drive, and practice honor killings. Oh wait those aren't Christians those are Muslims. But hey we are not allowed to say they are extreme and hate filled.

megapotamus | 9.13.12 @ 9:26AM

True there, though it is Mitt, not Mitch. If Romney had not spoken these simple truths NO ONE would have, clearly. Not Boner or the rest of the leadership. Not Sununu... I mean, what? This guy was all blazing six-guns domestically but he torpedoes Romney on this? Certainly the Press Corpse could not be bothered with any serious questioning, like why was no defense offered? Where are the bodies of the "demonstrators"? And on Sep 11th? Really? All this crap about Never Forget only extended to the moment before the follow up? Make no mistake, these were probing attacks. The Islamists are gauging our responses; political as well as anything else. The murder of Stevens was a big and personal F-U to the West which includes both us and Israel and, oddly, to Obama personally as the chanting made plain. They met no resistance. They will escalate until stopped with lead and fire. Not before.

Mary| 9.13.12 @ 10:48AM

Sorry, I know his name is Mitt. I am just so angry at how Obama and the Islamists are always given a pass. I missed the typo but I won't miss the election to get this radical out of our government.

John Navratil| 9.13.12 @ 10:53AM

Indy| 9.13.12 @ 9:20AM

He calls out a phony "war on women" but he cannot call the terrorist attack on Ft. Hood what it was (it was not a workplace shooting) and he cannot call the attacks on our embassy in Egypt and the murders of Americans in Libya a terrorist attack on the first Sept. 11th anniversary after the death of Osama, really and you expect us to believe you? He's worse than Carter at least Carter would have stayed in the WH and not gone back on the campaign trail but hey, who has time to attend daily intel briefing sessions for the the full week prior to the anniversary of September 11th? No orders to beef up security especially in the ME prior to Sept. 11th? It's rare that I quote Bill Clinton but "give me a break"

"Asked directly on Wednesday evening if Tuesday's deadly violence in Libya was "linked to a terror attack" – possibly al-Qaeda – a State Department official demurred:

"Frankly, we are not in a position to speak any further to the perpetrators of this attack. It was clearly a complex attack. We’re going to have to do a full investigation," the unnamed "senior administration official" told a background teleconference briefing."
http://cnsnews.com/news/articl.....ror-attack

Friday will be ugly, look for massive protests in the ME. Will the Brass step up and make sure we have enough Marines to defend our embassies? Will they have clear rules of engagement to use lethal force to defend our embassies?

A. C. Santore| 9.13.12 @ 12:57PM

Indy wrote, "...he cannot call the terrorist attack on Ft. Hood what it was (it was not a workplace shooting) and he cannot call the attacks on our embassy in Egypt and the murders of Americans in Libya a terrorist attack on the first Sept. 11th anniversary "

I'm surprised that Obama and his shining lights haven't called the death of our ambassador "workplace violence," too.

gene| 9.13.12 @ 9:32AM

Mr. Stein,

I think you are attempting to be overly diplomatic in this. The President already knows that the Radical Islamists are not our frinds and want to do us harm. The great tragedy and horror is that he does not care. And the MSM seems to be on the same track. They do not care. No matter how much blood is shed. Remember, Hitler and his minions did not murder millions of Europe's Jews by themselves. There were millions who particpated and then later, very lamely stated, they were just "following orders".

Stkman| 9.13.12 @ 9:51AM

Gene,
If the President and the media already know that these poeple are what they are, what does that make the President and the media? It makes them complacent and best and traitorous at worst. I'm going with worst.

Jack London| 9.13.12 @ 9:41AM

'The Embassy issues an apology for an American using his free speech rights about a matter of deep concern.'

So you support Americans making bigoted films about other religions? The matter of 'deep concern' is that we have people who are putting American lives in danger with inflammatory material.

And the person in the embassy who sent the Tweet didn't apologize – it was a note similar to others sent in similar circumstances over the years condemning offensive views. That's not the same as condemning free speech.

John Navratil| 9.13.12 @ 9:55AM

Jack London,

I don't support people making bigoted films about other religions or races or political stripes. I do not support Michael Moore films. But I DO support their ability to make them.

If you are ready to suppress speech because it if inflammatory, then you ARE condemning free speech. The very speech the First Amendment protect is inflammatory, reactionary, political speech. You cannot have it both ways. The Constitution is not an etiquette guide.

The tweet condemning the film was a political statement and was, literally, an apology (look up to meaning of the word). We must not apologize for our Constitution. If their skin is so thin, they should bleed to death.

Jack London| 9.13.12 @ 10:07AM

No John - there's a difference in condemning views and condemning the right to say them. If you shouted on the street - 'All Jews should be gassed' - I think you would expect people to condemn your view.

John Navratil| 9.13.12 @ 10:16AM

Jack London,

Indeed I would, but I would not expect them to kill me. Are you ready to stop the making of films which insult Mohammed?

Jack London| 9.13.12 @ 11:51AM

Well John - we do live in a world where people are persecuted and killed for expressing certain views. I wish this weren't the case - but don't you think we have to take the world as it is at the present, and not a fantasy?

The point is, I don't want to stop anything, but people are also free to condemn things as dangerous incitement, are they not? Or do you want to shut down their free speech?

John Navratil| 9.13.12 @ 12:12PM

Jack London,

A you drinking? Your train of argument is like the break shot of a game of billiards.

(1) I don't care to suppress anyone's speech.
(2) I don't want our government to apologize for the free speech activities of its citizens. It's useless precedent at best and an indication that the government thinks it can judge individual speech. Furthermore, the government has no First Amendment rights, only the people do; and for the purpose of criticizing the government. The government speaks for the people and for the people to tell the government NOT to apologize to terrorists shuts down no one's free speech.
(3) I don't want anyone killing anyone over his speech.
(4) I REALLY don't want anyone killing someone over what someone else has said.
(5) Allah must be some weak S.O.B. if he needs such a vigorous defense.
(6) Killing an ambassador is an act of war and should be treated as such, and not with "understanding".
(7) I am fully aware that there as people persecuted for expression certain views. That's just one reason why I consider America exceptional.

Now, answer my question. Are you prepared to stop the making of films which insult Mohammed?

Jack London| 9.13.12 @ 12:25PM

For goodness sake- there has been no apology about free speech. There has been condemnation of bigoted material designed to incite.

And no - I already said I don't want to stop anything. The point you are not addressing is whether we should be mindful of the way things are - that these people will go crazy. That means that maybe you should think twice about publishing material that puts lives in danger. With rights also come responsibilities to other people, such as our embassy staff.

Nick| 9.13.12 @ 12:46PM

Then you should practice what you preach, Jack'o, and shut-up, right?
Your inane comments may provoke someone to violence, after all.

John Navratil| 9.13.12 @ 12:48PM

Jack London,

Thus spake the great Jack London, arbiter of international decorum, protector of appropriate free speech, definer of apology, and defender of Muslim sensitivities.

No one is responsible for the freely exercised actions of another. It's called freedom for a reason.

John Navratil| 9.13.12 @ 12:49PM

Jack London,

And, you still haven't answered my question. Are you prepared to stop the making of a film which insults Mohammed?

Oldefarte| 9.13.12 @ 1:10PM

Possibly it would be responsible to not even have those people there in the first place, no? Possibly it would be responsible to not have our military assist/aid and internal struggle within a Muslim dominated country, no? Maybe it would be responsible to not bow before Muslim authority figures, no? Possibly it would be responsible to not commendere airplanes and then fly same into crowded office buildings, no? Possibly it would be responsible to not decapitate Jewish journalists, non-foreign military contractors etc, no???????????

DTOM| 9.13.12 @ 1:26PM

Oh Jack, when the State Department Tweeted (PUBLISHED) their apology for the insult to the so-called Muslim faith that was the government apologizing for citizens exercising their God-given right to free speech.

What else could it be?

DTOM

Oldefarte| 9.13.12 @ 1:15PM

Jack, isn't the true question as to whether or not an expression of free speech is/was an incitement to tnything? Should the true question be instead the inherent animalistic nature of certain sub-humans who have no respect for life and liberty, and a supposed g-d which proclamates thus within books etc?????????????

TLP| 9.13.12 @ 4:01PM

Anthony| 9.13.12 @ 10:51AM

Mr. London, If you spent two minutes reading your own posts, and reflecting upon them, you'd see just how your moral relativism has reduced you to an inane blubbering idiot.
Your moral equilivance demands that we must apologize or condemn any insignificant comment or observation made anywhere in the USA, a country of 300 M people, simply because it will incite rabid, Islamic jihadists, who have no sense of proportion or respect for any ideas other than their 7th century radical religion.
If you think your actions, and those of your fellow appeasers will have these fanatics acting like mature adults, think again.
They won't even sharpen the blade for you when they cut off your head. That's the thanks you'll get for your cowardice!!!

Jack London| 9.13.12 @ 11:58AM

Anthony - as I said to John, surely we have to take the world as it is today. You say the extremists won't behave like mature adults - but isn't that the point? Let's try a test: would you deliberately provoke them knowing our people may be in danger, just because you can, with no responsibility on your part?

John Navratil| 9.13.12 @ 12:18PM

Jack London,

Logical fallacy, you beg the question! No one should be in danger because of something I say. How would I know what not to say? If someone is going to kill someone else for what I say, then they should be killed.

It's like saying your grandmother is responsible for your foolishness because she bore your mother.

Jack London| 9.13.12 @ 12:27PM

'How would I know what not to say?'

What, you mean you don't know what constitutes an insult to Islam? Don't be stupid.

John Navratil| 9.13.12 @ 12:42PM

Jack London,

I know, but reject, what constitute an affront to Islam. You still begged the question.

And, you still haven't answered mine. Are you prepared to stop the making of a file which insults Mohammed?

Jack London| 9.13.12 @ 1:15PM

I did answer John - no I would not ban anything (unless it's illegal, like child pornography).

I know you reject affronts to Islam. So do I. Again, that's not the point. The point is what happens. Let's make it real simple:

You walk into a room and see your wife strapped to a bomb. It can only be defused by saying 'Obama'. But if you say 'Romney' it goes off. So - do you exercise your right to free speech and say 'Romney'?

John Navratil| 9.13.12 @ 1:53PM

Jack London,

It's called "begging the question." And you are doing it again. Free speech has absolutely nothing to do with your loaded question. Now, if someone else walks in and says "Romney", are they to blame?

So now that you admit that you will not stop someone from making a film insulting Mohammed, are you not complicit in the murder of the ambassador? By your reasoning, yes!

Jack London| 9.13.12 @ 2:06PM

'Free speech has absolutely nothing to do with your loaded question'

It's not a loaded question John. It's about whether actions have consequences. If you know in advance the consequences, then you may have to live with them while others die.

Let's use your example. Let's say you know your neighbor is the one making that anti-Muslim movie. You also know that the government has put out alerts about threats to Americans in Libya (which they have). Do you tell anyone about your neighbor?

John Navratil| 9.13.12 @ 2:52PM

Jack London,

Take a logic course, Jack. I'm wasting my time. Meanwhile you go one accepting responsibility for the ambassador's murder.

Jack London| 9.13.12 @ 3:48PM

You've dodged the question because you hold to the position that whatever you say or observe others saying you cannot bear any responsibility for the actions of others. You think that a film that is designed to incite violence is logically separate from that violence. But is is also logical that a decision not to make the film would not result in that violence.

John Navratil| 9.13.12 @ 4:10PM

Jack London,

I've not dodged the question, I've invalidated it.

Logic lesson number 1 (why do I waste my time?):

A implies B has the sequent ~B (read "not B") implies ~A. It does not follow that ~A implies ~B. Your last sentence is complete crap because other things may imply B.

Making the film incites violence.
Burning a Quran incites violence.
Female reporters incite violence.

For there to be no violence, ALL of the causes of violence must be suppressed. Now, please list for me ALL of the causes of Muslim violence and present a means of suppressing those causes.

You take as a given that this film incited the violence. Why? Because you believe the terrorists who said so. These are the same terrorists who decry the violence in English and praise it in Arabic. And you are there useful tool (every pun intended).

John Navratil| 9.13.12 @ 4:18PM

Jack London,

PS. This fallacy is called "denying the antecedent." Look it up.

Jack London| 9.13.12 @ 4:38PM

You're trying to be too clever. In doing so you are changing the argument, from the responsibilities associated with free speech to the demonstration of causality.

You are right that the causes of violence in this context are many, but wrong that the association between defaming Islam and a violent reaction is not strong, just as we accept the association between smoking and cancer, and in social science virtually everything in common currency.

Just ask Salman Rushdie, or the Danes who published those cartoons, or consider the impact of those pictures from Abu Ghraib.

As I said, your logical position is also to consider what would have happened if the film had not be made.

John Navratil| 9.13.12 @ 5:14PM

Jack London,

There are NO responsibilities associated with free speech. As I said before there are non-protected forms of speech, but making a film critical of a religion is not one of them.

"consider what would have happened if the film had not be made."

I did. It was the subject of my last post. You still ASSUME causality where it cannot be proven. Suggesting a film caused, or even contributed to, the ambassador's death is not the same a finding a causal association between smoking and cancer where studies of statistically significant number of smokers and non-smokers demonstrates a causality. Notice that it still does not say that any given smoker will develop cancer. You are too wrapped up in your certainty that you are blind.

Wouldn't your whole analysis be out the window if the ambassador was still killed by the mob. We will never know, but I suspect it would have happened - film or no film.

Jack London| 9.13.12 @ 5:58PM

So just to get this clear John - you see no connection with motive (such as making a film guaranteed to offend) and responsibility for the reaction to such a film.

On a tangent, do you a think that putting your own family in danger may be a responsibility?

I've never said that there is causality - that's your argument drift. What I said is that actions have consequences. What those consequences are we can only judge from what people say and do. In the case of Salman Rushdie, we can get pretty close to causality between the Satanic Verses, a fatwa and him in hiding for the rest of his life. To say that Muslim extremists aren't motivated and mobilized by affronts to their religion is to deny much evidence.

As for the ambassador, I agree that the evidence is that he may well have been a target anyway. But this is not to deny the role that anger about the film played in Cairo and Libya.

John Navratil| 9.13.12 @ 6:33PM

Jack London,

In a free world people are responsible for their own actions, not the actions of others. Only in the liberal village do we hold people responsible for other's actions.

Ralph Novy| 9.16.12 @ 6:33PM

"There are NO responsibilities associated with free speech"

Your goose is cooked, Navratil. Game over.

LMAO.

Anthony| 9.13.12 @ 6:38PM

John, An excellent explaination of the logical extension of Jack's fallacious thinking.
Jack refuses to acknowledge that the fallacy of his thinking validates every absurd precept of radical Islam. Hence, anything that is perceived as being offensive to Islam, is, by defination deemed to be offensive.
Hence, the radical Islamic hegemony over all others who might think or act differently.!!!
WOW complete and total capitulation!!!

John Navratil| 9.13.12 @ 8:56PM

Anthony,

Thanks! But Jack does not capitulate. Like the "Energizer Bunny", he goes on and on and on....

He, of course, denies he mentioned causality, yet his words say something else!

"would you deliberately provoke them knowing our people may be in danger, just because you can, with no responsibility on your part?"

"you don't know what constitutes an insult to Islam?"

"It's about whether actions have consequences"

"you hold to the position that whatever you say or observe others saying you cannot bear any responsibility for the actions of others. You think that a film that is designed to incite violence is logically separate from that violence"

Then he obfuscates:

"You're trying to be too clever. In doing so you are changing the argument, from the responsibilities associated with free speech to the demonstration of causality."

only to get back to causality:

"you see no connection with motive (such as making a film guaranteed to offend) and responsibility"

and in the same post says:

"I've never said that there is causality - that's your argument drift."

His head should explode! But that assumes it hasn't, already.

Ralph Novy| 9.16.12 @ 6:36PM

Anthony: learn English and thinking -- in some sort of "logical" order, eh? -- before you spout off.

Your post above was about as unintelligible/wrong-headed as it gets.

Alej| 9.13.12 @ 12:53PM

"What, you mean you don't know what constitutes an insult to Islam? Don't be stupid."

A few minutes ago you stated that we need to live in the world "the way it is."

So do radical ragheads. They need to know they will feel pain when we think it's appropriate. The pain that accompanies the eradication of entire villages, down to the last goat and cat.

Oldefarte| 9.13.12 @ 1:03PM

DTOM| 9.13.12 @ 1:33PM

The existence of a Jew or a Christian or a Bahai is an insult to Islam.

Should we all kill ourselves?

Islam sees insult in anything that is not Islam.

That is their method of controlling others.

It is NOT a religion, it is a form of government, just like socialism and communism. It seeks to rule this world, not the next! I say following Islam is seditious in any, non-Islamic country anywhere.

Look at Europe, they are figuring it out; the Russians are figuring it out. Notice how actively the Islamists have been bothering the Chinese? Like not at all, because they know the CHinese will not give them a second breath, once they reveal their intent.

We need to be a little more sanguine about Islam, that's the least that we owe the victims of Islamic terrorism, the world over.
Don't Tread On Me!!!

DTOM| 9.13.12 @ 10:06AM

Didn't militant Christians torture and murder the idiot who peed in a cup with a crucifix in it, calling it art? That our government paid him for...

Didn't militant, murderous Jews riot in Skokie, Illinois and kill the Illinois Nazis who dressed up like REAL Nazi SS men back in 1977? Which the Skokie police and the US Supreme Court actually had to protect?

Oh yea, the Jewish and Christian faiths do not profess murder as a form of conversion - only Islam does that...

Because Islam is NOT a religion - it is a form of government like socialism or communism. Consequently it does NOT merit First Amendment protection any more than communism and socialism do.

Don't Tread On Me

P.S. Although Jake and Elwood Blues' remedy for Illinois Nazis' desire to parade was pretty effective - but still not permissible under the Jewish or Christian faiths...DTOM

Jack London| 9.13.12 @ 10:09AM

Stkman| 9.13.12 @ 10:50AM

Jack,
Your views on how much pain you can endure while a Muslim tortures you is not the issue, it's how your tortueres feel that is the issue, and they feel good.
What an idiotic statement Jack. Islam and my views, your views, DTOMS views and everyone elses views on it ARE the issue, and the issue is about to come to a head on the world stage. You, at some point Jack will have to choose. This is and has become us against them. They percieve our patience as weakness, they have yet to see what the western world is capable of when we decide we've had enough, and it's pacifist like you who only lead these 6th century radicals to think they can beat us in a violent war. They don't even know the meaning of violence. They not experienced the death of hundreds of thousands with one bomb(although tye would like to show that to us and will do it to us if we don't stop them now). America has been acting like Chamberlin and we need to start acting like Patton for not only our survival, but the survival of the free world. We should invite China to join us or start cutting off trade with them. This is a fight ALL for all countries that want freedom and free trade to be involved in.

Jack London| 9.13.12 @ 12:00PM

Don't worry - we've killed hundreds of thousands, just not all in one go.

Stkman| 9.13.12 @ 12:15PM

Maybe we need to kill millions Jack? We may need to kill tens of millions. This has to stop. We shouldn't let them become any stronger when we have the ability to end it all now. We've already left a ton of debt to our kids. Do we need to leave them a nast war as well? Go sing Kumbaya some where Jack.

Equating the five century old error of Inquisition is as sensible as complaining about doctors bleeding their patients-a practice that was recognized as in error what a hundred years ago?

Nonsense, Pelleas, nonsense. You'll have to do better. You can't because you cannot equate the insidious governmental system that is called Islam to any major religion.

Jack London| 9.13.12 @ 11:59AM

would you deliberately provoke them knowing our people may be in danger, just because you can, with no responsibility on your part?

CJW| 9.13.12 @ 12:07PM

Whether they "feel provoked" is not justification to kill Americans, you idiot.

You are on the side of the muslim terrorrists who believe they can kill Americans if you say something they do not like. Can we kill muslims if they say something we do not like or they hurt our feelings?

Nick| 9.13.12 @ 12:07PM

You really are a typical marxist authoritarian, aren't you, Jack'o?

So, going by your...umm...logic, if someone had killed a gun store owner after Bowling For Columbine came out, Michael Moore would be partially responsible, correct?

Free-speech for thee, but, not for me, eh? Fascist.

Jack London| 9.13.12 @ 12:14PM

No - you're not getting it, are you. We already know that extremist Muslims will react if you insult the prophet, or whatever. What I'm asking you is - knowing that, and given the volatile situation in countries like Libya, would you happily create something that could set them off?

Nick| 9.13.12 @ 12:41PM

No, it is you who is not getting it, Jack'o.

Americans don't live their lives worrying if they offend psychopathic, blood-lusting, religious fanatics. Unlike you stinking lefties.

Answer my question, Jack'o.
Do you want the crooked A.G. Holder to prosecute the guy who made this video? Do you want to prosecute the Florida preacher (who didn't have anything to do with the video) like Mike Barnicle & Donny Douche want to do?

Jack London| 9.13.12 @ 2:09PM

No - I believe in free speech. But let's use an example I just put to John.

Let's say you know your neighbor is the one making that anti-Muslim movie. You also know that the government has put out alerts about threats to Americans in Libya (which they have). Do you tell anyone about your neighbor?

Nick| 9.13.12 @ 2:23PM

Tell who, you fascist dictator?
The movie police?

Man, you marxist authoritarians are unbelievable.
Answer my questions, Jack'o. Or should I assume that you would prosecute, based on your asinine premise, above?
I guess President Bush should've sent Michael 'Goebbels' Moore to GITMO, huh?

Jack London| 9.13.12 @ 2:33PM

Do you think there even isn't anything that could threaten our national security?

I guess if you had seen the 9/11 hijackers making final movies to their families you would have thought - 'that's free speech - let them get on with it.'

Nick| 9.13.12 @ 2:44PM

"Do you think there even isn't anything that could threaten our national security?"

Would you mind asking me this in English? You incoherent dope.

Answer my questions, Jack'o. And these, too: Are you claiming that the guy who made the YouTube video is the real terrorist?
And, not those who stormed the Egyptian embassy, burned down the Libyan consulate, and killed 4 Americans, are not?

Nick| 9.13.12 @ 2:49PM

p.s. To whom am I supposed to inform on my neighbors, Jack'o? The KGB or the Gestapo?
Or, Janet Napolitano?

Jack London| 9.13.12 @ 3:51PM

What do you think would have happened if he hadn't made the video?

George S| 9.13.12 @ 4:24PM

"What do you think would have happened if he hadn't made the video?"

They may have hijacked a 767 and flew it into a building killing innocents. Just kidding -- no movie, no violence. Brilliant observation, Jack.

Oh... wait... they did that when there wasn't a single cartoon or movie of Mohammed in existence.

So, Jack, what did we do? Befriended Israel? Then by your logic, we should part ways with Isreal because our alliance is just as offensive as a movie or cartoon?

Jack London| 9.13.12 @ 4:43PM

We know why they did 9/11 George. They said so. And yes, Israel was one reason.

Nick| 9.13.12 @ 5:29PM

I've answered your questions.
Now, answer mine, Jack'o Putz'o.

You are aware that O'Bama threw the diplomat, who made the apology, under the bus, aren't you? He disavowed the stupid statement that came out of the Egyptian embassy.

Stkman| 9.13.12 @ 12:18PM

I'd deliberately nuke tham. I'd of done that right after 9-11-01. They declared war on us and we have yet to properly respond.
Jack, you will never get it. You have a closed mind. Do you realize that, that you have a closed mind? That makes you a bigot Jack. That is you new name on this site and all ofus will now use it when we address you, Bigot Jack.

Oldefarte| 9.13.12 @ 12:56PM

"provoke them"? No, but I would [after evacuating all of our personnel] load five USAF B-52's to the gills with atomic bombs excessive of Nagasaki-ism and point/fly them in the direction of the middle east. Nah, I wouldn't "provoke them"!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anthony| 9.13.12 @ 7:05PM

Once again you fall for the fallacy of begging the question. You presume an insignificant movie of no import has caused all this violence in Cairo. You presume this film maker, doing nothing other than lawfully exercising his First Amendment right, has by the exercise thereof "deliberately" engaged in provocation. You accept the premise no matter how absurd its implications.
Tell me something Jack, if you tell me that any criticism of Obozo will cause you to commit an act of violence, am I not to do so simply because of your absurd and irrational recaction thereto? Am I to remain silent so that Obozo can win, in order for you not to commit an act of violence.
Now, who is the one actually engaged in "violence" to the respect of the individual, you or me?
Hint: It's you.

Drunken Sailor| 9.13.12 @ 11:59AM

With that logic your post offend me. Does that give me the right to assault your house or you?

They should have tweeted a warning that the first person crossing that wall would be shot dead. Once the smoke and heads clear you can post how the person making inflamatorry films may have been wrong but in our country has the right to free speech.

You obviously do not understand their culture. Apologies make you appear weak in their world. Weak men are treated just like the women. To be controlled, abused, and used to their benifit. Might makes right in that world. Yes, it is barbaric but so are they.

Drunken Sailor| 9.13.12 @ 12:01PM

This was directed to Jack the socialist.

Jack London| 9.13.12 @ 12:18PM

It wasn't an apology - it was condemnation of offensive material. As I keep saying, yes of course they have no right to react violently to an insult to their religion. But they do - and that's the real world we have to deal with.

John Navratil| 9.13.12 @ 12:39PM

Jack London,

apology: a written or spoken expression of one's regret, remorse, or sorrow for having insulted, failed, injured, or wronged another.

condemn: to express an unfavorable or adverse judgment on; indicate strong disapproval of; censure.

The embassy statement:

"The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others."

So just how Clintonian must you be to see a condemnation of hurting the religious feelings of Muslims as anything other than an apology for the actions of another? Never mind the characterization of the making of this film to be an abuse of free speech - it's Orwellian.

DTOM| 9.13.12 @ 1:42PM

IT IS NOT A RELIGION!!

IT IS NOT ABOUT SALVATION!!

IT'S ABOUT DOMINATION!

IT IS A GOVERNMENT JUST LIKE SOCIALISM, JUST LIKE COMMUNISM!

Figure it out....

DTOM

Jack London| 9.13.12 @ 2:15PM

By your own definitions John it's perfectly clear that the difference is between personal (state) and third party (mad guys in California) responsibility. On the world stage I'm sure you agree that we act in a diplomatic fashion. It's not anti-free speech or anti-American to censure an American citizen who promotes hatred.

John Navratil| 9.13.12 @ 2:50PM

Jack London,

Couldn't disagree with you more. That's hatred in YOUR opinion, and you are asking our government to act in violation of free speech to enforce what you consider an acceptable form of speech. I'm not willing to subject my speech to your, or anyone else's, filter of acceptability. The best counter to offensive speech is rebuttal speech.

Jack London| 9.13.12 @ 3:57PM

Sorry - you need a lesson in comprehension John. I can't believe you are really this ignorant. Nothing our government has said is about 'enforcing what you consider an acceptable form of speech'. No one is repealing the 1st. But if you imagine our president - even Romney if he's elected - will not and should not censure or disown Americans who incite religious or racial hatred you really are a stupid man.

Jack London| 9.13.12 @ 4:06PM

Sorry - I see you actually said what is happening - 'The best counter to offensive speech is rebuttal speech.'

But you are wrong about 'asking our government to act in violation of free speech'.

I would point out though that there are plenty of situations where free speech is curtailed in the interests of national security. Not inciting violence in Egypt and Libya may be in this category.

George S| 9.13.12 @ 4:33PM

And one of them is shutting up about an intelligence operation carried out by Navy SEALS. But it's okay, it's Obama. He needs that to get reelected. Never mind that Obama's spiking of the football enraged our enemies which resulted in the downing of a helicopter killing two of those SEALS as well as a couple of dozen others.

I say take Jack's advice -- blame the president for their deaths because that kind of free speech was never permissible.

John Navratil| 9.13.12 @ 5:18PM

Jack London,

That way leads to tyranny! If you want to kill me because I offended you with my words, it's not the government's right to suppress my freedoms, it's my right to defend myself.

Jack London| 9.13.12 @ 6:09PM

The government is not suppressing your freedoms - and I'm not so worried if someone wants to kill you. I'm more worried if through your actions someone else gets killed.

John Navratil| 9.13.12 @ 6:32PM

Jack London,

And I'm not too worried if someone wants to kill you either. I'm more worried if your stupidity gets me killed like the ambassador, or your government enslaves me.

Occam's Tool| 9.13.12 @ 7:47PM

The American Government was not responsible for what a Citizen did. the Egyptian Government WAS responsible for not protecting our embassy, as was the Libyan Government regarding our consulate.

Now we have a reason to intervene in Libya, with weapons of mass annihilation. Bengazi should be a city of historical memory , only.

George S| 9.13.12 @ 5:12PM

Jack:

Why do you keep telling us we have to heed the "Real World" but give a pass to Islamic fundamentalists who still live in the 7th century?

Occam's Tool| 9.13.12 @ 7:45PM

Yes, I support the Free Speech rights of Michael Moore when he makes his antisemitic comments, Jack London. He's an asshole, but he has those rights.

Was there someone else you wanted me to comment on?

London, you write "inflammatory material" every day, posting it here, rather than on HuffPo. Would an Am Spec Blogger have the right to kill you? I don't think so. The Tweeter apologized for Speech NOT HIS OWN after our embassy was violently attacked. That is an Act of war, by the way, and if Teddy R was President instead of Body Odor, Cairo would be a pancake today, as it should be.

Yes, I do support Americans saying any damn thing they please at any time, so long as they don't release State Secrets that could get other Americans killed. I bet you support Bradley Manning, London.

Either Muslims are savages who need killing so that we can protect our free speech rights, or they are civilized and should not riot when people say potentially inflammatory things. I am tired of treating grown adults as though they were 5. You are not 5, and neither are they.

Learn some logical consistency, London.

John Navratil| 9.13.12 @ 9:47AM

As George Will once said, wars do not end until one side gets tired and sues for peace. Who will it be to sue? Can we sue for peace with an enemy which will not give it, or do we make them tired of the fight? Either we are enslaved or a lot of Muslims are killed. Does anyone else see another choice?

No, Jack in Wi., I do not accept your nostrum of "leave them alone". 1600 years of history shows they will not be left alone and the Brotherhood predates Israel.

We have been in World War III since the Tehran embassy fiasco. It's about to get hot.

DTOM| 9.13.12 @ 10:09AM

Hey, John N.,

The Muslim Brotherhood predates modern Israel, not historical Israel, by any stretch, right?

DTOM

John Navratil| 9.13.12 @ 10:17AM

DTOM,

I was referring to the establishment of the Jewish state of Israel; the purported cause of all the strife in the region.

John Navratil| 9.13.12 @ 10:26AM

DTOM,

Yes! I mean modern Israel.

Lyneuss Fields | 9.13.12 @ 9:55AM

Hey Ben, if I was to call you and your family fat, money grubbing, stinking Jews, however outrageous and anti Semite that statement was, it would be free speech too. While you may be a great speechwriter, your logic on this issue is clearly in "The Loo".

Mike G| 9.13.12 @ 11:21AM

I doubt Mr. Stein or any of his family would kill you for exercising your right to free speech. But, just as an experiment, say that about Mohammed and let's see what happens.

sam1953| 9.13.12 @ 2:55PM

Prophet Mohammed was not gay, instead he was merely a child molesting pervert who sucks on girls nipples in public, kisses men, dresses up in womens clothes, sleeps with children, spits in children's mouths and then french kissing them, and marries and has sex with 9 year old girls.

Stkman| 9.13.12 @ 9:55AM

Dear Mr. Stein,
I've seen two articles from you in the last tow days. Both of them to the point and full of fact and truth. I hope to see sixty articles from you in the next sixty working days. Don't stop, push and push hard! It is time we as a country do what we do best. Promote freedom and safety for all in the world. It is us, Americans who must stop these so called radicals and stop them now. If it means millions of them must die, then so be it. It is either them or us. We shouldn't wait to see a mushroom cloud in Isreal or the U.S. to wake up to what their plans are. We should instead finally declare jihad on Muslims.

DTOM| 9.13.12 @ 10:12AM

Stkman;

Screw declaring jihad on them - we should just declare war on them the exact same way we declared war on communism.

Islam has far more in common with communism than any true religion.

Repeat after me, "Are you now, or were you ever a member or supporter of the Islamic caliphate?"

It's easy with a little practice.

Don't Tread ON Me...

Stkman| 9.13.12 @ 10:52AM

DTOM,
I used "jihad" as a synonim for "war".

DTOM| 9.13.12 @ 1:47PM

I just don't like assimilating any of their "culture."

Look at how counterproductive the adoption of the Arab saying, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" has been.

WWII would have ended way different if we had not cozied up to Joe Stalin - an enemy of Hitler who never should have been our friend, ever. Millions of Russians, Eastern Europeans, and other ethnic groups were murdered in the shadow of our help...

A rotten stinking enemy is an enemy no matter who he hates...any policy based on identifying enemies' enemies as friends, not on shared values and objectives is doomed to failure. It is probably a huge part of why the Middle East is such a hellhole.

DTOM

Stkman| 9.13.12 @ 2:36PM

You have a Democrat to thank for that, FDR. Both Patton and MacArthur wanted to roll over Russia and they should have been allowed to do it.

Bill8472| 9.13.12 @ 10:56AM

Unfortunately, there is no longer a Christian world in the sense that nations that have differences between themselves would join their fellow religionists in a fight. The Muslim world, on the other hand, seems willing to put state differences aside in order to join in jihad.

If we go to war against Islam (which, frankly, is where the fight should be directed), we will wind up fighting the entire Muslim world.

Plus Russia and its satellites, and Red China.

That's a war that would be unwinnable. That's the dilemma that faces us.

GneralQuarters| 9.13.12 @ 11:15AM

The LSM is really the Ministry of Propaganda. They are also compliant in aiding and abetting the demise of our country plain and simple. I just wish Romney would just call them out on it publicly.

Edward White| 9.13.12 @ 11:46AM

"This is the time for us as a nation and a people to stand united."'

Ronald Reagan, Republican candidate, after president Carter's botched mission to save US hostages.

"I unequivocally support the president of the United States -- no ifs, ands or buts -- and it certainly is not a time to try to go one-up politically. He made a difficult, courageous decision."

George H.W. Bush, a candidate at the same time.

And people tell me the GOP hasn't changed. It's so far to the right that moderates are leaving the party like rats abandoning a sinking ship.

Nick| 9.13.12 @ 12:01PM

So, in your mind, Mr. White, tweeting a statement that apologizes for the American right to free-speech is the same as sending a rescue team into Iran that ended in the deaths of 8 brave men?

Also, it took Jimmuh' Peanut-brain 5 months to act. Because he was as incompetent as the current Apologist-in-Chief.

Oldefarte| 9.13.12 @ 12:51PM

Tsk, tsk, tsk Edwardo, you've been sneeking peeks at the MSM's Dick-N-Jane Reader again haven't you? Those geniuses Maddow, Schultz, Matthews, O'Donnell etc are just the saviors of us all, aren't they. OMG if we don't stop this vast right winged conspiracy occurring in this country, they'll simply be no more affordable homes, aid to dependent children, Muslim outreach, open-border policies, green jobs from Solyndra, OWS proclamations, food stamps for all, etc....will there? G-d forbid! F-*-&-K THAT EXCREMENT!!!!!!!!!!

Occam's Tool| 9.13.12 @ 7:49PM

Yes, Mr. White, because Carter was trying to DO SOMETHING to protect Americans, however incompetent.

Carter didn't become a traitor until he LEFT the White House.

boshwan| 9.13.12 @ 11:59AM

Mr. Stein,

Thank you for a powerful message. I had nearly fallen asleep to the gentle tunes of your "life-as-seen-by-me" monologs. I trust that this will be clarion call to all.

Oldefarte| 9.13.12 @ 12:42PM

No Ben, you just don't seem to get it. You see, we/this country has been captured [possibly conquered] by the trojun-horsed/stealth candidacy upon 11/4/08. Thereafter our captors took over control of the MSM in order to facilitate its propagandized messaging to the lemming-populus. Hitler did it, Castro did it, Lenin/Stalin did it! We have one chance left to overthrow electorially our captors on 11/6/12 if we don't make the usual misktake of voting "stupidly" that is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sam1953| 9.13.12 @ 2:41PM

OBAMA = Muruna

Muruna means using “flexibility” to blend in with the enemy or the surroundings. The justification for this kind of deception is a somewhat bizarre interpretation of Surah 2:106, which says, “If we abrogate a verse or cause it to be forgotten, We will replace it by a better one or similar.” Thus, Muslims may forget some of the commands in the Quran, as long as they are pursuing a better command. Muslims striving to advance Islam, therefore, can deviate from their Islamic laws in order to cause non-Muslims to lower their guard and place their trust in their Muslim counterpart.

At times, Muslims practice muruna in the same way a chameleon changes colors to avoid detection. Muslims will sometimes shave off their beards, wear western clothing, or even drink alcohol to blend in with non-Muslims. Nothing is more valuable these days to the Islamists than a blue-eyed Caucasian Muslim willing to engage in terrorism.

AmericanCynic| 9.13.12 @ 2:42PM

"It has happened. The MSM and the White House have outlawed truth. "

Maybe another TAX CUT will bring truth back, right?

Mr. Stein, Democrats are Americans and President Obama is an American. Maybe you should tell your desperate party that we're not the enemy either.

sam1953| 9.13.12 @ 2:44PM

Muruna 2
Another common way of using muruna is for a Muslim to marry a non-Muslim or to behave like a non-Muslim so their true agenda will not be suspected. The 9/11 hijackers visited strip clubs and bars during their off-times while taking classes in the U.S. to fly airplanes into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the White House. Many Americans believe Hillary Clinton’s aide, Huma Abedin, married Jewish Congressman Anthony Weiner at least in part to burnish her security credentials so she could infiltrate the highest levels of the Administration.

The implications of these highly-honed tactics of deception could be enormous for unassuming Western societies. Psychologist Paul Ekman wrote a book, “Telling Lies”, which demonstrated that people give off recognizable clues when they are practicing deceit. Their consciences cause them, involuntarily, to sweat or raise their voices or make other recognizable gestures. However, Dr. Ekman’s research was exclusively with people from Western cultures. Muslims show no discernible signs when they are being deceitful because there is no feeling of guilt.

Walker| 9.13.12 @ 2:54PM

Mr. Stein, I love your article, and I agree with you. However, one slight detail is wrong . . .it was not an" email cartoon" that they blamed the riots on, it was an actual film which insulted Mohammed. However, from the little bit I saw of the film, I believe it was accurate.

Louis Jenkins| 9.13.12 @ 4:44PM

Ben:

At last you are getting down to brass tacks. Better than reading about how bad you felt, but not bad enough to go to a cafe, a bar, or a speech. You may be an American afterall. Thanks for listening and responding to real events.

Bob From District 9| 9.13.12 @ 4:59PM

You, Mr Stein, are the enemy. You twist everything into an attack on Obama, no matter how sick and depraved you have to be to do it.

There is no Iranian bomb, there is no evidence that Iran is working toward a bomb, and even the Israeli intel and military want the govt to back off. It's the politicians who want the confrontation with Iran, not the warriors.

In the real world, Mr Stein, the enemy is the source and sponsor of Al Qaeda, Saudi Arabia. The real enemy is not "Muslims", but Wahhabi Islam.

Until you can speak the truth without twisting it to bring down Obama and to smear all Muslims you will continue to be the enemy.

Occam's Tool| 9.13.12 @ 7:51PM

I seem to recall Sunni and Shi'ites being pretty nasty, as well. Sorry, Bob. Go back to your aliens.

JD| 9.13.12 @ 5:29PM

A telling statement from Hillary Clinton today:

“Violence, we believe, has no place in religion”

What a canard! In order to preserve the Democrats' illusion of "religious tolerance", they simply redefine all "religions" that would otherwise clash with their ideology!

We see it in their spin of their attacks on Christianity, and now we see it in their spin of their resistance to the acts of Muslims.

Violence DOES have a place in some religions, and the religion of those attacking the embassy is one of them. What Clinton cannot admit is that a religion is the enemy of the administration. When forced to choose between honesty about a religion and political messaging, she of course chooses the latter. At that point, the mission was clear - the enemy had to be "de-religioned"!

We can look forward to more and more of Democrats insisting that they are not anti-Christian in any way. Rather, Christianity is, as everyone surely knows, a religion which strongly supports abortion, homosexuality, and communism. Anyone who says otherwise is trying to cloak his personal evil in the veil of noble religion!

Hillary said so!

Steve Klein, a Christian acitivist invovled with this crazy film and the other producers deliberately wanted to stir up an Islamic hornets' nest.

It described Klein as founder of Courageous Christians United, which conducts protests outside abortion clinics, Mormon temples and mosques.

His "John's right" was devastating rope-a-dope. Romney's agreement should be, "yes, Mr. President, you're not responsible (for the economy, whatever)" and then the knock-out blow: "Elect someone responsible. Elect Mitt Romney."

OBAMA'A FOREIGN POLICY.........STINKS

Inept Jimmy Carter is responsible for the loss of Iran. He did not come to the aid of the Shah.
.
Now Pres. Barack Obama has lost both Egypt and Libya !!
.
Obama did not understand the danger or strength of the Muslim Brotherhood, or come to the aid of Mubarak and helped overthrow Khadafi
.
Khadafi had been a bad guy but at least now he was under control and sold his oil to the U.S. The rebels now have control and the money from Libyan oil sales now goes to the Muslim Brotherhood, the terrorists and al-Quaeda
.
In the 2011 Superbowl Interveiw with O'Reilly, Obama's mistaken attitude with reference to the Muslim Brotherhood is revealed.
.
In addition when there people of Iran was revolting in 2009, Obama did not come to their aid and their revolt was crushed.

You've become dishonest, Ben, perhaps most of all with yourself.

Don't do that!

No, Ben, Mitt is not YOUR enemy.

He's on your side, right?

Uh-huh.

But whose side are YOU on, Ben?

Haves or have-nots? And to what degree?

I think you've glossed over that a bit.

Not terribly honest of you.

How about a rethink and rewrite?

No, it doesn't need to rise to the level of the "Sermon on the Mount" or Maimonides' remonstrations, but how about something approaching those in the "humanistic spirit"?

Elsewise ... if Mitt Romney is not YOUR enemy, YOU are the enemy of most of your fellow humans -- and your own espoused values.

Mr. Stein do YOU think Obama sympathizes with the killers of US diplomats and El Qaeda? That is what Romney said - and no one has asked him to retract it. Neither the Right or Left has called Romney on his statement that President Obama sympathizes with the people who murdered 4 US diplomats. I am offended by what Romney said, not when he said it. I don’t need MSM to tell me to be offended when someone tells me the President supports the killing of US Diplomats. I am dissapointed at the Rights willingness to gloss over the content of the statement and Left's willingness to let them get away with it. Show some moral courage Mr. Stein and ask Romney to retract part of his statement.

I see Mr. Stein still won't answer my question. Its not when Romney said that disgusts Americans its WHAT Romney said.

Are you afraid, Mr. Stein to say Romney was wrong to say the President sympathizes the killers of American Diplomats?
