It is the MRC’s NewsBusters that now has its recording equipment
going 24/7 with an instant capability of exposing the elephant in
the room. It is the MRC scanning every media outlet findable to
expose the bias of “journalists” who obviously feel they are the
professional descendants of those Teddy White long ago described as
“marching like soldiers of the Lord.”
Let’s go to the video tape, shall we? Let’s see some Truth
Telling.
And let’s start with that wonderful clip above.
There is the elephant in full view.
Known by specific names like Lesley Stahl of CBS, Lynn Sherr of
ABC, Katie Couric of NBC and later CBS, Charles Kuralt of CBS, Tom
Brokaw of NBC, Bill Moyers of PBS, Candy Crowley of CNN, Bryant
Gumbel of NBC, Charlie Gibson of ABC, Dan Rather of CBS, and Tom
Brokaw of NBC.
There they are — seen repeatedly from 1988 through 2008. Twenty
years-worth of being soldiers for unrestricted abortion. Twenty
years of insisting that all women must be seen through the prism of
the upper class liberal women who are their friends.
Rape is mentioned in a clip from 2000 — called by Brokaw an
“epidemic” in America. But the onus is on the GOP in terms of
abortion. Note that Brokaw doesn’t dare mention the words “rape”
and “Bill Clinton and Juanita Broaddrick.” Also note how the Equal
Rights Amendment is cited as a cause women favor. This, mind you,
years after the Equal Rights Amendment failed — with the votes of
women like Phyllis Schlafly leading the charge to defeat it. The
Amendment failed outright to gain enough states to ratify it as a
constitutional amendment. That was in June of 1982. And two years
later? Ronald Reagan — running on a platform that never mentioned
the ERA— was re-elected in a 49 state landslide.
But hey… who cares about the political facts.
The game afoot here is to shape a narrative… a moving negative
narrative of conservatives and Republicans that is molded afresh
every night and every day. With an accompanying positive narrative
of all things liberal and of Democrats.
To do in today’s campaign of 2012 just exactly what Teddy White
saw with liberal journalists plying their trade to help Jack
Kennedy in 1960.
So let’s run through some examples NewsBusters has captured of
the elephant in the room at work.
- ·
Here’s Chris Matthews of NBC playing that old favorite of
Democrats — the race card.
- ·
Here’s George Stephanopoulos of ABC and Bob Schieffer of
CBS marching for the liberal narrative, insisting on focusing
on Missouri’s Todd Akin and abortion rather than the economy.
- ·
Here’s Newsweek’s Eleanor Clift lavishing praise on
Obamacare.
- ·
Here’s NBC’s David Gregory asking if Paul Ryan isn’t too
“incendiary” to be vice president.
- · You think the liberal media attacks on Paul Ryan are new?
Here’s NewsBusters compiling a video series of clips attacking
the last four GOP vice-presidential nominees — Dan Quayle, Jack
Kemp, Dick Cheney and Sarah Palin.
- · You think ABC’s George Stephanopoulos and Brian Ross are
alone in linking a violent shooting to conservatives based on zero
evidence? As they did
here?
Here’s a NewsBusters clip of MSNBC going to it in the aftermath
of the Gabrielle Giffords shooting. As with Ross and the Batman
killer, there was — and remains — zero evidence linking any
conservative to either event. , as they did here
One could go on endlessly with all the material NewsBusters and
the Tell the Truth campaign has already provided on issue after
issue and how the liberal media goes out of its way to pretend to
objectivity when, of course, they are not.
Bozell appears regularly on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show to do a
Media Mash segment. As Hannity describes it this segment regularly
features all the ways the liberal media seeks to spin the liberal
world view in the world of television.
Simply put, these Media Mash segments with Hannity and Bozell
are priceless in capturing liberal bias.

Interesting piece but how relevant? In 1960 there were three networks. Local newspapers to be sure but the "media" as he calls it was dominant. For the baby boomers we sat down every night in front of TV's and watched Chronkite or the other two.
Today . . . . Fox, CNN, the net, talk radio, in the Washington area the Examiner a free newspaper with a libertarian slant, The Washington Times, more neocon, and of course the Post, the liberal addition.
But how many "voters" and remember of "eligible" voters, only around 50 percent are actually going to "vote", watch TV news or read neswpapers anyway? There was a story recently that said the undecided right now may be as small as five percent. Mr. Lord would have told us more if if he said where THAT group is going to get their information.
Is the "media" biased? Sure. But it may simply not matter that much any more. If any of you disagree, please comment "respectfully" and without name calling. It's not necessary. I don't do it to you, you shouldn't feel compelled to do it to me.
Von Mises Jr| 8.28.12 @ 8:03AM
Is that you perppy?
nathan| 8.28.12 @ 8:54AM
Sir: After this I'm just going to ignore you. I've noticed that you call me names, you just never, not once address any thing I say. I have no idea why that is. But responding to name calling is pointless. Churchill said with reasonable I will reason. Those that I find on here I will continue to do so. Again the purpose of vigourous informed discourse is to enlighten, inform, and let's face it, entertain. Name calling, cursing, bigotry doesn't accomplish any of those functions and if I keep responding to posts like this, then I am truly "feeding the trolls". Enough. Good day to you sir.
Von Mises Jr| 8.28.12 @ 9:55AM
Alright, nathan. Perhaps you are not a troll. If I misjudged, then my apologies.
This is a dangerous concession though. The first and only time I conditionally apologized to Margie for calling her a troll, Tim accepted. Go figure. I think that troll was sexually conflicted.
We know Perp is Purpleguy and Jefferson at a minimum. So one cannot help but be suspicious. I will desist and desist with you, but screw Perp.

Nathan;
If one were to assess its true relevance, the broadcast network media serves as a multiplier for the Obama message, and assists in labeling and portraying the plurality of the conservative leaning people as "extreme" or "outside the mainstream", which I believe reduces the numbers slightly at the squishy margins.
When planning for a military offensive, one looks for ways to diminish those assets of an adversary that serve as combat multipliers. The enemy's indirect fire assets, anti-air defenses, communications capability are all targeted in order to reduce their effectiveness, and limit friendly casualties. To the extent that media bias is exposed and reduced in its ability to affect those at the margins, Mr. Bozell's campaign as detailed by Mr. Lord is highly relevant, if this race is to be a close one.
CJW| 8.28.12 @ 3:12PM
Albert
Bozell does a great job. His father wrote "Conscience of a Conservative" for Barry Goldwater, his mother is Bill Buckley's sister, and I believe he has ten siblings, one a priest.
It is important to show how biased the MSM is. It is so biased it creeps into all the reporting. This morning on the radio the news guy said the Republicans have to show they are not the mean, anti woman, blah blah party. He just assumes Republicans are that because the Dems say so. He never says the Dems have to show they are not the big spending, big taxing, anti religion, anti gun, wimp party that has lost the Afghan war.

Nathan: You're an antisemitic cocksuck. I've just started.
The media bias matters greatly, as it is absorbed subliminally. You don't work with the dregs of society that can vote. I do, everyday. Your concepts regarding media bias are as stupid as your views regarding Jews and Israel, and just as deluded.
By the way, you're an antisemitic cocksuck, just to make that clear. And Rachel Corey's Family, St. Pancake herself, got NADA in the court judgment. Har, har, har!

Jack of Spades| 8.28.12 @ 7:45AM
The MSM isn't biased. Bias is a subconscious filtering of the truth through one's prejudices. This is, and has been, undisguised (but denied) advocacy.

When you consider that all of the NBC Affiliates receive Scripts every Morning from George Soros' Media Matters, and that The New York Times sends their Stories directly to the White House, for APPROVEL, before they go to Print, and tha The WAPO employs a Sub Group of "Journalists" who belong to a Shadow Underground Group that goes by the Secret Name - "journOlists" - with the O capitalized in Honour of their Lord and Saviour. Right you are. Calling it bias takes the edge off. Advocacy is demoted to bias. Illegal alien is demoted to undocumented immigrant. When describing a human being's life being ended it is demoted to a woman having control over her body. Even the biology is distorted to excuse the crime. The woman's body supports the life of another being. The woman chooses to withdraw that support thus killing another being. The only moral justification for such a act is the ancient "it or me" argument. Threat to the physical existence of the soon to be mother has been demoted to threat to existence of the life choices that lead to the unwanted pregnancy in the first place.
Joellen| 8.28.12 @ 8:02AM
Well for many of us this is not news. I can remember when I was fifteen in the 70's, reading the NY Daily News and knowing - wow where's the other side of the story? I have NOT watched abc/cbs/nbc since the 70's. For years, I literally ignored the news because I knew it was bias. Then came along Rush (our first hero in the news); Fox; more conservative talk radio and blessedly the internet. Now, I am a news junkie. I can listen to those clips that played, knowing I am not crazy and that there is a bias out there, but now I am proven right. As a side note, GOD Bless Breitbart, keep him in your during this convention and keep praying for this country.
C. Vernon Crisler | 8.28.12 @ 8:04AM
Before there was Brent, there was Reed Irvine, who died in 2004. He headed up Accuracy in Media, which exposed media bias. The Wikipedia entry for Irvine is a classic case of leftwing biographical bias, one that Irvine would have delighted in exposing.
Von Mises Jr| 8.28.12 @ 8:13AM
Rush has a minimum of 25M listeners that has been touted to be as much as 50M. That is about 10-15% of the population and he is on during the day when many people who would listen are working to support those on the dole.
Rush has a unique way of getting to the essence, making the point and making one laugh. He questions the wisdom that the Republicans are the "stupid" Party. He says it is Obama and the (P) Regressives that are trolling for the stupid people's votes.
Hannity's "Man on the Street" or some of the Breitbart/O'Keefe parodies are enlightening on how ignorant and naive the average Democrat voter often is. Often the only word that comes to mind is "STUPID."
Mimi | 8.28.12 @ 8:31AM
I don't know about how anyone else feels but I am disgusted with the blatent bias of the "TODAY" media. When will they be held to account for their unfair bias?
Look around right now at the boarded up windows, the poverty of people who NEVER thought they would ever be there ....The suffering of children...changes in life plans....The MEDIA by showing a blind eye has contributed to this TOO!
There are bones thrown lately maybe a few have a conscience....God , they have HURT this country.
You'd think they would wake up and take a look at the TRUTH for once....We The American People...need to hear an apology....WHERE IS THE MIA CULPA???
fmm| 8.28.12 @ 9:41AM
Progressives (media included) do not care about any of those demographics, they only care about power to themselves. There will never be a mia culpa because they are not blind to what they have wrought, but believe in what they are doing.
MK48| 8.28.12 @ 10:57AM
Mimi......you say mia culpa ? I suggest you read Ezekiel 7: 1-4 the last word I think drives the point home....LORD.
pogybait| 8.28.12 @ 8:51AM
My guess is that it's time for another social political issue that needs a judicial fiat to maintain their point of view. Remember these wonderful folks from the media aren't ideological they are just motivated by compassion.
nathan| 8.28.12 @ 9:06AM
Look take one example, gun control. Sarah Brady not once not one single lousy time has ever been asked to explain the difference in outcomes between Applachian State Law School where two armed students kept the death toll to four and Virginia Tech, two hours away where the lack of armed students resulted in eight times as many deaths and the police played no role in ending the incident. She's never asked to explain why northern Virginia with less gun control has a lower crime/murder rate than DC (before Heller) with all that gun control. We knw that media always gives her a pass on that.
Are we gun owners thoroughly annoyed? Of course. But again we deal with the world as we find it and encourage other forms of information.
But again to what extent does this bias we see actually influence elections any more? Did all of you know exactly what Obama was and what his policies were going to be four years ago? I sure did. Did you all know that Bush was a liberal before you voted for him? Of course you did. (Compassionate conservatism is liberalism folks.) Are you all aware today that Romney intends to violate his oath of office before he takes it? Sure you do. (His support for the NDAA language tells you that.)
And if we know these things going into the voting booths, anyone who WANTS to know has the same access we do.
fmm| 8.28.12 @ 9:45AM
Your comments indicate that you care about searching out the truth but remember, the normal guy in the street is not interested enough to put out any effort, relying on the progressives in the media to "inform" him. Much damage is thereby done.
Crassus| 8.28.12 @ 4:15PM

The media bias will exist as long as the media turns a profit spewing forth their liberal drivel(PBS excepted). No company can remain in business long without customers....stop watching and reading their crap and eventually they might either get it or go away. Also, having Fox news available only on cable or sat. (as an upgrade) is not helping. I'm not in favor of the press being my lapdog or the lapdog of the left...a little honest reporting would be appreciated though. Since only 20% of the public self describes as liberal, cut PBS's budget by 80% so the rest of us are not paying to watch lefty garbage.
Who Knows?| 8.28.12 @ 11:48AM
When will enough people realize the MSM is our true government?
The USSR had Pravda as the brainwashing arm of the elite politburo committee of masters. The USA is bassackwards, in that the MSM, as the brainwashing fist or boot, has a revolving door “elite” of “elected” officials, who serve at their sufferance.
The majority of Americans are NOT liberal, but conservative. Their interests are very much outside government---they live their OWN lives, attending to family, business and religion, only desiring that government be honest and leave them alone.
The wildly out of whack MSM-American people situation screams for readjustments---in many dimensions. Why doesn’t some go getter COPY the Comedy Channel, for example, and consciously aim to be as right winged in its humor as the CC is left winged, say?
Produce a show called the “Mriss Cathhews Show”, with a clown mirroring the blathering idiot, you know who, always hyped out on caffeine, always tinkling down his RIGHT leg? There is surely an eager audience dying for some of this kind of balance.
There are trillions of dollars people are holding, afraid of the Obama future. Well, deploy some of it, in a surefire network, that’s in-your-face 24/7, with no apologies, making fun of the plethora of useful idiots now ruling America?
Laughter is the best medicine.
Ridicule our rulers---to THEIR demise!

If the majority of Americans are conservative, then how did we manage to elect Obama in 2008 by a comfortable margin? The choice between McCain-Palin and Obama-Biden was pretty stark. So what was our "conservative" electorate thinking?
Occam's Tool| 8.28.12 @ 7:43PM
Seek: it was a question between a Charismatic candidate who was disguised as a Centrist versus a mook.
Now, the Charisma has worn off. And Romney may not be the mook that McCain was. But he does need to start going for the nads.
Who Knows?| 8.29.12 @ 10:00AM
I should have said the majority of Americans are center right.
However, around 40% are conservative verses 20% liberal.

Controse| 8.28.12 @ 1:01PM
Jody Miller of NewsBusted is our best timely shot at decaying the advocacy media. Her short little ridicule sessions should be expanded into the internet's first regularly scheduled half hour comedy show. There is no defense for witty, humorous ridicule. We need not more of the same but a much more robust production of the same material.
Jim3031| 8.28.12 @ 1:19PM
The MRC and Newsbusters is GREAT. (And it's not a bad thing that Jodie Miller is also HOT!) But unfortunately, many people still get their "news" from the local newspapers, which were I live are very liberal in their perspectives, or short radio and TV "news"casts from the usual suspects. And coupled with the terrible or non-existent economics educations most of them receive from their time in the government schools, so many of them actually believe that profits are bad for ordinary people and that government run medicine will actually save money and provide better care! We still have a long way to go, but at least the MRC is in place and continuing to pry it's way in, even if the odds against it are still great.
Fiscal| 8.28.12 @ 2:21PM
The real truth is that there is no truth when it comes to the media -- and that goes for both the right and the left. Each takes an obscure element and magnifies it so much it becomes a lie whether it is Obama's people touting Romney as a "killer" or Romney saying he will not cut anything in Medicare and then balance the budget.
The reason this occurs is that we don't have an educated electorate getting information from both sides and then doing the research. Now, more than ever, people only listen to those who share their viewpoint and the media does not have the money anymore to do investigative reporting. You can't learn the truth from either Fox News or MSNBC or CNN.
The other thing is that Murdoch's empire (WSJ/Fox) IS THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA if you actually look at ratings. This argument about so much liberal bias is again, overrated. Yes, there is some, but it is more balanced than most of you are willing to admit.
And by the way, Rush only has a daily reach of about 2-3%. You get to the 15% number by double and triple counting listeners. Again, another misstatement by those who don't do their homework.
Ian Cognito | 8.28.12 @ 2:40PM
Jeff, thanks for the comments. Thanks too for the reader comments. They make me think one day and scratch my head on others. Abortion is the elephant in this column. The supporting letters disguise and distort the current Dem derision. I have questions for Dems; a brief history too. Abortion came in 1973 - one decade after civil rights. Welfare costs were escalating, racial academic parity didn't materialize, Affirmative Action cost projections were high, and people were breeding while on welfare to increase income. The Dems needed to control costs. Abortion was the answer - framed as a woman's Right to Choose. The 2012 black population is 50% lower due to abortion. Dem policies assure blacks do not escape poverty - so their votes are guaranteed. Black on black murders are rampant - and Dem don't target that problem. Chicago saw 19 dead a few days ago. Are these deaths late term abortions? School choice is a choice Dems reject. Dems favor some choices/rights over others. Dems obsess over policies to control the objects of their compassion - and their votes. That won't change. If the PC word rules were ignored, the Murder Party couldn't defend their actions. That's the other elephant. Opponents must be cowed, contained, and slimed for media prejudice to thrive. PC word rules enable it. Jeff and his peers must ignore those rules if we are to change this pachydermian penumbra. Can't win a war when half your arsenal is off limits.
Mimi | 8.28.12 @ 3:57PM
As long as the Dems , hard left, Abort does that mean that there will be 50% less of them. I would think that 50% less less Black citizens would be infanticide, a holocaust of monumental shame, an American tragedy and in need of urgent attention by all fair and decent Americans!
The establisment GOP are sick of the Pro-life Conservatives....Too DARN bad !....They couldn't have been satisfide with the Romney win and support they had,...a joining together to defeat Obama....no they had to cut the 70% of the GOP conservatives at the knees to diminish any future POWER....I don't know what they would have without the Heart and soul of the PARTY!

I wish it didn't matter anymore. Unfortunately, there are still way too many voters who give way too much credence to MSM spin.
What I've seen since 1988 is the media move further & further toward unabashed propaganda purveyors for the Democrats with each cycle.
Their performance this year has been the worst in my memory. Knowing their influence isn't quite what it once was AND that their guy is in serious trouble, the majority of the "news" types have become more & more brazen in their cheerleading for Obama.
