Obama’s Iftar Dinner

He touts Islam as a religion that Sandra Fluke could like.

Obama’s politically correct spin on Islam grows more and more buffoonish. At the very moment he accuses Christians of waging a “war on women,” he casts Islam as a benevolent religion to which the Sandra Flukes could take refuge.

He used his remarks at this year’s Iftar dinner to praise Islam as a female-friendly religion. “Indeed, you know that the Koran teaches, ‘Be it man or woman, each of you is equal to the other,’” he said. For Obama, it is the Bible, not the Koran, that reeks of dangerous patriarchy. Obama has mocked the Book of Leviticus, Deuteronomy, and St. Paul’s letters, but he would never dare question a passage in the Koran, which he regards as a holy and blameless book in no need of politically correct revision.

If the oppression at Georgetown gets to be too much for Sandra Fluke, she could always try her luck in the Islamic world, where the rights of women are spreading like wildfire, according to Obama. Thanks in part to Islam, he said, this year’s Olympics can be dubbed “The Year of the Woman,” as Muslim countries generously allowed a few women to play: “Also, for the very first time in Olympic history, every team now includes a woman athlete. And one of the reasons is that every team from a Muslim-majority country now includes women as well.”

Obama was particularly pleased that women got the chance to “face down tanks” in the Arab Spring. Nothing proves sameness between the sexes better than the equal opportunity to die.

Obama seemed unable to get his favorite constituency off his mind, excitedly noting that one of the first “Muslim chaplains at an American college” is a woman, Sanaa Nadim. How did the imams in attendance at the dinner feel about that remark? No doubt they murmur to themselves that Obama is an idiot, albeit a very useful one.

Obama also peppered his speech with his customary deceptions about America’s Islamic-friendly origins. “As I’ve noted before, Thomas Jefferson once held a sunset dinner here with an envoy from Tunisia — perhaps the first Iftar at the White House, more than 200 years ago,” he said. Notice Obama’s weasely use of the word “perhaps.” Why the hedging? Because he knows perfectly well that it wasn’t an Iftar dinner but a war negotiation. Seeking to end the Barbary War with Islamic pirates, Jefferson invited Tunisian envoy Sidi Soliman Mellimelli to Washington. He invited him to a dinner at the White House not to honor Islam but to end a war. The dinner happened to coincide with Ramadan. Jefferson pushed the time back for the dinner to “sunset” in order to ensure that Mellimelli would attend. It wasn’t by any stretch of the imagination an Iftar dinner.

But Obama wasn’t done misleading his audience. “And some of you, as you arrived tonight, may have seen our special display, courtesy of our friends at the Library of Congress — the Koran that belonged to Thomas Jefferson. And that’s a reminder, along with the generations of patriotic Muslims in America, that Islam— like so many faiths — is part of our national story.” He failed to mention that Jefferson purchased the Koran in order to understand the attitudes and tactics of the Barbary pirates. For Jefferson, it wasn’t a holy book but a manual for war. No mention of that on the placard near the “special display.” (If Obama really wanted to wow his Muslim friends, he should have shown them “Jefferson’s Bible” over at the Smithsonian’s History Museum, which is a tribute to TJ’s secularist tastes in that he deleted from his copy of the Bible all references to the supernatural. Jefferson’s secularized Bible foreshadowed the left-wing Christianity that Obama now espouses.)

Obama concluded his remarks with an absurdly hypocritical paean to “freedom of religion.” As he purges Christianity from public life, forbidding any public application of it that conflicts with his liberal dictates, Obama has the gall to gush about religious freedom as a “universal right.” In Obama’s envisioned America, Islam belongs to the “national story” while Judeo-Christianity marks a chapter best forgotten.

Obama is a Muslim, and nobody should be surprised that he's trying to hedge his bets for the day when he will be punted back into civilian society and has to watch for a fatwa coming to a street near him. If a man's father was a Muslim, the man himself is a Muslim; if he seriously claims to be a Christian now, the fatwa is a very real apparition he has to start to address. As for Americans, he just hopes we're not paying attention.

And, just to make it clearer.......there was only ONE CHAIR. So, she had been Standing there, even before we got there. In Ramadan a dinner at sunset is by definition Iftar.
It seems no article on this website is now regarded as being adequate unless it contains a good amount of Muslim hatred. All this in support of ethnic cleansing in the ME. The president was entirely correct in his presidential duty to invite Muslims for Iftar in the Holy month of Ramadan. It sends a message to the world of the inclusive nature of USA. Unfortunately it can not drown out the many wars by America against the Muslim world. These wars have weakened America with the loss of blood & treasure. And have brought no gain. Its time America brought home the troops. And no more wars. The right continues to put itself in a very tight extremist corner: this well is deep. Anyway, Ramadan is nearing the end. At a minimum, Obama went to Muslim school as a child and has family members and friends who are Muslims.

Has re-tasked NASA with Muslim outreach.

Celebrates every Muslim holiday imaginable with White House parties.

Leaves God out of the pledge of allegiance.

Continues to render financial aide to "Palestinian" terrorist groups and military support to the Muslim brotherhood which is taking over the entire middle east.

Continues to ignore the fact that his Secretary of State employees a member of the Muslim Brotherhood as her closest aid.

Has spoken out despairingly of Christians as "bitter clingers" and continues to engage in attacks of Christian doctrine despite violating the constitution which he swore a oath to uphold.

What is most disturbing is the fact that the U S president chooses to celebrate a religious observance from a non-western tradition while ostracizing those who choose to celebrate the religious tradition which is an essential part of western civilization. It is the institutional rejection of the tradition he is under oath to protect which should cause concern. The president errs in these attempts at "outreach" for they yield no understanding and alienate him from his own countrymen.

That being said, nothing in an Iftar dinner during Ramadan should be considered a direct threat. Much evil is done in the name of Islam which Moslems everywhere should abhor, just as evil has been done in the name of Christ as well. It is evil against which good men fight, not necessarily the name in which that evil is promulgated.

Believers may find much in common in the realm of policy issues such as abortion, the rule of law, homosexual behavior, entrepreneurship and the like. Such things can unite our people. While Islam and Christianity have a very long history of antipathy it remains sad nonetheless. No the two are not coequal. Islam makes a claim to "govern" all aspects of society, the religious, secular and so on while Christianity represents a moral foundation on which to build. Obama is wrong and misguided and his policies should be viewed accordingly.

Islam is about the merger of state and religion under a dictatorship. Religious freedom is impossible. A "bill of rights" is impossible. Nothing could be more hostile to our Constitution, and freedom everywhere. Congress should identify Islam as a subversive political organization.

As Adab - Islam not only has a long history of antipathy with Christianity. It has a long history of antipathy with all other beliefs and religions. Its entire history is one long story of murder and mayhem whenever it cam into contact with any other belief system. It has not only never been able to live in peace with other belief systems, but has not been able to live in peace with the various minor differences within Islam. The Sunni/Shiite divide is a good example. They have been killing one another with reckless abandon for centuries, over the question of who was the legitimate successor to Mohammed.

Nothing you state is incorrect. This is a good opportunity for us all to understand better just what Islam is.

It is not a monolithic structure. As you note the is a historical and continuing conflict, a divide, within Islam regarding how to build Islamic society. As I mentioned above, Islam requires the complete subm,ission (the meaning of the word) of all aspects of society to its tenents.

The divide dates back to the conflict between the Umayyad and Abassid dynasties and the divergent views on the structure of society. A student can learn much about those demands by reading Ibn Khaldun for it reveals the constraints which Islam imposes even on those pursuing honest intellectual endeavor. Khaldun BTW was a "supply sider" who noted that "a wise ruler imposes few taxes so as to increase the wealth of his realm".

Islam today is rife with factions not only the Sunni - Shia divide you note but many from the Brotherhood on. Better knowledge helps us all, but the presidents' actions here lead only to more divisivness.

Obama has washed the sins of Islam onto the American people. How else can you explain the rationale of the TSA. Even right after 9-11 we were never herded like sheep through airports but -- coincidentally -- right after the November 2010 election came the naked scanners and sexually assaulting pat downs. Also, the DOJ is looking to sue the NYPD because their anti-terrorism measures are... too effective. Without molesting their citizens.

Spreading the blame is easy when you are wired to spread the wealth.

Are Muslims permitted to lie?
There are two forms of lying to non-believers that are permitted under certain circumstances, taqiyya and kitman. These circumstances are typically those that advance the cause Islam - in some cases by gaining the trust of non-believers in order to draw out their vulnerability and defeat them.
The Qur'an:
Qur'an (16:106) - Establishes that there are circumstances that can "compel" a Muslim to tell a lie.
Qur'an (3:28) - This verse tells Muslims not to take those outside the faith as friends, unless it is to "guard themselves."
Qur'an (9:3) - "...Allah and His Messenger are free from liability to the idolaters..." The dissolution of oaths with the pagans who remained at Mecca following its capture. They did nothing wrong, but were evicted anyway.
Qur'an (3:54) - "And they (the disbelievers) schemed, and Allah schemed (against them): and Allah is the best of schemers." The Arabic word used here for scheme (or plot) is makara, which literally means deceit. If Allah is deceitful toward unbelievers, then there is little basis for denying that Muslims are allowed to do the same. (See also 8:30 and 10:21)

Taken collectively these verses are interpreted to mean that there are circumstances when a Muslim may be "compelled" to deceive others for a greater purpose.

muruna - allows Muslims to sow division and confusion in the Western world - which literally means “stealth” or “flexibility.” It is far worse than taqiyya, since it sanctions all prohibitions that block Muslim interests, even blasphemous ones. Muruna is literally accomplished by permitting behavior normally so eschewed by Sharia that Westerners logically assume a more moderate version of Islam when such prohibitions are suddenly permitted. Westerners’ eyes are, in fact, deceiving them. Muruna is about going to great lengths to gain interests through a much deeper level of deception while simultaneously lowering the guard and gaining the support of the infidels.
