What Do the Jews Have to Do?
Arab/Muslim hatred of the Jews is the Jews’ fault?
Should we really be surprised the International Olympic Committee didn’t see fit to hold a moment of silence for the 11 Israeli athletes and coaches murdered by Palestinian terrorists during the 1972 Munich Olympics at the now completed London games?
I will remember the 2012 Olympics for two things. I will remember them for Michael Phelps becoming the most decorated athlete in Olympic history. I will also remember them because the Lebanese judo team refused to train in the same room with their Israeli counterparts. Olympic officials, who would not be moved to hold a moment’s silence for athletes, moved heaven and earth to aid and abet anti-Semitism by placing a screen in the room so the Lebanese team would not be blinded by gazing at the Jews. As Mark Steyn noted it was a case of “taking the Jew out of judo.” All good humor aside, the truth of the matter is that most of the Arab/Muslim bloc is delighted that Jews were slaughtered forty years ago and would have been delighted had it happened again in London.
This delight extends to Muslim countries that have been at peace with Israel. Although it is feared that Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood will sooner or later tear up the Camp David Accords, the fact is that the peace has long been a cold one and most Egyptians despise the Jewish state and those that comprise its majority. Last month, an Egyptian TV program played a practical joke on several of that country’s prominent actors. Each of the actors was in a TV studio doing an interview. When the actors were told the TV station was Israeli they reacted violently by throwing things about the studio and assaulting the actors they now thought were Jewish until they were told otherwise. The international community demands Israel make peace with the Arab/Muslim world. Yet after 35 years of peace, Egyptians still can’t be in the same room with a Jew without being moved to violence. The Camp David Accords aren’t worth the paper on which they are written. The same could be said for the Oslo Accords.
What do Jews have to do to change the hearts and minds of the Arab/Muslim world? Save their lives? Well, when I heard about the massive earthquake in Iran last week, the first thing that came to mind was when the Iranian regime refused Israeli aid following an earthquake in Bam in December 2003 which claimed more than 25,000 lives. Apparently, Iran’s regime would rather its own people die than have their lives be saved by Jews. Of course, this occurred before the current Ahmadinejad regime came to power. So one needn’t imagine what Iran’s response would be if Israel were to offer help now.
Of course, not every one rejects help from Israel. It was recently revealed that the brother-in-law of Gaza Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh received life saving heart surgery at an Israeli hospital a few months ago. Has Haniyeh has shown any gratitude? Not on your life. Haniyeh and Hamas continue to call for Israel’s destruction and blame it for the murder of 16 Egyptian soldiers in the Sinai earlier this month even though all evidence suggests it is Hamas that is responsible.
Yet one need not be the brother-in-law of the Palestinian Prime Minister in Gaza to be treated in an Israeli hospital. In a spectator.org article last week, P. David Hornik noted that over 100,000 Palestinians from both Gaza and the West Bank were treated in Israeli hospitals in 2010. One woman from Gaza who was treated for burn injuries at an Israeli hospital planned to show her appreciation by setting off a suicide bomb in the hospital in the hope of killing as many Jews as possible. Hornik commented, “Though admittedly an extreme case, it would be nice to think this large number of Palestinians’ benefiting from Israeli medicine would have a conciliatory effect.” Alas, even the high quality of Israeli medicine isn’t strong enough to heal Arab/Muslim hatred of Jews.
The fact of the matter is that there is nothing Jews, be they in Israel or anywhere else, can do about Arab/Muslim hatred and all the peace agreements in the world can’t change that fact. The only people who can stop Arab/Muslim hatred of Jews are the Arab/Muslim world. It is up to the Arab/Muslim world to be willing to be in the same room with Jews without erecting a screen. It is up to the Arab/Muslim world to be willing to be in the same room with Jews without resorting to violence. It is up to the Arab/Muslim world to be willing to accept help from Jews when they offer it. It is up to the Arab/Muslim world to show gratitude when they receive such help. In order for this to happen there would need to be quite a few brave Arabs/Muslims willing to speak up. When I say brave I truly mean it. Because if a Sunni Muslim in Egypt, a Shiite Muslim in Iran, or a Christian in Lebanon says that the time has come to stop Jew hatred, then those people have signed their death warrant. Yet if there is to be a true peace between Jews and Arabs/Muslims this is exactly what must happen. But I have no illusions this will come to pass in my lifetime. So while the Arab/Muslim world continues to call for Israel’s destruction, the world will continue to say it is up to the Jews.

It's good tht the Jews continue to behave like reasonable, rational people while keeping their guard up and standing firm. Kind of like our parents did when we were teenagers screaming "I HATE YOU!" at them -- they knew what we meant was that we were frustrtated we couldn't have it our way, and that later on we'd figure out why not. I suspect the Jews in Israel are taking the long view that some day the Arab Muslims will grow up and become human beings, if they give them a fighting chance.
As for the Olympic Committee, they are another puppet of the UN and nobody should expect them to grow up. The UN and the Olympic Committee are the Sharks and the Jets, filled with bluster, bravado and braggadacio to cover up their failure in every other way. They should be treated like recalcitrant teens and basically brush them aside.

Israel could of had peace for decades. That means it has to give up the idea of stealing all of Palistine. The book of Leviticus tells Jews. " To love their neighbors as themselves. " It also tells them. " To treat the aliens among you as you do yourselves. " In the book of Exodus it tells Jews: " To Treat the aliens and strangers well for you were once aliens and strangers in the land of Egypt." Abraham, Issac, and Jacob all got along very well with their neighbors. It is time to return to the Torah and give up this racist regime always looking to expand at the expense of your neighbors. Right. Immediately after Israel was founded it was attacked by several Muslim countries. Also, about 880,000 Jews were driven from Muslim countries in Nazi fashion. The homes of Jews were destroyed, many were tortured or executed, their property was taken from them, and they were forced to leave. A good book to read is In Ismael's House by Martin Gilbert. Today very few Jews live in Muslim countries because they fear for their lives. But over one million Muslims live in Israel, where they enjoy peace and security. Islam is the problem.

Furthermore, I find it ludicrous that after centuries of being persecuted and murdered in most of the Diaspora countries, the world still believes that Jews should apologize for their existence. As for the Palestinians, let’s recap their treatment at the hands of their Arab brothers: three hundred thousand were expelled from Kuwait during the First Gulf War, due to their alliance with Saddam Hussein’s regime; thousands were killed and many were expelled from Jordan (the true Palestinian country) due to their attempt to assassinate King Hussein. The list is long; suffices to say that their brethren with their multitudes of dollars from oil revenues do not contribute a penny towards the improvement of the Palestinians. Rather, the Europeans and Americans are pouring billions into the pockets of the Hamas or PA; most of it is spent on getting weapons to kill civilians in Israel.

It is amusing to read the revisionism on here on just about every subject where pesky facts fly in the face of AmSpec conventional wisdom.
Last time I checked, Israel was a concoction created by a UN committee, opposed by Britain and the Arab countries attempting to bargain for consideration, with Zionist terrorists - including Begin, using the very tactics the Arabs are using today, to create the mess we have there.
Countless times since Ben-Gurion went ahead with his agenda, Israel has petitioned the very UN that they defied to begin with. The US became their patsy and has gone along with this folly for their entire history - with zero net benefit to the US and trillions spent on bogus adventures since then.
The reality is that neither party really wants peace, because it forces them to recognize their mysticism about a dusty rock plateau has stained their psyches for millenia. The "Jerusalem as vatican" approach was the last hope for a reasonable accommodation.
The Israelis are big boys now. Let them debate whether their imaginary friend is more powerful than the Mohamedan's.
AmSpec should be taking a Christian view - not a Seven Mountaineer or Third Templar view - that Israel is simply the birth and death place of Jesus, and leave it at that.

The majority of Arabs who were two decades later to be re-named as "Palestinians" were also newcomers to the area, having moved there to take advantage of the economic boom created by the Zionist pioneers. The "Readers Digest" version is that I believe Obama is directly implementing policies designed by Satan. He is in fact setting the stage for the Muslims to gain sufficient power that they will become a real threat to world peace and that we are further headed to a great war, sooner than later.

I am watchful and mindful of prophecy concerning the end times.
I look to Israel as a canary in the coal mine and believe that because of Obama's idiotic actions, the pieces are lining up against Israel which could bring about the end times during my life and I am 53.
With that said, the end has been predicted many times, though I try and live my life as if Jesus may step through the door this very moment.
I believe in God and I believe that his son Jesus died for my sin's.
I take comfort in the fact that it is up to each man to work out his own salvation with fear and trembling.

Forgive me if I offended you or attacked your Christianity. As an Orthodox Christian it is not my place to judge only it is God's place and I don't even pretend to be righteous because I am a sinner just like you.
Now on to the notion that we are living in the End Times. I don't know only God knows. We do live in tumultuous times but there have always been wars and rumours of wars. You must understand that to the traditional Catholic and Orthodox Christian the new Israel is thought to be the Church itself and not the secular Jewish state of Israel. Traditional Catholics and Orthodox Christians reject the idea that God has two salvation plans (one for the Christian and another for the Jew) all though true Orthodox believe we cannot even judge an individual of a different religion or no religion at all because that role is God and God's alone. I fail to love my enemies as well. The Wahhabists who the U.S. government is aiding right now in their fight against the Assad regime were the same people who hijacked the planes on 9/11 and flew them into the towers and they are also the same people who took the children of Beslan, Russia hostage in the school seige and butchered them. I hate Wahhabists and I know God will judge me for that hatred, but my hatred comes from my knowledge that my family in the old country would become prime targets if the Wahhabists ever took power there and they could.

While I won't shed too many tears for the plight of the Chechens, the Bosnian muslims or the Kosovo Albanians, I wonder whether you would side with this gentleman (am I becoming non judgmental?) while denying Jews to behave in a much nicer way in the defense of their motherland?

Mr. Frog, I do not just defend the rights of Muslims I defend the rights of Arab Christians as well. However I do not defend the rights of Wahhabists (Sunni Islamists) because they have no tolerance for Christians, Jews, Shiite Muslim or even Sunnis of the Sufi school of Islam. I do not deny that Jews in the Levant have the right to self defense. I'm not even arguing that Israeli Jews don't have a right to defend themselves and their families. However I am pointing out that the way that Israel came into existence did nothing but fan the flames of anti-Jewish sentiment amongst Arabs both Christian and Jewish alike. Yes according to the Old Testament the ancient lands of Israel and Judea belong to the Jews, but for ions now these lands have been inhabited by Arab speaking Christians and Muslims who I would argue have just a legitimate claim to the land as the Jews. I am a realist. I understand that the Jews are there to stay, but the Israeli Jews must understand that there will always be conflict until a two state solution is agreed upon.

No, unfortunately. Despite having jumped enough times to be qualified, I don't have the coveted insignia and the "plaque à vélo" (airborne plaque which bears your number after jump school)
As I wrote previously, I'm just a humble reserve 1st lieutenant and I instruct a few dozen Gendarmes a year in the fine arts of long range rifle marksmanship, reconnaissance, camouflage and tactics. In other words, I try to make sure the good guy accomplishes his mission and doesn't get killed. I learnt a lot about Algeria's War listening as a kid to the ones that had been there and back. The common feature was bitterness and sadness, most of those men had been treated like crap when they came back and they had witnessed terrible things being done to soldiers and innocent civilians by the FLN terrorists. And when they came back, they were considered as the actual murderers. You have to consider at that time we didn't have a professional army like yours, except for Airborne troops, Foreign Legion and Special Forces units, most of the guys who fought there had been drafted in military service, they were your next door neighbours, not a bunch of brainwashed SS as the media would put it.

Monsieur CJW, I have not read it yet but if I consider the reviews I read, there would be a lot to say about this book including the FLN quote of 1 million casualties among the civilians (280,000 dead is frightening enough already) ... And this wouldn't fit inside the 1500 letter format allowed by Amspec.
Suffice to say, we had a difficult war on our hands right after another terrible war that you tried to fix with more men and more hardware, and we didn't ask for it. That had been brought upon us by decades of socialism, which is a bad start everywhere you go, and the unavoidable (at least in France) bad politicians. We fought that war with the lessons learnt in Vietnam, we won the hearts of the population, destroyed the enemy, followed him during covert operations in his sanctuaries in Morocco and Tunisia and made sure he would behave. Then DeGaulle came, he made outlandish promises to the people, betrayed everybody after the Peace Treaty and abandoned the Harkis and the Christians to their doom. The military turned to rebellion, they just couldn't leave Algeria after having defeated the murderers and turn the country to the same murderers.

The Foreign Legion went in mutiny, but only one regiment , the 1st REP, was phased out and its chiefs sent to jail. We have to suffer the consequences of that war to these days.
