Double Standards: Rush, Schultz, and Olympic Hypocrisy

Carbonite takes a loss dropping Rush but sticks with leftist Ed Schultz; and the castigation of Olympian Peter Vidmar.

So. Can you say “double-standard”?

Doubtless you saw this story on Carbonite last week from the always informative William A. Jacobson over at Legal Insurrection.

Carbonite, you will recall, is the online data backup company that abruptly pulled its sponsorship from Rush Limbaugh’s show over the Sandra Fluke dust-up. (And in case you missed it, Ms. Fluke spent time yesterday introducing President Obama on the campaign trail.)

In a spot-on piece of reporting, Jacobson wrote of the economic fallout of Carbonite’s move:

On August 1 Carbonite released its 2d Quarter 2012 results, the first full quarter after dropping Limbaugh in March. The results shocked Wall Street, as Carbonite did not meet its growth targets, causing multiple analysts to drop the target price. The stock dropped 15% in a day. (h/t reader W)

Most important, in a conference call held on August 1, the CEO David Friend admitted that dropping Limbaugh damaged Carbonite’s growth, and is likely to do so for at least one or two more quarters.

Jacobson quotes directly from a conference phone call with financial analysts made by Carbonite’s CEO Mr. Friend: “It turned out to be a bigger hole in our revenue than we had thought when we initially did this.”

Friend then added: “However, I don’t think there was any, I’m not regretful of the decision, I think things would have been worse had we not done that.”

Jacobson concludes by stating the obvious:

The last statement by Friend, that the damage would have been worse had Carbonite not dropped Limbaugh is laughable. Friend has been caught doing serious damage to shareholders based on a political decision which was taken precipitously on a Saturday night. It’s too convenient now to say things would have been worse, when Friend completely misjudged the impact of dropping Limbaugh.

So what’s new today?

Take a look over here at the radio show website for left-winger and MSNBC TV host, the far-left Ed Schultz. You know, the Ed Schultz who, exactly like Rush, got into a sticky wicket for referring to a woman as a “slut.” In Rush’s case the target was left-winger Sandra Fluke. In Schultz’s case it was conservative Laura Ingraham. Specifically, recall, Schultz called Ingraham a “right wing slut” and a “talk slut.”

As with Rush Limbaugh, Schultz apologized.

There the similarity ends.

When one scrolls down on the site for Schultz’s radio show — right now — what does one see?

Hello Mr. Lord.

Welcome to Earth and particularly, the United States.

I see that you have just found out about the Double Standard that exists here, when it comes to certain situations and depending on Political Affiliation, how the outcomes of these situations vary Exponentially.

If you're on the Left? You get, what we call here on Earth, a Free Pass. If your on the Left, and you're involved in certain Perversions - Sex with your same gender, with Inanimate objects, with lots of other people, with lots of Inanimate objects. Or even Sex with a Fat Intern - you're a good person.

If you're on the Left, and you're BLACK?

You sh*t Vanilla Ice Cream.

You can Smoke Crack with a Whore in a Motel WHILE you're The Mayor and WHILE the FBI is filming you and still get Re-elected.

You can be Federal Judge who was Impeached for taking Bribes and they will Elect you to the House.

You can be the Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee and NOT PAY YOUR TAXES, and you will get Re-elected.

You can be the President who had Judges UNSEAL his former Political Opppnents' SEALED RECORDS, on the grounds that "The people have a right to know who they're voting for" yet refuse to reciprocate, when it comes to His Sealed Documents.

Leftists can call you a C*NT. A SLUT. A WHORE.

It's okay. He's a Comedian. He's Black. He's Gay. She's a Lezbo. It's in between Genders.

Just don't say anything or you immediately become a Racist a Bigot a Homophobe and The Enemy.

Again: Welcome to Earth.

George True| 8.9.12 @ 1:35PM

As usual Mr Pennell, your commentary is concise and on the mark. I don't think Mr Lord is just discovering the double standard. He is merely lamenting the latest iteration of it. We all know that the media is the defacto propaganda arm of the Democrat Party. As such, it is important to shout from the rooftops the duplicity and double standard as often as posssible and in every forum possible. Death by a thousand cuts to the communists.

JD| 8.9.12 @ 2:59PM

Concise? He's hardly concise. But he and Lord are right about this. As I wrote a few days ago, most liberals lack the ability to perceive perspectives other than their own. They are thus massive hypocrites, without ever knowing it.

TLP| 8.9.12 @ 5:01PM

I guess that was one of those BACKHANDED Compliments.

Thanks for Nothin.

Occam's Tool| 8.9.12 @ 3:43PM

Tim: Simply magnificent, as usual. Sir.

MK48| 8.9.12 @ 8:42PM

Don't let RCV hear you say that......

Von Mises Jr| 8.9.12 @ 7:50AM

This is much more involved than simple bias. It is how totalitarianism takes control. Individuals that challenge the party line are punished, and groups that do not comply are isolated and terrorized.
Hillary's idol Stalin perfected this totalitarianism in the USSR whereby if a man disappeared; his wife and friends would never speak of him again for fear of their own children's lives. It is as if he never existed. This is how they terrorize the masses and enforce compliance.
If this is the life you wish for yourself and your children, backup your computer with Carbonite and vote for Obama.

pogybait| 8.9.12 @ 8:45AM

Agreed Von, the left has always trademarked themselves as history's thugs from guillotines to enemies lists. In America it has run the gamut from lynchings to union thuggery and currently the intimidation of talk show sponsors. The effort is underway to change our lives from thinking men and women of principle to merely a tax with just enough left so we won't rise up and become targets of the state. It's all for the same purpose, because fanatical intolerance is part of their DNA.

Von Mises Jr| 8.9.12 @ 8:54AM

Check out Agenda21 YouTube "for dummies" and you can have the UN elites explain it to you.
All for one low price you get a 700 ft government apartment with light rail to your factory job with free choice between GM and GE. Pink slime for lunch and "Eva Peron" veggie burgers for dinner, hold the fries. Mayor Gloomberg will be distributing sugary drinks in urine specimen cups. Of course it will be saccharine sweetened. Get your ticket now before it is too late. Join now and you get a government subsidized golf cart and papers that permit you to travel to the edge of the fence.

pogybait| 8.9.12 @ 9:17AM

No, I think the real worry will be the midnight box cars taking us to some work camp creating bridges, roads, filling sand bags or marching in abortion parades. The principle task of these camps will be to ween us away from strict moral codes, strong family values, selfish ideals of materialism and class consciousness so that we can be molded into subordinate servants of the International Community.

Von Mises Jr| 8.9.12 @ 9:51AM

Even in Germany, the Weimar Republic lasted from 1919 to 1933 and was a nationalist movement based on socialism that entailed the defeat of WWI, revolution, civil war, depression and hyperinflation. The Progressives have a long way to go before they dispirit the people enough to have them buy hook, line and sinker into Nazism and extermination camps, no matter how much DRedful wishes for it.

WinnieR| 8.9.12 @ 4:09PM

The feudal system revisted. But first, they need to reduce population as humans have been declared a danger to the environment.

WinnieR| 8.9.12 @ 3:29PM

It is unfortunate so many of the liberals do not understand the dangers of intimidating speech. They clap along blindly over any steps to silence their opposition, until one day they realize their rights to speech have also been infringed.
Lenin, Stalin and Mao; Darwinians who treated people like animals. Over 200 million perished under their reigns of terror.

We are in a war of conservatives versus the liberals. Liberals know they are in a war and will firebombs cities and use nukes to win. Conservatives on the other hand abide by strict rules of engagement and patrol the streets with unloaded magazines.

Carmela| 8.9.12 @ 8:24AM

A double-standard, so what else is new. Schultz however has come out against the boycott of Limbaugh. I'll give him that. But the boycott has failed anyway, and Friend is left with egg on his face.

Pecos Pete| 8.9.12 @ 8:40AM

Please repeat reporting on Carbonite earnings in 3-4 months. Betcha earnings remain down not only for the next quarter but also for the next year.

Kwan| 8.9.12 @ 8:48AM

Why did this useful idiot Friend advertise on Rush's show in the first place?? Was it his and Soros's intention all along to pull the advertising once some "controversy" arose on Rush's show in an attempt to get other useful idiot CEO's to do the same. It would seem that this scheme like "Fast and Furious" has backfired.

Pelleas| 8.9.12 @ 8:49AM

The difference is that Laura Ingraham proves herself, day after day after day , to BE a friggin "slut"(actually, that is the MOST polite term one can possibly come up with to describe that despicable excuse for a human being..)- in her vomitous spew on the Air.

Hush Bimbo, BTW, ONLY offered a half-assed "apology" ( in the most limited sense of that word) only AFTER his sponsors started to jump-ship...

fmm| 8.9.12 @ 9:20AM

lol

TLP| 8.9.12 @ 9:30AM

Obviously, whatever's in your Mouth, is causing you to lose control of your mind.

Again.

Finish what's in your mouth, dress up like a Woman, and go out on a Vaseline Run, or whatever you do, when you finish touching yourself.

Then scribble down your Vomitous Spews about other people's "Vomitous Spews".

What a Fckng Mess you must be.

Pelleas| 8.9.12 @ 9:52AM

At least I don't dress up in the white robes of the KKK...

AND

I don't recoil in disgust after "touching myself" ( what a "quaint" vocabulary you have...) unlike yourself, whose hate-filled body must be bursting at the seams with the SHIT you spew..

Anthony| 8.9.12 @ 11:54AM

No Pelleass, that would have been Sen. Robert Byrd (D) West Virginia. Former Kleg of the Klan. The former Democrat Senate Majority Leader, hmm imagine that?
Yes, the Ds are all Klansmen, now have them prove otherwise. You like that game moron?

Occam's Tool| 8.9.12 @ 3:46PM

Anthony:

Dear Sir, Kleagle is what the idiot was. From the ever so right wing wiki:

"In the early 1940s, Byrd recruited 150 of his friends and associates to create a new chapter of the Ku Klux Klan.[9]

According to Byrd, a Klan official told him, "You have a talent for leadership, Bob ... The country needs young men like you in the leadership of the nation." Byrd later recalled, "Suddenly lights flashed in my mind! Someone important had recognized my abilities! I was only 23 or 24 years old, and the thought of a political career had never really hit me. But strike me that night, it did."[9] Byrd held the titles Kleagle (recruiter) and Exalted Cyclops.[9] When it came time to elect the "Exalted Cyclops", the top officer in the local Klan unit, Byrd won unanimously.[9]

In 1944, Byrd wrote to segregationist Mississippi Senator Theodore G. Bilbo:[17]

I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side ... Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.
—Robert C. Byrd, in a letter to Sen. Theodore Bilbo (D-MS), 1944[9]"

Anthony| 8.9.12 @ 5:47PM

Thanks OT, I get all those Klan designations wrong. Can't keep track of those silly appellations.
Quite correct CJW, and of course Bull Conner, Lester Maddox and George Wallace were all Democrats in good standing with the national party despite the historical revisionism of the left.
Oh, and so was Slick Willie's Arkansas mentor.

CJW| 8.9.12 @ 4:46PM

Anthony/OT
Justice Hugo Black, a Dem senator, appointed to the Supreme Court by Saint FDR, was also a member of the Klan.

TLP| 8.9.12 @ 5:11PM

They're all STILL Members of the Klan.

One look at what they've done to The Black Family, iIS all you need.

And, if you need More?

Just look at one of the first things this POS, in the White House, did when he got into Office.

He took away the Private School Vouchers for the Poor Minority Children in DC, in exchange for MONEY from the Teachers Unions.

The very same DC Schools that this POS claimed were "Not up to my Daughters Standards".

Apparently, as far as LIBERALS are concerned?

Teaching Black Slaves to Read and Write, is still Illegal.

Eagle Creek| 8.10.12 @ 1:39PM

Oh yes.. And, if you more ?

The no good Son-of-a-Bitch just gutted the welfare program, by executive fiat no less...

Why even look for a job when there are limitless free Food Stamps, free Section 8 Bungalows, free Cell Phones, free I-Pads and free T-Bird Wine

Jade12| 8.9.12 @ 6:33PM

At least I don't dress up in the white robes of the KKK...

Oh you mean like Dem Senator Byrd did?

Gary B| 8.9.12 @ 10:00AM

This is what passes for debate in the world of useful-idiot progressives. How 'bout we have Laura Ingraham debate the Georgetown slut on whether there should even be a national policy on health care?

What's really great it to watch progressives talk themselves into a knot. They're out of solutions. Everything they've ever promoted has failed. And, now, they're out of other people's money. If they're really lucky, they can start over on Mars.

jothepro| 8.9.12 @ 10:04AM

soljerblue| 8.9.12 @ 1:10PM

"most polite term"? You wouldn't know "polite" if it jumped up and bit you on your stupiud @zz. You're a foul mouthed, kool-aid drinking, left-wing moron. And your gutter vocabulary proves it. You speak quite well for the dipsquats whose idea of debate is hate speech, envy, and resentment of anything and anyone they disagree with.

Go p*** up a rope.

Pelleas| 8.9.12 @ 3:12PM

Blue-butt

Just speaking to you pigs , in the ONLY language you seem to respond to, judging from the barn-yardf filth I see here each and every day, regardless of the subject matter..

The hate you feel is justified from the hate you've spewed , to begin with---there is no reasoning , or speaking politely , to you creeps...

soljerblue| 8.9.12 @ 6:59PM

You're mumbling around your teabag, moron.

inxy| 8.9.12 @ 1:35PM

Just how else would you describe a woman that spends the amount of money on contraceptives that Fluke does ? Laura is a class act. It is unfortunate that you can not tell the difference. Judging be your comment you are in the same class as Fluke.

Occam's Tool| 8.9.12 @ 4:00PM

Pelleas: how do Laura's political discussions and views indicate that she is personally a woman of low morality? For the record, Fluke is a Liberal jerk, and therefore a lowlife in my book, but she appears to be monogamous and recently got married, I believe.

But she knew what she was getting into when she applied to Georgetown, and the cost of her Contraceptive protection was minimal. I am fairly certain that Georgetown would not be discriminating against the drug being used for polycystic ovary disease, for example, as non-treatment of that leads to infertility.

MK48| 8.9.12 @ 8:46PM

I would never have heard about Carbonite except for Rush, and even then I didn't buy it.

soljerblue| 8.9.12 @ 1:11PM

I've got Life Lock -- they stuck with ElRusbo

Fiscal| 8.9.12 @ 10:04AM

Mr. Lord, you mean people's beliefs affect their actions? Well shiver me timbers....

And some people don't think that profits should overshadow their beliefs? Holy c..p!!!!

I'm sure we won't find anyone here at TAS who would do something like eat at a Chick-Fil-A to back their beliefs or would ever give up a nickel of profit for their beliefs...

This is NOT a double standard -- it is an example of someone who values their beliefs over profits. And you don't agree????

Nick| 8.9.12 @ 10:20AM

Wrong, as usual, Fecal.
A double standard is just another way to say hypocrite.

Friend is a world-class hypocrite for pulling advertising from Rush for calling Sandy the Slut...well...a slut; while continuing to advertise with Ed Putz, who used exactly the same word.

Is this really that hard for you to understand?

Fiscal| 8.9.12 @ 10:28AM

Really? So you agree that both Sandy and Laura are sluts? If you don't, it must be a double standard.

The problem for you, Nickie, is that you don't agree with Friend's beliefs. If you did, you'd praise his actions.

Mike G| 8.9.12 @ 10:57AM

Friend was acting in support of his beliefs? If that's so, why was he advertising on Rush in the first place? It's hard to believe his head so far under the sand that he didn't know Rush is conservative! So is he an idiot or a hypocrite?

Fiscal| 8.9.12 @ 1:37PM

It's hard to know what pushes someone over the line. Perhaps he has a daughter in the same situation. My guess is that he doesn't have an all or nothing view of the world like most of you.

JD| 8.9.12 @ 3:11PM

Oh, stop it. The labeling of beliefs as "all-or-nothing" is far too subjective and easily abused to be meaningful.

Talk to your friends who label all disagreement with them as "bigotry" if you want to find real abuse of the concept.

TLP| 8.9.12 @ 5:17PM

So, you're saying that he might have a Daughter, who's such a SLUT, that she can't afford her own Contraception?

Is that what you're saying?

If Fluke wants to get Flucked, every night?

Let the Bitch pay for her own Rubbers.

Nick| 8.9.12 @ 11:22AM

Wrong, again, Fecal. Is this your attempt at logic?
And, when did Miss Ingraham advocate that taxpayers pay for her $1,000 a year birth control bill? I must have missed that.

I never stated that I had a problem with Friend pulling his advertising. I have a problem with Friend LYING about why he did it, that's all. And I have a problem with hypocrites.

Besides, I just heard Miss Ingraham read a commercial for Carbonite. So, if you bought their services in support of dropping Rush, you also helped pay for advertising on The Laura Ingraham Show. Ha-ha!
Hope that makes your day. It made mine.

Fiscal| 8.9.12 @ 1:39PM

Did he really lie? Perhaps it was that this particular statement pushed him over the line and normally ideology doesn't get in his way. That would explain why he's kept on with Laura.

Nick| 8.9.12 @ 2:16PM

Huh?
How does that explain why Friend didn't pull his ads from Ed Putz? Or, if he wasn't advertising with Putz when he called Miss Ingraham a slut; why is he now running ads with Putz?

Obviously, calling someone a "slut" is not the criteria Friend is using. So, when he claimed that it was because Rush called Sandy the Slut a slut, he was lying.
Get it now?

Therefore, you were WRONG when you tried to assert that there is no double standard.
And, Mr. Lord was RIGHT!

Fiscal| 8.9.12 @ 2:52PM

Perhaps Friend didn't view a college girl in the same way as a talk show host who has publicly used rough language in the past. I certainly don't. However, for me, calling either of them a "slut" crosses the line and is one of the reasons I won't listen to either Ed or Rush. Again, it is bias that determines whether this was a double standard or not. If you can't see that, I can't help you (nor do you really want discuss this intelligently).

Perhaps, Nickie, there IS something between being RIGHT and WRONG.

JD| 8.9.12 @ 3:05PM

So long as Friend cites the name as the reason for the decision, he's a hypocrite. If he wants to make a decision based on his political views, let him say so.

Also, the term in question, while profane, does have a specific meaning. That meaning was far more relevant to Rush's use of it than Schultz's.

Albert Constantine Jr.| 8.9.12 @ 3:50PM

Does referring to a 31 year old political activist woman (age 30 at the time that she thrust herself into the national spotlight by appearing as a commentator fraudulently posing as a witness before a phony congressional 'hearing') as a "college girl" get you in trouble with the feminists, Fiscal?

CJW| 8.9.12 @ 4:47PM

Albert
How was Avalon?

Nick| 8.9.12 @ 4:19PM

All you have are suppositions, Fecal. You've use the word "perhaps" three times. Do you have any substance?

I've shown, objectively, that Friend is a world-class hypocrite.
And, NO, there is only right and wrong.

TLP| 8.9.12 @ 5:20PM

There isn't a grey area between Right and Wrong.

If this WHORE, wants to WHORE around?

It's nobody's job to PAY FOR IT, other than THE WHORE?

Right?

TSIndiana| 8.9.12 @ 7:39PM

You will never get a Tea Party hater to stop hating. It's their thing...just like Rush decided to hate the Georgetown woman. I think the company revenue is down because of both market conditions and the hundreds of thousands that took extreme offense at what Rush said.

George S| 8.9.12 @ 11:48AM

But what if you believe profits are immoral? That's what socialists believe... and MoveOn and all the other left wing "think tanks". Why doesn't Friend charge customers his cost and no more?

I will bet that if you examined revenue vs cost for pre-Limbaugh Carbonite and Exxon-Mobil, and any for-profit insurance company, that Carbonite would have a much higher profit margin.

How's that for a double-standard double-standard?

Fiscal| 8.9.12 @ 1:41PM

Do you really think that Friend doesn't like profits? He runs a for profit company. He simply heard something that he considered over the line. I'm sure you've never heard anyone say something that made you angry -- have you???

George S| 8.9.12 @ 3:03PM

Carbonite is a publicly traded company with shareholders as part owners, who have an interest in profits to increase the value of their shares. Friend has a fiduciary responsibility to those shareholders. If pulling ads from Limbaugh without the consent of the owners results in losses of share values, the owners have been harmed. They are only interested in the financial well-being of the company, not Friend's political beliefs.

If you owned shares in the company and took losses as a result, I doubt you would be indulging your political solidarity with Friend. But as usual, other people's money is of no consequence to a liberal -- unless they make more than they do and therefore are entitled to their "fair share".

TSIndiana| 8.9.12 @ 7:43PM

Yea right...their losses were from the media exposure when most people thought his comments were just more of the Rush extreme hate.

Poppakap| 8.10.12 @ 10:52AM

Even if it's not an example of a double standard (your argument is not convincing in the slightest), it's at a minimum an example of extraordinary foolishness and ideology over rationality. Mr. Friend's job (I know this a tough concept for socialists) is to make decisions that return unique value to his shareholders. Since he can't seem to reign in his ideologies enough to do that, he should be fired. Period. Then, he can sit on the sidelines and have the luxury of putting beliefs before profits.

Anthony| 8.9.12 @ 10:08AM

But even with non leftist owned companies, CEOs are trembling in their shoes if they don't give into the thugish tactics of Obozo's goon squads.
They all know the left owns the debate especially with the media whores as backup. This is why the left never let up, they are telling everybody, do it our way or we will destroy you.
Sadly, they have the muscle to do it. We need to put an end to it. It's all the left have left, intimidation, threats, and violence.
Hope & Change my ass!!!

Gary B| 8.9.12 @ 10:32AM

Anthony: The mood of the country now is such that corporations would probably get away clean if they did stand up to the usual leftist thuggery. The silent majority is waking up and it's pissed at these people.

The problem, I suppose, is that CEOs must be careful with stockholders' money so they play it safe. This leftist bozo at Carbonite is the exception.

Anthony| 8.9.12 @ 11:58AM

True Gary, but if just ONE spoke up, kinda like Joe the Plumber CEO, you're right, the response from conservatives would bring the house down.
We are itching for an end to this leftist madness.

Gary B| 8.9.12 @ 1:46PM

Right... Every time a business leader stands up to this BS, he becomes a national hero overnight. Too bad others don't see that.

TLP| 8.9.12 @ 5:23PM

I wouldn't worry about these Companies.

I understand that Hong Kong and Singapore are nice, this time of year.

And, who could blame them?

Kwan| 8.9.12 @ 11:24AM

Once Obama activates his "Civilian National Security Force" failure to tow the party line will result in a one-way trip to the gulags, where anti-leftist activists check-in but they don't check-out.

Lock and Load.

Bring it on!

Anthony| 8.9.12 @ 5:57PM

You bet TLP!!!Bring Obozo's goose-steppers on. We should be so lucky that these bastards would have the guts to confront us mano e mano.
Don't fire until you see the whites of their voter I.D. cards!!
Hey, I bet Obozo still thinks FDR's gulags for Japanese Americans are still standing. Or those are the shovel ready jobs he has planned for his second term.
Will Biteme replace Sargent Shultz? And who will be Col. Klink? Maybe Harry Reid.
Will their uniforms and Jackboots be American made?

TLP| 8.9.12 @ 7:13PM

The whites of their Voter ID Cards.

Nice.

Nick| 8.9.12 @ 10:11AM

El Rushbo was completely correct about Sandy the Slut.
She was seen prostituting herself in Colorado, yesterday.

Gary B| 8.9.12 @ 10:35AM

Rush made her famous for... being a slut. Her ten minutes are just about up. "Hey kids, back in 2012 when your mommy was in college she gained national fame for being a world class slut."

junkyard infidel| 8.9.12 @ 12:40PM

Oldefarte| 8.9.12 @ 10:51AM

Jeffrey's editorial is [as usual] outstandingly informative. I suspect that this sort of thing is occurring additionally in numerous other situations, involving other products/companies etc by the radical left. As such, they mostly keep extremely quiet about their subversive operations so as not to alert the general public as to their trojun-horsed political community organizings. I would only request that if possible, Jeffrey and other writers of conservatism inform the public/their readers also as to which companies, advertisers etc are doing things similar to this Carbonite [along with their contact information if possible so that conservatives could opine/email their thoughts/disagreements directly to the entities involved]. As with the general public protest over the CFA issue, collective protests by conservatives does have an effect in counter attacking this subversive activity by the radicals of liberalism!!!!

nathan| 8.9.12 @ 11:00AM

Spirited debate is one thing, but look at the postings here. I mean really?

American Spectator, start enforcing the rules please? Start monitoring these posts and anything with cursing or curses with letters left out, just delete. Someone make a case that cursing adds to the discourse. You can't. NO, YOU CAN'T.

And it was bad enough when Rush and Ed called Sandy a slut, why does it have to be repeated here? "Gentlemen" well raised individuals, don't use such language. I mean when Rush did it, in what way did it advance the discourse? How does it advance it now? Do "conservatives" (are there any here, you have to wonder sometimes) really talk this way? Should they talk this way? Or leave it to others? I don't care if the left is ghastly horrible. That's no excuse reason for the right to be equally so. We are supposed to better than they are. The Founders said the answer to bad speech is better speech. This stuff is not what they had in mind folks (although to be sure their negative campaigning was remarkable indeed.)

Now call me all the names you want. I've heard it all before.

Drunken Sailor| 8.9.12 @ 11:42AM

Is your skin always so thin?

soljerblue| 8.9.12 @ 1:21PM

Nathan -- we have simply stopped trying to have civil debate and discourse with the programmed morons on the left. We intend to give them back the poison they've so ably dispensed with impunity for so many years. There comes a time when a spade must be called a spade -- or a moron, a fool, a socialist tool, a useful idiot, a fellow traveler, whatever term you want to use, be used to describe the truth. In other words -- we calls 'em as we sees 'em.

TLP| 8.9.12 @ 5:33PM

The Jeffrey "I'm Rush's Publicist" Lord garbage truck continues. Why TAS lets this guy go on with this paid commercial campaign is beyond me.

George True| 8.9.12 @ 1:51PM

He pointed out a glaringly obvious double standard. The fact that you didn't even try to refute it speaks volumes.

JD| 8.9.12 @ 3:01PM

Ah, the response of a hateful person who cannot address the issue.

Occam's Tool| 8.9.12 @ 4:03PM

RCV: Jeff Lord usually writes interesting Conservative stuff. He was a major player in Ronaldus Magnus' administration. C'mon.

I disagree fervently with Mr. Reid's opinion on Israel that he has published in TAS, but he has a right to post here. I support freedom.

RCV| 8.9.12 @ 4:51PM

Many of Jeffrey's posts are provocative and interesting and enjoyable to read. However, his constant publicity for the Limbaugh family is just tiring, and I just have to wonder why TAS allows this kind of promotion to pass as commentary.

Hope you're well, Occam.

TLP| 8.9.12 @ 5:41PM

"However, his constant publicity for the Limbaugh Family is just tiring."

Doctor Right| 8.9.12 @ 11:54AM

Even if all 3 of the people who listen to Ed Schultz's show buy a subscription to Carbonite it's not going to help their bottom-line.

The REAL story here is that this Friend moron is apparently a lifelong Liberal who nonetheless was perfectly happy to make $$ off of Rush's show.

In other words, a complete hypocrite.

TLP| 8.9.12 @ 7:18PM

I gotta tell ya.

Since you've stopped obsessing with me?

You've been writing some really good stuff.

I just thought I'd pass that on.

sethblink| 8.9.12 @ 8:03PM

I assume from your name that you might be a doctor. If so, do you only treat people who agree with you politically? What about the people who work for you, and the people whose products you buy? Do you check all their allegiances before exchanging goods and services?

I don't know if you recall, but once upon a time we had a thing in this country called civil discourse, where people argued over politics and such, but still did business with and socialized with those with whom they disagreed.

If Friend is a liberal, it doesn't make him a hypocrite just because he's willing to sell his services to conservatives, and that he was willing to pay money to a conservative radio host in order to reach those customers. It just means he's a business man. Anything wrong with that.

It was Limbaugh who pushed the discourse with Fluke to such an extreme that Friend felt the need to end that business relationship.

He may have made the decision on a strictly business level, thinking he'd rather lose the Limbaugh supporters than the Limbaugh detractors. If that's the case, he may have chosen wrongly.

Or he may have made the decision based on the fact that he was deeply personally offended by what Limbaugh said, not because he was strongly in favor of Ms. Fluke's position, but because what Limbaugh said was truly offensive.

Either way, I don't see how you can see hypocrisy in any of his actions.

Who Knows?| 8.9.12 @ 12:13PM

Standards? What is a standard, anyway?

Face it---there is a crisis of “meaning” going on.

In short, Nietzsche---despite being mostly unread by most people---has “won”, being basically misunderstood.

It’s all about his book, “Beyond Good and Evil”, eh?

High-flying power seekers, especially in politics, always learn from previous masters. For example, there was a Bill Clinton noting, “What is the meaning of ‘is’?”

You can pick up habits from “wise men”, just like from alcoholics, or your religious parents. The best of the best can only climb atop the pyramid of power by taking into account all “Clintons”.

Obama and his winners have taken our politics so HIGH!

They are trapeze artists, and there is no net beneath them.

Though they MIGHT believe in gravity, they either think they’ll be able to fall most of their life, and enjoy the time in the air, before hitting the ground; or they think there is NO GROUND.

Either way, standards are NOW so yesterday.

Tom Kyba| 8.9.12 @ 12:58PM

Trolls are funny people. No matter how phony and two-faced liberals are, trolls will try to turn the argument around and force conservatives to play defence. This is the only way they can "win" an argument; by changing the subject. The most obvious example of hypocracy imaginable and yet Friend is somehow displaying principles. Well hardy har har. Keep up the good work.
AS for RCV, no one this planet cares what you think.

Petronius| 8.9.12 @ 1:06PM

politics is about demographics and numbers on election day. The biggest demographic is the low rent charlatan adoring sub human parasites. Marriage vows are just words in a nihilistic world where words mean whatever people want to believe. And people like that cannot be defeated politically. Nothing will improve until they are Gone.

soljerblue| 8.9.12 @ 1:24PM

perhaps we have some options there, also.

mzk| 8.9.12 @ 1:14PM

I agree with his point.

It should be pointed out that they continue to advertise on all of the other Conservative talk shows.

PS ProFlowers lost me as a customer in that.

Skippy| 8.9.12 @ 2:00PM

Me too.
About a dozen gifts of flowers annually will no longer be with proflowers.
Oops.

Occam's Tool| 8.9.12 @ 3:56PM

Friend is a business idiot. Had he continued to advertise, he could have used a free speech rationale. Now, he simply sets himself up for vindictiveness on the Right, and the majority of the Left has no use for Carbonite.

obadiah| 8.9.12 @ 1:51PM

Another episode in the eternal war between deviants and dittoheads. Dittoheads win the vast majority of the battles but deviants never go away like they're supposed to after being defeated.

George True| 8.9.12 @ 2:13PM

What none of this takes into account is the potentially millions of potential customers who would have considered Carbonite who now have said, silently to themselves, "No way. Not ever".

I was one such potential customer. I rarely listen to Rush. Not that I don't like him, but I have my own life, which doesn't include listening to talk radio three hours a day. But on the infrequent occasions that I did tune in, I almost always heard the Carbonite commercial. I was thinking about subscribing. Now I would not subscribe under any circumstances.

I imagine there are hundreds of thousands like me out there. As we recently have seen with the Chick-Fil-A matter, and the resulting outpouring of support for that company, when the left tries to demonize a company merely for having and quietly stating their beliefs, there is a much larger segment of the population who can and will vote with their wallets, in opposition the the manufactured controversies that the left perpetrates.

More and more companies will begin to discover that their best interest lies in NOT caving to the outlandish PC demands of the left and its media propaganda arm.

Kpar| 8.9.12 @ 2:34PM

I currently have carbonite, and I would be happy to change. Anybody have any recommendations?

Anthony| 8.9.12 @ 6:02PM

Life Lock is the company you want. Check Rush's web page to be certain. I don't have either, but am thinking Life Lock if that will screw a lefty.

Abu Nudnik| 8.9.12 @ 4:53PM

The only thing I can't figure is why he advertised for years on Rush's show? Obviously it's a big hit and Rush is a good salesman.

Great work pointing out the double standards, Jeff. The only thing you miss is that Laura preaches against slutty behavior while Ms. Fluke must be in favor of it, considering how much she wants for condoms.

I just copied the above questionnaire and printed it and carried out to my son, who is right now sitting out on the back porch and I said, "Son, I want you to answer these questions and when I showed him the questionnaire, his face turned as read as a Louisiana crayfish and I'm beginning to wonder--I've been wondering about him for a while now--it'll kill his mother, I mean kill her if he's . . . I cannot even bring myself to say the word God help me God help us all and I won't sleep a wink tonight

Sylvia| 8.9.12 @ 6:14PM

Mr. Bascomb L.

I think I can help. Does your son drive one of those muscle cars I mean like a vintage Mustang with double mufflers and does he listen to heavy metal and have tattoos up and down his arms.

If this description fits him, you can be sure that he's 1) straight as an arrow and horny round the clock 2) or he may be gay--it's hard to tell now
Some guys think it's cool to be gay, and they like to "experiment" That's what they tell me, and boys like to tell me their secrets. Lord! the stuff they do. Makes me blush just to think about it.

I think Rush could spare the air time to report quarterly earnings for every sponsor who has left him- -how about those Sleep Number folks? Are there any others, Snapple?

They may "come back" in time, but steadily advancing is not the same as coming back from a loss! Who is to say their earnings would not have tripled if they had stayed on board?

I was considering using Carbonite because of Rush. Now, because of the lack of character of their CEO, I would never trust them to keep my files secure and private. The CEO sets the moral and professional standard for a company.
