No wonder evolution takes a long time, it brings real
consequences. Of course, when the “evolving” we are talking about
is Obama’s changing position on gay marriage, those consequences
are not about natural selection, but November election. And there,
evolution’s consequences may be just as serious.
Looking at polls now starting to measure the public’s reaction
to Obama’s changed position and you understand why he did not want
to be forced to do this prior to Election Day.
For the most part, people do not seem to care. This would appear
to be a reprieve for Obama… until you look inside the poll numbers.
Those who do care — i.e., those most likely to take action on his
changed position — do not like it.
According to the CBS News/NYTimes poll (released 5/14,
of 562 registered voters and MOE +/-4.1%), 58% of registered voters
said it would have “no effect” on whether they would vote for him.
More interesting is the minority who said it would have an
effect. Only 16% said it would make them “more likely” to vote for
Obama, while 25% said it would make them “less likely.”
USA Today/Gallup’s poll (released 5/11, of 1,013 adults
and MOE +/-3.1%) showed an even bigger gulf. By 2 to 1, “less
likely” prevailed (26% to 13%) among those responding that it would
affect their likelihood of voting for Obama.
A Pew Research Center poll (released 5/14, 1,003 respondents,
MOE +/-3.1%) showed the same pattern — 19% viewed Obama “more
favorably,” versus 25% “less favorably.”
You might say such small differences, among a minority of
adults, is not a big deal. However, that difference rippled
ominously across the political spectrum in all the polls.
For instance, in the CBS News/NYTimes poll, only 14% of
Independents said Obama’s decision made them more likely to vote
for Obama, while 22% said less likely. Even among Democrats, 12% of
them responded that it made them less likely — and Obama’s
unfavorable rating among Democrats in this poll was just
7%.
Worst of all, is how all groups perceived the evolution. When
asked “do you think that Obama publicly supported same-sex marriage
mostly because he thinks it is right, or mostly for political
reasons?” the verdict was decidedly in favor of political
reasons.
By roughly 2 to 1 (67% to 24%), respondents felt politics
prevailed. Even the majority of Democrats so perceived it (48% to
42%), while Independents broke this way 70% to 20%.
There are several lessons to take from these early poll results
— none of them particularly heartening for the White
House.
First, in a tight election, as this one is expected to be, small
margins can mean a lot.
Second, these small margins are not simply limited to one group
of voters — i.e., Republicans — who Obama could have written off
anyway. Independents and even some Democrats are contributing to
them.
Third, the perception of the action is strongly seen as
political. That means Obama may get only limited credit for it —
even from those who support it — while still retaining full blame
from those who oppose it. The perception of it as politically
motivated may well explain the net negative impact among those who
say the Administration’s change of position may influence their
vote.
These are not the political results one wants from a policy
decision in any race, but particularly less than six months away
from one that is as close as this one is. It’s hardly surprising
that the Administration did not want to have to make it now. If
Obama should lose in November and people are trying to deconstruct
why, they may not need to look further than “evolution” to find the
missing link.

Gay marriage is a political and moral loser. Sane people, on reflection, will see that this insanity will never work in a real society. I just wish we had a better guy then Romney trying to defend this institution. His record to say the least, is wishy washy. Gay adoption is a crime against humanity. Romney was for it, before he was against it it just like abortion, and TARP.

Contrary to what the Author of this article is claiming, we are not Evolving. Nobody is Evolving, anywhere on this Planet.
If you look around, you will find that, if anything, we are going in the other direction. We are DEVOLVING, and quite quickly, I might add.
Political Correctness in the West, has brought about an unbelievable Metamorphosis in the way Man is going about his business, these days. Unlike the Reinnasance, this new "Cultural Awakening", like Mao's, (You know Mao. He's the Greatest Mass Murderer of his own people, of the 20th Century, and the 1st guy to use the phrase "FOREWARD" as his Political Mantra. Obama is the 2nd.) seeks to bring us BACK, to the Dark Ages. The time after ROME fell.
The Left's Religious fervor, against any Religion that would try and reign in their more Baser Instincts, is fought against with a fervor that would make The Crusaders smile. Think: THE WHORE - Tamara Holder. They seek to replace the Monotheism of The Bible, with Pagan Worship of the Earth, the Sky, and the Forest. God has been replaced by GAEA, Mother Earth.
Once, Sovereign Nations, with their own, unique people, and ways of doing things, because of a No Borders Mentality, have become areas where there is no longer a National Identity, but instead, different TRIBES go against each other, vying for a share of the resources. And, in these lands, a National Language has been deemed RACIST, and an ANACHRONISM of the Past, and has been replaced with a 21st Century version of Babylon, after the King's arrow was shot at GOD.
Our Economic Systems are being pulled, back in time, to a place where EVerything belonged to The King. And his Subjects would have to get by, on the Benevolence of their Ruler.
We once used the Sun for our Heat and Light, and the power of the Wind, to move our goods to other Far Away Lands. Then we Evolved our Energy Resources in to Oil, Gas, Coal, and Nuclear Power. All the things that our Evolved President, and his Evolutionary Progressed Allies, have deemed Unacceptable, favouring, instead, those Energy Sources from the Far Flung Past.
If we are Evolving? If what we are doing -moving FOREWARD by going BACKWARD - can be considered Evolution?
Then, I believe that I have just answered the ages old Enigma of "Which came first? The Chicken or the egg?"
Simple - The answer is: YES.

No, President Barry will bag the black vote no matter who or WHAT he engages with. These people are the furthest thing from a color blind a racial group in this nation. But don't take my word for it. I was no saint as a child, but the one thing my parents WOULD NOT tolerate was lying. If a child will tell small lies to his teachers or parents, how does one know they are not being lied to about BIG things?
So is "Green Energy" and AGW a lie, Mr. Obumer? Are the "fat cat" class envy and racism charges a lie, Barry? We know "if you like your health care, you can keep it" was a lie. His ads about Bain Capital reference a deal that occurred two years after Romney left. That is also a lie about Romney's financial management at Bain.

Indy, that's too funny. The last one at this blog was used by Perpy last Friday. I cited my son graduating summa cum laude and hit the "i" instead of the "u" in spelling "summa." Therefore it was no longer necessary for Perpy to back up his claim of reading Von Mises since I misspelled a word.

Indy, you always have great takes. I checked out the link about his records being sealed and it reminded me of the Charlie Rose interview w/ Tom Brokaw one week prior to the election of 2008:
Rose--"We really don't know much about Barrack Obama, do we?
Brokaw: "No we don't. We really don't know much about him at all."
Rose: "We don't know his views on China, for example."
Brokaw: "It has not been examined at all. We don't know what books he has read, or his world views on China or India. We in the media have really not done a good job. There are bloggers, for example, who are just waiting for "gotcha" moments when they follow John McCain on the campaign trail, but there is no intellectual vigor on the part of the media."

Just read this, I was not aware of the 5/1/12 executive order, they don't stop, do they...I recommend this full post, I'm going to fax it to my Rep / Senators for what it's worth...
an excerpt:
"Dear Mr. Boehner, Mr. McConnell, et. al;
Our federal government is out of control. It is not the role of the federal government to regulate the daily lives of the citizens. It is not the role of the federal government to regulate domestic commerce. It is not the role of the federal government to tell farmers what to grow, nor tell people what to eat. It is not the role of the federal government to dictate the education of our children. It is not the job of the federal government to trespass into state criminal investigations.
It is not the role of the federal government to control our rural or municipal affairs; yet, the President has now established federal councils for both rural affairs (Executive Order 13575—Establishment of the White House Rural Council June 9, 2011)and municipal affairs (Executive Order -- Establishing a White House Council on Strong Cities, Strong Communities May 1, 2012). Russia called these councils the “sovyet” and they are the final building blocks to communism. It is not the role of the Federal government to be the people’s nanny.
It’s not the role of the Federal government to spend this nation into oblivion. Pardon me if I do not get excited about your current budget debate. That drama has outlived itself, and I say let the government shut down for a while; we might buy a few more days of life for our Constitution. I am also not impressed by your resolution on foreign affairs, encouraging “democracies" in foreign nations, while our republic is being actively destroyed by its own government.
It is your role, Congress, to stop the Executive encroachment into the Legislature and it is your duty to stop the Federal encroachment upon individual Liberty. Our founders took great care when creating a federal government that would be limited and always in submission to the states and the people. WHEN is Congress going to take a real stand against the destruction of the rights and privileges of this people? Will you wait until it’s too late? Mere “outrage” doesn’t get the job done. This Congress is pushing the nation to a point of turmoil it has not seen for 150 years. And make no mistake; each and every one of you will be personally responsible for what will occur. Are you prepared to live with that responsibility and those consequences? It will not fall on the shoulders of the President alone and the blame game will not alleviate the suffering of our children when they are so grievously affected. Yet, we can avoid repeating the mistakes of our history. But we must act now. We must act decisively. If not, we will regret our neglect. We have the opportunity now, but have no guarantee it will be available much longer." more at the link

“I often wonder, what's so interesting talking to someone who believes what you believe - isn't that boring?”
I would describe “boring” as talking with someone who doesn’t know what he’s talking about, and I would be describing you.
Among those who post regularly on this site, there are very few who universally believes the same thing. People here differ on issues of life, race, foreign policy, fiscal policy, economics, chivalry and just about every issue I can think which has been discussed. Sometimes the disagreements are respectful, other times they are not.
One of the few things that seem to be close to universal here is a disdain for you and your comments. Thank you for serving as a unifying thread on this site to remind so many what they find unattractive about the left.

It's really funny - I am not of the left. I am mostly centrist, but to you people I am left because most of you are so far right. But, I'm sure you don't see that.
I do share some left leaning ideas, but I am an entrepreneur, incorporated my own business. I do prefer Obama over Know-nothing Romney, and normally I am fiscally conservative, but you people are wacko, thinking that trickle down economics works - it doesn't. We've been experimenting with it since Reagan's time, and it certainly didn't work. It can create a bubble - but as all bubbles go - they bust. THAT is not sound economic policy, doesn't pull people out of poverty nor grow the middle class. Without which fewer people have money to spend, and businesses have fewer customers to buy their goods and services.
It does however, increase the wealth at the top and it has done that appallingly well. 99% of us don't share in that bounty, as any time researching will tell you. And I don't mean newspapers or talk shows.

Another characteristic of the left is the lack of credibility. There is seemingly no line that they won't cross, no ethical boundary that fences you in, no means which can't be justified if it aids to accomplish your ends.
In light of your prior false statements and inconsistencies (as W points out in his 7:54 p.m. post), your denial that you are not of the left means very little. Dick Nome| 5.21.12 @ 10:01AM
Twurp lacks common sense. Pay no heed.
Purp| 5.21.12 @ 6:58PM
Yes - in one case commentators are paid to espouse what the boss says they should (Hannity and Limbaugh) without regard to being fair and balanced (words chosen purposely) and in the other case they are journalists who's job it is to be objective, however difficult that may be. Of course the left has their commentators too. The problem is that too often the right wing media manufactures a story, while both sides will hype a story for their own cause.
The fact there are more MSM outlets that are not a conservative bias just means that most people are not conservative, but just don't want to listen to you all whine and harangue all day about how liberals are this and liberals are that. So rather than put up with your nastiness (and you can read it here in response to almost anything I post) most people just say they are conservative to shut you up. As you are well aware Republican does not equal conservative, does it? That's not what I'm talking about. There are plenty of Republicans that are not conservative - that you degrade with the term RINO, just to try to nasty them away. It's your tactic as bullies and control freaks. But Americans are not like that.

So far Obama is running a dismal campaign. While it's obvious that he can't run effectively on his record, he has not been able to fashion another strategy. His team seems to flop around looking for some theme that might work, but they're constantly being trumped by the opposition. While it's still early in the race, if Obama can't do better, then he's dead meat.

Or is it devolving? Obama and the Democrat Party are attempting to bring down the pillars of American society in their never-ending quest to fundamentally transform the United States into a Totalitarian Socialist State. Marriage is one of those pillars so they seek to redefine it to include same-sex couples in order to distort the meaning of marriage. Our Constitution (another pillar) is a living and breathing document says the left that can be changed to accommodate the left's Marxist ideology. The left is big on redefinition out-of-control spending is now"investment", cutting spending is "racist", and Bruce and Charlie are now a married couple.
Steve Jay| 5.21.12 @ 11:13AM
All of this polling, ie: scientific studies seem to make the subject awfully complicated. Seems to me that anyone that would be convinced to cast their vote for Obama based on his 'coming out on gay marriage', were in the bag for him already. I can't believe that anyone of that persuasion would ever even consider voting for anyone of sound moral standing. I would bet that the Obama handlers would like to take good time Joe Biden out to the woodshed. There's a little educatin' to do Joe.
Seek| 5.21.12 @ 11:42AM
Barack Obama is a very calculating politician. He waited until now to announce his support for gay marriage because he saw too much of a political downside in doing so until now. But he may have miscalculated here.
True believers and true non-believers alike won't be affected at all by the president's recent "coming out." Together they constitute most of the electorate. But quite a few swing voters will take this into account. Some will look toward the president more favorably, but more, I think, will be less likely to vote for him. The overall opposition may hurt the president just enough in close states like Ohio and Florida to cost him re-election.
Buttstabbing has its political costs.

I am tired of the MSM description of Obama's "evolution" as if he wrestled with the philosophical considerations for months, balancing the conflicting views to try and determine what was best for the America he is supposed to be leading. This was a lazy man's decision based finally solely on political and emotional urges, with no thought for the implications on its effect, apart from political reward to those who might vote for him in the next election
Oldefarte| 5.21.12 @ 2:03PM
Of course his evolution [or a COMING OUT OF HIS CLOSET perhaps] was intentionally political. He's losing and he knows it. Being backed into a corner means grabbing at straws. My prayer is that this country can survive without getting facing a major catastrophe between now and January, since he'll be off playing golf or shootin' hoops with Michael Jordan when/if it occurs!!!!!!

The saddest commentary on all this is that the election might indeed be close. Which means that about half our citizens would actually vote for this obamination.
If this were the republic it once was, Obama would be thrown out of office in a heartbeat.
Then again, if this were the republic it once was, he would never have been elected to begin with. America is indeed in decline.

Obama needed the campaign dollars from the gay community, and he knew he wouldn't lose the black vote, even if they aired a film of him getting it on with a goat. A male goat at that! It was a purely political play.

Somehow, it would turn out that the goat was registered to vote in Chicago as a Democrat and had voted through absentee ballot in all presidential elections from 1960-02008.

Albert
Would that be a live goat or a dead goat. A dead goat votes only once but a live goat can vote as necessary according to Chicago rules.

Even if any progeny of the goat are born dead overseas, they will continue to be registered as Chicago Democrats.
