Latter Day Saintly Thoughts

Another reason why this is Mitt Romney’s year.

There is a big burly guy in my neighborhood named Joe, the kind of friendly gent who would never hurt a fly unprovoked but could probably smash anyone who attacked him into smithereens. We seem to shop for groceries on the same schedule, and each of these frequent chance encounters turns into a discussion of matters political. Actually, he starts the ball rolling by asking me one question or another in a tone that respects my expertise, seducing me into unleashing long tirades of opinion that I usually have the good sense to reserve for the paying customers.

“Do you think Romney can win?”

The first time he asked that one I shared with him the analysis by Dick Morris that shows that 7 to 8 out of every 10 undecided voters in midyear polls wind up going against the incumbent. He figures the logic for that is they know the incumbent already and if they tell the pollster they are undecided, that is their reticent way of communicating that they are not too thrilled with the fellow in office.

He asked me a variation on that question the next time and the time after that. The other day was about the fourth version: “If you had to predict right now who would win the election… if you had to bet right now on the election… do you feel that there is a definite chance…?” He was polite enough to stay in the role of questioner, but I could hear his opinion screaming to be released from confinement.

“What do you think of Romney’s chances?” I asked, breaking the cardinal rule of the columnist: Never let your readers turn you into their therapist.

Finally someone wanted to know what Joe thought and he was only too happy to tell. “I don’t believe this country is ready to elect a Mormon. I spend a lot of time with members of different Christian denominations and to hear them speak about Mormonism is a real education. They hate it; they don’t consider it real Christianity; they look at it as a cult.”

My rejoinder to this was that all of those prejudices have been buried forever. We already elected a Catholic President, a Jewish Vice President (although the technicality of the Electoral College prevented him from serving despite getting a half-million more votes), a couple of Southern Baptists and who knows what all. No one is voting for the guy they don’t believe in because the guy they do believe in believes in things they don’t believe in.

Walking away afterwards, I realized a point I had missed throughout the primary season. Namely, that Romney being a Mormon turns out to be a big asset for him in this particular election. The hardest part for a lot of the Independents in rejecting Obama is the feeling they had four years ago that they were doing something beautiful for the image of American tolerance by voting for this guy. They were, although it came at a high price, bringing a volcanic flow of molten collegiate abstraction down on the guys at the bottom of the mount listening to the sermon.

Now they need a competing narrative, these indie types do. It has to be a win-win, where they get to be nice guys both times. They need a woman or a Hispanic or an American Indian or someone in a wheelchair or… eh? A Mormon you say? A fellow whose grandfather had to run to Mexico because he was persecuted here? That will do.

So, my friends, it is time to make history, to show once again how open-minded and good-hearted and broad-minded and big-hearted we are. Yes, there has been a tragic history of mistreatment of Mormons in this country. They were viciously murdered as they made their scary trek from New York westward, finally settling in Utah mainly because there was no one else there. It is time to make up for this sorry chapter in our history, to right a wrong we committed against a beleaguered minority.

There are other reasons too, like the fact that this guy specializes in fixing messed-up budgets with big deficits. But this is no time to think selfishly. It is time for apologies and reparations. As for Obama being laid off, there is no need to fret. I hear Joe Biden has a shovel-ready job for him.

Let's all keep our heads and wits about us.

If Romney wins, that is of course a good thing, even a very good thing, considering the alternative.

But it will not mean we're out of the woods, not by a long shot. No sighs of relief, please.

We'll still be living in a country that once elected a Barack Obama to the government's highest office. Think on it. That won't go away overnight on Election Day.

Purp| 5.18.12 @ 8:12AM

Especially since Richie's plans will add more to the national debt and will not create jobs. He just wants power, since he is one of the entitled Elite, he believes he deserves it.

chuck| 5.18.12 @ 8:25AM

Actually, that's your "Messiah", President Bull-$hit, that you're talking about.

Still claiming you got a PhD?

Purp| 5.18.12 @ 9:03AM

You haven't really looked at his budget plans have you? Why not learn something before spouting.
Oh, yes I have a PhD, JD, MD, LLB, ABC, MOUSE degrees ... what have you got?

chuck| 5.18.12 @ 10:25AM

Got a set of Mickey ears to go with your M-O-U-S-E degree?

Purp| 5.18.12 @ 10:39AM

It's sarcasm, Chuckles... good grief are you dense? So what degree have you got? You didn't answer the question...

Why don't we elect Perp for President? We haven't had a troll yet for Prezzy. We could have Prezzy Perpy.

Occam's Tool| 5.18.12 @ 10:49AM

Purp, I have an MD degree. You don't.

Occam's Tool| 5.18.12 @ 10:51AM

Well, Purp, considering that NANCY PELOSI didn't vote for Obama's budget, and neither did HARRY REID, that kind of tells you something, eh?

Oldefarte| 5.20.12 @ 11:21AM

WHAT BUDGET????????

Oldefarte| 5.18.12 @ 1:09PM

If you have all of those degrees, then WHY ARE YOU SO STUPID?????????

Oldefarte| 5.18.12 @ 1:12PM

Considering all of your stated degrees, there's an old saying of IF YOY'RE SO SMART, WHY AREN'T YOU RICH??????????

TLP| 5.19.12 @ 6:51AM

You're letting him get to you.

Oldefarte| 5.19.12 @ 4:24PM

I'll bet he's also a teacher, and that HE TEACHES ENGLISH!!!!!!!!

Von Mises Jr| 5.18.12 @ 10:47AM

So your Perp today. Why don't you throw in a few comments by Brooksie, DRed or twitvin?
We know your socialist trick of using multiple names, troll. Soros wouldn't pay you the going rate of $20 per hour unless you could be at least four trolls at once. $5 bucks an hour is more your speed.

Have you found the law review article written and published by Obama that members of law review write?
Keep looking and report back.

RCV| 5.18.12 @ 1:24PM

Speaking from experience, I will tell you that members of law review do not generally write attributable articles. They may pen an unsigned case note, but their main job is reviewing and editing and cite-checking articles written by law professors and distinquished others. This is even more so of law review manging editors and editors-in-chief. They are largely administrators and supervisors. I know. I was one.

W| 5.18.12 @ 2:11PM

Speaking from my experience, everyone on my Law Review wrote and published an article, especially the editor. Everyone was selected on grades, and not voted in for popularity.
I understand Obama was president and not editor in chief, or an editor to review and edit.

Von Mises Jr| 5.18.12 @ 2:15PM

Did Perpy write anything when he got his JD? Perhaps some peer reviewed work from his PhD?
Perhaps the Medical Journals in his specialty in Medicine?
Maybe he wrote for a local paper's comic strip? All he has to do is try to be serious.

RCV| 5.18.12 @ 11:40PM

I don't think you went to Harvard or Stanford, then, W. The articles in first-tier law Schools are not student pieces.

W| 5.19.12 @ 7:16AM

I did not. Everyone on our Law Review wrote an article, then the editors selected some of the student articles for publication.
There were articles by professors and students. I made a mistake in saying all the students' articles were published. Everyone wrote but not all were published. There may have been one student from Philly who did not complete his article on time.
Most of the students' were case notes, some expanded to case comments, and the professors or others had the headline articles.

But everyone selected for Law Review was selected on grades and not elected. I read Obama was elected as president of law review. We did not have a president but an editor in chief who was #1 in class based on grades.

I would assume if Obama was on law review in some capacity he would have written a case note or case comment. Do you know if he did and if it was submitted for publication or published?

W| 5.19.12 @ 7:51AM

P.S
Harvard Law Review does publish student written case notes and comments, like every other law review. I was using the word article generically to include all written for law review.

This is from the Harvard Law Review:

"The Review publishes articles by professors, judges, and practitioners and solicits reviews of important recent books from recognized experts. All articles—even those by the most respected authorities—are subjected to a rigorous editorial process designed to sharpen and strengthen substance and tone.

Most student writing takes the form of Notes, Recent Cases, Recent Legislation, and Book Notes. Notes are approximately 22 pages and are usually written by third-year students. Recent Cases and Recent Legislation are normally 8 pages long and are written mainly by second-year students. Recent Cases are comments on recent decisions by courts other than the U.S. Supreme Court, such as state supreme courts, federal circuit courts, district courts, and foreign courts. Recent Legislation look at new statutes at either the state or federal level. Book Notes, also written by second-year students, are brief reviews of recently published books.

Student-written pieces also appear in the special November and March issues. The November issue contains the Supreme Court Foreword, usually by a prominent constitutional scholar, the faculty Case Comments, and about 20 Leading Cases—analyses by third-year students of the most important decisions of the previous Supreme Court Term—and a compilation of Supreme Court statistics. The March issue features the annual Developments in the Law project, an in-depth treatment of an important area of the law prepared principally by second-year editors of the Review. All student writing is unsigned. This policy reflects the fact that many members of the Review, besides the author, make a contribution to each published piece.

This is the same for most law schools.

Did Obama write anything for Law Review?

RCV| 5.19.12 @ 12:25PM

Don't know, for him or any other HarvardnLaw student because, as I said and the Law Review policy you quote confirms, "All student writing is unsigned. This policy reflects the fact that many members of the Review besides the author make a contribution to each published piece.". As President of the Review, Obama would have had ultimate responsibility for reviewing, final editing and judging of each student piece.

Oldefarte| 5.19.12 @ 4:27PM

Just like he editorally allowed Ayers to write DREAMS, huh??????

RCV| 5.19.12 @ 5:57PM

Only in your fertile imagination, Oldfarte.

Calvin| 5.20.12 @ 11:29AM

RCV can always find a pile of vomit to return to.

Oldefarte| 5.20.12 @ 11:29AM

No, that's been written by numerous sources [as in a book by Denish something or other]......look it up DA!!!!!!!

W| 5.20.12 @ 11:15PM

Stanford Law Review also published articles by students:
"The Stanford Law Review was organized in 1948. Each year the Law Review publishes one volume, which appears in six separate issues. Each issue contains material written by student members of the Law Review, other Stanford law students, and outside contributors, such as law professors, judges, and practicing lawyes."
This is from the Law review website.
Why did you say Harvard and Stanford and other schools do not publish articles (or case notes and case comments) by students when they do? I was surprised because every law review I have ever read has articles by students. By articles I include case notes and case comments. As an editor didn't you edit sudent articles?

Occam's Tool| 5.21.12 @ 12:20AM

I'm sorry, RCV, wouldn't that be the Editor of the Review who had final say? The President of Law Review was elected, and largely ceremonial, I thought.

Oldefarte| 5.20.12 @ 11:25AM

Word has it also that Ayers wrote DREAMS....shazam!!!!!!!

Oldefarte| 5.20.12 @ 11:27AM

But at least he did write his own bio that was published by the literary agency, that described him as ......BORN IN KENYA!!!!!!!!

Oldefarte| 5.18.12 @ 1:07PM

No, it debt enhancement was the issue, we should stick with our H&C Savior, who has tripled the debt of the previous administration in only three short years. No, the fact that it's now being reported that he was born in Kenya and if true, is illegally our POTUS; the debt/defecit previously mentioned; the non-production of our domestic oil when we desperately depend upon same; the turning a blind-eye to immigration enforcement to further his election benefits; the attempted slaughtering of seniors to the benefit of snot-nosers over healthcare; the corrupted political maneuvers of using the Justice Dept, FBUI etc as a political weapon; the selling our ally Israel down the drain to benefit his Arab countries; the wasting of taxpayers' money on asinine environmental non-profitable, worhtless issues; etc. The list goes on and on, and Romney will be our next POTUS in January!!!!!!!

Alan Brooks| 5.18.12 @ 1:29PM

First you say Mormonism isn't Christianity, and now you are doing a 180?

Von Mises Jr| 5.18.12 @ 2:16PM

Comon Perp, you can't hide by changing your login to Bootsie.

Al Adab| 5.18.12 @ 2:29PM

Wait until the DEM attacvk machine starts in on Mormon theology and the role of women.

Aside from that the dissapopintment we Conservatives feel watching as the GOP nominates another accomodationist "moderate" is more than we can bear. How many times do we have to follow them to defeat before the party learns? Will Mitt disavow what George said and did to Conservatives in '64? Sorry, we elephants have long memories.

Oldefarte| 5.20.12 @ 11:32AM

Already have .....as in having a lesbian adopter of two state that his wife NEVER WORKED A DAY IN HER LIFE [yeah, she just raised ''''5'''' sons]....what BS!!!!!

Alan Brooks| 5.19.12 @ 3:06PM

"seducing me into unleashing long tirades of opinion that I usually have the good sense to reserve for the paying customers."

Interesting choice of words- sounds almost as if Homnick is a hooker. A journalist-whore, perhaps?

Oldefarte| 5.19.12 @ 4:30PM

No, but your numerous quarters [$.25's] define you as a.....TWO BIT WHORE!!!!

Alan Brooks| 5.21.12 @ 2:54AM

But not you: you are too ugly- only the blind man in the bleachers would do you.

Bubba Shawn| 5.20.12 @ 3:00PM

Liberal Romney = Liberal Obama. Romney's other problem is that he is a serial liar. He can't remember what he says from one week to the next. Also, Like John Kerry, "I was for - fill in the blank" before "I am for - fill in the blank".

Appleby| 5.18.12 @ 6:58AM

Not voting for Romney. After seeing what happens when we elect someone while papering over his delusions, I have no desire to be ruled by someone who believes that when he dies, he will be promoted to God, will create his own planet, and he and his harem of wives will spend eternity begetting worshippers for himself.

Of course, it's veyr likely that Romney's delusions will receive far more exposure than those Obama cherishes, because Romney's are held by a putative Republican. But if we can once get past the hordes of nominal Christians and ignoranti who insist that the LDS religion is "no big deal" -- just as they insist upon telling us about the Muslim religion -- and investigate just exactly what's going on at the foundation of Mitt Romney's world view, it may spark a national dialogue about why we need to start picking candidates whose background fits the American idea of Normal. Or next time we'll have some kind of transgendered candidate that everyone will feel obligated by the tremendous pressure of Nanny to install in a position that will finish off the country in a storm of revolution.

In other words, we need to nip this Miss Americafication of the Presidency before it swamps the whole shebang.

TLP| 5.18.12 @ 7:21AM

All this time, I thought that you were just OLD and CONFUSED.

But, that's not it, at all.

You're actually a Fckng Dumbass.

Lassies and Gentlemen. Madame Appleby is the EXACT PERSON I'm talking about, below.

She's ready to Condemn ALL OF US to 4 More Years of this Ccksckr, because this Stupid Old Bag can't get her way.

I don't know how old you are?

But, I'm thinking, after you dumbsh*t comment, that you've long since Outlived your Usefulness.

If you'll put down your address, I'll be happy to send you a Copy of FINAL EXIT.

I'll even Autograph it for you.

Appleby| 5.18.12 @ 7:31AM

Does your Mommy know you're playing with her computer? And didn't anybody tell you that an outburst of name-calling proves you have run out of arguments?

I know you are dying to pass a law forcing people to vote for the candidate of your choice -- you are clearly what Robert Heinlein termed "A man of desperate sincereity" who believes that your ideas are so vital that it's worth any amount of force and violence to get those ideas and the folks you think espouse them enacted into law. But that trick never works, as the current incumbent proves all too well. Lurching from the frying pan into the fire is not the only choice we have. Even if you could make it "Vote for Romney Or I'll Kill You and Burn Your House To The Ground and Sow Salt In The Ruins", electing another delusional being President is not going to solve any of the things that are wrong with America. Five days after you crown Romney king, you'll be shrieking for someone to get rid of him.

I am old enough to have seen this show before, and I know much better than you do that my betrayal of my core beliefs would not add one scintilla of hope and change to America's path out of the Great Depression. That's going to take much more than changing the face in the Rose Garden.

And I'm also old enough to not change my vote because somebody I'll never meet thinks I am a poo poo head.

TLP| 5.18.12 @ 8:44AM

He's not "My Candidate" you Stupid Old Bag. He's the Candidate that's running against the POS MFer who's pulling us down in to the Abyss.

Are you Old Enough to understand THAT? You seem to think that you're Old Enough to know a lot of things, so think about this: Maybe you're TOO Goddamn Old? Maybe your mind is starting to Slip Away. Maybe you FORGET that sometimes we have to choose between something we don't agree with, and ABSOLUTE EVIL.

Obviously, you're too Stupid to figure that out.

Maybe your mind keeps slipping back to all those nights you were Passed Around at the Frat Houses, in Raleigh Durham, after all the Big Games?

Like I said, before.

I'll send ya the Book.

Occam's Tool| 5.18.12 @ 10:56AM

Dear Appleby: Neither TLP nor I supported Romney before he won the nomination. However, Obama is sui generis evil. John Tyler and Franklin Pierce might be better candidates than this man. That's kind of the point. To put it bluntly, Obama started his career in the home of a couple of terrorists, has a pastor who was a former Black Muslim and is as evil as they come, purchased his home with the help of a felon (in the real estate area), has numerous aides and people appointed to power in his administration who are avowed Communists, and wants to destroy American power.

Romney is a middle of the road schlub. That's much better.

You are, of course, always entitled to your opinion.

'.....Breitbart.com ....Ron Paul, Sheila Jackson Lee Agree: Civilian Courts for Terrorist by AWR Hawkins 1 day ago Treating terrorism like a crime instead of an act of war is not a good idea, and the public knows it. Thus, when Attorney General Eric Holder wanted to treat it like crime and try KSM in New York, the American people expressed outrage. Everyone except the died-in-the-wool Clinton sycophants knew that Bill Clinton spent his presidency treating terrorism like crime, and what did we get? We got 9/11.
Nevertheless, an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act, being pushed by Reps. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) and Adam Smith (D-Wash.), promises to give foreign terrorists held by the U.S. access to civilian courts within the U.S., instead of military tribunals. Moreover, the amendment would not only “implement an unprecedented reversal in longstanding U.S. policy by requiring that terrorists be prosecuted in civilian courts… [but] would also allow them to be housed among general inmates in American prisons.”Perhaps the most important thing to note in this legislative discussion is is that Reps. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) and Ron Paul (R-Texas) support it. If you write a piece of legislation dealing with foreign policy and either of these two titans sign on, you know you’ve made a mistake.
The bottom line: Legal rights for terrorists is never a good idea, for it goes against the grain of common sense and it runs counter to legal precedent and military tradition in this nation. It is also an affront to our brave troops who risk life and limb to capture these combatants and bring them to justice......'

Clint| 5.20.12 @ 9:52AM

Now, The Rest Of The Story.

" Rep. Ron Paul has joined the next battle over terrorism-detainee rules.

The Texan made a surprise appearance at a House press conference in support of a bipartisan amendment to the defense authorization bill, which hits the House floor today, that would ban indefinite and military detention of anyone captured on U.S. soil, regardless of citizenship.

“I do not believe a republic can exist if you permit the military to arrest American citizens and put them in secret prisons and be denied a trial,” Paul argued.

The amendment, cosponsored by House Armed Services Committee ranking member Adam Smith, D-Wash., and Rep. Justin Amash, R-Mich., with the support of Rep. John Garamendi, D-Calif., promises to reopen the decade-long debate over whether to prosecute terrorism suspects in federal civil courts or within the military…

Paul, with just a bit less fire than he showed in this year’s presidential debates, asserted that if 9/11 planner Khalid Sheik Mohammed had been tried the same way the World Trade Center bombing terrorists were tried in 1994, he could have received a death-penalty conviction “10 years ago.”

“The system works; we should not be so intimidated,” Paul said. “This cannot stand.”

Oldefarte| 5.20.12 @ 1:51PM

He's still in bed with that PIG, putz. You can attempt denial all you want, it doesn't erase facts. It ain't 'the rest of the story', it's THE ONLY STORY!!!!

W| 5.18.12 @ 11:09AM

Does it make you feel good and somehow superior
to tell us every day that you are not voting for Romney and therefore helping to elect Obama?
Why do you believe you have to tell us every day that you cannot bring yourself to vote for Romney ?

Appleby| 5.18.12 @ 12:33PM

No, it makes me feel that I'm back in the days when even my mother blamed me for Jimmy Carter's election because I voted for Roger MacBride. Jimmy Carter's presidency was not the end of the world; in fact, it led to Ronald Reagan's presidency, which I remember quire well was good for the country right from the day the electoral college gave him the thumbs up.

I will not vote for a person I cannot support, no matter how many hysterical ninnies assure me that life on earth will end otherwise. If Romney's margin is so slim that my voting for him will make all the difference, he doesn't have enough support to govern if he does get elected, and within three or four months everyone who voted for him will hate him.

I tell people that I cannot vote for Romney in hopes that some other people who are being intimidated by bullies trying to force them to violate their consciences will take heart and stand firm. Perhaps next time the Republicans will nominate somebody we can support, if we refuse to support whatever nudnik they shove in our faces.

It used to be said in America that one man and his conscience was a majority. Now it appears that this concept has been replaced by a de facto lynch mob.

Jane| 5.18.12 @ 12:49PM

Your conscience isn't telling you this, your hard and impenitent heart is. You are in a majority of SOME, who are imbeciles.

W| 5.18.12 @ 12:51PM

You are wrong.
Jimmy Carter was a disaster that we are still living with.
First, Jimmy gave us the Dept of Energy and Education. No need to explain the increase in the nanny state caused by two more Cabinet Depts issuing regulations. Every Republican running and conservative on this site now says we have to eliminate agencies and depts. Guess what, we still have those two depts, and we would not have them if Carter would have remained in Georgia growing peanuts.
Second, Jimmy's inspired leadership resulted in the Shah of Iran being abandoned by us, and Khomeni taking over. You do remember the hostages?
Iran has been the center of the terrorrism since 1979, and no need to explain how that has worked out.
So, go ahead, feel smug and sanctimonius with your daily anti-Romney diatribe. You have something against Mormons that explains your obsession with Romney?
I don't care who you vote for, but do care that we have to read you daily obsession with Romney.
You are helping Obama. Do you understand that?

TLP| 5.18.12 @ 8:15PM

Roger MacBride?

You're even STUPIDER than I thought.

W| 5.18.12 @ 8:35PM

She meant Roger Rabbit.

Jack in Wi.| 5.18.12 @ 11:33AM

Appleby is the only sane one commenting here. How do you attack the so-called Muslim with the even more delusional Mormon? Both these guys stink to high heavens and it isn't just about their religion.

Jane| 5.18.12 @ 1:06PM

Thus sayeth the anti-semitic whack-job extraordinaire.

W| 5.18.12 @ 1:15PM

If Jack agrees with you, then it is time to reconsider you position.

Alan Brooks| 5.18.12 @ 1:37PM

If you really really want Romney, then perhaps with all the support such as yours- and more- he will be elected in November. But will it do you any more good than Bush's election did in 2000 and '04??

W| 5.18.12 @ 2:12PM

It will do better than to have Obama.

Alan Brooks| 5.18.12 @ 2:15PM

But in the '90s you underestimated Clinton.

W| 5.18.12 @ 2:36PM

Neither Bush 41 or Dole would have passed up the chance to capture Osama. Both would have done more than Clinton to respond to the 1993 attack on the WTC, the bombings of our embassies in Kenya, the Khobar Towers, the USS Cole.
And they certainly would have not disgraced the White House and Presidency by sexually harassing women.
Actually, I overestimated Clinton. I did not believe he would be as bad as he was.
He had two good years when the Republicans took the House in 1994 and forced him to balance the budget and reform welfare. He did it upon the advice of Dick Morris so we would win in 1996.

Alan Brooks| 5.18.12 @ 4:40PM

He had two good years when the Republicans took the House in 1994 and forced him to balance the budget and reform welfare. He did it upon the advice of Dick Morris so we would win in 1996."

'Reform' welfare means it grows larger.

WISCONSIRAN| 5.18.12 @ 7:19PM

How do you keep your identities separate?

Do you ever mistakenly put '786' after 'Jack'?

Do you intentionally butcher the spelling and grammar in your posts or do you not know any better?

Do you intentionally reveal 'tells' or are you not aware of them?

SC Mike| 5.18.12 @ 7:21AM

Exquisitely argued! Why elect a cultist whose personal actions and political beliefs embody American values when we can reward with four more years in office a guy who’s diligently worked to tear all that down?

Purp| 5.18.12 @ 8:19AM

"tear all that down" ? A family man, good husband, promotes education, hard work, a strong defense, a strong middle class and equal rights for all - and you say President Obama doesn't promote American values? What America are you from? Certainly not the United States of America.

chuck| 5.18.12 @ 8:34AM

How can Pres. BS promote hard work when he is doing everything to suppress job creation?

And don't give me that standard liberal line "we were losing 750,000 jobs a month, annd he saved the economy from total collapse". There was no way that job loss rate was going to continue. What happened to the $700 billion stimulus? The job market is awful, unemployment is still high, and the number of jobs is less than it was many years ago.
And Asshole is going to run on this? No wonder he wants to talk about same-sex marriage!

Purp| 5.18.12 @ 9:21AM

Because you're wrong about job suppression. 4 million jobs have been created since he took office. You need to look at what he has done, has been stopped from doing by your buddies in Congress and what he still wants to do. Apparently, you haven't. Sean Hannity and Rush are your news anchors, are they?
The stimulus stopped the slide into further Depression, but should have been bigger. Economists agree on that, and so does the CBO. You would know that too, if you studied the charts and graphs and read economists reports. Job market is awful because it is DEPRESSED. That's what a depression is, even though it isn't as bad as the 1930's, I suspect that is because of Unemployment Insurance, Food Stamps, Social Security, Medicare - ya know, the Social Safety Net that was put in place to stop the suffering that happened during the Great Depression - and it worked for us.
But you can blame the ones who allowed the crash to happen - and you can see that Chase is still able to bet like a casino - it could still happen again, thanks to the R's watering down the Dodd-Frank bill we desperately need to regulate these banking fools.
If we had continued the proper regulations of financial institutions, they would have worked too, and we would be far better off.
Richie's plans will not lead to jobs, anymore than GW Bush's jobless recovery in the 2000's did. More debt, no jobs ... what a future - oh, but we will recognize Mormonism as a premier religion - count on it if Richie is elected. We'll all have to buy magic underpants I suppose and tithe to the Mormon Tabernacle.

Occam's Tool| 5.18.12 @ 10:57AM

4 million jobs have NOT been created. The bozo counts jobs "saved" whatever the hell that means. Purp, you know nothing and think even less.

Try NOT being a religious bigot. I like Mormons, and would be happy if my daughter married one.

Purp| 5.18.12 @ 11:51AM

Nope - you can count them each month - almost a million this year alone. Perhaps you should start counting. "Saved" comes from understanding what the Recovery Act funds accomplished. let's keep the facts straight - but then you don't listen to truth do you?

Nothing wrong with Mormons as people - just don't need one as president. Romney has never said why Mormonism would not impact his presidential decisions. That is scary.

max_kain| 5.18.12 @ 2:34PM

Wow, that was the equivalent of "nothing wrong with blacks, everyone should own one" or "some of my best friends are ". According to your views, Mormons are ok, just as long as they don't get uppity and try and get above themselves. That's the view of many in the south during Jim Crow laws. It's good to see that racism didn't go away, it just evolved...

W| 5.18.12 @ 11:12AM

Purp
I think you are wrong.
Obama created over 5 trillion jobs. NO, wait that is a 5 trillion deficit.
The only job Obama created is you posting here by whoever is desperate enough to pay you for you simplistic cliches.

Purp| 5.18.12 @ 11:53AM

Nope - you can count them each month - almost a million this year alone. Perhaps you should start counting. "Saved" comes from understanding what the Recovery Act funds accomplished. let's keep the facts straight - but then you don't listen to truth do you?
See my post above for links to make you seethe.

canuckistani| 5.18.12 @ 2:47PM

Purp, don't bother.
These people, yes the general "these", are the same as the hillbilly asked if he would like to be Michael Jordan with his fame and fortune. His reply: "Would I have to be black?". Yes, "then no thanks".

Willard's grandpappy was a polygamist as was BHO's. The difference being Willard's grandpappy specifically fled the US to avoid persecution - he abandoned the greatest country on earth for a vanity project and some mystical Smithian pretense.

Willard's pappy was born in Mexico, BHO's in Kenya. Under the new math on here, neither Willard nor BHO are natural born citizens, but BHO still gets the perpetual colonoscopy.

Curious.

Having BHO imbued by a black liberation theology he was neither a leader nor an evangelist of, is far more preferred than being imbued by the Mormon cultist secrecy that is led by and underwritten by Willard. See Tom Cruise and Scientology for the relevance.

I pray Recketts (?) takes the bait and alienates Chicagoans completely and opens the door to religious scrutiny.

The Mormon examination will be amusing and thrilling at the same time.

W| 5.18.12 @ 3:13PM

Is this the Dem attack on the Mormon religion of Romney? Being a Mormon is worse than attending Rev Wright' anti semitic, anti American church for 20 years?

You really want to match Romney's personal life with Obama, and his terrorrist pals Ayers, crooks like Rezko, anti semites like Wright?

Even Wright has turned on Obama. Says he did not convert from Muslim to Christianity. Still a Muslim. And Obama offered hims $150,000 to shut up during the 08 election.

If this is the best you have, I am now more convinced it will be a Romney landslide with a Republican congress.

But you may have convinced Purp.

SK| 5.18.12 @ 8:39AM

Ryan| 5.18.12 @ 8:41AM

What policies of Obama's promote hard work?

Purp| 5.18.12 @ 9:25AM

Policies? What policies? The government doesn't mandate hard work. You want the government to mandate that? Seriously?
That is an American value that President Obama promotes in his speeches and writings.

Ryan| 5.18.12 @ 1:28PM

I didn't say "mandate." I said "promote." And the President's policies go directly against the values that he supposedly promotes in his speeches and writings.

canuckistani| 5.18.12 @ 3:11PM

BHO is in favor of taxing work and wealth equally. That's enough for me to prove he believes actually doing something should not be penalized on the 1040. He has taught, written books and actually worked for his money. Provide me an example of Willard has done in the last 30 years that constitutes work excluding one term as governor?

States have gutted state college subsidies and baggers want Pell grants gassed. BHO has defended these investments as obvious needs for the country.

BHO, more than any president since Truman has endorsed additional resources for veterans and returning GIs. The GOP? Cut something and we'll talk. Support our troops is just a punchline to baggers.

The real contributers to the fabric of society are losing the game and the baggers on here are applauded for their activism, but they are way off target.

Paul Kotik| 5.18.12 @ 10:42AM

See my comment above. Even after a Romney win in November, we are still a country with a significant sub-population of people like this. This is a long-term existential threat.

It's almost as if the Soviets actually won the Cold War, isn't it? Purp's comments read exactly like something Whittaker Chambers would have planted in the press when he was an active Soviet agent.

Purp| 5.18.12 @ 11:55AM

That's all you got .. lame, retired, Soviet-era hysteria? You really don't understand how far right you are, do you?

He doesn't understand the corporate welfare state is above and beyond any Marxist theory.

Basics like health care and education are not Marxist theories, they are modern services we all pay for and not seeking a system of lowest cost and best outcomes is sheer lunacy. You cannot convert someone to rational thinking if they cannot even see this truism.

It is funny All media is generous to Rmoney's c.ul.t than President Obama's Christian church. Really makes me wonder WHY!

The media spent months in 2008 relentlessly pursuing a story about Barack Obama's church and his religious beliefs but for some reason, Mitt Romney's faith and church are off limits?

All repubs just ignore that fact that Bush (not a good one) tanked the economy so bad for 8 years like it was irrecoverable.

Rmoney has No Concerns for the middle class and poor people.
Rmoney has No Concerns for Women's rights.

RCV: No. They. Don't. Allah has distinct differences in outlook and commndments than G-d. They are monotheists, yes. It is not the same one.

RCV| 5.19.12 @ 8:58PM

Allah simply means God, Occam, as you know. And yes, Islamic views of God differ in some respects from Jewish ones, just as Christian views of God's commandments and outlook differ markedly from Orthodox Judaiism. But anyone who studies the histories of the great monotheistic religions and reads the Torah and the Gospels and the Qu'ran knows that they share the same germ in the stories of how the one God came to Abraham and commanded worship of Him solely. Karen Armstrong's work have shown in detail how Muhammed believed that in conveying the stories of the God of Abraham's creation of the world, the courageous leading by Moses of the Jews from Israel, the miraculous virgin birth of Jesus to Mary, he was not bringing a new religion to the Arab people, but revealing the same religion to them as had been revealed to the Jews by the early prophets, and to the Gentiles by the followers of Christ.

Do I believe that story got corrupted in transmission? You bet. Do I believe that Muhammed's rejection by the Jews of Medina and Mecca instilled in him a virulent hatred that has corrupted his followers to this day? You know I do. Am I saddened at how this misguided faith has fallen even further since its heydey in Andalusian Spain? Boy, am I ever. But is the one true God the focus of each of the three Abrahamic faiths. Undeniably.

Orthodox non-Wahhist and non-Islamicist Muslims share far, far more with Orthodox Israeli Jews than either do with you or I. That's just a simple fact.

Oldefarte| 5.20.12 @ 2:01PM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3BqLZ8UoZk

Mormons trust the book of M.oro.n, Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price, Journal of Discourses over the Bible or even US Constitution.

Here is the SOLID proof of what Mitt Romney said Recently.
"I happen to believe that the Constitution was not just brilliant but probably inspired. I believe the same thing about the Declaration of Independence."
Rmoney ridiculed Constitution of the United States of America right there.

Rmoney keeps sending coded signals of Mormon ambition of US government take-over to his fellow Mormons with quotations from the the Book of Mormon, and references to Mormon history.

Just with the example of Mountain Meadows massacre,
Mormons would listen to their prophet and follow whatever orders from Mormon Cult over US Constitution.
Why or how did Mountain Meadows massacre happen? and Mormons will always say, "It has nothing to do with Mormons."

Here is the weblink of their confession from Mormon descendants.
http://1857massacre.com/

Mormons fled to Mexico abandoning US just to practice polygamy in the first place FOR PETE'S SAKE and that part of Mexico became Utah of US. hahaha
There are so many proofs Mormons would listen to their prophet and follow orders from Mormon Cult over US Constitution.

Mormons always say, "why so much Mormon bashing?"
Actually, People make fun of all other cults, too.
Do you ever hear Catholics priests complaining about their reputation? Hell, NO.

The answer is other cult like Scientology tends to stick with their Alien Story and collect money from people, they never pretend to be Christian and Not quite interested in Taking Over the United States of America!

These are what Mo.rm.on presidents said. This is the TRUTH that Mormon is rac.ist cult.
"There is a reason why one man is born black and with other disadvantages, while another is born white with great advantages."

Dear Appleby,

I agree with your opinion about Rmoney and Mormonism.

First, I am just very shocked that some people still believe President Obama is Musim.

Even Repubs' beloved John McCain said this and made it clear! Yeah, Repubs keep saying it was a "Mistake." lol
"I am confident, with the leadership and the backing of the American people, President OBAMA will turn this country around."
"Obama is not Muslim, and he is a good family man."

I don't understand those American Christians after hearing Mormon teaching.
"God was once a man just like us but became God."
"God had sex with Mary to conceive Jesus."
"ALL other religions are of the Devil including other Christian churches."
"Adam and Eve lived in Missouri."
"The more money you give to Mormon church, you can go to higher layer of Mormon heaven."
"The Elders will save the constitution."

Romney has never talked about "his faith" in public or on camera.
Romney was so scared that Mo.rm.on C.ul.t would be revealed out in the open.

"Racially tinged attacks on Obama are also likely to prompt a focus on Romney's Mormon religion, which has a long history of discrimination against black people."
http://www.guardian.co.uk/worl.....sfeed=true

Other than Mormons will become god and get their own planet to rule with many wives, people really don't know what Mormon is.
They trust the book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price, Journal of Discourses over the Bible.

This is part of their racist cult teaching.
You can't just make this kind of stuff up.

"There is a reason why one man is born black and with other disadvantages, while another is born white with great advantages."
(Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, 1:61, 65-6)

LDS Apostle Bruce R. McConkie furthers this teaching:
"Those who were less valiant in pre-existence and who thereby had certain spiritual restrictions impose on them during mortality are known to us as the negroes. Such spirits are sent to earth through the lineage of Cain, the mark put upon him for his rebellion against God, and his murder of Able being a black skin. . . . Noah's son married Egyptus, a descendant of Cain, thus preserving the negro lineage through the flood. . . . the negro are not equal with other races where the receipt of certain spiritual blessings are concern. . . . " (Mormon Doctrine, 527-28; 1966 orig. ed.).

Brigham Young second President and Prophet:
"You see some classes of the human family that are black, uncouth, uncomely, disagreeable and low in their habits, wild and seemingly deprived of nearly all the blessings of the intelligence that is generally bestowed upon mankind. . . . Cain slew his brother. Cain might have been killed, and that would put a termination to that line of human beings. This was not to be, and the Lord put a mark upon him, which was the flat nose and black skin. Trace mankind down to after the flood, and then another cursed is pronounced upon the same race--that they should be the "servants of servants;" and they will be until that curse is removed; and the Abolitionists cannot help it, nor in the least alter that decree." (Journal of Discourses, 7:290)

"Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will always be." (ibid., 10:110)

The foundation of Mitt Romney's world view is basically Mormon president's orders.

It is true that Mormon cult is very dangerous for America.

J| 5.19.12 @ 10:48PM

Dear Appleby,

I agree with your opinion about Rmoney and Mormonism.

First, I am just very shocked that some people still believe President Obama is Musim.

Even Repubs' beloved John McCain said this and made it clear! Yeah, Repubs keep saying it was a "Mistake."

Meanwhile, it is true I am still a muslim, and as a muslim, it is true I am still worshipping baal - but never mind that, focus on my true record going truly forward.

J| 5.20.12 @ 12:27PM

Dear O,
I actually like Muslim even though most Americans don't.
I think you focusing on your true record going truly forward is good.

I just see big problems with Romney's charater and his cult. That's all.

I know President Obama has made some bad decisions in 3 and a half years, but he has done a good job in my point of view.

I wish you well with your life journey.

Sincerely.

HUH??????????????????????????????

TLP| 5.18.12 @ 7:07AM

If you look around, you see that we've got so many who sound like they're willing to, not only hack off their Nose to spite their face, but Blow off their Heads to spite their Hats.

We didn't get the guy or gal, we wanted.

No sh*t. Get in line. Maybe that's because, nobody threw their hat in the ring.

He's a Mormon, but the Church he goes to is NOT run by a White Hating, Jew Hating, America Hating, Farrakhan Loving, Marxist Pastor. He's never been raised in the Muslim Schools and Mosques of Indonesia, and he's never knelt on his very own Prayer Rug, facing Mecca, and Prayed to a God of Murder. In fact, I also know that he has never told anyone that The Muslim Call to Prayer is the most beautiful sound in the world. And, then go on to RECITE it.

His parents didn't consist of an Atheist/Communist/Whore, and a Muslim/Marxist/Whore Chasing/Drunk, who ran out on his Family, and died Drunk, in a Gutter, in Africa.

His Grandparents weren't Communists. Nor does he have any Mentors, in his Closets, who were Communists or Marxists.

He hasn't surrounded himself with Self Proffessed Marxists, or Communists, or Maoists, or Anarchists, his entire Adult life.

He's not friends with Unrepentant Domestic Terrorists.

He's never been a Coke Head. Never shook down businesses, with the threat of violence, while leading ACORN on Kamikaze Attacks, on the Banks in Chicago.

He's never Taught SAUL ALINSKY Workshops. Never bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia. He's never put any of The Muslim Brotherhood in positions of Power at Homeland Secutity, or the TSA.

Never pissed away $1,000,000,000,000 meant for Shovel Ready Infrastructure Jobs, on Public Sector Union Pals.

Never ran around the World, APOLOGIZING for the United States.

Never Socialized our Health Care, Forged Documents, to put in place an ILLEGAL Drilling Moratorium, Shut Down a Pipeline from Canada, that would have provided a STABLE flow of Oil from a Friendly Ally, never RAN GUNS to the Mexican Drug Cartels, and NEVER had The Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Organization to the White House, for Tea, and $1.5 Billion, Cash.

And, if that's not enough for you?

He's never EATEN his dog.

He just put him on the roof of the Car.

Wake Up. Shut Up.

And, do what needs to be done.

k. bourg| 5.18.12 @ 7:30AM

Tlp, that was a good one.

Purp| 5.18.12 @ 8:24AM

Richie Romney never socialized our healthcare ? Of course he did.
He doesn't represent the United States, so he wouldn't speak for us.
And President Obama is none of those things - who are you describing?

chuck| 5.18.12 @ 8:37AM

"Richie Romney never socialized our healthcare ? Of course he did."

Not mine, don't live in Mass. And he said he would repeal Obamacare.

Good enough for me.

What's your PhD in, shoveling bull-$hit?

Purp| 5.18.12 @ 9:30AM

" He said, he said" ... what he did in Mass he will do to the US. And "he will stand behind what he said, whatever it was". - the guy's a snake that will say anything to get elected - and YOU believe him?
My guy improved the economy, killed Osama Bin Laden, saved the Auto Industry, ended the Iraq War and a dozen other things he has promised to do. Romney contradicts himself in one sentence ... the guy's a LOSER.
You have to swear don't you, can't have enough effect without it I guess.

chuck| 5.18.12 @ 10:17AM

The economy improved? Growth is slowing, from 3% at the end of last year , to 2% now. Job creation is pathetic, doesn't even keep up with population growth, let alone put everyone who lost their jobs back to work. Seal team 6 killed Osama, using information received using techniques developed under Bush. Government Motors is making the Volt. That's really gonna save them. We're still in Iraq, Afghanistan, Gitmo is open. We're $5 trillion deeper in debt. There are less people working, and more on the dole. The only way you can say this Marxist idiot is successful, is if you want to see this country turned into a third-world POS.

Purp| 5.18.12 @ 10:46AM

This is what you think is bad? When the economy was losing -6% GDP when Obama took office? Seriously?
Seal Team 6 did kill Bin Laden - but under Obama's orders, following intelligence techniques, not Bush era torture. Bush didn't do it with all his bravado. He failed, Obama succeeded - it's that simple. You cannot muddy the waters with your made up innuendo and propaganda. But you keep tryin ', you betcha.
GM is making more than the volt - it's #1 in the World again. Because of Obama. We were over 5 Trillion more in debt from Bush - where were you then? Deficits don't matter - ask Reagan. He started it.
The only way you can say your side is successful is if you think we are all serfs at the mercy of the powerful and rich. Do you really think you make more income over the last 30 years of trickle down voodoo economics? The rich and powerful do.

chuck| 5.18.12 @ 11:53AM

Info obtained from waterboarding some raghead led to the courier and his brother, who led them to Osama.

Sorry, purp, you can have your own opinions, but not your own facts.

And I sure do miss Reagan. Times were good, and the money was deep. 20 million jobs were created. Not saved, created, as in there were 20 million more jobs then when he started.

Obama's economy has less jobs than when he started, 3 1/2 years, and trillions of dollars later.

Purp| 5.18.12 @ 12:03PM

I miss Clinton, don't you ? He balanced the budget - Deficit Reagan did not. And created 22 Million jobs .. beat the s* out of Reagan, didn't he?
Bush destroyed the Clinton economy and you still insist on blaming Obama for it. And Bush left office with less jobs than when he started - only president to do that one... Oh, and since you are behind in the news of the day - Obama's unemployment rate is now less (8.1%) than when he took office (8.3%), even though it continued to rise until the stimulus kicked in a few months later. And it's been continual job growth since then and the predicted rate by election day will be in the 7%'s ... Facts are really tough, when you're praying the economy tanks, aren't they? Without the tanking, Romney has no chance. He does "stand behind what he says - whatever that was" - what a fool.

W| 5.18.12 @ 12:58PM

I would take Bubba over Obama. You do know that Bubba called Obama an amateur?

Are you going to find that law review article that Obama should have written and published? Why are you avoiding this question?

Why did Obama release the Lebanese terrorrist in Iraq who had killed American soldiers while disguised as an American soldier. Obama gave him to the Iraquis in 2011 when Obama surrendered and withdrew, and now the Iraquis acquitted the terrorrist. Too much trouble for Obama to try here, would interfere with his golf game?

Since the choice is between a Mormon and a guy whose pastor said "religion is not his thing" I will chose the Mormon every time. Yes, they have weird ideas about the afterlife, but they aren't forcing me to worship their religion or die as the Muslims do. Mormons tend to be polite, financially prudent, modest in their behavior and attire, good workers, pro-life, and good citizens. Obama (whatever religion he claims to be a member of this week) is rude, financially out of control, lazy slug-a-bed, pro-infanticide, America hater. Gosh, it sure is a hard decision as to who to vote for.

Romney for 2012: He isn't a Communist and doesn't eat dog.

The One who is more cerebral than I appear on television. The One whose IQ is off the charts. The One who is the smartest to ever become president. The One who is smart enough to know who those like you are, who are being paid good money from my stimulus, through George, to wage all-out guerilla warfare, to sabotage conservative efforts to prevent me from having the flexibility, after my re-election, to really get things done much better, by executive order, who should know better than to highlight and contrast Mitten's mormonism with my muslim worship of baal. The One who is smart enough to know the God of Jews and Christians would never allow me to get away to with being even sort of God, for even a day. The One who is smart enough to know through baal I can be god of the world, and not just sort of, every day, while destroying the most powerful nation that could possibly prevent me from being god of the world when I am U.N. World Emir for life, after I am done destroying the only nation that can stop me. The One who is smart enough to make you suck any part of me I want you to, not just my huge gigantic balls. The One who is smart enough to know I already have the flexibility to expose what a douche you are, as a not so subtle threat, not just to you, but more importantly to the others who are well paid with my stimulus, through George, so that they will suck whatever I want them to, all while they wage all-out guerilla warfare to sabotage conservative efforts to prevent me from having the flexibility after my re-election to really get things done, by executive order, effectively, unlike ewe. The only way the lib-trolls can get anyone to listen to them is to ridicule, personalize, and indulge in character assassination. Rational discussion doesn't work for them because none of their irrational beliefs can stand the scrutiny of facts and/or logic.

But again, agreed, I've heard more polite conversation at my son's football team's pool party. This board needs moderated and scoured.

One has to wonder if Obama still eats dogs.

Obama: What are we having for dinner tonight hun?

Michelle: Why we're having your favorite, hunan terrier on a bed of rice. And I left the head on it so you can suck the eyeballs.

What a gross thought! But then, when weighing the options, we had best vote for the Morman even though his religous thought is a bit odd. Yes, the mormans were hounded and murdered across the USA. Obama's heritage is as of yet undiscovered because it is sealed from public viewing, except for what we've read on smoke and blow.

Vetted, huh? What were his ACTs, LSATs, SATs. What were his college transcripts? Did he graduate Cum Laude from Harvard, like over 60 % of his class did, by using College of Education classes to pad his grade records? We know jack and shit about this guy.

Romney, on the other hand, was the son of one of the most famous men in the USA. We know a hell of a lot about him. I have a college friend who also attended HLS and knew Mitt personally.

Have you ever asked why he might self-promote himself as BORN IN KENYA for a book publication, then retroactively produce a Hawaiian birth certificate? Do you often wonder why his grades, courses, term papers etc from these colleges are sealed tight from publication and veiew by the public? What might they reveal if so observed????????????

As for his grades and courses from college, please tell me what Sarah Palin's grades and courses at the succession of third-rate colleges that Bimbo attended - what you don't know????? RCV.....ALERT ALERT! :
'....Foreign contributions....Obama’s campaign reports list thousands of donations from donors having overseas addresses, including those in Abu Dhabi, Addis Ababa, Beijing, and Fallujah. A foreign address does not necessarily mean the contributor is a foreign national, because some U.S. citizens live abroad; their political contributions are legal. But precautions are necessary for a campaign to distinguish between U.S. citizens and foreign nationals. Hillary Clinton required Americans living abroad to first fax a copy of their passport before accepting a contribution. John McCain’s online donation page required proof of citizenship. But conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation asserts that the Obama campaign took no such precautions until the FEC questioned its foreign-source contributions, and then merely asked for passport numbers, making no effort to verify those numbers with the State Department to see if they were valid.Suspicions of illegal foreign donations were stoked in part by a June, 2008 speech from Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi, in which he bragged that “people in the Arab and Islamic world and in Africa” were engaged in political contribution campaigns “to enable Obama to win the American presidency.” While much of Gaddafi’s bravado is to be taken with a big block of salt, other circumstances tend to confirm the suspicions. Nigerian press reports described a series of Obama fundraisers sponsored by the head of Nigeria’s stock market that raised nearly a million dollars from Nigerian businessmen. It is unclear whether any of it was traceable to Obama’s campaign.Another red flag for likely foreign contributions is the large number of monetary (not in-kind) contributions in odd amounts. Unless there is a specific promotion using an odd amount as a gimmick (e.g., $20.08), nearly all political contributions are made in round even-dollar amounts. Newsmax reported that the contributions of 37,265 unique donors to the Obama campaign (more than 10 percent of the names the Obama campaign had disclosed) were odd amounts. One explanation for odd-amount contributions, especially those made by credit card, is foreign currency conversion. The Obama campaign responds by attributing the odd amounts to purchases of campaign paraphernalia. I suspect there are a lot of both. Many of these accusations play right into the hands of anti-Obama fear mongers. The case of those who spread the fear that Obama, even if not a Muslim personally, would favor Muslim interests over our own (or Israel’s) would be validated to an extent if Obama’s campaign turned out to be funded by Arab oil cartels and other Middle East financiers, whose contributions are illegal for multiple reasons (foreign source, excessive amount, and perhaps corporate source). If the accusations are false, why not come clean and put the whispering campaign to rest?...'

Occam's Tool| 5.19.12 @ 8:47PM

No. I had a full tuition scholarship. My grandma told me to take the money from the goyim, as we weren't rich. TCU also had, and has, THE best pre-med program in the State of Texas, which has the greatest number of medical school slots in the country. What I did was carefully thought out, as I also had offers from U of Michigan honors Program, West Point was recruiting me, Northwestern was offering me a chance to get my degree in 3 years, Chicago was recuiting me, etc. But I wanted to be a doc, and TCU was the best tool for that specific job. I did not think I was up to the athletic rigors of the Point.

My concern with Obama's grades have to do with the illusion that he is the "smartest man ever to be President," when I KNOW, I absolutely know, that his scores were lower than mine. There's not an academic competition I couldn't pound that poetaster into mush on.

I also know how GPAs can be pumped up at HLS, since I have a good friend who attended within a few years of the one.

Honestly, sincerely, Law School would have been a piece of cake for me, and for most MDs I know.

No one claims Sarah Palin is the world's greatest brain, least of all me. But character is much more important than brains in that position. I strongly doubt Obama's character---I think all of it is low and despicable.

You seem to have a good sense of tribalism instilled by your proud Jewish family that you were trying to make OR feel guilty about. His family should feel proud of him. "that Romney being a Mormon turns out to be a big asset for him in this particular election."

Uh, no. Most of us don't make religion a basis for voting decisions (unless the guy is a radical Moslem). But Mormonism is not one of Romney's assets. And I know it's popular to regard Mormons as a persecuted sect that was forced to go to Spanish or Mexican territory (now Utah). However, a little more reading on the subject may give an idea of why 19th century Americans didn't like Mormons, though that doesn't justify violence against them. Mormons were also not above violence when it suited their purposes (Mountain Meadows Massacre).

And while you're at it, why don't you research CURRENT Mormon prophecies and teachings?

Kathleen Flake, Historian, says that Mormon 'checks & balances' failed them.
In the U.S. (secular gov) there are CHECKS & BALANCES through a "separation of powers", as outlined in the U.S. Constitution. LDS Church Government does not follow this pattern: it never has! There are NO separations, between the 3 types (i.e., branches) of powers: this separation being the hallmark of freedom from tyranny.
"Obey Your Leaders" is still being taught in Mormon Kingdom.

Last word on the subject and then I'm going to lunch:

I live in a country that has no identity save "We're Not Americans."

The Republican Party is running a man for president whose sole platform seems to be "I'm Not Obama."

Maybe Romney should run for PM of Canada instead of President of the United States.

Oldefarte| 5.20.12 @ 10:49AM

If he was BORN IN KENYA, that would qualify him to run for POTUS, no??????

Oldefarte| 5.18.12 @ 1:39PM

Romney will be elected because he is a capitalistic American and he shares our country's values. We made a terrible and costly mistake on 11/4/08, and it [as they say] has come back to BITE US IN THE REAR IN SPADES. We must remedy that mistake if this country is to survive. Romney's religion is an irrelevant and private issue, otherwise we'd be discussion Jeremiah Wright and Black Liberation Theology no doubt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

9thID| 5.18.12 @ 2:36PM

Romney belonging to a cult doesn't really bother me as he is a Mormon In Name Only like Harry Reid. These pols, like Pelosi, Biden, et al., are only "religious" when politically expedient. What scares me about Mitt RomneyCare is that he is Obama-lite, and going by his long Liberal track record, untrustworthy. Besides, he is still non-conservative on free enterprise (e.g. TARP, Socialized RomneyCare), and progressive on social issues and gun control.

Conservatives have witnessed since the 2010 "shellacking" how the GOP Establishment has repeatedly paid lip service to Conservatives when needing votes and money, but then when it comes to crunch time, turned around and stabbed us in the back. The RINO Establishment and their followers have doomed the GOP to become the Whig Party...

He put a lid on the Wright thing because Mormonism does not not need a similar enema. It will reawaken every KJV adherent in America that even Voodoo cults use Christian analogs.

Jeamar| 5.18.12 @ 4:10PM

Many evangelicals , and other Christians for that matter, don't consider Mormons to be Christian. It is ridiculous, even outrageous, for evangelicals to think they are arbiters of who is the "real" Christian or who believes in the "real" Jesus. It has never been necessary for those running for political office to submit to a religious test by evangelicals. (Yes, there were such religious tests in individual colonies before the Declaration.)
Let us concentrate on the cadidate's political policies and leave the determination of religious purity to a higher power.

Vern Crisler| 5.18.12 @ 6:19PM

Don't Mormons have the right to define who is a Mormon?

Vern Crisler| 5.18.12 @ 6:21PM

So, the electoral college is a "technicality"? What other parts of the Constitution do you find as irksome technicalities?

TLP| 5.19.12 @ 7:31AM

I can answer that one.

The requirement that one need be a Natural Born Citizen to be President. Voting only once. And, actually having to live in the State you're Voting in.

David| 5.18.12 @ 4:50PM

What is already bothering me about Romney (my 3rd or 4th choice in the primary) is that he is already reverting back to his old self.

Specifically, in the 2010 cycle is monetarily and vocally supported Tea Party candidates such as Nikki Haley, Marco Rubio, and others.

Romney knew they would return the favor in his primary and they did. They supported him wholeheartedly.

But now that he is the assured candidate, he is failing to supporting anyone in some big contests that are coming up. He is silent when there are true conservatives going up against moderates and outright RINO's.

One in particular is primary candidate for senate in Texas, Ted Cruz. He is supported by Mark Levin and Sarah Palin, just to name two.

WHere is Romney? He is silent. My buddy said that he has to run to the center in the general election. Fine, just not too far. This is not the general for the conservative candidates in their primaries.

The worrisome part is that Romney apparently doesn't feel it is necessary for him to build a coalition of conservatives in the senate. The dems have 23 seats up and repubs have 10 seats up. There is no reason we can't win the senate, and with a sizable margin, AND WITH CONSERVATIVES.

Mitt, get your head out of the middle of the road, AND YOUR ASS.

J| 5.19.12 @ 4:08AM

One and all should be doing their
own background on the links of Mormonism
with 'on the go' 'MAY--SIN--re', and
additional links to the age old Cathar EUGENICS cabal
--esp. as it unfolded in the early part of the
nineteeth century in western New York state.

The Cathars are routinely depicted as a bunch
of sort of New Age spiritual seekers set in
the landscape of intolerant Catholic France.

They were NO such thing, but were, in fact,
very wealthy, even mercantile sorts obsessed
with perfecting 'all that was left imperfect'
via EUGENICS.

They are known to have regarded matter
as base, to have featured orgies as part of the
mix for breeding purposes ----and to have even
engaged in infanticide as something of a ritual
testimony to the futility of the flesh.

They were also caught infiltrating and
attempting to subvert the catholic church
---and this is WHY they were relentlessly
hunted down.

Obviously, some escaped to 'carry on'
elsewhere and by other means.

Back to the history of these 'fringe'
christian sects of the western New York
variety ---

Special attention should be paid to the
founder of the tent show revival con
---Arminian Heretic Charles Finney.

Arminianism itself requires a serious
background check ---as it was, and is,
the open door par excellence for church
destruction.

'The Doctrine of God Works' and self-will,
is the very foot in the door of Luciferian
'benny violence' as we see emanating from
our ever sinister TAX FREE 'charitable'
foundations and NGOs.

Even the background of Jacob Arminus
in Amsterdam reeks of set-up and con.

Indeed.

This truly is the 11th Hour.

"And I saw the BEAST rise from the Sea. And he was given a MOUTH, to speak Haughty and Blasphemous words. And he was allowed to exercise Authority for forty two Months." Revelation 13-5.

Open your eyes. Look at what is happening all over the World. If you're a Christian, you either BELIEVE what the Bible tells you, or you don't.

The Bible tells us that an Army 2,000,000 Strong, will march against Israel. The Muslim Boy, who would be King, has overseen the aquisitions of Egypt and Libya, by his Muslim Brotherhood Brethren. The Islamist Nations have grown in number, under this Deciever's Reign. His true identitiy, locked away in a Vault, on an Island in the Middle of the Pacific Ocean. This Muslim Boy sits on the Throne of the Mightiest Christian Nation the world has ever known, that he might command her forces to do NOTHING, when the time comes.

David| 5.19.12 @ 12:45PM

Below is a paraphrase of what Dr. Robert Jeffress, pastor of first Baptist Church in Dallas (southern Baptist tradition - conservative), about Obama's and Romney's denominations. When traditional Christians get things sooooo wrong, it is not wonder uninformed people are so confused.

He said that he can and will support Romney because although he is a Mormon and NOT a Christian, Romney does live and govern by Biblical principles.

He went further and said, that although Obama IS A CHRISTIAN, he does not follow Biblical principles, and cannot support him prez.

How can this conservative pastor NOT call out Bam Bam on his attendance for almost 20 years in Wright's church. The church is founded on black liberation theology which is anathema to true Christianity just like Mormonism is.

I hope Pastor Jeffress's congregation and deacon board call him out on this ridiculous assertion that Bam Bam IS A CHRISTIAN.

E B | 5.19.12 @ 1:46PM

I completely agree. And now the Brookings Institute Study shows that when people learn more about Mormons than what the media or textbooks or pastors tell them, they're slightly more likely to vote for one. If you happen to be concerned about Romney's faith, I invite you to visit Mormon.org and mormonnewsroom.org, which are great resources for fact-checking or for your own enlightenment.
Thanks for listening.

Oldefarte| 5.20.12 @ 2:16PM

BackToBasics| 5.20.12 @ 4:51PM

OF, he only responded because I am hitting too close to home regarding the Democrat sacred cow of pervasive voter fraud by Democrats. They do not want much attention drawn to this problem.

The fact that in his attack he does not differentiate between my use of the word "doubt" rather than using the word "certain" shows a willful blindness, and an attempt at deflection, on his part regarding the truth of Democrat voter fraud.

Oldefarte| 5.21.12 @ 12:49PM

I'm not familiar with your debate with RCV, but subversives aka Democrats never do answer correctly anything simply beacuse they can't. They have no answers, only the talking points that Emmanuel, Axelrod, Sharpton etc give to them [which is typically crapola], so don't sweat it. Cheers!!!!

You are one messed up mother f@#cker.

Oldefarte| 5.20.12 @ 10:41AM

Amazing! The economy of this country is on the edge of the financial cliff and some people are concerning with religious matters. Shazam!!!!!!

David| 5.20.12 @ 11:45AM

Oldfarte, this country and its government were designed for a moral and religious people.

I cannot exist any other way. If you think the moral decay, both fiscal and social, is not at the root of our current problems, you are mistaken.

We cannot separate social from economic issues anymore than we can divide the bone from the marrow and still survive.

David| 5.20.12 @ 11:46AM

Excuse me, second sentence should read "IT cannot exist any other way".

Oldefarte| 5.20.12 @ 12:09PM

David, you are entirely correct in that this country was founded upon Judeo-Christian principles. However, the maintenance of same should come from the bottom [ie its people], not from the top [ie government]. Government can and should provide an EXAMPLE of morality from its leadership, but it cannot dictate/legislate morality. That has to come from the people, and the problem you correctly site exists because its people are morally corrupt, and they have been historically brainwashed into same from Hollywood and academia liberalism, which has infiltrated our public schools and produced immoral movies and TV programming which has propagandized ignorant adults and especially vernerable children subjected to same. Morality has to come from people returning to church attendance, to avoiding viewership of the filth of Hollywood disguised as entertainment, and to demanding moral benchmarks from these sources. At one time schools taught children educational materials but now are liberalism indroctrinators. At one time Hollywood produced entertainment based on the beauty and art of life and within the world, but not are controlled by extreme liberals bent upon diseminating their filth. We the people have to demand and insure what you wish, and government can only act as an motivator of same. Again, if our economy cannot be rescued and restored by a normal and rational POTUS [the the extremism that currently has captured our government], this country will no longer exist in five years!!!!!

David| 5.20.12 @ 1:03PM

Oldfarte, I appreciate your comments.

However, I have always rejected the idea "that government cannot legislate morality".

Tell me if this makes sense? I will suggest to you that every single law made by government at the local, state, and federal levels IS an attempt to do the RIGHT, the MORAL thing. Whether it is speeding laws (to protect others from the speeders), or DWI laws (again to protect the law-abiding), to laws against rape, murder, assault, battery or any other law IS an attempt by government to tell its citizens what is and is not acceptable behavior. Now, some of those attempts to do what is right or moral are completely misguided such as many environmental laws and when it comes to political correctness.

Nevertheless, government has always told us what is and is not acceptable. Most people accept that. But those same people have a fit when it comes to anything that even comes close to touching on sexual matters.

You were correct to point out the culprits: television, the media, public education, colleges, entertainers, etc.

I was only pointing out that for a traditional Christian like Pastor Jeffress to state that Romney is not a Christian because he is Mormon, and to state that Bam Bam IS a Christian even though he attended a church grounded on black liberation theology, only serves to confuse things. Jeffress should have emphatically stated Bam Bam is not a Christian because Christianity does not and never has recognized black liberation theology as anything other then ANOTHER GOSPEL - JUST LIKE THE MORMONS PREACH.

I guess Jeffress was just being politically correct - Mormons are by and large white while black liberation theology adherents are well...........black. Jeffress did no one any favors by his statement.

Oldefarte| 5.20.12 @ 2:26PM

David, The state-government cannot legislate morality [ie seperation of church and state]. MAN'S LAW however is supposed to follow the NATURAL LAW but does not always do so, ie homosexual marriage. Again, government/POTUS can set examples of morality but cannot legally impose/enforce same [ie Hollywood]; but the people/civilians must act collectively/individually in morally if what I think you want is to come to frusiation. People have gradually abondoned religion in my lifetime and therein lies the problem [ie out-of-wedlock births, drug activity, increased crime, etc]. Religion holds the key to morality, and if/until people return to church and once again begin living a faithful Christian life, no governmental proclamation will be able to force same, sadly!!!!
