No Profile in Courage

Even the New York Times sees through him on this one.

We’ve been hearing a great deal lately about Barack Obama and his courage; or what passes for courage when a lapdog media is in control of its definition. Although I generally pass up most of what comes from the pens of liberal pundits, one couldn’t hide this week from the deluge of presidential paeans.

First up were adoring tributes to the bravery of a man who merely gave the okay to a mission that was years in the making but was actually carried out by truly heroic men who are not usually beloved by the media. Men who, in just a few years, will return home to be treated as possible terror suspects by an Obama Administration who gleaned the benefits of their valor without any commensurate risks. In covering this story, a real show of courage would have been one in which the media expressed just a sliver of curiosity about the details of the bin Laden rubout and disposal at sea.

No sooner did we catch our breath from the giddy bin Laden death celebrations, when, thanks to Joe Biden’s latest case of oral diarrhea, President Obama was able to summon his vast stores of courage to thrill leftists everywhere by coming out of the closet on gay marriage. Now, being a bitter, Christian clinger, I subscribe to the idea that a man will be known by his fruits; and if ever a man’s actions demonstrated overt support for the homosexual agenda, that man is indeed Barack Obama.

His historic snubbing of Congress by refusing to defend the Defense of Marriage Act, his demoralizing politicization of our military by ending “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell,” and probably his most radical and underpublicized act of all, making homosexual “rights” a priority in determining American foreign policy, have spoken for him. And yet, bowing to the cravings of a truly slobbering media, he declared his outright affirmation of homosexual marriage.

Was this announcement historic and unexpected? Yes and maybe. But was it courageous? That would be a resounding no. It was, as are most election-year revelations, simply a case of pandering to his base; as the Washington Post reports, one in six of his campaign “bundlers” are openly homosexual. Even the New York Times admits that “Most Americans suspect that President Obama was motivated by politics.”

Yet it is claimed that he is courageous because blacks, like most of America, are opposed to gay marriage. But in truth, where else would they go? Would Obama’s “courage” on this issue drive them suddenly into the arms of the lily-white Mitt Romney? One would like to think so, but they, like most Americans who allow themselves to be bullied into groupthink, will probably stay with their enablers, just like unfaithful Catholics and Jews who ignore their faith teaching in favor of the allures of liberal popular culture.

And the pressure from our arbiters of culture is growing in desperation. Employing the liberal tactic of using polls to influence opinion rather than track it, they are fond of citing their findings in favor of gay marriage. But polling on the subject is far different from the polling that counts: in the ballot box. How many Americans would actually tell a pollster that they are repulsed by homosexual marriage and shudder to think of their children choosing that “lifestyle”? Yet, voters in 30 states have virtually decided that very thing by amending their constitutions to define marriage as solely between a man and a woman.

And so it might seem that a president’s advocating such an electorally unpopular position would indeed be an act of courage, were it not for one thing: he said he believes that it is an issue to be decided by the states. Funny he doesn’t feel that way about immigration, healthcare or abortion though, but it’s only window-dressing after all. Because it has allowed him to continue to associate himself with the oppressed, and as we all know, those who speak out against Obama now will not only be branded as racists, but hateful homophobes as well.

So no, the president showed no courage here; only cold, political calculation. The only courage on this issue will be demonstrated by those who break free from politically correct thinking and vote on what’s best for America; an America that is hopefully getting sick and tired of this browbeating on the subject of their intolerance of whichever victim of majority oppression is on the menu today. I think they’ve had quite enough of our first “black/woman/gay president,” and simply desire another “American president.”

Should Obama actually do something with regards to Iran developing nuclear weapons, I might give him some credit for courage. The Navy SEAL killing of bin Laden is not courage on the part of Obama. He had a fall-guy set up to actually make the call in case Obama needed someone to blame if it went bad. That isn't courage or leadership. That's the mark of someone in WAY over their head.

TLP| 5.16.12 @ 9:22AM

Thank you for reminding everyone about what this POS does to "These brave soldiers, who fight on MY behalf" when they come home. Janet Napolitano, and all of the Muslim Brotherhood that are in positions at Homeland Security, put them at the TOP OF THE LIST of people who require watching, by this Administration. Right above People who GO TO CHURCH every week, people who FLY THE AMERICAN FLAG outside their homes, and people who have Gun Racks, and Patriotic Bumper Stickers, on their Cars and Trucks.

You know: WHITE CHRISTIANS.

This Country will never be right, again, while he's in the White House. He needs to go, and I could care less how it happens.

Ridden out on an Electoral Rail, or on the top of a Caisson. It don't make no never mind, to me.

As long as he's gone.

Minuteman78| 5.16.12 @ 9:41AM

I think it'll be both...in that order. He gets bounced out by a margin no amount of voter fraud could overcome, and Soros' hit men take Obama out (to forever prevent the public from finding out just who the joker really is/was), just like they did Andrew Breitbart.

No tears will be shed here.

What's a Caisson ?

Jeamar| 5.16.12 @ 11:43AM

Subnet: I''m sorry but I just can't resist. As a retired high school teacher/librarian, can I say, "Look it up in the dictionary." Please take this with the tongue-in-cheek attitude in which it is intended. "As the caissons go rolling along" might give a clue. Again, I just couldn't help it. You started my morning off with a smile.

In this context, a caisson was a horse drawn, two-wheeled cart used to transport a muzzle loading cannon around a battlefield. It is also used in a funeral cortege (Google JFK's funeral procession for images).

TLP,
As with Carter and Clinton, Obama won't be "gone" when he's voted out of office this November. He will continue to be a danger to our country.

I'm hoping that he will be charged with fraud or treason and sent to prison where he belongs.

The Wizard of Id comic strip had an excellent panel a few years ago. I may be missing the exact details but it goes something like this.
The King was on the throne expounding how his Kingdom was a melting pot for people of all races and beliefs. The Kingdom of ID was a great example of how people can truly work together for the common good. I believe it was Bung, sitting on the steps to the throne who commented that there is one thing wrong with a melting pot. King inquired as to what that might be. Bung replied that in a melting pot everything on the bottom gets burned and the scum floats to the top. The current Administration certainly fits that description.

Crawler| 5.16.12 @ 7:00AM

I've never seen an incumbent president's re-election campaign start sinking so fast right off the pier.

Obama is either the most narcissistic president in American history or he's the stupidest.

Me? I'd say a little of both but lean more toward "acting stupidly".

Only 24 weeks and 6 days until Americans overwhelmingly give Obama and his Progressive Party their eviction notices.

Good riddance...

SUBVET| 5.16.12 @ 10:38AM

Those appointed by the President can be fired by the next President. (This applies to any Administration post, whether it requires Senate confirmation or not. Judicial Appointments can not be so fired, but then they DO require Senate Confirmation. Can we say "Filibuster?")

Surely you mean the first sentence since the second sentence has no 'or.' Anyway, 'or' is the proper conjunction as written, not 'and.'

There's an interesting little sidebar to Mitt Romney's declaration at Liberty University that marriage is between "ONE man and ONE woman" -- it takes away the opportunity for anybody to hang the Polygamy Noose around his neck. Odd that nobody has brought this up yet.

If Obama had gone to Liberty University and declared his support for homosexual marriage, THAT would have been an act of courage. If he had gone to Georgetown University and declared his stance in favour of babies and/or abstinence instead of free condoms and dead babies, THAT would have been courageous. Yelling "ME TOO!" is not courageous; it is a failure of courage at worst and an attempt to get out in front of a shrinking parade at best.

I am not voting for Romney. But I sure am enjoying the show from the bleachers.

oldfart| 5.16.12 @ 7:34AM

You live in Canada and are too wimpy to make a decision on voting, who cares about your daily whine? Give it a rest.
You don't care what happens to the US.

DTOM| 5.16.12 @ 8:41AM

Appleby, then you ARE voting for Obama.

There is no other interpretation - none.

You as a citizen have a RESPONSIBILITY to vote.

This is a two party system and you have to pick the BETTER candidate - getting all huffy because the candidate you liked best did not prevail is not an option.

Do you not recognize that MILLIONS of peoples' lives will be significantly impacted by this upcoming election and that the differences to those millions of people will not be small - they will comprise life and death, financial prosperity or ruin decisions.

What kind of citizen are you that you can just, "Take my ball and go home?"

I say you are a crummy, inferior, egotistical non-performing second-rate citizen, whose behavior is unworthy of the brave patriots who over the last 240 some years have dedicated and far too often given their lives for your right to cast that ballot.

SHAME on you, shame! Vote for the better candidate, DAMN you! Or is that too much to ask?

I think Romney is the weak sister in what was a strong field of conservatives - but I will crawl over flaming coals mixed with broken glass and barbed wire, swim through molten steel, and run miles through mustard gas to cast my ballot for the weak-kneed, demi-conservative Romney.

Do you have an excuse?

DTOM| 5.16.12 @ 8:47AM

Appleby,

If you are going to use Canadian citizenship as an excuse, that's the only one that works. But your post, read by someone unaware of your foreign citizenship (If you actually are!) could easily be lulled into a hazy lassitude by you words - so I could not let them go unchallenged.

Don't Tread On Me!!!

Mike G| 5.16.12 @ 9:28AM

"You as a citizen have a RESPONSIBILITY to vote."

Sometimes, the voting choices are too abhorrent to cast a ballot. Allow me to explain the first time I refused to cast a vote.
It was the Louisiana Governor's race in the early 1990s. One candidate's SUPPORTERS had bumper stickers that said "Vote For the Crook--It's Important." Well, the crook won. Edwin Edwards was released from federal prison last year. He was convicted for crimes committed while in office.
The candidate who lost was David Duke, the former Grand Wizard of the KKK. As far as I'm concerned, there was no choice. Neither was qualified for public office. I refused to vote for a crook or a racist.
And please don't spout platitudes about how I should've run for office. I'm smart enough to know I'd be in over my head, much like our current president. Besides, I don't have the money or the lack of ethics required run.

Frekki| 5.16.12 @ 10:45AM

If you don't vote you're a serf.
I'm a free man, I vote. Period.

Mike G| 5.16.12 @ 11:11AM

I agree that one should vote, but what do you do when the only candidates distinctly unqualified? Who would you vote for, the crook or the racist?

Skippy| 5.16.12 @ 1:05PM

"Appleby, thanks for your support!"
BHO

Teaghan| 5.16.12 @ 8:24PM

Appleby lives in Canada and cannot vote in the US. God, you all are rabid today! Ease up !

Lesser Weevil| 5.16.12 @ 10:01PM

How do you know that? I am pretty sure that she is an American. She has talked about voting in previous elections.

glenny| 5.16.12 @ 2:05PM

Mike, I'm a life long conservative Louisiana resident. I voted in that 1991 gubernatorial election between Edwin Edwards and David Duke; for Edwards. Didn't think I'd ever vote for that crook, but I did. It WAS important at the time.
Better the crook than the scumbag, white supremist KKK wizard, David Duke.
Besides, we finally bagged Edwin into a lengthy jail term.
How many times does a crooked Democrat go to jail????? Not many.
Long term view: As a result, Louisiana is SOLID Republican (except New Orleans) and even the Dems are, at worst, middle of the road.

Indeed, if Obama had went to Georgetown Univ. or Harvard and said he was against abortion he would have gained some ground. Courage is a hard thing to identify, particularly when it is put into words. He retreated the wrong way, standing on the head long fighting against overwhelming odds, serving as an inspiration in the last stand, these things help define courage. Some how I cannot see Obama doing that for the nation or for himself. He's cold and calculating, and not concerned about the status of our nation, only the polls and public opinion. No medals for you Mr. Obama.

DTOM| 5.16.12 @ 8:43AM

Louis,

He's cold and calculating alright. He just doesn't get math...

Von Mises Jr| 5.16.12 @ 8:45AM

A man that brings a gun to a knife fight has no courage. A man who hide behind his color has no courage. A man who hides behind the raw power of government has no courage.

DCA| 5.16.12 @ 10:23AM

VM Jr., it's not just Il Duce Nero, it's the whole Demon party. Their central ordering principle (other than rationing everything from light bulbs to babies) is to exploit Americans' basic respect for law to drive us into government-managed slavery. Nobody with a shred of power in Il Duce's administration would have the courage to actually shoot an enemy (and not just because they revere and suck up to America's enemies), or do the dirty work they propose to outsource to their federal praetorians. They have to order force to be brought to bear against the "Clingers", and try to wash out the damned spots later. Il Duce and his Demon enablers cannot, will not let Americans live in peace and order their own affairs--they can't abide the concept that some Americans value freedom over rationing and slavery. Which is why I think serious civil unrest/war or secession (Texas, please get on with it!!) is virtually inevitable. And given the prices of ammo and guns right now, I think a lot of "Clinger" Americans agree with me.

Von Mises Jr| 5.16.12 @ 10:45AM

I've never met a liberal that is a real man. The aggressive ones hide behind racism, feminism, gay rights or the government. All the courageous people I know are conservatives.

Von M;
A man who brings a knife to a gunfight is a fool.

Von Mises Jr| 5.16.12 @ 5:51PM

Liberals don't bring a knife to a knife fight, or a gun to a gun fight. They stick people up who are unarmed or use the government to steal for them. It is very cowardly.

"... a man will be known by his fruits ..."

- now THAT is funny

WickedDickie--Virginia| 5.16.12 @ 10:21AM

Thanks, Nick. I wondered if anyone would pick up on that. I also note reference to homosexual lifestyle. Aren't we constantly being told they can't help it 'cause they're born that way? Glad she mentioned who the real heroes are and it ain't the one with a jacket over his golf garb. Odd, isn't it, that everyone else in the propaganda pic is dressed for work.

Steve Jay| 5.16.12 @ 10:21AM

History often times repeats itself. I have seen before a press that was so enthralled by its own newsmaking that it couldn't see past its own nose. How many liberal media hacks were shocked when Reagan won the presidency, twice? I don't have a crystal ball so I don't know what will happen in November but neither do these liberal talking heads. We shall see.

Chef Schnauzer| 5.16.12 @ 2:28PM

I'm curious, when (if?) the MSM ever sobers up and takes an honest account of it's dereliction of duty are they in so deep that they can't course correct? Also, has the MSM voided it's 1st Amend. protection?

shipley130| 5.16.12 @ 10:24AM

The 2012 election will be about much more than simply a black person being reelected in America. It will show the mental stability of Americans.

Skippy| 5.16.12 @ 1:07PM

Correction: Arab person.

WickedDickie--Virginia| 5.16.12 @ 12:20PM

Even so, shipley. It will also show beyond a shadow a doubt the shameless dishonesty of Obama-ayers BM. (big media)

I just can't help but notice that Obama's "courageous" statement came out the day after he was defeated in the WV primary by a jailbird in Texas, and lost his "favorite" Republican Dick Lugar. Both items are so humiliating, I can't help but think he needed to change the subject, and Biden had already given him the perfect topic to switch to.

Courageous, indeed.
