A Censored Race War?
Trying to keep the lid on is understandable. But a lot of pressure can build up under that lid.
When two white newspaper reporters for the Virginian-Pilot were driving through Norfolk, and were set upon and beaten by a mob of young blacks — beaten so badly that they had to take a week off from work — that might seem to have been news that should have been reported, at least by their own newspaper. But it wasn’t.
“The O’Reilly Factor” on Fox News Channel was the first major television program to report this incident. Yet this story is not just a Norfolk story, either in what happened or in how the media and the authorities have tried to sweep it under the rug.
Similar episodes of unprovoked violence by young black gangs against white people chosen at random on beaches, in shopping malls or in other public places have occurred in Philadelphia, New York, Denver, Chicago, Cleveland, Washington, Los Angeles and other places across the country. Both the authorities and the media tend to try to sweep these episodes under the rug as well.
In Milwaukee, for example, an attack on whites at a public park a few years ago left many of the victims battered to the ground and bloody. But, when the police arrived on the scene, it became clear that the authorities wanted to keep this quiet.
One 22-year-old woman, who had been robbed of her cell phone and debit card, and had blood streaming down her face said: “About 20 of us stayed to give statements and make sure everyone was accounted for. The police wouldn’t listen to us, they wouldn’t take our names or statements. They told us to leave. It was completely infuriating.”
The police chief seemed determined to head off any suggestion that this was a racially motivated attack by saying that crime is colorblind. Other officials elsewhere have said similar things.
A wave of such attacks in Chicago were reported, but not the race of the attackers or victims. Media outlets that do not report the race of people committing crimes nevertheless report racial disparities in imprisonment and write heated editorials blaming the criminal justice system.
What the authorities and the media seem determined to suppress is that the hoodlum elements in many ghettoes launch coordinated attacks on whites in public places. If there is anything worse than a one-sided race war, it is a two-sided race war, especially when one of the races outnumbers the other several times over.
It may be understandable that some people want to head off such a catastrophe, either by not reporting the attacks in this race war, or not identifying the race of those attacking, or by insisting that the attacks were not racially motivated — even when the attackers themselves voice anti-white invective as they laugh at their bleeding victims.
Trying to keep the lid on is understandable. But a lot of pressure can build up under that lid. If and when that pressure leads to an explosion of white backlash, things could be a lot worse than if the truth had come out earlier, and steps taken by both black and white leaders to deal with the hoodlums and with those who inflame the hoodlums.
These latter would include not only race hustlers like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson but also lesser known people in the media, in educational institutions and elsewhere who hype grievances and make all the problems of blacks the fault of whites. Some of these people may think that they are doing a favor to blacks. But it is no favor to anyone who lags behind to turn their energies from the task of improving and advancing themselves to the task of lashing out at others.
These others extend beyond whites. Asian American school children in New York and Philadelphia have for years been beaten up by their black classmates. But people in the mainstream media who go ballistic if some kid says something unkind on the Internet about a homosexual classmate nevertheless hear no evil, see no evil and speak no evil when Asian American youngsters are beaten up by their black classmates.
Those who automatically say that the social pathology of the ghetto is due to poverty, discrimination and the like cannot explain why such pathology was far less prevalent in the 1950s, when poverty and discrimination were worse. But there were not nearly as many grievance mongers and race hustlers then.

No worries richard. I grew up near Newark when the riots occurred in 1967-68. Our family was worried. But the rioters were not Rhodes Scholars. They burned their own neighborhoods and expelled the Korean grocery owners for exploitation. I still never visit that area when back in my boyhood neighborhood since it was still in shambles twenty-five years later.
Race hustlers and rioters are not a big concern in the rural areas. We that cling to our Bibles and guns are not like the race hustlers and rioters. But we are ex-military and hunters. So perhaps the rioters are better off burning their own neighborhoods, because in mine they might not fare well.

The white political elite are so petrified of black communities rioting, that they chose to classify these attacks as simple assaults or do nothing than tell the citizens who have been attacked to move along, nothing to see here.

Of course this will be portrayed in the light of a group of white folks attacking a group of innocent, virginal black teenagers on their way to a strawberry social.
Believe it or not this type of behavior could be stopped dead in it's tracks if only black conservatives would take a stand and tell the likes of Sharpton, Jackson, and the New Black Panther Party to go straight to hell. But this doesn't sell, newspapers or TV time. Blacks burning down a city and murdering those that reside within, "Now thats a story worthy of a Pulitzer."

I met a college student recently that was severely beaten by a group of thugs. His skull was fractured, his eye socket needed multiple surgeries to correct a deformity. Just attacked for being white, according to the attackers' own words.

It is not a he said, he said phase. There was a witness who saw Martin on top of Zimmerman banging his head into the sidewalk. The photos of Zimmerman's head show blood streaming down, and he was treated for a broken nose. The 911 operator is the one who mentioned race when she asked if the person was black, hispanic, or white, and Zimmermans answered that he thought the person was black. He had ceased following Martin and given the police the address where he was and said that he would wait for them there. There is so much that is NOT being reported by the MSM, but being from FL, I read the local papers that are reporting the entire story, not just what the agitators want the public to know.

Watch the news, read the paper, check the internet, those commiting crime have been wearing hoodies as a form of disguise for years, so the entire Trayvon was attacked because he was wearing a hood is as solid as jello. It's a disguise, one used all the time by predators, and they know it. George Zimmerman, no matter how much substantiated info, how many witnesses, how good the photos, how many polygraphs he takes, as long as the black community shouts racial epitaths louder than the white community shouts it was self defence, poor George will be found guilty. The white community will only bitch and moan to each other, which won't work. They need to pull up their big boy/girl panties and be just as "outwardly" vocal as the black community. Not physically, but vocally, without abusive language, and make sure his trial is fair and just.

How can the white community (if there is such a thing) react with words? With all of the facts pointing to Zimmerman's version of his encounter with a violent hood, he was still indicted for 2nd degree murder. The race hustlers have been quiet recently, but they hint at the violent riots (looting) that they will provide cheer leading for if Zimmerman should be acquitted. Look at what happened to the brilliant John Derbyshire who wrote a very reasonable article advising white folks on how to avoid being attacked by the thugs that have ben unleashed in many U.S. cities. A "conservative" publication, National Review, fires him and proclaims him to be a "racist", whatever that is. Comments such as those appearing in these pages will never reach the media and the voting public. The American culture continues to be brainwashed in the belief that anyone with black skin must be a pinnacle of virtue and victimhood. When do you see a black character in a TV crime drama as the perpetrator of a heinous crime? Never! the typical black character on TV dramas will be a brain surgeon, but not a criminal. Most conservative blogs will censor a comment such as mine.
It is hopeless unless we firat learn how to recapture control of the media and the Hollywood elite who control this cultural bias.

Those "black race warriors" are just one facet of the Left's Army of the Aggrieved. Leftists spend much of their time inculcating their human shields (blacks, gays, women, ad nauseum) with as much resentment and anger as possible so they can best serve the needs of the Leftists who wish to use them as both defense and offense. I read your work regularly and am always impressed. I was raised by a single mother and spent my first several years living in govt project housing. I remember picking fruit and field vegatables at an age much earlier than ten in order to help her put food on the table for my younger two siblings. My mother was a dark- skinned woman, single, thinly educated and flat broke. She had no help from family because she married a white man. But she never took a drink, never brought home a man, and worked often up to 70 hours per week to feed, clothe, house and educate us. Two of us made it through the gauntlet and now own small businesses, homes, and have raised great children ourselves. The other sibling fell prey to drugs, sexual promiscuity and a life full of blaming everyone else for self chosen failures and shortcomings.
Something in your steady and strong messages reminds me of the straight- talking, strong handed honesty that my mother doled out at every possible moment in the attempt to make clear the consequences of our choices and the gravity of our actions.
You display courage and conviction in your work, and for years, I have taken strength from learning that people like you still exist in our world, and that regardless of our starting circumstances, we can make good choices for ourselves that will result in good outcomes.
I abhor the race baiting and political manipulations that pit one social or racial group against others. I witnessed this simple- minded manipulation taking place in my earliest years in the housing projects, amongst my schoolmates, and in the actions of many of the members of our community. In many ways, living that life was a lesson in survival every day. But I held fast to the ideals taught by my mother, and a few other godly people in my community that reached out to me as I navigated those very tough years. And I am grateful for the lessons those years and those people taught, good and not so good.
It is what is in our souls, and not in our skins that defines us eternally.

Today's black community loves to talk about the great things Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. did to advance civil rights. But they do not follow his word. They do not judge by the content of a person's character, they judge by the color of their skin.
The '50s was an environment that fostered peaceful protesters like Dr. King, but once the Progressives realized they could not contain blacks, they proceeded to radicalize black culture. The same Democrats who once suppressed black rights and founded the Klan poisoned the legacy of Dr. King, encouraging mothers in black communities to raise children without fathers, promising them "The State" will be their father and leading to the social decay we see in the black community today.
The black community loves to talk about Dr. King, but the truth is, Malcolm X and his group of race hustlers won the civil rights movement, and progressives hungry for civil unrest have enabled them.

I agree with many of the thrust of Mr. Sowell's comments and those of the posters. As Dr. King said in his speech on the mall - it is what is on the inside, not the outside that matters. My momma taught me, there are good folk and bad folk and the color of the skin means nothing.

The practice of not identifying the race of criminals, just for blacks, is already backfiring. We KNEW Zimmerman's race right away, because USUALLY, non-blacks are identified by race in the media. What is happening though, is that ANY story which DOES NOT mention race, readers will simply assume (black), even if it's not the case. It's one of the many examples of liberalism's unintended consequences.

Daniel Patrick Moynihan bemoaned the Double Standards that were being applied as to the Behavior of Black Americans. He was alarmed at the rampant decay in everything surrounding the Left's Pet Project. The Illegitimatacy Rates in the Black Neighborhoods. The lack of a Strong Male Figure, in the house, that was resulting in poor discipline, rampant School Drop Out Numbers, and, of course, high Crime Rates, high Drug Use, high Gang Affiliation, and PRISON.

I wondered when someone was going to advise folks in certain neighborhoods to arm themselves. This is exactly the point Dr. Sowell is making. Someday a gang of punks will jump the wrong "whitey" and there will be carnage. The blame will belong on the sholders of those in authority who tried to pretend that black on white violence wasn't happening and did nothing to prevent it. People will take the law into thier own hands with all the usual bad outcomes.

In Atlanta this was common everyday behaviour; I have even heard one of the lawyers who works with me in Toronto say that when he was in Atlanta visiting with his family, Black brats would deliberately get in front of them on the sidewalk and force them to walk around them, so they could shove White into the street or against a wall. A lot of this behaviour thinned down when Concealed Carry became a law, and those of us who spoke up (to the younger hoodlums on the bus or subway, mostly) were generally left alone thereafter. But the citywide assumption that White = Racist, by virtue of skin colour and regardless of anything one said, did or thought, was the thing that drove me out of that city for good. Having been brought up by parents who actually followed the "content of his character" rule, I have friends without regard to their colour; but I am still amused by the Atlanta newspaper's strict rule against identifying criminals by race, and then printing their names, which are inevitably Congolia Thigpen and Napoleon Bonapart Jones.
P.S. In case of riots, keep in mind that the best trained and equipped militia in the country is the Korean Grocers' Association. There used to be an iconic photo of a Korean Grocer standing on the overhang of his store in Atlanta, facing a large crowd of seething Blacks and reporters during the Rodney King Loot-In and Jambouree, holding a large and imposing assault rifle and promising to shoot the first person who stepped forward toward his store. All those photos were taken down immediately after the riots, but there are plenty of people who saw it. And no Korean grocery was touched.

I'm not sure what the statistics look like today, but back in the 1990s crime statistics showed that were it not for black-on-black crime the U.S. violent crime rate was near the lowest in the industrialized world. It's a sad but true statement that blacks commit statistically more violent crime than than other race in the U.S. And one more thing, white-on-black crime is almost non-existent in the U.S. that's why it makes the news--it's a very rare occurance. Since blacks are becoming less discriminating in how they choose their victims, I simply suggest that more lawabiding citizens start practicing their second amendment rights.

We have a serious disconnect between the reality of how most blacks live and the criminality of too many of the young (16 to 25) blacks
I have dealth with many blacks as clients. Most live in crime ridden areas of the city. They are afraid to go out and shopping or taking a bus is an adventure. Jitney drivers (illegal taxis) provide the only safe reliable transportation in most neighborhoods, with women car pooling for shopping and work. Most have told me they want more police presence in their areas, not less. Most would move if they could afford it.
I know five families who have had a young (20-25) son or daughter killed as victims in robberies. Yet all we hear from the MSM is the race hustlers like Sharpton, Jackson, and the white stoooges blame all the problems on the "root" causes of poverty, education, etc. and fail to provide the basic protection for people and property.
We need more leaders like Dr. Sowell to tell the truth. The first order of business is to provide police protection to all, white and black, against the criminals. If a government cannot provide protection for its cititzens then what is the point of it?

The Archives of the Tuskegee Institute list a total of 4742 lynchings from 1882 through 1968. Of these, 1297 (27%) were whites, 3445 were blacks. So much for your "5000 black men were lynched".
In some states, all of the lynchings were of whites. Arizona, Idaho, South Dakota, and Wisconsin had a total of 84 during that period, none of them black.

What you will see shortly is the total abandment of the inner cities. They will be left to their chaos. The middle class, both black, and any white left, will have been gone in a few short years. There will be no reason for the civilized to go there. If the governemtn does not step in to subsidize the chaos, the problem will burn itself out.
Look at those areas where the middle class has relocated. Blacks and whites go to school and socialize togeether. The traditiaonal roving gangs of young males are diverse. The boys and girls holding hands on the way home are diverse. They will stand up for one another, and protect one anothers back. If the uncivilized attempt to start trouble, the trouble will be dealt with as it always has been dealt with. The boys will protect their turf.
This is not so much a racial matter as a cultural one. The Jacksons and Sharptons of the country are on their last laps. Soon they will have only their core constituancy to bray at, and those folks will end up eating them alive.
The ones you have to feel sorry for are the old and infirm you cannot find a way out of the jungle. They others will take care of the problem on their own, once they recognize that the government is unable or unwilling to maintain control. It is only one short generation away.

I think you have just put forward one of the best analyses of this situation I have seen.
I remember when my old Chicago neighborhood (Austin) was changing. The first black families who moved in took a great deal of pride in being homeowners, and fixed up the houses into which they moved. When the large apartment buildings changed over is when the problems started. Renters do not have the same stake in the neighborhood as do property owners.
I think you are right in that the inner cities will eventually be abandoned by the governments until the contagion burns itself out.

Interesting but very old news – been going on for decades within American cities. Imagine you’re a minority dwelling along the fringe of a confident, assertive majority and you’re constantly reminded nothing is your fault, you’re a helpless victim and obviously there's very little anyone can do to change that. Further suppose you can’t read or do simple arithmetic. Not that you don’t like to read, you literally can’t get beyond “See Spot run”. The world can be a scary place when trying to read the stops on a simple subway map is equivalent to you or I reading James Joyce’s “Ulysses”.
Effectively combatting this constant state of fear which rules your life requires surrounding yourself with other pissed off illiterates who look and talk exactly like you do and, more importantly, who serve to instill a minimal sense of personal security. Raised within a ghetto culture of constant violence, primarily from members of your own race, isn’t conducive to cultivating a peaceful mode of normal behavior.

When the greater majority eventually loses its patience and starts cracking down, you revert to your innocent choir boy routine and victim of society persona. After some little time passes without further incident, the majority believes the problem has been solved thanks to newly enacted government programs and you can revert back to being lovable old you.
But let’s not kid ourselves a workable solution to the problem of angry, minority youths can be found – there are no long term solutions short of old fashioned frontier justice – and that realization is exactly what frightens these packs of urban predators the most.

The cops are hired guns for the self serving liberal traitor legal establishment. They will not defend anyone who is honest because the politicians hate us as much as the criminals do even though we pay for everything done by the criminal element as our standard of living declines with more of their predation and our losses increase in treasury, property, and blood. So we get robbed and murdered. Then our families get victimized again by leftist legal and economic muscle in the media and the public square because they are joined at the hip culturally with the criminals regardless of race which stems from hatred of the 10 Commandments and traditional American morality as a foundation of their self images and desire for the penultimate trope of Black street cred: "We BaaaDD!!" To them, that's good. And Wicked is even better. These are the real villains the black street punks are killing for. The punks do it for amusement while the liberal lawyers and pundits gloat as they accumulate raw political power. Scorn of goodness and innocence is now a blood sport played for keeps in our modern Roman circus of a culture. It's been thumbs down on decency since the '68 riots, and recovery is impossible with the trash in positions of authority where nobody can vote them out.
