Ed Schultz: The Third Least Influential Person Alive

Interestingly if inadvertently, this problem with selling liberalism on the radio or television was underlined recently by two very different people.
The first was one-time MSNBC host Keith Olbermann, who has a famous habit of being fired by his various employers. But the last one — Al Gore’s Current TV — elicited from Olbermann a remark that wasn’t quite as absurd as many took it to be when he made it on David Letterman’s show. Olbermann compared himself to a “a $10 million chandelier” in a house — meaning Current TV — that didn’t have a room to put it in.
The second person to touch on this problem was comedian Jimmy Kimmel, who took his turn trying to make Washington political and media elites laugh at Saturday night’s White House Correspondent’s Dinner. Said Kimmel, in a jibe that seemed aimed Olbermann but spoke volumes about liberalism:
I’d like everyone to look under their seats. You’ll find a copy of Keith Olbermann’s resume. I didn’t know Current TV existed, because I don’t get Channel 1,000,000.
In other words, getting past Olbermann’s ego and Kimmel’s joke, the point is exactly the same as it is when discussing Ed Schultz. To wit: Liberalism doesn’t have an audience to speak of. Or perhaps, period. Whether it’s for Al Gore’s Current TV. Or Ed Schultz.
It’s been tried. It’s been tested. It has been found to be — yet again — a failure.
As Schultz inadvertently communicated when lashing out obsessively at Hannity yet again, there are more hungry people in the Obama era than “ever before.” Because liberalism has a long and decided track record in inducing poverty and hunger in America. Or, as we observed in this space last week, whether the man in charge is Jimmy Carter or Barack Obama — the results of liberalism are always, always the same.
Which is why GQ (of all publications) grudgingly newsflashed that Ed Schultz is no Sean Hannity.
Which is why Sean Hannity didn’t need conservative donor funding for his show.
Which is why Sean Hannity isn’t on a union payroll.
Which is why Sean Hannity has huge ratings.
Which is why Sean Hannity doesn’t have to have outside groups write his television scripts.
Which is why Sean Hannity earns the big bucks.
Which, taken all together, is why MSNBC’s Ed Schultz spends his time spluttering about Sean Hannity.
What else is there to do if you’re the third least influential person alive?

Actually, at one time some years ago, after his "Damascus" conversion to being Leftie but before hosting his own show, he used to appear as a "voice of the heartland"-type pundit on M(ostly)S(ocialist)NBC and actually spoke in a conversational tone and actually attempted to make his points without a lot of personal invective. He was either a phony then, or he is one now, in terms of his broadcasting demeanor; I'm put in mind of the late and unlamented Morton Downey, who was the same sort of ideologue-for-hire who could turn the abuse up full from 0 to 60 in half a second. As it happens, Downey was a fairly personable if insincere human being and didn't begin to believe all the ideology, but just decided to cash in by being nasty. Schultz is no different.

That first quote by GQ at the beginning is very true in my case: The only time I have watched Ed Schultz’s show is when I have turned on a television and for some reason it was on MSNBC and his show was scheduled. I don’t think I have ever watched him, or for that matter much of anything on that station, more than a minute before turning the channel.

Sgt. Spittle used to come on the radio after Rush before his current inexplicable television run. It always sounded like he was listening to Rush before his own show and had convinced himself that he could be a mirror image of Rush. His lack of talent, however, was on display every time he opened his gaping maw. Someone should have told him that being smarmy, snotty, ill-informed and really really bad at delivering sarcasm is no way to go through life. It seems as if the left is so desparate to have a real success on talk radio that they are drawing their talent(?) from trolls like the ones tugging at the coattails of this site. I don't know much about Ed Schultz & what he's up to these daya as I don't get MSNBC as part of my cable package up here in Canada (you have to pay extra for it & i can't be bothered) but on the basis of this article I he sounds like the living embodiment of the Peter Principle. Way back when (more years than I care to admit) he was the back-up QB for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League for a few seasons and did a reasonably competent job when called upon. He then became the sportscaster for one of the big 3 network affiliates in either Fargo or Grand Forks (this was the late 70's/early 80's if I recall accurately) and he was actually pretty good. Should have stuck to his strengths I guess...

Schultz probably thought that being a conservative radio host would mean instant big bucks, like Limbaugh. But he didn't enter into the equation his own natural suck factor. It hardly matters what Schultz says he believes because it's always going to be disingenuous. Conservatives didn't want him, so he camped in the Left's dumpster hoping for some charity - and that's what he got. Union money, Media Matters money, but not a nickel of earned money. Every cafeteria at Microsoft has several large flat screen televisions mounted to the walls, and almost all play MSNBC all day. The few that don't show ESPN.
