President Obama has been the worst president for business in my
lifetime. The result: a stagnant economy where some
half of American adults do not pay federal income taxes and
almost half live in a household that received benefits from the
U.S. government.
The President’s rhetoric demonizing business and dividing the
country, and the Administration’s actions hurting the business
environment or specific industries have dampened business
hiring.
To be fair, President Obama has taken some actions that have
been helpful: Pushing through the Bush trade deals, opposing
Internet restrictions, shepherding the recent JOBS Act that removed
government barriers to capital formation and obtaining additional
spectrum for broadband. These have been positive, pro-innovation
and pro-business measures — but they have not been enough.
Since President Obama has taken office we have at least two
million more employable Americans, yet after trillions of dollars
of stimulus and deficit spending, we actually have fewer
non-government jobs than we did the day he took the oath of office.
The totality of the actions below has cast such a pall over our
economy that we will be stuck in a jobless recovery for the
foreseeable future. President Obama and his Administration
have…
- Increased
the deficit more than $4 trillion, causing the first-ever
downgrade in the U.S. credit rating and for the first time raising
serious questions about U.S. financial stability.
- Issued
106 new major rules that cost U.S. businesses $11 billion in
implementation and more than $46 billion each year.

Blocked Boeing’s new South Carolina factory from opening to
assuage his union supporters.
-
Raided a Gibson Guitar factory for violating an arcane India
law even though India does not believe the law has been
broken.
- Issued an
“ambush” election rule allowing quick unionization and limiting
an employer’s ability to present reasons for non-unionization.
- Restricted how companies
hire unpaid interns, cutting the link between students and
employers.
- Blocked the construction of the
Keystone Pipeline that would have given jobs to thousands of
American workers, further reducing the domestic oil supply and
forcing our ally Canada to turn to China as a more willing
partner.

Cut authorization of permits restricting drilling in Gulf and
slowed permitting of new oil drilling so our future oil supply
will be restricted and gas prices will be higher.
- Mandated
third party certification for all manufacturers participating
in the Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star program, which
has raised costs for manufacturers and created a disincentive for
participation in the program.

Funded Solyndra and other unworthy companies, wasting taxpayer
money but also discouraging other privately funded companies from
entering the market.
- Only moved on Bush free trade agreements and
failed to enter one new free trade agreement, even while our
competitors have entered many, making U.S. goods more expensive to
export.

Pushed for passage of card check legislation that would
infringe upon the rights of workers and make the United States a
less desirable place to open a business.
- Created a new rule requiring every employer to post notices on union
“rights,” (found illegal by a federal court in April).

Changed rules on unionization votes so the majority of
employees no longer need to vote to unionize, allowing easier
unionization.

Disparaged the city of Las Vegas twice, which led to an
immediate and dramatic fall-off in hotel room bookings and
hospitality jobs.
- Proposed
onerous restrictions on government officials attending trade
shows, threatening vital cooperation between business and
government to create jobs.

Mandated that every hotel swimming pool have special access for
the disabled, causing pools to close or hotels to add expensive
add-ons, hurting the hotel industry and employment.

Imposed a requirement that every employer with more than 49
employees provide health care insurance or pay a fine.
- Allowed the United States to become the
highest corporate tax nation in the developed world.
- Required
every children’s product to undergo expensive testing, threatening
thousands of small businesses that make children’s products.

Demonized businesses and one-percent income earners
consistently as greedy.

Increased the number of IRS audits of successful job creators
while dramatically cutting audits of those reporting no

- Imposed a 2.3 percent new excise tax on
innovative medical devices.
- Imposed a new investment income
“surtax” of 3.8 percent.

Raised the Medicare Payroll tax from 2.9 percent to 3.8
percent.
- Required every individual to buy health insurance as part of
his healthcare reform, which the
Congressional Budget Office says will cost twice as much as the
White House originally advertised.

every job category for government contractors, creating a new
expensive burden to doing business with government.

Expanded the definition of “disabled” to include people with
diabetes and heart disease, among others, and specified new quotas
for hiring under this definition.

(and already taxed), thus encouraging U.S. companies to invest

Proposed higher taxes for business-use airplanes, raising the

discouraging entrepreneurs by raising the cost to enter the

Raided California medical marijuana facilities, harming
entrepreneurs and threatening medical treatments.
- Sought and signed the
Dodd-Frank financial reform law with its hundreds of new rules
and restrictions that impose billions in new costs on financial
companies.
- Advocated for the “Buffett
Rule,” which would discourage U.S. investment and barely dent
the deficit.
- Expressed plans to
raise the capital gains tax, which would discourage U.S.
capital formation and drive investment overseas.
- Created
new emissions standards for industrial boilers that may cost
hundreds of thousands of U.S. businesses a total of $14.5
billion.
- Pursued his
campaign pledge to adopt electronic medical records, at an
estimated cost of as much as $100 billion. The plan is
already costing jobs.
- Set
new energy-use mandates for many products, discouraging
innovation and consumer choice and raising product costs.
- Imposed
new restrictions on the number of hours driven by truck
drivers, costing more than $400 million with no proven additional
safety benefit and raising the cost of goods shipped in the United
States.

Failed to confront drug company payoffs/rebates to doctors,
thus raising the cost of health care.
- Negotiated
secret trademark treaties that are so secret their effects are
unknown.
- Failed to make government more transparent by
restricting FOIA requests, according to the Washington
Post, making review of government actions difficult.
- Neglected to do anything about providing
guns to Mexico drug cartels, which resulted in the death of
U.S. Border Patrol agents, causing worldwide doubt as to U.S. rule
of law.
- Perpetuated the fraud of “green
jobs” to sell and justify stimulus funds with little evidence
to support the market for these jobs.

Investigated leading U.S. companies, such as Amazon, Apple,
Google, Intel and Qualcomm, which encouraged other countries to do
the same.
No doubt some might quibble with some items on this list; others
could probably take it up to 100. The point is that the Obama
Administration has hurt business interests and job creation. While
President Obama and his administration aren’t solely responsible
for America’s economic turmoil, they have definitely hurt much more
than they helped.

Importing hundreds of thousands of lower paid H1B tech workers has hurt American workers along with the industry overall (look at the miserable state many IT companies and divisions are in after the H1B floodgate opened!) and cheap illegal labor has destroyed working class labor in the country while increasing the burden of the welfare state.

PK, yes, it's an aside, but I remember seeing homes constructed in the 1980's that had the flimsiest construction. I doubt that all states would allow this, but in Virginia I saw some new houses being constructed that except for the corners which had 4x8 chipboard, the walls were layered as such from the inside out:
drywall
plastic vapor barrier
insulation
1/2 inch foam insulation
vinyl siding
If you don't happen to hit a stud, you can actually put your foot through the walls. Prior to seeing that I would not have believed such a construction practice would be allowed. I wonder how much of this flimsy housing is in place around the Washington, DC suburbs in Virginia?

I've been in the housing business for 30 years, and would never build or live in a house with vinyl siding. You can literally cut your way into someones house with an utility knife. Plus the crap is highly flammable. There have been incidents here in GA where one house with vinyl siding caught fire, and the next 4 or 5 all went up.
There is nothing wrong with houses built after 1980. Actually the building codes are tougher now than ever, but be sure to have a home inspection done, and never use vinyl siding. Go with brick or cement-fiber siding.

It depends what you mean by the word "care." There are good and bad practices in health care, education, food programs, government child support, etc. However, the answer by our governments too often is to throw money at everything, good or bad, and hope it lands somewhere and does some goo. This is done, even if 30-40% of the money is debt as it is now at the Federal level. The debt burden alone is not showing proper "care" for our future, both near and far. Too large a percentage of the money is spent frivolously rather than wisely.
Part of it may be due to geography but Japan and S. Korea do not open their doors to millions of foreigners and try to support whatever needs they fall short in, documented or not. Nor do they pay for millions of illigitimate children, thus encouraging more illigitimacy the way we do in America. Given enough time, this will bankrupt us or cause our currency to devalue with devastating results.

I don't care - Your side didn't care that just Bush added 5 Trillion to the deficit and left Obama with 2 wars to pay for (or borrow for) and a financial and housing collapse that started on his watch. Let the Bush tax cuts lapse and we'll cut it in half. Cut defense to 5x what China spends, we'll cut it another 1/3. Raise tariffs on cheap goods and bring manufacturing back to the U.S. - we'll cut another 1/4.
If Bush would have used the surplus he had to fully fund the Social Security Trust Fund, Soc Sec would be solvent until 2080 and beyond. If he not mandated ineffectual regulatory oversight, with regulators sleeping with their charges, we might have escaped the housing bubble that burst and certainly avoided the financial collapse brought on by risky investments with no oversight to stop it.
Healthcare costs are still an issue and Bush did nothing to address it - Obama should have gone for Medicare for all - but at least he did something.
You whine and moan now, but where were you when we could have paid down the debt like we did under Clinton (a Democrat) during Bush's terms?

If D's would consider what is best for this nation's economy, they would agree with R's to reduce governmental welfare spending in order to reduce the government's defecit/debt and the problem would be thus solved. Michelle is right. My husband has been in practice 30 years. He genuinely loves his patients and they love him back. He started a group of healthcare professionals who set up a free/reduced cost clinic in our county. He has been a fighter for patients' rights in our state for many years and a member of the AMA where he opposed their cave-in to Obamacare.
So many lies are told about physicians in the Alinsky "isolate and demonize" fashion: The public is not aware of this: physicians do a significant amount of charity care in their practices and they do see people who can't pay. The number of these varies with each practice. How many "no pay" patients should doctors be forced to care for? When free health care becomes a right, then healthcare workers will be forced to guarantee those rights.
My husband works 12 hours a day, 6 days a week but sold his private practice several years ago and joined a group practice because of crushing government regulations/hassles over how he is "allowed" to care for his patients. He spends 3 of those 12 hours a day doing government mandated paperwork.
When Obamacare is forced upon us, he will close out his career. He is 60 years old. The sad part of all this is that it is the patients who will be hurt more than anyone.

Yeah, Purp, Bush had 9/11, the two wars, and Clinton's financial scandals to clean up. All of which he did so Obama doesn't have to. Bush added $4 trillion to the debt in 8, years - Obama added $5 trillion in 3 years. The worst unemployment under Bush was 6.8% - under Obama it got to 10% and is now 8.0%. In short, Obama is a juvenile weasel that needs to "man up" instead of complaining - if that is even possible for him.

In 2007, Bush ran a defecit of $180 billion. In 2008, he added Stimuls I ($180 billion) and TARP ($100 billion). Total defecits as a conseqence was $480 billion. The 2009 budget from Obama added $800 billion (Stimulus II) plus an additional $1 trillion additional spending. His defecit for 2009 was $2 trillion. Since then, he has added $3 trillion. And since you bring up Clinton and his 1999-2000 budget (his 2000-2001 budget ran defecits), I suggest we return to Clinton era spending ($1.8 trillion). The 2009 budget was never passed by either Pelosi or Reid.
Funny, but Obama has been President for 3.5 years. But you never once recognize that he's been at the helm. You're still bitching about Bush (why not bring up Reagan?).

Think about it: Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas are all conservative-run states and what happened to them as a result of Obama's response to the oil spill? Arizona is being sued by our own government:it's governor is Republican. The San Joaqin valley in California where the water was shut off usually votes Republican, does it not?
It would be interesting to know about the coal companies-are their owners Republican donors? They are being shut down and one plant near Chicago was spiked so it can never be reopened. Oil companies (and the vast number of spin-off industries and their employees) have been severely hurt by Obama's wrath. Oil company executives should band together to help us get rid of Obama and his goons by raising the price of gas to $10/gallon in September. Immediately after His Coolness leaves office, drop the prices to 2.50. Once conservatives take control, more drilling permits should be issued and regulations should be eased so the pipeline could be approved. (Yes, I know that would only happen in some parallel universe)

You have an extremely distorted vision of the oil / petroleum business. There are none of those monolithic vertically integrated 'Big Oil' companies any more. There are oil exploration companies, transport, refining, marketing, retail all separate and for the most part indepedent. Go look for an Exxon station, you won't find one. Exxon isn't in the retail sales end anymore. Retail sales are mostly francises now. The market controls the price of petroleum and the retail product which are not just gasoline, but deisel, kerosene Jet A, Asphalt, chemical stocks etc. If by chance the 'oil execs' banded to increase the prices, they would all be prosecuted for price fixing and end up in jail. The Oborg would like to do that but can't because there is no case. Don't make statements about the impossible.
