But they aren’t responsible for the brutal beating of Matthew
Owens. Twenty or more individual attackers are responsible. But
Lord Almighty, if Sharpton and Holder and their ilk aren’t at least
more obviously culpable indirectly for fomenting racial
hatred than anything Sarah Palin said was responsible for the
Giffords shooting, then Alice’s rabbit hole has taken over all of
reality.
A real leader with Sharpton’s profile would travel to Mobile,
denounce the Owens beating, announce that this is not how
self-respecting members of any race should act, and call
for swift and sure punishment for the attackers whether their
motives were racial or “just” hateful and vicious without regard to
skin color at all. Matthew Owens is a seriously injured man, not a
seriously injured white man. And his attackers are criminal
individuals who should be punished regardless of their skin color
— and made an example of the wages of mob violence, which cannot
and must not be allowed to use race or even racial insults as
pretext for outright thuggery.
Jamie| 4.25.12 @ 6:25AM
This is precisely what I figured. The black kids were not doing what they should have been doing, Matthew Owens confronted them, they got adults in the situation, and the adults acted like thugs.
There is no way this is not a hate crime.

Race Riots are Back: White Girl Bleed a Lot
A New book from Washington Post-award winning reporter Colin Flaherty
Race riots are back.
Along with widespread racial crime and violence.
In hundreds of episodes in more than 50 cities since 2010, groups of black people are roaming the streets of America -- assaulting, intimidating, stalking, threatening, vandalizing, stealing, shooting, stabbing, even raping and killing.
They go by different names: Flash mobs, flash robs, or as one social worker put it: Kids just "blowing off steam."
But local media and public officials are silent.
Von Mises Jr| 4.25.12 @ 8:03AM
I'm sure MLK is turning in his grave. Obama, Holder, Sharpton and Jackson have not only set back 50 years of progress, they may have turned our cities into a reverse Antebellum South.

There does need to be some regulation to deal with the trolls and overboard hostile comments that try to hijack the message board. TLP has crossed the line from righteous indignation against Obama to outright hostility and vulgarity to anyone who dares say he could tone it down a bit and make the slightest attempt at civility. Did you NOTICE who this America Hating President just had in his home? He had the MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD over for Tea, and $1.5 BILLION large. What do you think they're gonna do with that money?
Unemployment Numbers, Gas Prices, Home Prices, The Number of Americans in Poverty, the War on the Private Sector, the War on Companies that can make us Energy Independent. The War on people who have made something of their lives. The Illegal Gun Running Operation that gave THOUSANDS Of High Powered Automatic Weapons to the Mexican Drug Cartels, that has MURDERED over 1,000 Innocent Mexican Men, Women, and Children, in an effort to push new Gun Control Laws in this Country.
We have more Americans on FOOD STAMPS than ever, Racist Black Mobs running wild, in Sanford Florida, and an announcement that The War on Terror is over, because we're now going to work on Creating Small Businesses with the Terrorist Organization - The Muslim Brotherhood.
STFU.

Quite right Von, the heirs to MLK have turned his noble quest into a farce of racial reparations, something for nothing.
They have destroyed the black family structure and have addicted their fellow blacks to a steady diet of government subsistence and base poverty.
Unfortunately for Dr. King, forces within his own constituancy were pushing him into more radical and confrontational politics.
We can remember the more noble aspects of Dr. King and lament the frauds who have followed in his footsteps.

Why all these constant attacks on Newt from conservatives? Here is what Newt said when asked about his campaign several years ago: "Slightly more moving our way. I think that the mother killing the two children in South Carolina vividly reminds every American how sick the society is getting and how much we need to change things."
Newt's solution to how to turn things around? "The only way you get change is to vote Republican. That's the message for the last three days."
How did Quin get "left-wing moral depravity and corruption of cultural norms" out of this?
Newt's comments were typical law-and-order type statements that have been part of conservatism since at least the 1960s. Where did Newt accuse the Left of causing Smith to kill her children?
Come on Quin. Enough with the anti-Newt jabs in an attempt to be "fair and balanced."
richard ryan| 4.25.12 @ 12:34PM
Agree 100%. I'm also growing weary of idiots like Bill O'Reilly who always feel it is necessary to preface comments about the left with "there are just as many far right loons who are just as bad..."
That's not true. Conservatives generally are good people, they are correct in their arguments, and if left alone would make this nation great again.

KennesawJack| 4.25.12 @ 3:17PM

Yes, there are white flash mobs. They're the dangerous lunatics who suddenly begin singing "The Hallelujah Chorus" in malls at Christmastime.

Black flash mobs, it must be said, are no more "Leftist" than they are "Rightist." What they are is black. It is race, not ideology, that defines this disgusting predatory behavior. further where is the alternative to the sharptons, and jacksons from within the black community? they have been effectively told to shut up and to tow the line. The new slaveowners are black elites and they hinder any young voice from their own community.
Jacobite| 4.26.12 @ 2:35PM
In 100% contrast to any black victim's story, a local KC Lib talk-show host regularly accuses the kid of confabulating the whole thing. This dipstick would doubtless claim O.J. was innocent too. I want to join you in thanking Mr. Hillyer of this balanced reporting!
The silence of Holder is deafening; Sharpton's not so much-it's expected.
It is sad that we have to face an issue of racism, fueled by the usual race hustlers.
This silence almost appears as an approval and, it only worsen the situation. I wish we could have an open and, honest discussion on race; although attempting such usually ends in finger pointing or accusations.
The good thing is, not all black americans don't take part in this type of vengence as it did in this case.
Whether police find those responsible, make an arrest depends at a minimum on decency; police lately shirk the duty to call it hate crime not to inflame this situation even more. There is also the 'don't snitch' issue within the black community; while many want to do the right thing - the 'don't snitch' code does not allow them to do the right thing so as to not be labeled 'traitor'. It's unfortunate.
Living in the Bay Area in California is very different; things like that is rare or non-existant; races are so inter mingled; marriages are the 'normal' and, there is no tension, not even now after the Trayvon/Zimmermann issue.

We cannot afford to deny these crimes any longer, they are having a deeply corrosive impact on youth development and social norms. This in not a partisan matter.

There are no races, just different identifications among humans. For Christians, we all descended from Adam & Eve. And for science minded folks, Spencer Wells, renowned geneticist, has determined we all evolved from common parents.
http://www.vanityfair.com/cult.....phic200707
So, the only physical differences between us are due to genetic mutations and the values certain cultures placed on them.
What divides us is what I call tribalism, where people tend to adopt common identification & values for various reasons like physical traits, beliefs, places of origin, etc. It could be a gang, team, city, state, religion, ethnic grouping, political party, or nation.
All we have to do to solve the divides between us is to change our thinking. All the people in the beat down mob had to do was think, "Matt Owens is one of us."

I tend to disagree, what was needed here is a few semi-automatic weapons and the will to use them. It is well established that deadly force can be used to prevent the death or serious bodily harm of anohter, and the people in the mob would have run like the cowards they are if an onlooker had manned up and opened fire. An added bonus would be the fact that those who would not or could not run away would not only never cause another affray or commit another act of mayhem, but the state would be saved the cost of prosecuting them and then caring for them while they are in jail for assault and attempted manslaughter.

So, has the word gone out from the AG that no arrests or charges will be made against any blacks beating up/killing someone of another race, even if concrete proof that the incident was racially motivated? This is pure lawlessness. This is setting up a mood for someone to take matters into their own hands and then the chaos to begin. This is a setup, hoping to trap a fed-up gun owner, then Obama make an executive order demanding guns be confiscated or registered , etc. We need prayer for our country in the worst way. Who is listening?
Not Special Ops Bill| 4.25.12 @ 9:47AM
It's his side of the debate over race that Americans are too cowardly to engage in. His side: the government refuses to hold black people accountable for their crimes. The peoples' side of the debate: as yet not clearly stated, but much inchoate rage.

Hey Mr. Hillyer, since you obviously couldn't speak to ALL the neighbors, let give you a hand with the one's you didn't have a chance to get to:
Some neighbors said they have witnessed belligerence from Owens in the past, and police reports show that he has gotten into scrapes before with others — both black and white.
“He probably did as much to instigate this as anybody,” said Marsha Skipper, who lives next door.
Still, the neighbor said he has had issues with Owens, as well. He said he has called the police 4 times for what he described as “anger management” issues but declined to elaborate.
Another neighbor, who also asked to remain anonymous, said the black children have been “100 percent respectful” to him.
The neighbor, who is white, said Owens struck him one time and routinely uses obscenities in front of children.
“Matthew has a lot of problems,” he said. “I’ve been waiting for this to happen because that’s what he does. He’s pushed a number of people.”

Let me get this straight. If my neighbor irritates me, 20 of my closest friends and I can go up onto his porch and near beat him to death. Mr. Outrage, you are irritating me. Where do you live?
dc| 4.25.12 @ 10:22AM
Mr Outrage lives in a dreamy world of his own making, which doesn't exist, and never has. I hear Rodney King has spoken up on this, Mr "Can't We All Just Get Along?" Answer, more gruesomely obvious by the day, is NO. We can't. So any non-black who isn't stocking up on guns and ammunition, and preparing for a civil war (the flashpoint of which likely will be some "racial" incident) is a negligent fool. If Mr Owens had been armed properly, the animal mob that beat him would have scattered like cockroaches upon the first shot fired. Don't leave your house in a "mixed" (meaning, some blacks) neighborhood without packing a CC piece that you are confident in using. And teach your kids and wife to shoot straight, consistent trigger pulls, and no mercy.
It's our kids or theirs who will suffer, and I prefer to make it theirs. Pretty simple--prepare or die, or a best, get beaten to a pulp.

Actually, Outraged, I believe Mr. Hillyer's article states the following:
"But the composite picture from white witnesses about what happened last Saturday night leaves almost no doubt that racial animus played the major role in the vicious beating. Their account, perhaps one-sided but told quietly and with obvious sincerity, follows."
Having proffered that what he is recounting is a biased account, he goes on about Mr. Owens:
“Yes, Mr. Owens apparently had run-ins with black neighbors before. There was another incident where he was reportedly hit in the head (once) with a stick.”
“Owens, who is no shrinking violet, has a criminal record that includes arrests for domestic assault and driving under the influence.”
For the want of a better expression, I don't see Owens being whitewashed here. Are you aware of anything that he has done that merits being dragged from his home by 20 people and being beaten into critical condition?

By the way, Mr. Hillyer, I have but one objection to your otherwise excellent piece: Mobile is as Deep South as any city you could name. Perhaps the reason they weathered desegregation more peacefully is because it came to them after the eye-opening tragedies of Birmingham. And also because the public schools of Mobile and Montgomery remained essentially segregated afterwards. Whites who could afford it sent their children to private schools or abandoned the inner cities.
I live in a suburb south of Birmingham. We have very diverse ethnicities in our community and schools, some of the best in the state. The principal of my granddaughter's elementary school is an excellent educator and a fine and ethical black man. The best possible example for boys of all races. My neighbor and friend is a hard-working, honest black man. I have other black friends. My grandson played soccer on a team with boys and girls of African, Asian, East Indian descent, as well as one or two blue-eyed blondes.

Here is another story of a Scottish woman (the Scots have amazing diversity) mowing down a black man. It is time to take action. She should have sacrificed herself for the liberal vision of racial justice. She should have understood that after four hundred years of oppression he had to stand up for himself (really neither one of them looks that old but that is how the story goes). Instead she shot someone which was so violent. William Tucker will soon come out with an article saying that people should call the police in such situations. It is all so messy, really. I am glad I don't live in a neighborhood like that, you know where crazy Scottish woman are illegally discharging weapons all the time. This smells of vigilantism. Thank goodness Mr. White Boy Owens did the decent thing and let himself be beat and didn't do the foolish thing of defending himself. Mr. Tucker would have had a hard time sleeping if he had done such a thing. See how it works when it is done right, the police arrived to take statements and wonder whether they had a hate crime on their hands. If it is not a hate crime they can't be bothered to investigate a mere assault when there are important crimes to go after.

Five years ago, I was umpiring a men's softball game in New Jersey. Sudden screams from across the street called attention to a black male teenager dragging a black female teenager into the street by the hair, striking her repeatedly in the face. Some players from one of the teams ran over and broke up the beating, as somebody called the police.
None of the players (all white) did anything but pull the male off the female and stand between them. Nobody roughed up the male or even touched him, except to keep him away from the girl.
When the police arrived, the girl would not speak, so the officers—refusing to make an arrest despite dozens of witnesses willing to give information—drove the girl home and told the male to leave the area.
Fifteen minutes later, I noticed a middle-aged black woman standing near the backstop. A dozen or so black adults gathered beyond the outfield fence. The woman soon raised her arm and then brought it down quickly, which turned out to be signal for about 20 black teens to race onto the field from different directions and attack the team that had broken up the fight, in particular, one player who had pulled the male off the female.
That team was mostly older guys, and they tried to calm things down, but their opponents were younger and tougher and tore into the black kids.
I was pleased to see the attack at least somewhat thwarted, and when the police arrived, the blacks scattered into the rabbit warrens of that once-decent neighborhood.
Even with all the witnesses (and some minor injuries), the police refused to make any arrests or even investigate the matter. The league rescheduled to another field the remaining games of the team that had been targeted.
The next night, my partner was a black umpire who lives in that area. He told me that the kid had gone home and reported that he was walking past the ball field when a bunch of white guys jumped him and beat him.
dc| 4.25.12 @ 10:28AM
Shocking... a black thug lying to incite anti-white racial violence? Too bad NJ doesn't have a concealed carry law. Some of the hit mob would be six feet under by now, though the successful shooters likely would have had to defend murder charges (though that's true anywhere in the Northeast). That kind of mob-inciting crap won't fly in most parts of the South or Mountain West (especially the latter). People there are armed to the teeth and well-trained, non-hesitant shooters. Prepare or risk your or your family's life.
Renfield| 4.25.12 @ 10:42AM
"Too bad NJ doesn't have a concealed carry law."
True. NJ is one of the worst states when it comes to respect for the Second Amendment (along with Hawaii, Maryland, and Illinois). That's one reason I moved to Alabama a few years ago (besides cutting my property tax bill by 93%). In fact, I was in Mobile earlier this month, and I find this story of the beating almost unbelievable. In Dixie, I haven't encountered a remotely hostile black person yet.
Not so in the many years I lived in the northeast, though. People pick on the south, but there's far more racial animosity in New Jersey and New York than down here.
Doctor Right| 4.25.12 @ 11:38AM
I have lived all of my life on the east coast, and most of it in the northeast (Maryland, Massachusetts, and New Jersey). I was also fortunate enough to spend two years in the GREAT state of South Carolina.
I will say, categorically, that the places with the most racial tension, violence, and strife are in the northeast. Not surprisingly, these are largely blue states controlled by Democrats. Taxes are high, welfare and "entitlements" are continuous, crime is rampant (in the cities), and voters are speaking with their feet by relocating elsewhere.
That wasn't the case in South Carolina. Now bear in mind that the Confederate flag still flies from the South Carolina Statehouse in downtown Columbia (just below the state flag), so the conventional wisdom (aided by the idiots in the media) is that South Carolina MUST be a hot-bed of racism.
WRONG.
Regarding race relations, South Carolina was the best, most tranquil place I've ever lived. The racial tensions I experienced as a young undergrad at UMass in the 1980's - a university that likes to toot it's multicultural horn - were nonexistent at the University of South Carolina.
Black and white students lived together, cheered on the Gamecocks football team together, and partied together at "Five-Points", where all the bars and clubs are in Columbia. Sure, there were black student organizations and fraternities, but so what? The tension didn't exist.
I've heard people who live in other southern states say similar things. My wife is a native Texan, and she agrees. But when I try telling this to a native of the northeast, they practically refuse to accept this as even a possibility.
I've heard it theorized that race relations in the South are perhaps better because the south was forced to endure culture-shock starting in 1865, and has had more time to acclimate.
While there may be a kernel of truth there, I think it's more likely due to two other reasons in particular:
1. The influence of religion, particularly Christianity, is stronger in the south, and religion has played a uniting role, especially since 1965 and the Civil Rights Act. Belief in Christ transcends racial animosity.
2. The northern elites have always been NIMBY on matters of race. Even in the days of abolitionism, many in the north never would have predicted (or welcomed) the mass influx of southern blacks to northern cities after the Civil War, and in the first part of the 20th century.
Renfield| 4.25.12 @ 2:12PM
Great post, Doctor. When my wife told her friends in New York City that we were moving to Alabama, they castigated her for somehow betraying her values and going to live in the land of racists and racism. How could she live in that horrible state? And so on. Apparently these "sophisticated" New Yorkers naively bought the media stereotype of the south, complete with pot-bellied sheriffs with their big cigars and Barney Fife deputies, and rusty pickups full of rednecks with their cans of beer.
I think you're right about Christianity and NIMBYs. Another important factor that facilitated desegregation was that blacks and whites knew each other in the south, but not so much in the north.
Personally, I like living in a culture in which younger people (of all races) call older people (of all races) "ma'am" and "sir," and where you simply do not hear foul language, particularly in public settings. But I'm old-fashioned, I guess.
Herb| 4.25.12 @ 3:13PM
Reading nice things about South Carolina used to be as rare as snow in June. I love my adopted state where people of all races end conversations with "have a blessed day!", and I wouldn't trade the Palmetto State for the world. Thank you for your kind words.
Just one update, the Confederate flag was removed from the State House dome in 2000, and now flies next to the Confederate Soldier monument facing Gervais street. For what it's worth the NAACP imposed a boycott on this state over the flag and moving it failed to satisfy them as they kept changing the rules. It's fun to watch when Jesse & Al and other black notables make elaborate arrangements to stay over in private homes rather than patronize local hotels. Must respect the boycott, after all.

Do you honestly expect the likes of Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton, two of the most dispicable human beings that inhabit the earth, to do the right thing?
This is how the Left operates. This is how they tear societies apart, for their own personal glory and political advantages.
The left are imploding, everything they profess to believe in is being exposed as a fraud and and lie. The Zimmerman case is not about facts, didn't you get the memo from the Duke Lacrosse case?As the reprehensible pseudo reporter, D hack, Joe Klein has told us, the new media standard is facts are not relevant, only the left's perception of how things in America stand.
As Klein famously said after Duke Lacrosse, "the facts were wrong, the scenerio was correct". This is the Dan Rather school of journalism on steriods. Zimmerman fits only the initial concept that the left need in order to operate, a "white" (white hispanic) on black crime. The facts are irrelevant, the left then skip the rest of the book and go immediately to the conclusion, that this was a crime of racism.
This is America today. Juxtapose this article with the article on voter fraud perpetuated by Obozo, Holder, and the entire D party apparatus, and what's coming this summer and fall will not be a pretty sight.

Note the comment about the white person in a suit and his concerns. This image and concern had been created by the black community to the point one will assume some type of confrontation when with a black person. This is sad because there are more blacks, many that I have known, I would like as my neighbor. The community itself must correct itself. More money does not change attitudes of an individual. Until the community as a whole gets it act together, they will have a harder time improving their position in society. Others have come to this country and done well. I feel that the black community is held in modern slavery with welfare programs.

The Trayvon and Owens incidents are music to the ears of Ruger stockholders, and those of Colt, Browning, etc…. Barack Obama my soon be overtaken by Al Sharpton as "Gun Salesman of the Year," to the detriment of the anti-gun lobby.
Couple of questions: First, suppose George Zimmerman had been unarmed. Would he be in ICU? Second, what if Matthew Owens had been armed? What would he be in ICU? I would rather be Zimmerman than Owens.
The point to take away is that the police cannot protect the public. Their job is to investigate crimes, identify and apprehend criminals. The justice system may take them off the streets, but you'll still be dead or injured or otherwise harmed.
The person responsible for your self defense is you. Guns are simple machines. They are neither good nor evil. Get one; learn to use it and keep it within reach at all times.
The actions of this mob were uncharacteristic of Americans of any race, which is why we can neither tolerate nor excuse them. Owens told some kids not to play basketball in the street. If my son complained that someone had told him not to play in the street, my reaction would not be to pick up a paint can and attack my neighbor.
I live on a 20 MPH street at the foot of a steep hill. When I'm outside walking my dogs or cutting my grass, I tell speeders (usually kids) to slow down. Never has a parent come on my property with hostile intent, armed with a can of paint, a chair leg or a set of brass knuckles. Their reaction, like most of us, would be to take away the keys and bring him down to apologize.
Where I live, everyone is polite, respectful and heavily armed.

So *no* arrests have been made, despite white witnesses who saw around 20 animals attack one guy who--at most--was guilty of being a bad neighbor.
I hope people (especially white conservatives) begin to realize just *why* Jim Crow laws existed. It wasn't because white Southerners have an inate irrational hatred for blacks, but that Jim Crows helped protect decency and civilization in areas which had white/black division. This beating would never have happened had the blacks feared for their lives because a white mob twenty times as numerous would have hunted them down following the beating.

As to Trayvon, recall that school personnel found women's jewelry in his locker that was turned in to the police. Why has the jewelry not been traced to its rightful owners by the police.
My speculation: The police already have traced it and it was determined that jewlery came from homes in the same neighborhood (where his father's girlfriend lives and where he was shot) and that he was up to no good on the night he was shot.
It is a cover up.
albert constantine jr.| 4.25.12 @ 1:20PM
I have asked that question and not yet received an answer.
Have the number of burglaries in the gated community increased, decreased or stayed the same since the February shooting?
albert constantine jr.| 4.25.12 @ 1:32PM
Having spent a lot of time in Asia, I have seen a few Asian mobs. I also have seen the St. Patrick's Day Parade fall on the actual holiday in my majority black city, and seen the mildly disorderly throng of melanin-inhibited alcohol-impaired celebrants displace for a while the generally darker hued residents as occupants of the streets.
I think the temptation for mindless mob activity lurks below the surface in most people, regardless of race or ethnicity. Where individuals have learned to control their baser impulses, there is less of this activity, and where they have not, there is more, generally along with a whole host of additional pathological behaviors.
Todd S| 4.25.12 @ 2:45PM
The problem is the acceptance in the black community that they don't have to be responsible for themselves and controlling their baser instincts. You are quite correct to state those baser instincts lie within us all regardless of race but civilized society demands that we regulate our behavior or we are taken out of civilized society. Also the Judeo-Christian morality of treating others as we would want ourselves to be treated. There is very little of civilized society in our inner cities today because there is no expectation for them to act civilized and they are given handouts simply for existing. We can thank the liberals "Great Society" for this terrible outcome and complete breakdown of the family unit in the black community.
Oldefarte| 4.25.12 @ 2:14PM
Quin, you know how much I have historically enjoy and admire your editorials, but I am going to respectfully and partially disagree with you on this issue. You're absolutely correct that it's not any one of these race hustling non-ministers' fault for what other individuals do [although they are guilty of riot instigation no doubt]. Who are guilty and responsible are the perpertrators of this asinine incident, and they all are IRRATIONAL ANIMALS [not humans]. If they had a historical gripe/beef with the victim, then RATIONAL HUMAN BEINGS should have exercised their grievences within the law by legal means. Have they not heard of what are commonly referred to as THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND ATTORNEYS/LAWYERS? Are they that GD stupid [apparently so] and completely devoid of any rational intelligence? Are they ANIMALS [yes] not deserving of respect from the family of human beings? If the victim has previously and unlawfully harrassed them, then the police should have been contacted whereupon an arrest and legal conviction would have rightfully followed. The old west was famous for shoot-um-up cowboys with gunfights and fist brawling, but that was a long time ago. We now have laws and police authority that are in place to handle disputes between individuals. That said, anyone be they black, white, yellow, brown, red or whatever color of skin that in mob fashion replaces the police function is an brainless, dumbars animal who should be arrested, legally tried within the law and convicted if proven guilty. I'm sick and tired of this crapola constantly about racism, gentrification. disenfranchisement, discrimination etc which is BS within current times. There exists to handle such incidences the legal mechanism within this nation, and if same does not fulfill its public obligation as such, then they should be likewise prosecuted and convicted. At the Catholic university that i graduated from years ago, it was ingrained in me numerous times the principle of FOR EVERY RIGHT, THERE IS AN EQUAL AND CORRESPONDING REPSONSIBILITY [ie, if one has the right to public education, then they have a responsibility to obtain an education from same]. These rioting animals had their rights to the law, but they ignored same and did not act responsibly in rioting and taking the law into their own hands. Again, if the legal and political authorites do not adequately and thoroughly arrest and prosecute these animals for this crime against the victim, they should be forced to resign from office and/or defeated at their next election by the public at large!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone with a half ounce of common sense KNOWS THAT! If I command or tell YOU to go rob a bank and then you do so, whose faults is it? Are you therefore innocent of guilt because you DUMBARSINGLY followed my orders to rob the bank? Is not perhaps Nancy Reagan's etc words applicable here, in that you should JUST SAY NO? Jackson, Sharpton etc are race-baiting community organizing hustlers[as is the POTUS] but if everyone ignored their messaging intelligently or common sensically, would not these morons simply be SPITTING IN THE WIND VERBALLY SPEAKING? An individual with normal intelligence receives trillions of information messages 24-7, some good, some bad, some usful, some garbage, etc. Their brain works as a computer that filters out the former and deletes the latter. These rioting animals should have reasoned that Jackson's/Sharpton's etc messages were as you say '''''BS'''''' and therefore not actied upon same, but they did not do so. Why, because they are stupid animals without the mental power of reasoning!!!!!!!!!
Nathan | 4.25.12 @ 2:28PM
Yes Quinn you are absolutely correct in your assessment. The problem is that this IS an actual valid hate crime - that is NOT being reported by civil rights leaders; whereas Trayvon Martin is NOT a racial issue yet is being pursued as one by racist civil rights leaders.
albert constantine jr.| 4.25.12 @ 2:51PM
Nathan;
Since we hold so many divergent views on many issues, it seems unusual that we might share some thoughts in common on this.
Following the Thomas Sowell article yesterday, I posted to the effect that the encounter between Martin and Zimmerman may not have a racial component in what transpired, and that it was injected by others after the fact by racist opportunists such as Sharpton, who apparently felt that Martin’s right to be shot to death only by a member of his own race or ethnicity was violated.
As Mr. Hilyer points out here, there is some evidence that this beating of Mr. Owens was not only based on the hatred of Mr. Owens personally as a troublesome neighbor, but that somehow his whiteness was also the basis of his being beaten black and blue. The absence of a response from the likes of Sharpton and Holder for the potential role they play in inciting this behavior speaks volumes.
Scontrone| 4.25.12 @ 3:02PM
The press and the law enforcement authorities are making a huge mistake by ignoring increasingly violent black on white crime. They don't want to rock the boat, but in the process the white community is increasingly of the belief that they are on their own. Gun sales are way up, and along with it a willingness in blogs such as this to warn of (and seemingly welcome) armed retaliation. If Holder and other law enforcement agencies won't address black hate crimes, be assured that the white community will do so in a very violent way. If that happens we will have a race war that will set us back a century. I fear we are much closer to that than we may think.
Bill X| 4.25.12 @ 3:22PM
It's an unfortunate fact that, on average, blacks hate whites 10 times as much as whites hate blacks. That's why blacks see racism everywhere.
Not Special Ops Bill| 4.25.12 @ 4:29PM
Somebody pointed out that there are about 2 black people for every 10 white people. So if 10 white people make one racial slur each toward black people, the black people hear 10 slurs. If both black people make racial slurs toward white, the 10 white people hear only 2 racial slurs. So black people can never catch up on the slurs.
The only answer is for no one to make any slurs at all. Then the ratio is 0:0.

Keep your anger and response individual.
I have been watching this rising phenomenon for a while and have a strong sense that it is being orchestrated for a political purpose.
I think race is being used as a tool for O’s re-election, minimally to keep the base fired up although I suspect much worse.
Some of the racial comments I have read are frightening in their overstatement. This president and his minions are seeking to divide us along racial lines, along economic lines etc. Don’t get caught up in it.
If someone regardless of color attacks me or my family I will direct my response in a very controlled manner to their center of mass. Whether they attack me because of my color, political persuasion, age, or just because they want to take what is mine, my response will be the same, 230 grains at 852 fps. I am and always have been responsible for my own safety and the safety of my family. I am armed and proficient in the use of a wide variety of weapons. I do not and will not look for trouble; I actively seek to avoid places where I might encounter trouble. If however it seeks me out or worse yet my family my response will be immediate, brutal and fatal, without concern for race creed sexual orientation or national origin. It also will be exclusively focused on the individual or individuals actually attacking, not their neighbor or their uncles or their brother or sister or cousins.
As a believer in individual liberty I also am a believer in individual responsibility, socialists subscribe to the theory or group rights and group guilt.
Do not allow yourself to be manipulated by people seeking to control us by dividing us.
One last point.
No one ‘wants’ a race war, some may think they do but they are fanaticizing without any connection to what that reality would look like. Recall the tribal genocide that erupted in Uganda when Clinton was in office. Do you want to expose your children or grandchildren to that kind of madness? Direct your ire not at some group of ‘others’ but at the politicians and media hacks that think fomenting this kind of insanity is somehow beneficial to their political aspirations.

The Democratic Plantation
The Democratic Party seems to have a lock on the non Caucasian vote, and knowledge of history would preclude this strange relationship.
First historical note is that the Democratic Party was started by slaveholders to perpetuate slavery, and this thread continues through the Democratic Party to this day.
Blacks "are inferior to the whites in the endowments of both of body and mind."
--Thomas Jefferson, 1787
Co-founder of the Democratic Party (along with Andrew Jackson)
President, 1801-09
If blacks were given the right to vote, that would "place every splay-footed, bandy-shanked, hump-backed, thick-lipped, flat-nosed, woolly-headed, ebon-colored Negro in the country upon an equality with the poor white man."
--Rep. Andrew Johnson, (D., Tenn.), 1844
The Democrats were running the plantation since before this country was formed and before the Democrats became a political party
The control of the subservient has been, and is their goal.
I know, that sounds a little harsh, but in retrospect it seems to make the most sense. Their fights against emancipation, including voters rights to blacks, women, Hispanics, and Orientals Then of course how can we forget the Muscle of the Democratic Party in the teens, twenties , and thirties, The Klu Klux Klan!!
For the modern version see the SEIU. If you have a hard time believing this just look up the term “Klan Bake” and wonder why this was not in your 5th grade history book.
Who have been the most obvious racist Presidents?
1. Woodrow Wilson
Wilson’s two-volume book, “A History of the American People”, was so racially biased that D.W. Griffith quoted the sitting president’s writings in his 1915 silent film, The Birth of a Nation, “The white men were roused by a mere instinct of self preservation… until at last there had sprung into existence a great Ku Klux Klan, a veritable empire of the South, to protect the Southern country.” Not only did Wilson proudly stand by those words, but he also had a private showing of the movie at the White House. After seeing The Birth of a Nation, Wilson said “It is like writing history with lightning, my only regret is that it is all so true.”
A new incarnation of the KKK is directly attributed to the great success of Griffith’s film. The Klan soared in popularity thanks in part to support stemming from the highest office in the land.
Woodrow Wilson took advantage of his presidency to help correct many of what he considered to be the wrongs of the Reconstruction. Wilson believed white southerners to be the only real citizens and feared what might arise from a south “ruled by an ignorant and inferior race.”
2. Franklin Delano Roosevelt
From the time FDR took office in 1933, he absolutely refused to desegregate the government. His predecessor, Woodrow Wilson, brought Jim Crow to Washington. Wilson instituted separate facilities -- like drinking fountains and restrooms -- for blacks. He moved black employees into their own buildings or, if that wasn't possible, had partitions set up around them. The Republican platform of June 24, 1940 called for integration of the armed forces, but for the balance of his time in office, FDR refused to order it. FDR refused to even endorse a federal anti-lynch law!
And, let's not forget how FDR threw 110,000 loyal Japanese-Americans into concentration camps, seized their properties and turned their property and possessions over to whites.
3. Lyndon Baines Johnson
Johnson voted with his fellow Southern Democrats in Congress, against civil rights measures such as banning lynching, and eliminating poll taxes.
“President Truman's civil rights program is a farce and a sham--an effort to set up a police state in the guise of liberty. I am opposed to that program. I have voted against the so-called poll tax repeal bill. . .. I have voted against the so-called anti-lynching bill." - Rep. Lyndon B. Johnson (D., Texas), 1948
"These Negroes, they're getting pretty uppity these days and that's a problem for us since they've got something now they never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness. Now we've got to do something about this, we've got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down, not enough to make a difference. For if we don't move at all, then their allies will line up against us and there'll be no way of stopping them, we'll lose the filibuster and there'll be no way of putting a brake on all sorts of wild legislation. It'll be Reconstruction all over again." - Sen. Lyndon B. Johnson (D., Texas), 1957
Johnson was merely an unprincipled politician who later out of political expediency used the civil rights issue when he realized the worth of the "Black Vote". However he claimed to be an idealist who dreamed of making America a "Great Society". It was Johnson who put the presidential signature to the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
Are these not the things heroes are made of?
Note, all of these men represented the Democratic Party.
Did you know that according to the Democratic Party’s own history, Barrack Obama is not the first “Black” President? Warren G. Harding was proclaimed and advertized as 1/8 “Black”. Oh by the way, Warren was a Republican and the Democrats were trying to derail his election. They felt they “must put that black man in his place!”
Wow, talk about Political Expedience!!
So, they lost the slaves on the plantations, but they never lost the slave owner attitude.
Now they knew that the days of holding people against their wills were over, so how could they repopulate the plantation?
The Democrats knew they were going to have to reform the plantation, and the slave attitude, so they chose to use the Federal Government to do it!
On the plantation of old how did the slave owner keep the slaves enslaved? He kept the slave dependent on the master, for food clothing and lodging. This worked best if the slave was born into slavery, because they knew no other life or living options. To keep them uninformed about options reading was actually illegal for a slave, and to teach one to read? To the Progressive Democrat of that time, Sin!!
Another control method of many was the destruction, or not allowing forming, of the nuclear family. Slaves were not allowed to marry, nor create any form of family relationship; therefore the slave’s allegiance could only be to the master!
On the Democratic plantation of today they have done the same thing, it’s called “The Great Society”.
Now many have said “Here is proof of L.B.J.’s transformation” but remember what he said?
"These Negroes, they're getting pretty uppity these days and that's a problem for us since they've got something now they never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness. Now we've got to do something about this, we've got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down, not enough to make a difference”
How does that fit into their narrative? Ummm, he changed his mind? Or how about he gave “them a little something, just enough to quiet them down, not enough to make a difference”
And while on this new plantation they were picking new votes for their Democratic Masters!
There is a thread that runs throughout the history of the Democratic Party to this day!
How Ironic the only defense the party of slaveholders has to the people whose beliefs freed the slaves in the first round is “RACIST” and the slaves trapped on the Democratic Plantation agree out of fear of losing their sustenance, Their spot in the Masters heart, and the Plantation!

Another example of "conservative" thought, a la Jonah Goldberg, in action, with the usual cherry-picked facts. For what seems to be the one-hundredth time, "Democrat" and "liberal" did NOT necessarily mean the same thing in the South, and usually meant the opposite. EVERYONE in the pre-1970s South, whether anti-Klan or pro-Klan, was a Democrat. Party membership came almost with the birth certificate back then. The Klan, moreover, was a secret society; it didn't operate as a Democratic Party think tank. Secrecy meant an ability to intimidate. The Klan also was distinctly Southern Protestant, almost as anti-Catholic as anti-black.
The real issue, ever so cleverly camouflaged by fake conservatives crying "liberal racism" (forget it, guys, you'll never out-Left the Left) is that the Democrats have evolved into the anti-white party: the party of affirmative action, ghetto lottery lawsuits, an expanding pro-black welfare state (at white expense), and shakedowns for slavery "reparations." Everything else is irrelevant. Nobody gives a rat's arse about the "revelation" that future Sen. Robert Byrd some 70 years ago was a Klansman.
Forget about attracting the black vote. The Republican Party needs to attract the voting bloc that dares not speak its name: the white vote.

America IS a Racist country, just like all the other countries that have a wide enough view of the world to embrace a philosophy less divisive than tribalism. A note on deletions: Usually I don't do this, but I myself am the one who has been deleting some of the comments. The criteria are simple: if there are profanities that I see, I will delete the comment. If there are racist statements made (as in making negative blanket statements about all black people, rather than a more specific point), I will delete it. If there is something that seems to go beyond a pledge to protect oneself, and instead a comment actually seems to aggressively encourage violence, I will delete it. Period. That's simple: profanity, racism, and violence are forbidden here. So are other abuses if I see them, but those are the obvious ones. This is a civilized site.

One of the inherent difficulties with that approach is when a post is removed, the subsequent responses that criticize, amplify or merely comment upon what was written become difficult to follow.
As an example, around 1:32 p.m. today, I responded to an assertion by jstwndrng that (in essence) only blacks had riots. Once his original post and subsequent response are removed, my post loses some of its context, and it might appear that I'm trying to broaden the racial discord by dragging in Asians.

There is the case these days of a young black male killed by a neighborhood watch guard in a gated community in Florida. The TV and newspapers show the black fellow by a photograph when the victim was a 12-year old youngster; the watchman is a half-Hispanic whom the papers call a white man. The victim in reality was a 17-year old hooded “gangsta” casing the joint for any empty houses; he is 6’-3” tall fellow walking at night in a strange gated neighborhood, where he gained access by jumping the fence. When challenged by the guard he attacked him and beat him to the ground, and then proceeded to break his nose and left him there all bloodied, according to a witness. The watchman called 911 to ask for police help, and then got his gun and killed “the young man” who was trying to walk away while the police was taking their time in arriving there. All TV’s and newspapers are in racial panic, accusing the police there of racial bigotry; all the usual racebaiters are there to organize protests – Sharpton, Jackson, Farakhan; the Black Panthers issued a reward of $10,000 to whomever would kill the guard. Black churches are in mourning with vigils for the “young victim” of racism. The Attorney General Holder promises a federal hate crime prosecution unless the local authorities act expeditiously. President Obama expressed his condolences to the family of “the young boy who could have well been his own son” if he had one. Well – “the young boy” shown in that old photograph by all TV’s and in newspapers is in reality is a huge hooded gangster with a history of school suspensions for vandalism, jewelry theft, and drug dealing. He was dealt with rather mildly – because he was black! Any white hoodlum would have been sent to a correction facility. The young criminal left him there on the ground and tried to walk away, but the guard got his gun and shot him dead. A grand jury will take up the case in a couple of weeks. The local police chief, a white man, left his place in favor of a black officer while the case is going through the legal paces.

Somehow I do not believe that as there was a lynching of a young black man in Mobile in 1981 or 1982 that integration went smoothly in Mobile and there were no incidents. Racism does swing both ways, I certainly will acknowledge that, but do not promulgate the Polly Anna nonsense that Mobile was where the dominant white class welcomed Alabamians of color into full social and political equuilvalence. It still is not so.

This is why I laugh when I hear the radio ad telling me I should lie around people of different colors, it strikes me as funny because they don't want to live around anymore than I want to live around them.
