The Republican presidential campaign thus far has been so
bizarre and, frankly, depressing, that some of us have failed to
adequately cover worrisome developments on a number of other
important fronts. By ineptness and, worse, by deliberate design,
Barack Obama daily makes this nation weaker abroad, less free (and
more authoritarian) at home, economically more feeble, and in the
civic realm
more bitterly divided than ever. Meanwhile, ominous
developments crowd the world stage. In short, we’re in a big heap
of trouble.
The recent litany of Obama’s odiousness begins with his
growing, unambiguous war against traditional Christianity. He has
now left no room for any pretense otherwise to be believed. Right
on the heels of a unanimous Supreme Court, including his
own two appointees,
smacking down his administration’s attempt to kill the
“ministerial exemption” for employment practices of faith-based
institutions, an unchastened Obama has
decided that even faith-based organizations must provide
insurance that covers contraception — even including
abortifacients.
This is not just a narrow policy disagreement; it is, as
Bishop David A. Zubik of Pittsburgh
wrote, the president’s way of saying “To Hell With You” to
people of faith — “To hell with your religious beliefs. To hell
with your religious liberty. To hell with your freedom of
conscience.” Zubik continued: “This is government by fiat that
attacks the rights of everyone — not only Catholics; not only
people of all religion. At no other time in memory or history has
there been such a governmental intrusion on freedom not only with
regard to religion, but even across-the-board with all
citizens.”
Obama’s broadsides, plural, against religious liberty are
only a part of his radical transgressions against the U.S.
Constitution. Conservatives are
rightly up in arms about Obama’s illegal
recess appointments. Obamacare, of course, contains several
anti-Constitutional
abominations, including the “individual mandate” and the
Independent Payment Advisory Board. Meanwhile, his administration
is flagrantly violating precedent by trying to force explicit
hiring quotas on the Fire Department of New York, in a case in
which a key amicus brief was filed on January 24 at the U.S. Second
Circuit Court of Appeals.
And so on.
Abroad, this man leading the Occupy the Oval Office
movement is even worse. He threw away a clear victory in Iraq and
may be doing the same in Afghanistan. His fecklessness regarding
Iran, perfectly in line with his long record of favoring Shia
interests, is now leading to a crisis of the first order. His
strange mishandling of the Egyptian revolution has left the United
States with very little leverage in a country that for more than
three decades was a major American ally, and has left Coptic
Christians
scared to death. He long ago insulted allies such as Israel and
Great Britain, repeatedly and with malice aforethought. He seems to
have no real relationship of any positive nature with any allied
foreign leader, perhaps with the exception of those in Brazil,
whose oil exploration he subsidizes while blocking tens of
thousands of jobs that would come from domestic energy production
he has snuffed out. And he seems hell-bent on a mission to starve
the American armed forces to dangerous thinness.
Killing the private college-loan industry. Hobbling
private for-profit colleges. Illegally seizing auto companies.
Whoring for Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. Turning public policy over
to thuggish union bosses and destroying jobs in South Carolina to
do so. Turning the Justice Department into a thoroughly corrupt,
lawless, racialist, hyper-politicized, gun-running,
vote-fraud-enabling, bullying arm of the left wing of the
Democratic Party. Regulating the life out of almost every aspect of
the economy. Buying political support by funneling taxpayer money
to failing private alternative-energy companies. Lying with the
Supreme Court sitting in front of him about what they decided in
the Citizens United case. Lying about so many things that
one loses count. Roiling racial tensions every chance he
gets.
This is a man who has no interest in serving the United
States that most of us know and love. Instead, he’s a man who, by
hook and definitely by crook, serves the despicable vision of the
utterly foreign America he wants to impose on us.
Four more years of this guy in power, and we are doomed.
He is a menace, and, by every legal means possible, he must be
stopped — and his maladministration reversed and thoroughly
buried.

Ignorance empowers. Your shopping list of abhorrant attacks against the Republic would get a "ho, hum" from over fifty per-cent of the voting block. Let the requiem commence with the "Lacrymosa".
Or, we can push back. We are the ones in the corner through attempts to placate the beast that has put us there.
Thank you, Quin. I never envisioned a day when I would feel helpless and terrified of my own government. The alien has made it so.
Timothy L. Pennell| 2.3.12 @ 9:39AM
The "Alien".
Indeed.
Dear Quin: Where have you been, lo these many years? "By ineptness and, worse, by deliberate design, Barack Obama daily makes us weaker abroad, less Free (more Authoritarian) at home, economically more feeble, and more bitterly divided than ever."
Not bad, except for the 2nd word. "Ineptness". Please explain what you mean by "Ineptness"? Cause, from where I'm standing, this is the Greatest Military Campaign since Alexander.
He has done to this Country, in 3 Years, what the Soviets were unable to do in 50. He has done in 3 Years, what the Arab World has been unable to do in Millennium. He is bringing them all together, under one Banner, for a Single Purpose. The Destruction of Israel.
Ineptness? He's been like a Maestro, the way he conducts his Allies in the Main Stream Media, Big Business, and the Big Wall Street Firms.
Like a Magician, he's always pulling the Impossible, out of his hat. He has a Treasury Secretary - Timothy Geithner - who doesn't Pay his Taxes.
He has a Jobs Commission guy - Jeffery Immelt - who only creates jobs in CHINA, by closing up his Factories here, and Re-opening them again, over there.
He has the Richest Man in America, lamenting the fact that he doesn't pay enough in taxes, while he has teams of Lawyers fighting the IRS, over the $2 MILLION that he OWES.
And, of course, he spends most of his time, these days, Vilifying the RICH, yet he keeps hanging out with them at the Golf Course, the White House, and in their Homes, when he goes on Vacation.
Like Hitler, he seeks to divide us by Wealth. He attacks the Rich Bankers and Hedge Fund Operators (JEWS) as he pretends to Defend the Great Unwashed.
Like Lenin, he attacks the Bourgeoisie. Like Mao and Castro, he attacks Capitalism.
Like Muhammad Ali, in his prime, he Jabs his pitiably weak Republican Opposition at will, against the ropes, until the time that he can Knock them out.
Like a Chess Master, he moves his Players (CZARS) around the Board. Always thinking 6 moves ahead. Like a Japanese Puppet Show, he only shows us, what he wants us to see. We never see the ones Controlling all of the movements. (CZARS)
I want you to go back and Re-Read what you have written. And, then I want you to look in the Mirror and ask yourself: "What the fck was I thinking about when I wrote this Stupid POS?"
You sound like you just woke up from a Freakin Coma! Stop getting Facials and having your nails done. We The People are living the things that this MFER is doing, every day.
How is it that you're OBLIVIOUS to what this MFer is doing? It's in his Books! It's what he ran on, ithe Election. Everything he's doing, is what HE TOLD US he would do.
Go to the Dictionary, and look up the word EVIL. And if that's not good enough? Look up Marxist. Look up Communist. Look up Maoist. Look up Narcissist, Nihilist, and Sociopath.

BULLSH*T!
What part of that don't you understand? He does, what he does, ON PURPOSE.
He threw Mubarak under the Bus, because he WANTS the Islamists in Charge of Egypt.
He got rid of Khaddafi because he WANTS the Islamists in charge of Libya.
He does NOTHING in Iran or Syria because he DOESN'T want to. The Islamists are already in charge in those Countries.
CAPICHE?
He was Running Guns to the mexican Drug Cartels because he WANTED as many people as possible, to be KILLED by those guns. Why? Because he WANTS to be able to use the DEAD, as props for more GUN CONTROL. (Read what CBS has written about this.)
He put a Drilling Moratorium in place, in direct defiance of a Federal Judge's Orders. He is in Contempt of Court, as we speak. He cancelled the Canadian Pipeline. He is doing everything in his power to KILL THIS COUNTRY.

I read the start of this thread and felt compelled to write something about it and hope it is not too late to be heard.
Quin does not deserve a defense as he sanctimonously moans about Obama and the damage he has done to this country while at the same time he has done everything with his poison pen to destroy the alternatives. Quin you are part of the problem. You misleed, you sabotage, and you undermine conservativism.
Timothy was correct in his objection to the percieved tone and underlying attitude of Quins's article and moaning about Obama. All too often we have heard so many pundits feign shock and disappointment about this presidency and that which has ocurred under it. Incompetence has been the key word and the distraction from the actual truth of the matter here. Obama is not incompetent, he is deliberate, conniving, and has an agenda.
Why does it matter? It matter because if you intend to ever effectively fight him and the Left you better wake up to this fact as you will never craft an effective counter response not recognizing this reality. Nor will you convince others that he is a real and present danger. Incomptence is in the eye of the beholder. People can live with it and give someone a second chance if they see improvement and learning on the job.
Quin's conclusions are dangerously stupid and simple minded. Timothy was justified in getting angry and frustrated with this line of thinking.
In fact, he is expressing the same outrage that many of us hold and is seeking that passion that Gingrich has shown that got so much positive reception.
This fear and uncomfortability with intense emotion and anger is a trait of many Americans today particularly that of the older generations. Conservatives themselves have been guilty of this for a long time and have a tradition of trying to be nice, mannered, and lacking passion. Romney is the classic example of the Republican. George Will is another. Their time is done. The Left know this well and has used it against conservatives.
So many of us are getting it finally and are starving for the kind of passion our founding fathers had about the very principles that we supposedly espouse. We are looking for leadership that will take no prisoners and will meet the Left head on with passion, truth, and spine.
Keep that passion Timothy and keep telling the truth. Do not water it down or temper it. The Left is counting on you to do otherwise.

I understand your frustration completely.
There is a huge difference in an inept president and on who is deliberatly destroying this country. This notion that Obama is merely over his head is niave.
The reality is, Obama is PURPOSELY destroying this country. That needs to be drilled into everyone. This simply isn't a case of Obama not knowing what he is doing. It is FAR FAR WORSE.
Until that is recognized fully, we cannot stop him. People must understand that everything Obama does has a purpose.
I get very frustrated when people say his is stupid or doesn't know what he is doing. Oh he knows exactly what he is doing. I also notice an arrogance with those who just say he is in over his head. Like it is impossible for someone to be doing these things deliberately. It is infuriating.

"He has done to this Country, in 3 Years, what the Soviets were unable to do in 50."
Rubbish.
Assigning Obama the status of global master-manipulator responsible for the decline of the USA makes about as much sense as appointing a house-plant to the position of poet-laureate. In short, it's absurd.
Obama is only a symptom, he is NOT the disease. He is the inevitable RESULT of 50+ years of leftist philosophies and policies, NOT the cause.
Skin-color aside, this clown could NEVER have been elected 50, 40, 30, or even 10 years ago. His election was brought about due to the left's continual, unrelenting assaults on our nation's character and institutions, assaults that have made us as a people too timid to stand-up and speak-out for the truth. And let's not forget the power of the ever-expanding welfare state either, to continually attract new voters by continually handing out more and more goodies. If you're going to overlook that as a contributing factor in Obama's election, then you don't see the forest for the trees.
I know how Obama acquired his reputation as a man of serious intellect - the media created it for him - but I don't know why anyone on our side believes it. All you have to do is watch him - the man is a complete and utter empty suit. He's a stumble-bum and an intellectual lightweight. He's never actually achieved anything of substance his entire life that wasn't given to him or prepared for him by others. As Rush Limbaugh liked to say, he's the "least qualified man in any room he walks into."
Obama is, in my humble opinion, a DUMB guy. His first term is a disaster. He's absolute, low-hanging fruit. Other than the union toadies, the welfare queens, and the sheep-like African-American population (sorry, but it's true; when >90% of any group continually supports one Party, it's a bad idea), I don't see him winning over any new converts, even with his supposed "Svengali"-type genius that you ascribe to him.
I've seen your posts before. They're long on verbiage, but short on insight. In other words, you're a long-winded Master of the Obvious. Unlike others on this board, I'm not impressed.

Iran. AFTER they have a nuke. They don't want it touched until then which is why they're so against an Israeli preemptive strike. Sounds weird but a war against a dangerous enemy is the only way Obama can now stay in power. Until Iran has a nuke, it will not be considered a real threat to the USA.

Many of us said from the beginning that this man was either the Antichrist or his puppet. In Hopey-Changey Land we were jeered and mocked and brushed aside. Now the emperor stands forth in his nakedness and even left-wing Democrats are standing up and saying, "Nowjustadamnedminutehere!" The First Brat has overreached itself and will reap the whirlwind.
As for Mitt Romney, keep in mind that this man is not a Christian, regardless of what he tries to say. He may be a good fellow with malice toward none and charity for all, but he's probably not going to stand with us when Armageddon comes. Mormons do not baptize in the name of the Trinity. That shuts the door between them and Christianity. I was a Mormon once. So were lots of people that are Christians now...or again. He won't be focusing on these things; his thing is money. You cannot serve God and Mammon. Even Clint Eastwood knew that.
PCP Smoker| 2.3.12 @ 7:56AM
They believed in some dude named Smith. Imagine that, a religion based on some dude named "Smith." Could they have not come up with something more exotic?
RICHARD| 2.3.12 @ 12:08PM
Hmm, maybe because it is true--or at least they believe that it is true and accept it on faith that it is true. How more bizarre is that than any other religion. Mohammed was transported to Jerusalem in a vision, or a God is born of a virgin, or a sea opened to allow a slave population escape and then closed to drown their pursuers. KNOW THYSELF--who said that?
Tony| 2.3.12 @ 3:07PM
Actually, a scientist recently demonstrated that certain winds of sufficient strength could cause a ford over the water that the Israelites crossed. Mohammed and Joseph Smith were cribbing; somebody once said that if you omitted "it came to pass," you'd cut the length of the Book of Mormon in half. But the incarnation of Christ is unexampled in previous Jewish or pagan lore. You'd have to address the theology here, and I'm suspecting you have no interest in doing so. The Incarnation is, in itself, no more outlandish but also no more startling than saying, as the evangelist John does, that "God is love." If you understand the one, you understand the other.
Todd S| 2.3.12 @ 4:16PM
Somebody once told you? That is some really compelling evidence Tony, that is a ludicrous claim that anyone who knew anything about it would know is bunk.
Doctor Right| 2.3.12 @ 6:19PM
"Actually, a scientist recently demonstrated that certain winds of sufficient strength could cause a ford over the water that the Israelites crossed. "
LOL!!!!
People will believe ANYTHING if it helps them to not believe in God!
But let's assume that this "scientist" is true...he's not, but let's go along with it:
1. How did Moses and the Israelites know these "winds" we're coming???? Did they just risk it? Because if you read the Book of Exodus, you'd realize that they specifically went the way that would take them TO the Red Sea. Now WHY would they do that, when they could have gone around it?
Hmmmmmm????
2. This scientist's theory accounts for exactly 1 of the miracles of the Bible. What about the rest???
Tick-Tock....
Doctor Right| 2.3.12 @ 6:13PM
One word - Apologetics.
Learn it.
Understand it.
Then you'll know that all religions are not the same.
Kingsfold| 2.3.12 @ 1:13PM
Why is "Smith" any less worthy a surname for a founder of a religion than "Luther" (Lutheranism) or "Tudor" (Anglicanism) or "Knox" (Presbyteriansim) or "Smyth" (Baptistism-- hey, wait!) or "Wesley" (Methodism). What a silly argument.
Todd S| 2.3.12 @ 2:27PM
Better than being in a religion that was formed because a King wanted to divorce and who was a tyrant and a whore-monger. Luther was a vicious anti-Semite and had his part in inspiring the Holocaust in Germany. The history of the Catholic Church oppression speaks for itself. If those are the real "Christians", count me out.
Tony| 2.3.12 @ 3:19PM
People don't really know much history. Everywhere in the world where we find human beings, we find avarice, lust for glory, tyrannies, theft, dissipation, homicide, and war. The greatest sins that are attributed to the Catholic Church in her two thousand years are a barefoot walk in the park compared with the sins of a single typical secular state in a single century: say, Japan, Germany, Italy, the Soviet Union, China, North Korea, North Vietnam, Cambodia, Albania, and Rumania in the twentieth; Prussia, Napoleonic France, the British Empire, and the American South in the nineteenth; etc.
It's as if we blame the Catholic Vikings for still squabbling amongst themselves and then being persuaded to impoverish themselves by defending the Byzantine Empire against the Turks -- and waging wars out in the east -- while not noticing that before they adopted Christianity, they were marauding up and down all the coasts of Europe.
But hey, half the time we Catholics are derided for being effeminate and pacifist, with our Marian devotions and our wealth of female saints, and the other half of the time we are scorned for being too warlike. Half the time we're made fun of for being earthy and drunken and too soft on the pleasures of the flesh, and the other half of the time we're accused of hating the body, as the Puritans are accused (wrongly) of having done. Half the time we're suspected for our automatic allegiance to the Pope, and the other half of the time the Pope is criticized for not waving some magic wand and making the whole world all better.
We'll take on the criticism, but we do wish you all would decide once and for all what you are criticizing. And by the way, don't even talk to me about intellectual tyranny. I am a conservative in secular academe. Enough said.
Todd S| 2.3.12 @ 4:25PM
Don't throw stones in a glass house Tony. Arguing that the Catholic Church was better than the barbarians and the Muslim hordes may be valid but is far from proving the Pope is God's true messenger. I will give them credit for preserving much of the Bible's writings to allow the King James version to be printed in due time, that is a real contribution. Of course it took a reformation and much bloodshed to allow that version of the Bible to get into the common mans hands. I don't have much of an issue with the Catholic Church today but to deny it has a dark past and many corrupt Pope's is to put your head in the sand.
Doctor Right| 2.3.12 @ 6:21PM
The Pope is NOT God's "true messenger."

RICHARD| 2.3.12 @ 12:04PM
Appleby, for Heaven's sake, you DON'T get to decide who is or who is not a Christian. Your religion, or any religion, has aspects that seem bizarre and ridiculous to others. "Baptizing" in the name of the"trinity". THAT sounds damn bizarre to many
Appleby| 2.3.12 @ 9:32PM
Baptism in the name of the Holy Trinity is the bedrock of Christianity. What's bizarre about that?
Todd S| 2.3.12 @ 10:05PM
Why misrepresent how Mormons are baptized? Is your point is because we don't believe the Nicene Creed version of the Trinity? Who was Jesus praying to? Why does he constantly refer to his Father and that he is his Son? I have never heard an explanation about that from you Nicene Creed followers that makes any sense at all.
Kingsfold| 2.3.12 @ 1:08PM
"Having been commissioned of Jesus Christ, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." This is the Mormon baptismal prayer.
If your definition of Christians only includes those that believe in the Nicene or Athanasian Creeds, which established the doctrine of the Trinity; then under this definition, not even Christ and His Apostles would be considered Christians.
Christ Himself established who his followers are in John 13:35, when he said, "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye shall have love one to another." Further, in Luke 9:49, Christ rebuked his apostles for trying to prevent some not of his flock from doing good works, saying, "Forbid him not, for he that is not against us is for us." FURTHER, Matthew 7:20-23 (again, Christ's words...) should clarify all confusion regarding the principle that it was more important to Christ what we DO than what we SAY.
You can say that Mormons aren't Christians... "according to Creedal Christianity," and I won't argue with you (although I think it's disingenuous to define Christianity so narrowly). My only request is for you to take Christ at his word in the Bible that you believe in.
markenoff| 2.3.12 @ 4:45PM
With 30,000 different churches all calling themselves Christian we can spend the next millenium trying to sort them out.
Todd S| 2.3.12 @ 2:21PM
Thought better of you than this Appleby. I do not know what you are talking about not baptizing in the name of the Trinity, completely untrue. Says right in the prayer in the name of the Father, of the Son and the Holy Ghost. If you want to believe the Trinity as defined by the corrupt Nicene Creed is some kind of indivisible mass, go right on ahead but no need to spread lies.
So he made some money, so damn what? He didn't do anything dishonest to make it and always lead an exemplary family life. Fine if you want to bring up his flawed political record but this is all about your personal prejudices. Perhaps you prefer a "Christian" like Newt?

Where are the Golden Plates?
Who were the Lamanites? Where did they come from?
How come only white people could become Mormons until...1973?!?!
Why does the D&C have so many "upgraded" versions? And why aren't the out-dated ones available to the public?
Mormons - nice people.
But to claim that Mormonism is just another Christian denomination is untrue. Mormonism contains key points of doctrine that are in direct contradiction to the Bible, and not on minor points, either.
PCP Smoker| 2.3.12 @ 8:27PM
You just hit a home run. One correction, on the outside, "mormons are nice people."
Todd S| 2.3.12 @ 9:30PM
Name me those key points of doctrine Doctor Right? Romans 8:17 - And if children, then heirs: heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be glorified together.
This scripture makes it apparent that God and Christ are separate and that Christ is literally the Son of God and that we can become joint-heirs with Christ. We don't become God but we can achieve the same exaltation through his
atonement. Or is Paul just talking nonsense and you rather believe the Nicene creed of the 4th century?
About only white people only be allowed to become Mormon until 1973, that is untrue. It is true that blacks were not allowed to hold the Preisthood until 1973 but they could be baptized and attend Church. You might consider God has had restrictions on who can hold the Priesthood throughout history, see Moses. If you want to call us racist because of it, go ahead but it has nothing to do with it. I won't bother with the other questions because I know it would be a waste of time with you, you got your anti-Mormon talking points and you are sticking with it. PCP smoker is with you though.

The liberal drones epitomized by the OWS movement have made a horrible miscalculation. Their greed and ignorance has led them to embrace the likes of Obama, Pelosi and Reid that were only out for themselves. Mochelle is buying $600 girdles and flying off to Spain and Martha's Vineyard in several thousand dollar dresses and $500 sneakers. Pelosi has, I think, doubled her already enormous wealth while in congress. Reid sounds like a wimp, but he is very aggressive in making land deals in Nevada that have made him a very wealthy man.
When I was a child, the Newark riots burned down entire neighborhoods. Last time I was in that area (by neccessity with my car doors locked) several years ago, the buildings were still boarded up and stores had not returned. The lefties such as the infamous three mentioned could give a flying hoot about those people. They live in mansions.
When there is a financial collapse, the middle classs will lose some more of their wealth. But it will reset and their belongings will leave them in a reasonable financial position. They also made the money once, and their familes can do it again. But when the wealfare state collapses, the entitlement society is SOL!!!
But Obama, Pelosi and Reid could care less. They have enough stolen wealth to hire small armies to guard their mansions. They won't be visiting Newark or Detroit!

Finally, too much of the media is nothing but 24 / 7 coverage of the GOP primary, what are we missing? We must watch the other hand. There are more regulations and Executive Orders to come. Oil prices will shoot up much higher and not just because of instability in the Middle East.
The OWS crowd is stating publically, they will escalate their efforts, calling for 1968 style activism in Chicago at the G8, the media fails to report this, why?
The media continues to provide air cover for this Administration, why else is Holder still in Office? same with Secretary Chu...

If you still want to hang on your principles, be prepared to eat them, because that is all you will have left.
CrackerHound| 2.3.12 @ 2:00PM
Anthony, I agree with you, especially concerning the destruction that will come. In fact I personally believe it is too late considering what the opposition to Obama has become...there is none basically. Come on, one of our major players is Trump. Need I say more? To people like Trump and Palin, this is all their own personal little game where they get to sell books, TV shows and documentaries while pretending like they care. We are surrounded by self serving narcissists in all corners while the people who could have really made difference are sitting on the sidelines.
But what really shocks me is how the majority of Americans do not see the trouble we are in. How we are quickly losing the liberty guaranteed in the Constitution. No one seems to believe that we are headed for a Soviet style collapse but the odds are it won't be non-violent. Our economy is not in "decline", it has been destroyed and is being perilously propped up for appearances sake. We are one event away from it becoming obvious to everyone. The facade is weak and all will be revealed soon. The divide we have in this nation will serve to pit American against American when chaos reigns. When our currency becomes worthless and the majority have nothing left to lose...that's when the real trouble begins. It has happened before and it can happen here.
Sorry for the rant and NO I don't stand on the corner with a "the end is near" sandwich board.

Sadly, I think Obama might win. Not because he's done a good job (he hasn't), not because he has a good plan (he doesn't). It's because the vast majority of voters are clueless (which is why he got elected in the first place). Ask an Obama supporter why, specifically, they support him and you'll get an incoherent answer. Some do support his "take from those who earn and give to those who don't" policies, but these are those who are on the receiving end (the 50% who don't pay taxes will vote for Obama). Blacks will support him because he's a Democrat and most blacks don't realize the Democratic party supported slavery, the KKK, and still supports the killing of unborn black babies (Obama even supports the horrific practice of partial-birth abortion). Obama is spending our children and grandchildren into oblivion (check what's happening today in Greece for a preview), and voters will still support him because they are clueless.

Or history like the Democratic party filibustering civil rights legislation? Like Democratic Senator Byrd being a grand wizard? Like Democratic policies contained in the "great society" have destroyed the black family (illegitimacy went from 10% to 70%, crime and murder rates increased likewise)?
That kind of history?
It is not President Obama to me because he is not a legitimate president as defined in the Constitution of the United States. His father was a British national, and thus Obama is not a natural born citizen of the United States.
Clint| 2.3.12 @ 1:02PM
This sort of demonstration of ignorance makes me laugh. Folks born on American soil are natural born citizens, despite where their parents are from and whether or not they are citizens.
Let me but this in Tea Party terms for you:
You know those gosh darn anchor babies? The reason it works is because Mexican citizens (see: foreign nationals) come here and have a baby which is then deemed a natural born citizen.
PLEASE EDUCATE YOURSELF PRIOR TO SPEAKING.
Teaghan| 2.3.12 @ 1:56PM
Was he born on American soil Clint?
Clint| 2.3.12 @ 2:56PM
Ah, thanks for revealing yourself as a birther. Yes, he was born in American soil. He has all the same documentation as I do. Or...oh no! Maybe I am not a citizen either! Maybe you aren't! Maybe none of us are!
Cpl. Punishment| 2.3.12 @ 4:36PM
There is way more to it than that. You must also not be sovereign to any other nation. A Diplomat who has a child born here does not have a US citizen in his family. The Anchor Baby thing is a prime example. Under the precedent in play in Georgia None of the "anchor babies" are legitimate US citizens and neither is Obama. That is why the judge did not dismiss this.
Hopefully the GA AG will refuse to but Obama's name on the ballot and issue a capius warrant.
A.H.| 2.3.12 @ 1:10PM
Well done, Darin...I said from the moment Obama (not President) stepped onto the scene, he is the antichrist....if he is reelected you can assure this will be fact..He is not a natural born citizen of the U.S. How many people did be blindfold and or payoff for this to be slipped under the carpet..If anyone thinks Obama is a good president, deserves what will happen if he is reelected...He will bring down the most powerful nation in the world....and we will have to sit back and watch...he has too many puppets for anyone to get near him..He is like a 5 yr. old, taking what he wants without thinking of the other persons thoughts or feelings...If he is re-elected (God forbid or possibly God foretold) Someone will attempt to take him out...This will be the sign...God have mercy on all of us....God Bless America!!!!
A.H.| 2.3.12 @ 1:54PM
Blacks will support him because he is black..They are clueless about everything else. (here I mean the ones mentioned above, those who are standing there with their hands out, and not paying taxes) and I don't mean just blacks..

Quinn, this list of supposed infractions by Obama is impressive but largely false.
-he saved the auto industry thru his efforts
-he has made progress on reviving the housing sector
-his recess appts were necessary and constitutional, as the Senate was in recess according to their own session records
-health care reform was desperately needed and he got it done
-stocks are up and unemployment is steadily dropping-now the lowest in 3 years according to MSNBC and CNN-my own Roth ROI for just the last 3 years is close to 40%
If these are "abominations" in your eyes, then I want to experience all of them that I can and more.

-Progress on housing? It's getting worse: http://www.standardandpoors.co.....013118.pdf
-Health care reform? Nothing was "reformed" competition (the only thing that pushes prices down) took a backseat to expensive mandates
-Stocks up? Sure, from the lows, but flat from 3 1/2 years ago
-Unemployment down? Sure, with workforce participation rates the lowest they've been in 30 years--but still not down to the 8% that 2009's ARRA was supposed to ever keep from happening.
Get informed, tool.

Dagny Taggert| 2.3.12 @ 11:56AM
Phil, you're obviously out of your league here. The labor force participation dropped by 1.2mm jobs in one month last month--an unheard of number in one month. So,basic math here, as the numerator gets smaller the employment % goes up. Maybe if we shrink the labor force another 1.2mm this month the employment rate goes up even farther! That's the ticket--keep shrinking the number of people considered in the labor pool (retirement, stopped looking for work) as a way to shore up the economy.
Teaghan| 2.3.12 @ 1:58PM
And you believe these numbers? Really?
Ned| 2.3.12 @ 12:55PM
your Roth is up because stock values reflect the intentional destruction of the value of the dollar, and the so-far hidden 9% annual inflation rate by adjusting upward... your account may now be worth $1000 more than it was six months ago, but if your money will now only buy 80% of what it did in 2008, are you actually doing better?

Excellent column! If Obama "must be stopped" "by every legal means possible," then why not support efforts like those of a recent hearing in GA to require Obama as a presidential candidate to demonstrate his eligibility to be on the ballot? The burden of proof should be on any candidate to demonstrate his eligibility for public office, and Obama refused to respond to subpoenas of a court in GA for both his own testimony and various documents relating to whether or not he may be constitutionally eligible to be on the ballot. In Illinois, Obama successfully challenged other candidates for state senate, and now his own right to be on state ballots is being challenged. This effort seems to be overlooked in the conservative media, but within days a default judgment against Obama is expected in GA, an outcome greatly to be desired.

The only thing you apparently missed was the consistent effort by people like Harry ("the war is lost") Reid and other Dems to undermine the war effort in Iraq and in the process throw their own country under the bus.
It's still going on today with what many believe is a premature U.S. withdrawl.
JmsA| 2.4.12 @ 7:46PM

JacintoKid| 2.3.12 @ 11:24AM
Hmm...I bet you miss lots of somethings. The baathist regime in Iraq was militarily defeated in 3 weeks. The decision was then made to try to civilize a bunch of savages. That was a tragic mistake but, the surge (which your hero Obama was against) brought stability to Iraq until Obama's election prospects got in the way.
Martijn| 2.3.12 @ 11:53AM
Stability? I worked in Iraq in 2009, and then, as it was now, is hell on earth. I'll leave it at that because clearly you have nothing to contribute but rants.

JmsA| 2.4.12 @ 8:11PM
I think I know what's going here. Once upon a time, not too long ago, the New York Times ran and buried the following byline: 'Al-Qaeda's back broken in Mesopotamia.' I also remember the One was then a senator from Illinois, who vehemently, if not histrionically opposed any and all efforts by Bush in Iraq, including the surge, which ultimately made victory possible. So, you either didn't get the news or you don't know where Mesopotamia is, Martinj. By the way, in case you haven't figured it out, either, Bush was the one that ordered the surge, and took Saddam out, thanks to the great efforts and sacrifices by our selfless and valiant armed forces, etc. Your idol, the One, is just taking credit for someone else's work. That's all.

Mullah Obama, or as I prefer to call that marxist Muslim from Kenya Abu Hussein al-Mombassa, will finish communizing America in his second term, after beating another RINO Romney to a bloody pulp. In this endeavor he will be assisted 1) by his Agit-Prop Office consisting of ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, NY Times, Wash. Post, LA Times, NPR, PBS, ...and
2) by his system of local soviets (that's community organizations in Russian) - ACORN, SEIU, AFL-CIO, AFSCME, NEA, AFT, Steel and Auto workers, Teamsters thugs...
3) by a massive vote fraude supervised by his commie-racist AG Holder.
Nationalizations started in his first term - automobile companies, banks, mortgage companies, insurance companies, hospitals, doctors offices, etc. will continue by nationalizing oil & gas companies, coal mines, electricity companies, big banks,...
Forget USA - we will become the United Soviet Socialist States of America; the huge depression will give our Mullah Obama the pretext for declaring himself a dictator for life - just like Kim of N Korea, Chavez of Venezuela, Castro of Cuba...

As in Geo. W. Obama came from somewhere and he had his predecessors. Hmmm. Wonder who that could have been?
Besides the obvious, Holder is an incompetent racist, but maybe, just maybe Ashcroft was a sincere incompetent.
And over at Natl. Review, Mr. Torture, John Yoo is advertised on the same page as VD Hanson's fine article on GWObama's racial politics.
IOW Obie preaches a particularly obnoxious racist version of big govt. but so what? That again, is the distraction for the left and the right. After all our good friend Herr Obama signed the NDAA on New Years Eve generally unopposed by the Repuglicans.

Santorum will provide the greatest contrast with Bam Bam.
Remember, Newt, Mitt, and Barack all hold the following positions.
They believe in man-caused global warming baloney, and the regulations and restrictions that have resulted from such thinking. Santorum does not.
They supported the Wall Street bailouts. Santorum did not.
They support and/or supported individual mandates for health insurance. Santorum never has.
They all criticized Paul Ryan's plan to get our fiscal house in order. Santorum embraced it.
Santorum is of the opinion that ILLEGAL immigrants have not broken ONE law (by crossing the border) as many claim, but that they have continually been breaking America's laws by working here, driving here, etc.
Santorum cannot be accused of being a flip-flopper.
Santorum cannot be accused of telling people what they want to hear.
Santorum cannot be accused of stating his positions based on the particular audience in front of him at the time.
It is clear that Santorum has been the adult in this race. His criticisms have been on the other candidates' records and he does not distort or misrepresent their records as they do to one another.
It is also clear that he has been the true, principled, consistent conservative his entire politcal career.
Clint| 2.3.12 @ 1:13PM
I respect Santorum and Paul as being consistent on the issues, but that doesn't make their positions reasonable. Santorum wants to ban birth control. No thanks. While espousing christian values he tells a young kid asking him for help to pay for his medicine that the markets will take care of it and he should just suck it up and pay because otherwise the gracious drug companies wouldn't create the medicine for him. And besides, he said, why do people complain about the high cost of drugs when a ipad costs $900? Basically to sum up what I'm saying is yes, Santorum is consistent. he is consistently idiotic.

Hillyer writes:
"Four more years of this guy in power, and we are doomed. He is a menace, and, by every legal means possible, he must be stopped..."
The second sentence does not logically follow the first. If we are indeed "doomed," and everything that Obama does is illegal -- as Hillyer says in his enumeration of grievances -- then why must only "legal means" be employed? The logical corollary is that if "legal means" fail, we must accept our "doom" at the hands of the "menace."
Words have -- or should have -- meanings. It's easy to blog away about our impending "doom" without thinking about the logical repercussions of the statement.
I'm not saying that Hillyer isn't correct... I AM saying that Jefferson, Washington and Hamilton performed illegal acts, and were considered traitors and criminals...

There are many other illegal means -- riots, strikes, bombings, etc. And I'm not necessarily recommending those, either. (I'm not so stupid to think that the government won't be reading this.)
What I AM saying is that government itself is violence. Government controls violence. And government decides which violence it will deem acceptable, and which is unacceptable. Conservatives consistently and stupidly fail to realize this. Let's take an example:
Suppose that someone believed that Roe v. Wade was an unconstitutional usurpation, and he bombed an abortion clinic. First of all, he would be denounced by conservatives as a nut. Second, he would be thrown in prison for forty years by the Federal government.
Now suppose that someone believed that the military was evil, and the "pigs" were capitalist and racist, so he joined the Weather Underground and bombed NYPD and the Pentagon. Forty years later he wouldn't be in prison, he would be a tenured professor named Bill Ayers, and a personal friend of the President. His wife Bernadine Dohrn would be a co-worker of the president and the First Lady. His fellow radicals would have been be pardoned by Clinton.
You see? The Left is in the position of power that it currently enjoys because it used violence and illegal means. How many times did blacks riot? How many crimes did the Black Panthers commit? Now blacks get (unconstitutional) preferential treatment over whites. How many Mexicans are here illegally? Obama won't deport them or even allow Arizona to ask them for ID. (In fact, Obama himself has two relatives who are illegals, doesn't he?) How many student sit-ins, riots, and "Occupy" protests have been treated with kid gloves, despite being illegal? Now we have government subsidies of students. How many riots and marches have the gays had? Now they're married, and in the Marine Corps. For how long has the Left (including the President) used illegal drugs as a kind of secular holy communion? Now we have legalized pot under the sham of "medical marijuana." How many illegal acts of union violence and intimidation have there been? Now unions are given a favorable seat at the table and get Federal laws written in their favor.
Don't kid yourselves, conservatives. The Left didn't get to where it is today by using "legal means."

Answer: no, but I sure am.
Ben| 2.3.12 @ 2:14PM
Really? Relax. What you consider a war on Christianity, is just a war on secularism. Why should a college athlete at Notre Dame be denied proper medical treatment because of someone else's belief system. What you want is to deny freedom to individuals while empowering restrictive, ambiguous and outdated religious doctrine. Obama is not a pastor. He is in charge of a government that is not supposed to govern based on religion. Not everyone believes what you do. Hence Obama's decision provides more freedom, not less. Your freedom is not more important than time.
Ben| 2.3.12 @ 3:02PM
Up is down, left is right, freedom is slavery, murder is choice, treason is loyalty, government is God, and the Kenyan usurper with the Connecticut Social Security number is the American President.
Ben| 2.3.12 @ 3:21PM
I'm relax. I consider a war on Christianity to be a very good thing. Why should anyone be denied the right to murder babies because of some silly outdated Hippocratic nonsense? What I want is to deny freedom to individuals while empowering restrictive, self-contradictory, and obsolete bureaucratic totalitarians to take control of every last aspect of our lives. Nerobama is my Messiah. He is in charge of a government that is supposed to govern based on fear and hatred of all things Christian and conservative. No one should even be allowed to consider believing what you do. Hence Nerobama is trying to kill freedom, not increase it. Your freedom of religion must be suppressed to promote the greater glory of the Moloch State.

Well said with the notable exception of your theory that ineptitude has anything to do with this administration's policies.
Everything has been done according to plan. Obama is not inept (albeit he is not all that bright); he & the people who put him into his current position of power are diabolical. It is absolutely stunning to see him get away with all these things. Adherence to principles of AA probably largely account for this.

Obama has many characteristics of a psychopath. The distinguishing signs of psychopaths is that they have no moral bearing and no regard for others. This may take the form of John Wayne Gacy or Ted Bundy, but psychologist are just beginning to realize that there are Corporate Psychopaths and Political Psychopaths, some of them being quite intelligent but whose only objectives are personal power and money. The well-being of the Republic and of the citizens is immaterial to them.

Yet we placed ourown citizens in concentration camps in World War II. Can't be or won't be done. Pat| 2.3.12 @ 3:52PM
Yeah, but didn’t Obama warn us about Red State voters being myopically wedded to their guns and bibles during his presidential campaign? Liberals in their East Coast gated communities got a good chuckle out of that pithy accusation – those red neck hillbillies were certainly put in their rightful place.
And, after his election, Obama put your money where his mouth is. Guns and bibles had to go, so first we sold firearms to Mexican drug dealers to prove a point and satisfy a campaign promise – killing innocent Mexicans and the odd American citizen or two with illegal firearms charged to Eric Holder’s Government MasterCard did eventually misfire however - but Obama voters understood he was only trying to prove a point; namely: Too many redneck hillbillies own guns.
Congress stumbled into this latest scandal but promptly took Holder’s official “not under oath” statement that even though us hillbillies and guns are a bad mixture, the DOJ’s Fast and Furious Gun Sale didn’t target anyone to be killed. As he explained to Congress, some unidentified local agents of the ATF or FBI or Border Patrol or possibly IRS auditors took it upon themselves to launch this stupid operation in the hopes our gun laws would be increased from 30,000 to 55,000 firearm regulations. And Holder and Obama want everyone to know they didn’t sanction this operation, or know anything about it and, even if they did know a teensy bit about it, they certainly didn’t encourage it. Congress took them at their word as was expected.
The next DOJ operation on the planning table is to go after unauthorized bibles – along with guns, too many of us hillbillies own bibles. Christians – prepare to turn your other cheek.

blah, blah, blah. This article is basically designed to enrange religious people against Obama with misinformation. The exemption for the religious portions of these organizations has NOT changed. The only thing he was doing was upholding previous law. If a religious based organization wants to run a hospital and accepts government funds they have to treat all the employees equally and with respect. They can't shove their narrow religious views down the throats of employees who are of different religious or even of the same religion of the organization. If they want to break the law and descriminate against their employees, then they can suffer the consequences.
My mother used to work for a Catholic Hospital and I can tell you that the majority of the doctors, nurses, and support staff were NOT Catholic. If they think they can get by with hiring AND accepting patients who are Catholic AND who agree wth their anti-contraception beliefs, good luck.

Obama who?
We still do not know who this man is, and how evil I believe he truly is.
When I think of Obama, the title president does not come to mind.
He is on his way to completing his plans to set up his dictatorship.
Should he secure a second term--it will be a disaster for America.
Americans are tired of him. We are tired of his arrogance, we are tired of his lies.We are tired of his spending, we are tired of his Alinsky radical rules, his manipulations, and his allegiance to evil.
We cannot allow him to be elected for another term.
Anyone who thinks this article is not a feasible description of this man and what he is doing...is either in denial, unable to grasp how bad it is, or has not been watching or listening.

Fiscal| 2.4.12 @ 11:50AM
The problem with Quin's column and most of your remarks is that they lack a factual basis. Without going into a lot of detail, there have been several recent analyses of the current deficit/debt issue that has show that the great bulk of it was the result of W's tax cuts that didn't work and his Medicare drug plan. Economies go through cycles and those people who really don't understand economics think that governments have more power than they do. Economics, is the most part, the purview of private enterprise. The political parties are more alike than different. Blaming Obama, or Bush for that matter, for having the level of supreme control that Quin believes, is pure junk analysis.
We also live in a country that is truly not for religious freedom. Those of you here on the extreme right want your Christian beliefs codified in the law, and those on the extreme left want you to believe their humanist point of view. Personally, I'd like a country where all of you left religious bigotry out of the public square. It not only creates animosity, but takes away our personal liberties and makes government larger, not smaller.
Let's face it, Obama is a lousy President -- not for the reasons Quin states, but because he is a grossly ineffective executive. The same is true of Bush, of course. It's not a function of their beliefs, it is a function of their incompetence.
We need to live in a country where we don't get our (lack of ) information from Fox News and MSNBC -- or Rush Limbaugh who has a very limited understanding of analysis and economics. Anyone who believes that the undeclared wars in Afghanistan and Iraq will change anything has never fought in those types of conflicts. You can't change the hearts, minds, or educational levels of a people through military endeavors. If we've learned anything over time, it is that the presence of our military just creates more animosity towards the U.S.
Rather than rhetoric, we need to pay attention to the detail in the numbers. The more we ask government to regulate, whether it is on the left with the overregulation of business or on the right with wanting to govern our personal lives, the more we ask government to spend and grow for enforcement and staffs. When we try to outlaw something like abortion, we then must have enforcement mechanisms and court cases to enable those laws to be effective -- a perfect case for unnecessary federal growth.
While Romney is far from perfect, he does have the executive competence that Obama lacks. My big fear is that Romney doesn't have a strong core and is like Obama in that he will do anything to make something work.
David| 2.4.12 @ 12:29PM

This isn't freedom of conscience; this is about women receiving parity with men. Men are not forbidden anything much in terms of medical care or insurance. Women and their needs have been subject to the war mongering of the right for the last three years.
To grant religious exemption, other than the narrowly defined exemption, is to legitimize the church's discrimination against women and their healthcare needs. The religious entities have centuries old histories of murder, rape, torture, theft, mistreatment, etc against women. Now that women can fight back, the church insist on its "right" to discriminate in the workplace with regard to benefits.
The government is responsible to its citizens; women are citizens. The "church" is not a citizen. To grant such a broad exemption to the church would violate the legal, constitutional rights of women and a notion of fairness. As a taxpayer, I strongly object to being asked to pay for this type of discrimination.
The church can do want it want; but not with government money [secular money]; everyone knows that accepting government resources comes with strings that demand the recipient abide by the laws of the land. So if the church wants to continue to discriminate against women, then they will have to do this discrimination with PRIVATE money.

"Well SAID, RockerB. Unfortunately, a knee-jerk sexism is writ into the DNA of conservative types - its so inveterate a trait that most of them don't even realize it."
-The issue of the catholic church's objections have nothing to do with sexism but rather the forced mandate on INDIVIDUAL CATHOLICS running hospitals and such to be forced to act in discordance with their religious beliefs that are protected by the first ammendment. The church is not demanding that contraceptions be made illegal or be not available to other citizens.
This article is just laughably pathetic. THIS is the best you can do, to dredge up a list of "Obamaminations"? Complaining about rescuing GM? Defending a Citizens United court decision which is turning the United States from an informal to a formal oligarchy? Banging on about this Justice Department (led by a black man, of course) - when you did not make a WHISPER of protest when the PREVIOUS Justice Dept. justified torture!??
-Obama has kept the exact policys of Bush and has changed nothing including the Guatanamo base. Your messiah wants to reserve the same authority and powers that Bush exercised. Hypocrits, you wrote the book on it.
"The fact is, this administration has done its best to mop up the foreign policy MESS which YOU are complicit in creating! Oh, wait, I forgot - he saw into Putin's "soul." I guess being in league with a leader the likes of Putin is good foreign policy for you Cons - who are all authoritarians at heart."
-Ah, yes, another false premise and historical revisionism. Bush did not give the international community the finger but rather worked with dozens of intelligence agencies, built a coalition of dozens of nations, and waited nearly a year before acting so as to gather both democratic and republican support. Clinton was in favor of an Iraq invasion and overthrow of Sadaam. Oh, yes, cleaning up the mess by starting two more wars that have led to the formation of a caliphate and radical Islamist taking over all of the middleast. Good job. Failing to negotiate a withdrwal from Iraq that even upset democrats as well as republicans. Bowing to foreign leaders? China thinks he is a lightwieght and an idiot. Do have I have to keep going?
"Never mind that Obama helped take out bin Laden and Khaddafi (or wait, are you guys defending the dictator, now? "
-The navy seals and the military with Bush policy took out bin laden. Kadafi was overthrown by his own people. The whole affair was mishandled and policy positions changed every week where by even the press did not know how to cover for your idiot.
"I can't keep up with your hypocrisy) in the same year. What you are also blind to, is that the Arab Spring is not being stamped with anti-Americanism (which is a serious risk considering all our meddling in the region and support of local autocrats). Obama is extricating us, intelligently and carefully, from our the military quagmires which YOU brought on us."
- That is such poppycock, I do not know where to start. What scares me the most is you actually believe that bullshit. The withdrawal and surge success was planned well before Obama showed up. You and your ilk did everything you could to stifle success for 8 years via declaring failure, stopping funding, abetting the enemy, and undermining the military. Forget that?

Timothy L. Pennell has nothing to apologize for or explain.

What did you expect Mullah Obama to do? Or - as I prefer to call that marxist Muslim from Kenya - Abu Hussein al-Mombassa.

Obama is a puppet. People give this pc of shit more credit than he deserves. Yes, he believes in all of it, but face it, the guy is over his head. He's never run a lemonade stand. The Soros' and union thugs are pulling his strings. No doubt he needs to be defeated, but Mitt Romney? Please! It's John McCain in sheep's clothing.
