Campaign Crawlers

Weird Week in the Hawkeye State

Bizarre developments in the Iowa caucus campaign.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Strange things keep happening in the final days leading up to the Jan. 3 Iowa precinct caucuses. Protesters from the Occupy Wall Street movement are being arrested at the offices of Republican presidential candidates. Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann says her former campaign manager was bribed to endorse Texas Rep. Ron Paul. And, perhaps strangest of all, Texas Gov. Rick Perry just released an ad attacking former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum.

The ad slamming Santorum for using so-called “earmarks” for spending projects during his tenure in Congress is, in some sense, par for the course. Attack ads have flooded the TV and radio airwaves here in the Hawkeye State in the past month, and no GOP candidate has spent more on advertising in Iowa than Perry. What was strange and ironic about this latest ad is that, until this week, none of Santorum’s Republican rivals had thought his campaign important enough to bother attacking. Less than three months ago, Perry was leading the Real Clear Politics average of Iowa polls with 24.7 percent, whereas Santorum was sixth with 4.3 percent. Now, Perry has slipped to fifth place in the RCP Iowa average, behind Santorum, whom two recent polls now show in third place. And so Perry’s campaign is spending money to target a candidate once dismissed as irrelevant.

“Rick Santorum voted for the Bridge to Nowhere and a highway bill full of pork,” says the Perry radio ad, which also says that Santorum “personally demanded more than one billion dollars of earmarks in his 16 years in Congress.”

The target of that ad smiled when asked about it after an event at a senior citizens center here Thursday night. “It’s been sort of difficult to go through this race and not get punched,” Santorum told reporters. “Every race I’ve ever run, I’ve been beaten, bloodied, bruised. So I’ve been waiting.… I’ve said the whole time, I don’t have a perfect record, but I’ve got a pretty darned good one.” And then he counter-punched, saying that “Rick Perry hired people to earmark funds for Texas.”

That was apparently a reference to a report by Jason Embry of the Austin Statesman-American Thursday: “In a July 2006 strategic plan, the Texas Office of State-Federal Relations bragged that it and the Texas Department of Transportation ‘worked closely together to secure over $669 million in highway earmarks for the state, $78 million in bus and bus facility earmarks, and $505 million in New Starts transit earmarks in the five-year surface transportation bill.’”

A sudden verbal punching match between a former front-runner and a surging underdog was just one unexpected highlight of the final — and increasingly weird — week before next Tuesday’s vote. Activists with the left-wing “Occupy” movement held their own “People’s Caucus” Tuesday in Des Moines, and have since rolled out an annoying publicity-stunt parody of civil disobedience protests. Occupiers have gotten themselves arrested during demonstrations at the Iowa campaign headquarters of Mitt Romney and Ron Paul, as well as at the offices of the state Democratic Party. Liberals were amused so long as the protesters were targeting Republicans, but the tone changed when the Occupiers showed up and barricaded doors at Democratic Party HQ, where the state party’s executive director accused the demonstrators of “threatening behavior.”

Some Republicans have expressed concerned that the protesters may disrupt the caucuses next Tuesday, but it’s unlikely the Occupiers will have much impact on the process. There are nearly 800 precinct locations across Iowa, most of them in small towns or rural areas without any real left-wing activist constituency, and the core group of Occupiers in Des Moines appears to number barely more than 100. Furthermore, by announcing their intentions in advance, the Occupiers alerted Republicans to take measures to protect the caucus locations. “All of our sheriff’s departments and police departments are aware of our caucus sites, and we are prepared,” said Judy Davidson, chairwoman of the Scott County GOP.

Being prepared for trouble seems necessary in Iowa this week. Just ask Michele Bachmann, who saw her former campaign manager, state Sen. Kent Sorenson, defect to the Ron Paul camp Wednesday. That public betrayal came just hours after Sorenson had attended a Bachmann rally, and was followed immediately by a strange sequel: When Bachmann accused Sorenson of selling out — endorsing Paul in return for unspecified payments — the political director of Bachmann’s campaign publicly defended Sorenson and was immediately fired for doing so.

Even the weather has been strange in Iowa this week: The high temperature Thursday in Davenport was 56 degrees, although the forecast suggests the possibility of snow Friday night.

Sudden changes and unpredictable events have become so routine during this bizarre political season in the Hawkeye State that even expert analysts like Nate Silver of the New York Times are allowing vast leeway in their predictions. If Iowans experience plagues of locusts and rivers turned to blood between now and Tuesday, they’ll probably shrug it off as just another campaign publicity stunt.

The ultimate goal ought to be to dissolve the GOP altogether, not disrupt it.

Timothy L. Pennell| 12.30.11 @ 8:22AM

Yes, Alan. That's the goal. To dissolve the GOP, altogether. To Eliminate them. To Exterminate them.
Thank you, Alan. You may go back to your seat.

That was Alan Brooks. Alan is your Typical Effeminate Leftist/Liberal/Progressive/Socialist/Marxist/Communist/Maoist, confused about his Sexuality. (Really. Aren't they all?)

What does Alan have in Common with every Leftist Regime the world has ever known?
Give up?
He doesn't want Compromise, with those he disagrees with. He doesn't want to Work with those on the other side. No discussion.
He wants to BE RID OF THEM, forever.

Let's go down the Leftist Memory Lane, shall we?

Karl Marx had no problem, with the Elimination of 300 Million human beings. That was something he mused about. He thought that, if there were 300 Million less people, it would make implementing his Worker's Paradise, that much easier. He could do whatever he wanted to. (That's Alan's Goal)

The Irish Poet, and Huge Leftist - Robert Frost - wondered aloud about a Poisonous Gas, that could be used to dissolve a large portion of the Great Unwashed. Those not as Enlightened as He, and Alan.

Hitler did not want the JEWS, around. I mean, how do you cultivate a Master Race of Aryans, with a buncha Semitics running around? No. That would never do. They needed to be dissolved, altogether. Simple.

The Soviets dissolved Millions of trouble makers. Like North Korea, they liked to use Starvation, and Gulags, to make life easier in the Kremlin.

Mao dissolved Millions of Problematic People. People with divergent views. People who Thought differently than their Leftist Leader. He would put a Bullet in their heads, and then charge his Family for the price of the Bullet. So, he not only dissolved the problem. He was Stimulating the Economy.

Pol Pot had the same idea as Alan. Why waste all that time arguing with an opponent, when you can put a Bullet in his head, instead? Problem resolved. Or, should I say......Dissolved?

Castro dissolved all of his opposition. He either sent the Lefts' favorite T-Shirt (Che) to grab'em and Kill'em. Or he just had them rounded up, and thrown in his Gulags, where they dissolved slowly, in the dark.

And, now we have ALAN BROOKS, and his Final Solution. He says "Dissolve", when he really means Eliminate. But, then again, I'm sure that he says "Investments" instead of Taxes. Or "Skin Flute", instead of......(Ask DRed. He'll know) It's called New Speak, and the Left likes to combine it with The Big Lie, because they think we're so stupid. Isn't that right, Alan?

Alan is a Homosexual. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.) That's okay. You're a grown whatever, and you can make your own decisions. I only bring it up, because I wonder if you realize the Historic Relationship between the LEFT, and Boys like you?

The old saying goes: Be careful what you wish for. You just might get it.

I'm pretty sure that the guys that wear the shirts that Barney Frank wears, or participate in the never ending La Cage, that he runs out of his D.C. Apartment, have a habit of being dissolved, altogether, in the Lefts' perfect world.
Who can forget: "They came for the Homosexuals, and I did nothing."

I'm just saying.

chuck| 12.30.11 @ 8:35AM

Thanks for the reminder of what we are fighting against. History shows that those with a "vision of utopia" are the world's worst mass-murderers. Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, plus dozens of the lesser ones, Idi Amin, Mugabe, Castro, Bin Laden, Arafat, ......
That's why I always considered Hillary to be the dangerous Clinton. Turns out she would have been far less destructive than the current "occupier".

Occam's Tool| 12.30.11 @ 10:30AM

Partly cloudy, little chance of snow, 34 degrees on Tuesday. TLP, beautiful, as always. You just get better and better.

Alan Brooks| 12.30.11 @ 5:11PM

"There it goes, again."

Perhaps we could dissolve the Tea Party instead of the GOP, Tim? if you agree, you've got a deal.

benny havens| 1.1.12 @ 7:50AM

AB, give it up. You lost the debate.

Jack in Wi.| 12.30.11 @ 12:30PM

You forgot to add a few of the worst mass murderers. Trotsky, hero of the neocons, Kaganovich, Jagoda, Yezev, Sverdlov, Derzinski, Sharon, Shamir, Ben Gurion, Begin. Barack, and Netanyahu.

You might think that is a little strong when I include the Israeli's. But they have far more blood on their hands then people like Arafat, and Mugabe and they have a vision of utopia which does not include half the population of their own country.

We have someone like Occam here, who is always calling for nuclear genocide, actually trying to sound like he is against mass murder. Shame, Shame, Shame.

Timothy L. Pennell| 12.30.11 @ 12:44PM

It's not Genocide. It's Radiation treatment, for a CANCEROUS TUMOR. (Which is really, all these Murderous Scum are.)
Isn't that what we call people who put Liquid Explosives in to the Baby's Bottle, with the intention of boarding an airplane, and Blowing it up, and their baby, with it?

Isn't that what we call people who Strap Explosives to their kids?

Isn't that what we call people who put Kids in the Bomb Ladened Car, because they know that it's easier to get through the Checkpoint that way?

Isn't that what we call people who Murder their Children, in the name of Honour? Isn't that what we call a People who are responsible for every armed conflict in the world?

Nuke'em.
Nuke all of them.

Jack in Wi.| 12.30.11 @ 1:36PM

Pennell: Israel was founded by racists, . thieves, murderers, communists, and terrorists. It is still run by them. You now join Occam in calling for genocide and mass murder. Shame on you. You are no conservative. Israel is not worth one drop of American blood or one American dollar.

Adjoran| 12.30.11 @ 2:09PM

I just bet if you put your mind to it, you could come up with a final solution to that pesky Joo problem.

Go get your forehead tattooed, moron.

Jack in Wi.| 12.30.11 @ 4:42PM

I am against all genocide and hate. As you well know. Israel has a huge military and 300 to 600 atomic weapons. It is a run by racist gang who violate the rights of it's neighbors any time it wants.

God in The Book of Leviticus tells Jews to treat the aliens among you as you do yourselves. Further along in the Book it tells them to love your neighbor as yourselves. The Book of Exodus tells Jews to treat the aliens and strangers among you as you do yourselves. For you Zionists, isn't it time you followed God's Law, not the law of the Jungle. Shalom and Happy New Year

Nick| 12.30.11 @ 6:32PM

But, you are a disgusting Hitler apologist, Jack-boot.
And, therefore, make me, and many others, sick.

Jack in Wi.| 12.30.11 @ 7:49PM

Nick is a faux Catholic Hasbaret from Haifa, who does not know the Gospel of the Prince Of Peace Jesus Christ. Have a happy New Year anyhow Nicky and hve a peaceful sabbath at the synagogue. Return to the Torah and the Camandments. You Zionists seem to have forgotten a few of them.
Thou shalt not kill.
Thou shalt not steal.
Thou shalt not bear false witness.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors property.

Nick| 12.30.11 @ 8:20PM

Jesus Christ was a Jew, Jack-boot.

Which means that it would be okay with you if Hezzbollah sent rockets to Nazareth, if Christ were around today.

Today is the Solemnity of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. You would have no problem with some Arab terrorist walking into the manger with a bomb-vest and blowing the Holy Family to Kingdom Come.

You probably read passages of Mein Kampf on Christmas morning, didn't you Jack-boot?

Timothy L. Pennell| 12.31.11 @ 9:42AM

Now you've gone and done it. Jackass is a HUGE Christian, who is against all Hate, and all Genocide. "As you well know." And, you had to go and tell him that JESUS was a JEW, when everybody (voting for Ron Paul) knows that JESUS was a Christian, knows how to kill a Black Man, and dispose of the body, and knows how to hide their Militia from the Law.

JESUS went to the Jew Temple, and confronted all the Jew Fairies. I mean: Jew Fairysies. Jew Queers.

Maybe you should get someone else to start your car, in the morning, for the next coupla months?

Nick| 12.31.11 @ 12:04PM

Thanks for the warning, Mr. Pennell.

I'm not worried, though. Paul-bots are about as scary as Smurfs. They have no real power, just hot-air.

If Jack-boot knew anything about the Catholic Church, he would know about Her Jewish roots. He would know that the Hebrews are still God's Chosen People, and that the many covenants He made with them are still in force. God never goes back on His Word.

It's just easier for Jack-boot to believe in vast Jewish conspiracies to explain away all the evil in the world. The same way that a very small minority of non-Catholics try to scapegoat the Catholic Church for all the world's ills.

May you and your family have a very prosperous New Year, Mr. Pennell.

Timothy L. Pennell| 1.1.12 @ 10:35AM

Thanks, Buddy.

Happy New Year.

Jack in Wi.| 12.31.11 @ 11:11AM

Jesus the Jew said. "Love your neighbor as yourselves. Those who live by the sword will die by the sword. What you do to the least of my brothers you do unto me. If they hit you on your right cheek turn to the left cheek. "

Nicky you are no Catholic. We follow the Prince of Peace, not the gods of war. You prove you are a hasbaret by mouthing the statements that your fellows do on this site. Especially that Jesus was a Jew. He came as a Jew to save the whole world, including the Jews. He preached brotherhood and love. You and the other zionists on this site clamour for hate and murder.

The Palistinians and their ancestors have lived in the neighborhood for 5000 years. They almost all have some Jewish blood. They have every right to the land over a bunch of European terrorists, communists, socialists, and atheists who founded Israel. The Holyland belongs to the whole world, not just a few squabbling Jewish sects, of which, by far the biggest is the Atheists.

End the terrorism, end the hate, integrate the Israeli state. Equal rights for all in old Palistine Jew, Muslim, and Christian. Happy New Year and peace to all. Shalom to the Jews. Salem Alaykum to the Muslims. Peace.

Nick| 12.31.11 @ 12:13PM

Jack-boot in Wi.,

"Nicky you are no Catholic."
And, you are no pope.

"The Palistinians and their ancestors have lived in the neighborhood for 5000 years."

Ha-ha! What left-wing garbage!
The Arabs in Gaza and the West Bank are descended from the Moslem hoards that invaded the Holy Land in the 7th century, A.D., brainiac.

p.s. You forgot, "Happy kwanza," you commie pinko!

Jack in Wi.| 12.31.11 @ 5:10PM

Nicky: You again prove you are no Catholic but a hasbaret, mouthing lies from the Israeli ministry of propagada. Every Pope since Israel has been founded has called for the Paalistinians to be fairly treated. They have never agreed with the ethnic cleansing of Palistine by the Jewish settlers. The Palistinans have the longest claim to the land.
Peace, brotherhood, and love of neighbor is what Christianity is about. You boys love hate, murder, and theft. Shame , Shame, Shame,

Nick| 12.31.11 @ 5:38PM

Jack-boot in Wi.,

"Every Pope since Israel has been founded has called for the Paalistinians [sic] to be fairly treated."

This is why the Vatican has diplomatic relations with Israel, right brainiac? And, the only ethnic-cleansing going on in the Holy Land, is being committed by the Arab terrorists.

The Arabs have NO claim to the land. This is lefty, anti-Semitic propaganda.

What the heck is a hasbaret, anyway?
Is this nazi-speak for Jew-lover?

Margie| 12.30.11 @ 8:14PM

And Nick is a disgusting Inquisition apologist~ which is WORSE, for his Idolatrous Popes added to the myriad number of Christian AND Jewish Martyrs for six centuries.

Now watch, as he tries to deny it!

And.. it makes GOD sick.

Nick| 12.30.11 @ 8:25PM

I do not defend the abuses of the Inquisition, Margie. And you know this. Be more accurate, next time, okay?

Where's those answers to my three simple questions, by the way?
God Bless!

Margie| 12.31.11 @ 2:53PM

You CERTAINLY DO DEFEND THEM, kiddo.

Anyone can do a search, liar.

You have denied the Murderous reign of the Popes that you have learned from, and along with them have stated that the Christians that they murdered were heretics.

This explains your treatment of me, and any and ALL Bible believing Christians that EVER attempt to engage you in conversation defending
the Scriptures as they are written, and not as your cult teaches. for I believe as they did, and REJECT the false and unbiblical teachings of the Vatican.

NOW: Anyone can do a search and read your own words concerning what I say~ and you are a liar.

Nick| 12.31.11 @ 4:31PM

Margie,

"For this very reason make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these things are yours and abound, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ." - 2 Peter 1:5-8

Now, do infants sin, or not? This is a simple yes or no question.
God Bless!

Margie| 12.31.11 @ 5:45PM

1. You are no brother, but a liar and a preacher of a different gospel.

2. You, like the thousands of Papists before you who did so, deflect from yourself and onto me, seek to lie and present all manner of falsehood to me, and never face the truth of the lies you present against the Holy Scriptures and against them that believe in them.

3. Answered ad infinitum, punk.

Nick| 12.31.11 @ 6:27PM

"Always be prepared to make a defense to any one who calls you to account for the hope that is in you, yet do it with gentleness and reverence; and keep your conscience clear, so that, when you are abused, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame." - 1 Peter 3:15-16

I pray that you heed the words of Saint Peter, Margie.

Here is proof that the first Pope taught Apostolic Succession, in the Sacred Scriptures:

"I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to arouse you by way of reminder, since I know that the putting off of my body will be soon, as our Lord Jesus Christ showed me. And I will see to it that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things." - 2 Peter 1:13-15

Margie| 12.31.11 @ 5:46PM

AND: As I said, above: anyone can do a search to see what Nick, the lying Papist has said concerning the Christian Martyrs who were tortured and killed by his Popes.

The man is a blatant liar.

Margie| 12.31.11 @ 6:01PM

OF THE UNGODLY AND FALSE CHURCH, WHICH IS THE OPPOSITE OF THE CHURCH OF GOD, AND THE ORIGIN, PROGRESS AND SUCCESSION OF THE SAME THROUGH ALL TIMES

Where God builds a temple, says the old proverb, there the devil builds another in opposition. This has been apparent ever since the beginning of the world. For at the same time that Abel became a martyr of God, and, therefore, a good leader of the children of God, Cain made himself a murderer, and became a leader of the children of Satan, who belong to the ungodly and false church, as members of one body. Gen. 4:8.
He was followed by Lamech, one of Cain's descendants, who slew a young man, and afterwards spoke of it to his wives Addah and Zillah, in a boasting and presumptuous manner. Gen. 4:23.

Page 45
The people of the first world universally, with the exception of eight, followed in the footsteps of Lamech in wickedness; they exercised tyranny, violence, and oppression, and would not be governed by the Spirit of God. Gen. 6:3, 4.
The Sodomites followed in the same course, vexing with their unbecoming walk the righteous soul of Lot from day to day. Gen. 19; II Pet. 2:8.
These were succeeded by the Egyptians, who imposed grievous and insupportable burdens upon the people of God, and finally sought their lives, yea pursued them even into the sea. Compare Ex. 1:11 with Ex. 14:9,10, 23.
After these were the seven nations, or inhabitants, of the land of Palestine, who were greater and mightier than the children of Israel, but were banished by God on account of their wickedness; namely the Canaanites, Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, Jebusites, etc. Deut. 7:1, 2.
After these manifested themselves the Amorites, Moabites, Midianites, Philistines, and many others, who disturbed, oppressed, and harassed in manifold ways the people of God, which was dwelling in quiet. See throughout in the book of the judges, the books of Samuel, the Kings, and Chronicles.
The Chaldeans, Assyrians, and the inhabitants of the land of Babylon, followed those already mentioned; they carried the church of God away into foreign lands, burned the house of God, and laid waste the city of Jerusalem, which God had chosen above all cities of the whole earth. II Kings 1-17; Jer. 52:1-20; Lam. 1:1-5.
The mighty cities, Tyre and Sidon, in Phoenicia, and afterwards, Chorazin, Bethsaida, Capernaum, which defied the world itself with their greatness, and cast the threatenings of God to the wind, lifted up their heads after the last mentioned, but to their own destruction. Compare Isa. 23:4, 5; Ezek. 27 and 28 throughout, with Matt. 11:20-23.
All these who have been mentioned, from Cain on, succeeded one another in regular order, and may be considered as members of the church of Satan; since they have neither in generation, nor in faith, nor in worship, nor in manner of life, agreed with the church of God, but opposed it in every respect.
After the coming of Christ, many who had adopted the Christian religion and worship, apostatized, denying the-faith, and thus becoming fellow members in the last mentioned, ungodly, and wicked congregation; as, for instance: Simon Magus, who by confession of faith, and baptism had joined himself to the visible church of God, but fell from it, desiring to purchase the gift of the Holy Ghost with money, which, according to the apostle Peter, tended to his destruction, although he afterwards, as it appears, was again converted. Acts 8:13, 18-22.
Hymenaeus and Alexander, who concerning faith made shipwreck, and were full of blasphemies, wherefore they were put away from the church by Paul, and delivered unto Satan. I Tim. 1:19, 20.
Phygellus and Hermogenes, who with the greater number of those in Asia, were turned away from Paul, and, consequently, also from the doctrine of the Gospel which they had received. II Tim. 1:15.'
Hymenaeus (the second) and Philetus, who, having erred concerning the truth, pretended that the resurrection of the dead was past already; whereby they overthrew the faith of some. II Tim. 2:17, 18.
Demas, who forsook Paul, having loved the world. II Tim. 4:10.
Alexander, the coppersmith, who did the apostle much evil, on account of which the church of Christ is admonished to beware of him. II Tim. 4:14,15.
Many others, who, though they bore the name of members of the Christian church, did not stand by but forsook the oft mentioned servant of God, when he was to answer before the Emperor Nero in regard to the Evangelical doctrine; for which reason their names did no longer belong among the pious. See last mentioned chapter verse 16.
After these followed many who in the days of John went out from the Church of Jesus Christ, and did the works of antichrist; wherefore they were called antichrists, being forerunners of the great antichrist who was to follow afterwards. See I John 2:18, 19. Besides these who arose already in the time of the apostles, and went out from the holy congregation of God, many others, who can not all be mentioned, followed in all ages and will follow to the last days.
Of this the apostles prophesied when their departure was near at hand, and warned the believers of their coming.
When Paul knew and was fully assured through the revelation of the Holy Ghost that all those among whom he had traveled preaching the Gospel would see his face no more, he thus addressed, on the island of Miletus, the elders of the church of Ephesus, who had come to him: I know, beloved brethren, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. Therefore watch, and remember that by the space
of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears. Acts 20:29-31.
Afterwards when he was in the city of Laodicea, in Phrygia Pacatiana, he wrote in a certain letter to his beloved friend Timothy, concerning the apostasy which should be through some in the latter times, thus, "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times, some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats." I Tim. 4:1-3.

Page 46
Who these apostates were that, in many instances, have forbidden marriage and meats it is unnecessary to point out, since the truth of the matter is clear and manifest to almost everyone.
But at the close of his life, when he was imprisoned at Rome the second time, and had already received his sentence of death, namely, to be executed with the sword, for the name of the Lord, he once more renewed the foregoing to his friend and spiritual son Timothy, in order that he might never forget it, but also put the church, where he was a teacher, in remembrance of it with these words, "This know also that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, . . . having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof." II Tim. 3:1-5.
Continually, he adds this declaration for further instruction, "The time will come when they" (namely, certain members of the Christian church)"will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables" (II Tim. 4:3, 4).
In like manner, Peter also, as his departure drew nigh, expressly prophesied to the chosen strangers scattered abroad: That, as there were, in times past, false prophets among the people (Israel), there should also be false teachers among (or out of) them, who should privily bring in pernicious heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them. II Pet. 2:1.
It would require too much time to recount what also John says on this subject, not only in his epistles, but especially in his revelation; since he gives a description of the condition of both the church of Christ and of antichrist, from his time to the end of the world.
OF THE EVIL SUCCESSION OF THE ROMAN CHURCH, CONSISTING ONLY IN THE SUCCESSION OF THE PERSONS, AND NOT OF THE DOCTRINE

Here is to be considered the great error of the Romanists, when they without regarding the true succession of the doctrine build on, and parade the succession of the persons, who either from the beginning of the world, or from the time of the apostles have existed throughout, as they pretend up to the present time; surely a very insignificant matter!*
For, if they reckon from the beginning of the world, we have shown, that Cain, who was a murderer, has had his successors as well as Abel, who was slain for the sake of his faith** and godliness.

*"Trust ye not in lying words," saith the Lord,"saying, The temple of the Lord, The temple of the Lord, The temple of the Lord, are these" (Jer. 7:4).
*"By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and he being dead yet speaketh" (Heb. 11:4). And also, if they reckon from the time of the apostles, we have demonstrated that at that time already there were many apostates, yea, adversaries of the Christian religion and the true worship of God; and that more have followed, according to the prophecies and predictions which the holy apostles uttered and left to posterity.
Hence it follows, that neither the antiquity, nor the long or great succession of persons, can assure the truth of any religion or church, since the evil is as ancient as the good, and the erring spirits and evildoers have had, and still have, as great a succession as the true believers and good; unless the antiquity, and the succession of persons be accompanied with the divine truth and piety possessed by the upright ancients in the beginning.
OBJECTION OF THE PAPISTS, BY MEANS OF THREE PASSAGES

But, in order to maintain the aforementioned succession, the Papists are accustomed to say, that they do not reckon the same from the antiquity of some erring spirits who were before, in, or after the time of the apostles; but from the church of Christ itself, and from Peter, whom they styled the prince of the apostles, upon whom Christ Himself, as they asserted, wished to build His church. Bell. lib. I. de pont Rom. cap. 10. Quansuy ex.
To this they add as a second argument, that to him and no other, were given, by Christ, the keys of heaven, to open or to close the same according to his pleasure.
And, thirdly, that the Lord thrice commanded him-more than the other apostles-to feed His flock, that is, His church.
Moreover, that he occupied the Roman throne, and that the popes succeeded him therein.
To prove this supremacy of Peter, and, consequently, the succession of the popes in his place, they have, for a long time already, misused three passages of holy Scripture, namely Matt. 16:18, 19; and John 21:15-17; to which we will reply in the following.
REPLY TO THE FIRST PASSAGE

Matt. 16:18, the Lord says, "Upon this rock I will build my church."
The error of the Romanists consists in this, that they misinterpret the word petra, as though thereby was meant the apostle Peter; but this is a great and palpable error. For the Lord there plainly distinguishes between the name Petros (Peter) and the word petra (rock); saying immediately before, "Thou art Peter," but afterwards, "and upon this rock;" upon which follows, "I will build my church;" so that the Lord does not promise there, to build His church upon Peter, but upon the rock; which he plainly mentions.
Now it will depend upon the true meaninb who and what is to be understood by this rock. Some maintain the first mentioned meaning, which

Page 47
we have refuted just now, namely, that Peter himself is meant thereby; for which purpose they misapply the passage John 1:42, where this apostle is called Cephas,* which, in their opinion, signifies a foundation stone; but this is also an error.
It is true that, according to the explanation of orientalists, those versed in oriental languages, by this word there is to be understood a stone; but what kind of a stone? Not a foundation stone, but a piece, corner, or chip of a stone, upon which no building could ever be founded. The word Cephas, they say, is derived from the Hebrew word Keph, which with them means a corner or edge of a stone; while, on the other hand, the rocks or foundation stones are designated by the.name Sela or Zur ** according to Deut. 32:13. Thus Peter is indeed called a stone in holy Scripture, yet not a foundation stone, but only such a one as is generally built upon a foundation. Christ is properly the foundation stone, as Peter himself declares, when he calls Christ the living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious (I Pet. 2:4); whereupon he adduces the words of the Prophet Isaiah saying, "Wherefore also it is contained in the Scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him" (that is built, upon him through faith)"shall not be confounded." I Pet. 2:6 from Isa. 28:16. Therefore he admonishes the believers, to build themselves, as living stones, to a spiritual house, upon the foundation which is laid-Christ. Verse 5.
Paul confirms this, when he says, "Other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ" (I Cor. 3:11). In another place he calls Him the foundation of the apostles and prophets, etc. (namely, upon whom the apostles and pr phets themselves were built up, and upon whom they, through their doctrine, built up others also.); for he adds, "In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto a holy temple in the Lord: in whom ye also are builded together for a habitation of God through the Spirit" (Eph. 2:20-22) .
It is not inconsistent with this, that the twelve apostles, of whom Peter was one, are called twelve foundation stones, *** upon which, as John says, the city of God, that descended from heaven, was built. Rev. 21:14. For, even if it were admitted that by

* And he (Andrew) brought him (Simon Peter) to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou stu be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone. John 1:42.
* He made him ride on the high places of the earth, that he might eat the increase of the fields: and he made him to suck honey out of the"Sela" rock, and oil out of the"Zur" flinty rock. Deut. 32:13.
** The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb" (Rev.21:14). In the first place it is questionable (even if it be admitted that by this description of the city of God we are to understand the church of God) whether thereby is meant the church of God as it is here on earth, or the glorified church of God, as it will be afterwards in heaven t for only the former, and not he latter, is to be considered here. In the second place, it is certain that the name"foundation stone" is ascribed here not to Peter alone, but to all the twelve apostles; hence he is here called a foundation not any more than any of the others. he words, city of God, in this place, there is to be understood the church of God here on earth, this would only prove, that Peter, as well as the other apostles, was one of the twelve foundation stones of the church of Christ; which by no means confirms the proposed objection, that Peter alone is the foundation stone, or foundaition, of the church.
Again, the word "foundation stones" here does not signify the foundation itself, since, properly speaking, in nature, the foundation, as the ground or bottom of a building, is something different from the stones built upon it, which are called foundation stones; for, upon the ground or bottom the foundation stones are laid, and upon the foundation stones the building; so that the ground of foundation must support both, the foundation stones and the building. Thus, Christ is the ground, bottom, or foundation of His church; the apostles, through their doctrine, are the foundation stones; and. the church is the building erected upon these foundation stones and the foundation. It stands fast, therefore, that they err, who make Peter the only foundation of the church of Christ, and that, consequently the building which they erect thereon, is erroneous and false *

Oy Tim, you left out Margaret Sanger and her solution for eliminating those dastardly inferior races of human beings with extra melanin in their hides that she despised. SCOTUS bought into it and Planned Parenthood carries on her legacy.

RCV| 12.30.11 @ 11:16AM

Margaret Sanger was a scoundrel, indeed, but she opposed abortion.

Dick Nome| 12.31.11 @ 5:05PM

Right, and Obama believes in tax cuts and spending reductions.

Do a little research, Dick. She promoted birth control precisely because of her opposition to abortion.

I have to agree with Alan on one thing. Running another Dole, Bush, McCain will be the final obitiuary for the party. Even if Romney or Gingrich would win it would be worse then another Obama win. Because then their would be no opposition to Obamacare, loss of civil liberties, more wars, and final bankruptcy. The Neocons and the Rockefeller Republicans have destroyed the party over the last 25 years.

It truely is Ron Paul or ruin. We are going to take the Republican Party back or we will replace it. the country can not continue with more of the same.

Alan Brooks| 12.30.11 @ 5:34PM

Ron Paul is the most forthright GOP would-be candidate; Gingrich is the opposite; Newt is too smart and educated not to know that his Flash Gordon ideology is bunk.

Gingrich might consider a new career, as an astronaut; Newt can blast off into outer space without a spacecraft. He may invent a new form of space travel: sending one's mind into outer space while leaving the body behind.

The only conservative running is Ron Paul. He has a record of almost 40 years of fighting big government. all the rest are owned by the Banks and world globalists. The troops want to come home and support Ron Paul in huge majorities with their campaign funds. The biggest contributors to Ron Paul's campaign are members of the active military and their families.

End the Fed. End the wars. America first and formost. For Sanity, Solvency, Peace, Prosperity, and Liberty, Vote Ron Paul.

You forgot to mention the write in appeal for Sarah Palin going on in Iowa. Was that an accident or did you forget on purpose? People of Iowa, if you want a true reformer, write in Palin.

Indy| 12.30.11 @ 9:55AM

You know, the only place I have seen that is on blog sites, I am not aware of any national news organization reporting that, but I'm not surprised. It will be interesting to see how many write her in as a protest vote...if it gets reported at all.

RCV| 12.31.11 @ 9:22PM

There is no such thing as a "write-in" in the Iowa caucuses, because there is no ballot. People gather in person in a hall, and gather into groups in support of a candidate. If the reach a certain number, they are eligible to choose a delegate, depending on the number of delegates allocated to that caucus.

Steve| 12.30.11 @ 7:00AM

That would be a start, Alan. If it was immediately followed up by the wholesale disenfranchisement of all registered democrats this country might yet survive.

Tina B| 12.30.11 @ 10:41AM

Good idea Steve, and then we can dismantle the entire American System of 'Education' which we have made compulsory for the benefit of the State, and which is really only 'schooling' our kids and not 'educating' them or teaching them to think for themselves. (Read John Taylor Gatto's books and essays online or find them and read them like I did. Thirty years in a Public School and I just had my eyes opened.)

Dissolving both political parties and forming new ones, a la the Tea Party, dismantling compulsory schools, giving all families the choice to homeschool or pick the best schools for their children to learn and in which to grow, giving all schools a good reason to compete for students.

The ideas that made this country great can do so once again. Santorum is definitely a horse of a different color, as is Palin. Iowa sounds like a wild card right now, and I find that fascinating. Go God! Go USA!

God and our own native individualism can save us yet. Otherwise, God come back for us soon!

There is much too much Iowa for such a small state. Lets bring Iowa down to size.

Alan Brooks wise ass comment is exactly the reason ( or one reason ) why I could never associate with a Socialist Party or for that matter--not directly related to Brooks an establishment Republican Party. But you know Alan be careful what you ask for because what you just might get is the exact opposite. You probably do not know this because your head is somewhere in outer space from my point of view but there are FAR more people who dislike Obama and the Socialists ( and folks like you at least on political basis than the other way around.
They dislike not only phonies and liars but they dislike being pushed around. At some point the OWS crowd may find itself facing an Occupy Washington DC crowd which will be a lot lot larger. And they will not be willing to take BS anymore. I hope you wake up some day and understand that will happen.

“Activists with the left-wing ‘Occupy’ movement held their own ‘People's Caucus’ Tuesday in Des Moines…”

I hate to start like Andy Rooney, but have you ever noticed that groups that label their movement with “People’s” and speak of their concern for the “Masses” do the most damage to both individuals and humanity?

bill| 12.30.11 @ 9:23AM

It's not a wired week in IA, it's a blessings for IA. Because Rick Perry will stun America and win the IA Caucus. Michelle Bachmann will be in the second place.
The Obama regime will be "in a life support."

A. C. Santore| 12.30.11 @ 10:02AM

I certainly agree with this: "There is much too much Iowa for such a small state. Lets bring Iowa down to size."

When in the name of all that's holy will we finally admit that the Iowa caucuses are the political joke of them all?

The media, in their never-ending quest to crown the winner - over and over again until it's nauseating - puff up this sham.

Iowa, in their never-ending quest to bring millions of free dollars to their state and over-inflate their self-importance, are all too happy to cooperate.

And their "results" rarely have anything to do with the reality of the political contest. Except to eliminate a couple of candidates - sometimes those who have no chance to win, and sometimes those who might well have been the best President of the lot.

Spare us!

coal carrier| 1.1.12 @ 8:47AM

They expect 150,000 voters to attend their caucuses. 150,000 out of 2.9 million eligible voters. If republicans make up 40% of the voting block, that’s equal to 1.1 million eligible Republican voters.
So 13% of the Republicans will pick their favorite. That’s only 5% of the total Republican voting block.

Let’s say Ron Paul wins with 25% of the vote. That means 37,500 voters out of 2.9 million went for Paul. That is less then 2% of all Iowa voters. This does not or sound like there is a large motivated force to unseat Obama. No wonder he has a good chance for reelection.

coal carrier| 1.1.12 @ 8:52AM

"That’s only 5% of the total Republican voting block."

Sorry, 5% of all voters in Iowa.

bill| 12.30.11 @ 10:10AM

For GOP voters, SC and FL have more weight than NH and IA.
NH and IA are the two smallest states, except the first primary and the first caucus, they are incapable of determining the GOP nominee.
For instance, in 2008, Huckabee won the IA caucus, and McCain got the GOP nod, wining NH Primary.
More evidence. McCain snatched NH while Bush grabbed IA, clinching the GOP nod eventually.
We can see a trend in the GOP Presidential race. Winners of either NH or IA will get the GOP nod.
Could it be any different in 2012?
We'll see about that.

Vern Crisler | 12.30.11 @ 11:29AM

The failure of conservatives to get behind one good conservative candidate means that Romney is going to win. He will be the "accidental" nominee.

Of course, conservatives don't seem to care too much about the electoral strategy, as long as they get an ideologically pure and baggage-free candidate, one that they can support all the way down the line right up to the moment Obama is reelected President.

JimP| 12.30.11 @ 1:23PM

I keep hearing how conservative Iowans are. So I checked the presidential elections going back to '92. They voted Democrat 4 of the 5 elections. They have open caucus voting which means Dems and Indies can vote in the GOP causes. Why does anyone in the GOP pay attention to this circus like sham?

Would love the hear from Iowans re my question. Blast away.

Drunken Sailor| 12.30.11 @ 2:01PM

Bingo Jim. People assume since Iowa is heavily religous they are conservative. Au Contraire, they are mainly the religous left.

JimP| 12.30.11 @ 3:59PM

Interesting, DS. Thanks for the insight. That helps explain some of their GOP choices in the past too I guess.

Come on Iowans. Let's hear from you. WTF gives with you folks? Why bother having a GOP at all? Is it just a sham GOP that you use as a joke on the RINOs inside the beltway?: 'Ha, ha. Psyche! Gotcha GOP establishment! Now that we selected(fill in a name of big government GOP person) and we caused internal dissent between you and the conservatives in the GOP, we are going to vote Dem.' Is that what it's all about?

m| 12.30.11 @ 1:37PM

I am conservative. If Romney does get the nominee (if these RINOS like Peggy Noonan, Karl Rove, Ann Coulter said that Romney can beat Obama.), the Republican Party will lose the White House. Romney can't beat Obama. It is just like happened in 2008 when Sen. McCain lost the election. The conservatives and Tea Party will stay at home on Election Day and will not for vote Romney. The GOP is in real trouble and they need to do some more clean house after the 2012 election is over. The RINO's should leave the GOP and join with the Democratic Party.

Dick Nome| 12.31.11 @ 8:23AM

Be advised, Conservatives and Tea Party will NOT stay home. If you are idiot enough, go ahead and you will earn our eternal comtempt.

Ron| 12.30.11 @ 1:56PM

Ah, Timothy...Awesome as always...I see Jack just had to go on his anti-Jewish attacks, again...I love his attitude..."I don't hate Jews, I just do not want them around me, or preferable in a camp somewhere." And then Clint chimes in with his Dr. Paul robo-posts...Where is Purp this fine day? Did his mother and mother, or father and father ground him to his room again and off the computer?

Let's face it...If Iowa is so vital to conservatives, then we are sunk, based on the last few electoral surveys...They have gone blue just about every time.

Try this on for size.
Does anyone here really believe that it matters zero who the next president is?
The problem America is facing is the career politician.
Ah, that lawyer from (insert your state here) who was sent to Washington DC to speak in your stead.
That magical person who came into Congress some 25 years age with $400,000 in student loan debt, not to mention the cost of his/her rise to the top.
Just a quarter century later, this representative of yours leaves with between 2.5 and 5 million in the bank, a lifetime pension, lifetime health care, (the very finest, of course).
Okay, you say, my rep did a lot for my state, so he/she deserves to be well compensated.
Fair enough, I agree that people deserve to be paid a fair wage. How about the laws they pass that we the people are commanded to obey, yet they have no compunction about exempting themselves from these very laws.
No my friends, the career politician is the real enemy of America, regardless of party.
Imho, the only hope America has of restoring her once great place in the world, in every manner, is for us, Americans, to begin the process of eliminating the career politician.
We must DEMAND an end to the lobby.
We must DEMAND an end to our role in the United Nations and remove them from American soil.
Oh, and getting rid of the central bank in America wouldn't be a bad idea.

martin j smith| 1.1.12 @ 8:45AM

And an end to phoney debates which are not debates. And in addition any debate format must include the following : Why the candidates wants to be dPresident and how they will make things better. In addition to why the Socialist candidate is wrong on the issues and specifically what issues and how. These among other things.
