Campaign Crawlers

Newt’s Last Chance

Instead of complaining about Romney’s attacks, he should launch his own.

Negative ads work; whining about negative ads doesn’t. Newt Gingrich is just wasting time by complaining about them. Who cares if Mitt Romney hasn’t disavowed attack ads? The question is: Why haven’t Newt and his friends launched their own?

Voters want a “positive” candidate, says Newt. No, they don’t. Candidates whose supporters have the money to run ceaseless attack ads against their opponents do just fine with voters.

“And you now understand my entire strategy for the next two weeks,” Gingrich said to the press this week. “The state of Iowa must choose between the negative and somebody who wants to be positive.”

Iowans look ready to take up this dare and choose the negative. Ron Paul, who has no qualms about running negative ads, is thriving there.

This is no time for Newt to reinvent campaigning and bemoan the inevitable. If he has any chance of beating Romney, he will need to go negative too and fast. To the extent that Tea Partiers respond to Newt, they respond to his negativity — those moments when he taps into his inner reactionary.

Newt once memorably described Bob Dole as the “tax collector for the welfare state.” He needs to coin a similarly devastating description of Romney. That would be a much better use of his time than bleating about Romney’s refusal to condemn attack ads from a Super Pac run by former staffers. That idle complaint from Newt has just allowed Romney to shift the focus from his thin skin (on display during the Bret Baier interview) to Newt’s.

Were the field less wobbly, Romney’s past as a liberal Republican from Massachusetts would have sunk him a long time ago. But Romney and his supporters have skillfully succeeded in making the race about Newt’s disqualifying past as a scandal-tarnished insider and erratic leader. Gingrich had deftly pushed back against this line of attack in one of the debates — noting that Romney’s inability to beat Ted Kennedy explains his status as an outsider — but not so well recently.

And so much of the talk in the last couple of weeks has been about how Gingrich’s past makes him permanently untrustworthy. But if that is the case, why doesn’t Romney’s past as a RINO define him forever too? After all, both candidates , perhaps implausibly, say that they have changed. Why is only Romney’s declaration of change accepted?

By not skewering Romney’s past, Gingrich has allowed the focus to stay on his. Where are the attack ads reminding primary voters that Romney voted for Democrat Paul Tsongas, gave money to Planned Parenthood, supported homosexual scoutmasters, supported homosexual domestic partnerships, didn’t want to “return to Reagan-Bush,” supported Global Warming alarmism, and accepted the politically correct consensus on any number of issues? Gingrich and his allies have plenty of material to mine for ads.

Typical of Gingrich’s haplessness this week were the attacks on him for lashing out at judicial tyrants. Hit from all sides, he is seen as at once too liberal and too extreme. At a time when Romney should be explaining himself to conservative voters, Gingrich is doing all the explaining.

So his proposal for curbing judicial activists became the focal point of frenzy while Romney’s record of actually appointing them continued to go largely unnoticed. Republicans will have no grounds to complain if Romney becomes President and appoints Souters to the court. That’s what he did in Massachusetts. The Boston Globe and others have noted that Romney’s recent rhetoric on judicial activism bears no relationship to his record. He nominated plenty of judicial activists to the courts.

Why isn’t Gingrich talking about that? That is of far more interest to conservative primary voters than a boring debate about Super PACs.

It's not too late for more candidates to enter the race. Perry shot to the top the first day he announced and the right candidate could too. Not another Bush-Amnesty please. DeMint, Barraso, Rubio, Pence, Steve King, etc.

Jack in Wi.| 12.22.11 @ 7:37AM

Newt Romney are the same person. It is like your left hand slaapping you right face. Mr. Neumayr: The reason Ron Paul's adds have worked is because every word in them is the truth. Gingrich always had a mountain of baggage that always made him unelectable and unacceptable. It was all going to come out sooner or later. Far better it came out sooner. Neut doesn't want to run negative adds. He is saving all the dough for his foundation when he drops out of the race by no later then Martin Luther King day.

Mr Neumayr again ignores or insults the only candidate who embodies the the Catholic doctrines of Subsidiarity, Just War Theory, Proportionality in conduct of wars, and pro-life policy. That man is not even Catholic. Ron Paul is a fine Evangelical Protestant who lives by the words of Jesus. " Blessed are the peacemakers. What you do to the least of my brothers you do unto me Those who live by the sword will die by the sword "

W| 12.22.11 @ 8:16AM

Jack,
Ron Paul's domestic policy is not the issue or problem. His small government approach resembles the principles of Subsidiary.

The problem is his foreign policy. He believes we, the USA, are responsible for the 9/11 attack and the Islamic terrorrism. This is absurd and has absolutely nothing to do with any Catholic, or Protestant or Jewish, doctrine of Just Wat/proportionality.

Just war is simply that a country acts to defend itself and not as an agressor.

We are defending ourselves from the terrorrists. An example of the agressor is Japan and Nazi Germany in WW II. Proportionality is more complicated but basically that we do not "overreact" to an attack. These are only principles with many exceptions. For example, you can make a good case that overreaction saves lives in the long run. We dropped two atom bombs on Japan that ended the war and saved millions of lives that would have been lost in the projected invasion of Japan. There is a good case to be made that a similar attack on a terrorrist country would end the terrorrism against the USA and let everyone know we are serious. This should have been done back in 1979 when our embasssy employees were held hostage.

Also, Ron Paul, as part of blaming the USA blames Israel for the terrorrism. There is no Catholic doctrine that says you abandon your friends and allies and allow them to be destroyed. The only doctrine that says that is the doctrine of appeasement and stupidity, which you can see practiced by Jimmy Carter and Barak/Hillary daily.

vb| 12.22.11 @ 8:38AM

Doesn't Paul's endorsement of Cynthia McKinney bother you? The man is a flake, and not just wrong on foreign policy. He has accomplished nothing on domestic policy either. Who would he put in his cabinet?
Quite frankly, I doubt that he has read anything about AQ or jihadism. He's just another version of BO when it comes to foreign policy: Speak first and hope someone can cover your a** later.

" Ron Paul takes lead in latest Iowa poll

Texas Rep. Ron Paul is now atop the field in Iowa of Republicans looking to unseat President Obama next year.

Paul has the support of 27.5 percent of likely voters for the Jan. 3 caucuses, which kick of the 2012 race for the Republican nomination for president in less than two weeks, according to a poll conducted by Iowa State University/Gazette/KCRG.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich finished a close second, with 25.3 percent, followed by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who took 17.5 percent."

Did not know about the endorsement. When did he endorse her and for what?

vb| 12.23.11 @ 6:42AM

I think Clint's very polite reply to me includes the link showing why Paul endorsed her. If I understand him correctly, it was because she wanted to give more attention to off-the-wall candidates. At some point, he should question whether signing a pledge to his principles is a reason to vote for someone. Paul is obviously not interested in basic competentence. Judging by his voting numbers analysis from which he concludes that 60% of voters agree with him, I would say that his own competence is also in question.

This "Catholic Doctrine" is pure crap. We are dealing with Islamists who want to kill us. In my book, it's either them or us. They've already proven time and time again they are unwilling to live in peace, and that they want to die for their "Allah". Let's just grant their wish, and kill the bastards. A couple of nukes ought to let the rest of them know we are serious.
I don't give a damn if they respect us, as long as they fear us!

W| 12.22.11 @ 9:08AM

There is no "Catholic Doctrine" that you cannot defend yourself.
I don't know if Jack is talking about pacifism, or the "turn the other cheek" Biblical verse, where you do not defend yourself. If this is the case, then you as one individual may choose to die rather than defend yourself, BUT you cannot make that choice for others. I cannot say You have no right to defend yourself, and I cannot say to Israel you have no right to defend yourself.

Is he correct?

Margie| 12.23.11 @ 8:50PM

You've got it wrong, Papist Idolator:

You Papists are the ones who make up your own Bible.. like Mary Queen of Heaven, without SIN.

We Christians REJECT your blasphemous Idolatrous Apostate CULT.

You blashpemous liars have the job of trying to make it look like we're doing what YOU'RE actually doing: REJECTING THE SCRIPTURES AND REPLACING THEM WITH YOUR OWN FALSE AND UNBIBLICAL TEACHINGS!

Repent lying Idolators:

"But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the polluted, as for murderers, fornicators, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their lot shall be in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur, which is the second death." Rev. 21:8.

"Everyone transgressing and not abiding
in the doctrine of Christ does not have God.
The one abiding in the doctrine of Christ,
this one has the Father and the Son.
If anyone comes to you and does not
bear this doctrine, do not receive him into
the house, and do not speak a greeting to
him.
For the one speaking a greeting shares
in his evil works." 2 Jn. 2:9-11.

"I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you in the Grace of Christ and turning to a different gospel-- not that there is another gospel, but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the Gospel of Christ.

But even if we, or an Angel from Heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to that which we preached to you, let him be accursed.

As we have said before, so now I say again, If any one is preaching to you a gospel contrary to that which you received, let him be accursed." Gal. 1:6-9.

Margie| 12.23.11 @ 9:33PM

This war is dangerous to America because it’s based, not on gender equality, as Mr. Giuliani suggested, or any other kind of freedom, but simply because of what we do in the Islamic World – because ‘we’re over there,’ basically, as Mr. Paul said in the debate.”

Scheuer also agreed with Dr. Paul’s statement in the debate that the war in Iraq was a diversion from capturing or killing Osama bin Laden and that bin Laden was “delighted” that the U.S. is occupying Iraq as it has become a training ground and recruiting tool for new jihadists joining the movement."

I'd say I hate to point this out, but I'd be lying... Islam has been at war with the rest of the world since it was established. They have ALWAYS been out to conquer and subdue every culture that is not theirs. Heck, you can't even be a different flavor of the same basic religion as far as they are concerned. What the USA does has no bearing on that. Even if we stayed on this side of the pond they'd still be out to destroy us.

Secondly, Ron Paul is as week on foreign policy as were all those yid pantywaist Commies I had to deal with in the 1930's! He's a freakin' isolationist that will do nothing to protect his country from the scourge of Islam, and let's not forget boys...who ARE the Muslims? Why, the sons of Ishmael, that's who! And who was Ishmael? Why, the whore-son of Abraham!! And WHO was Abraham??? The father of the Jews!!! So don't ya' see lads? It's as plain as day if you take the time!! Just connect the dots!!!

Now look...Ron Paul is on our side on a few things, that's for sure! Why, just read his newsletter! It's like I said in '38 after the Germans ransacked all those Jewish stores - it ain't like they didn't have it coming'! But for the love of St. Pete, the guy is a loon! He's a disgrace, and those commie-lovin Democrats will eat him for lunch in a general election.

Boys, I have to go! It's as cold here as a witche's teat, and I hate the cold. Besides, I'm in the middle of a great Bridge game with Pius X, Cesare Borgia, and Machiavelli. Just between you and me, I don't trust Nicholo as far as I can throw him, but he mixes a good Bloody Mary!

It is too late to enter the race, because the road has been littered with too many carcasses of also-rans that anyone contemplating jumping on this train will surely see the end of the road rather than the light at the end of the tunnel.

The genetic flaws of the GOP has been laid bare these last several months. Allowing obvious faux candidates like Cain and Bachmann to rise to the pinnacle of opinion surveys shows how deeply out of touch the Iowans are with reality and how a modern country is intended to right itself.

The only choice left is an independent run by a man that is willing to take a stand for fiscal conservatism without the GOP social baggage that has enabled irrelevancy to become all-encompassing in the debate.

Any candidate will now be measured by his relationship to the strident anti-gay vomit of Santorum and the academic pablum of Newtie's attempt to undermine the judiciary. They both have poisoned the well.

Unfortunately, an indie run would hand BHO a rout.

Instead Romney called Obama a failure. I think that will have more resonance with voters. It builds on doubts they have about where the country is going, and allows them to ditch Obama for incompetence without having to deal with his ideology. Remember, Obama will say he is a pragmatist, and some still believe that. It is much harder to deny that he doesn't know what he is doing.

Purp| 12.22.11 @ 10:35AM

The Tea Party rocks !

The more compelling reason not to vote for Romney is Mitt's lengthy bishopship in the Mormon Church; a church with a legacy e.g., Brigham Young and His Wolf-hunters:

MORMONS: [The Encyclopedia Britannica, Eleventh Edition, London, 1911] ... In 1856 the Mormon “Reformation” had begun.... inspiration by the Church of assassination of any suspected of hostility to the Church, of opposition to the ambition of its leaders, or of an intention to escape from Utah and the control of Young; and the doctrine of “blood atonement,” which was introduced by Jedediah Morgan Grant (1817-1856) and by which the only remission for certain sins was the shedding of the sinner's blood, so that, according to Brigham Young, “cutting people off from the earth ... is to save them, not to destroy them.” Many outrages were committed by a Mormon band of desperadoes who called themselves “Wolf-hunters.” Young's agents doubtless killed William P. Parish of Springville, Utah, early in 1857, apparently because he was planning to remove to California; at about the same time a party of six, including two brothers named Aikin, travelling from San Francisco were arrested as spies, were acquitted, and then were attacked in their camp and murdered, one at least by an assassin who claimed that Young had given him the order; and at Mountain Meadows in Washington county, in the south-western part of Utah, on the 11th of September 1857, about 120 immigrants on their way to southern California, having been attacked four days before by Indians and Mormons and having made a bold defence, were tricked by a flag of truce carried by Mormons who pretended to be a rescuing party, and were killed by armed Mormon troops,[11] seventeen of the younger children being spared.

Newt may not be liking the ads against him, however they are relevant in that they show who Newt really is. He is Bi-Polar and if that isn't enough he isn't treating his problem. He is dishonest in all his dealings. He is angry and has burned so many bridges. NO one in Washington, especially his former colleagues want anything to do with him. It's judgement day Newt and we have found you wanting.

Drunken Sailor| 12.22.11 @ 10:22AM

"NO one in Washington, especially his former colleagues want anything to do with him"

In my view that's a plus. Most of them are fine with the status quo as it is. Newt may have done some things that were questionable but you can not deny his record of getting things done in the House. We need someone who can get things done now. Thomas Sowell puts it in very clear terms.

http://www.nationalreview.com/.....mas-sowell

Purp| 12.22.11 @ 10:52AM

Yeah, we need to put children to work! That will grow the economy ... they won't be able to eat, 'cause their dads are out of work ... but it'll teach the little buggers to stay at home and not work.
Oh, and we really need to put mirrors in space to light our highways - that's a good way to spend money (and he rails against green technologies? )
The Newt's a nutcase hasbeen. His time is over, good bye.

Drunken Sailor| 12.22.11 @ 12:03PM

Yea!! Heaven forbid we teach work ethics and the value of a job to inner city kids. I mean look at what its done to those kids in "Fly over" rural country that start looking for jobs as soon as they can!

And mirrors in space? What was Newt thinking? Doesn't he know that Obama and team prefer proper tire inflation and painting our highways and streets white to fight global warming.... Err I mean Climate change.

Purp| 12.22.11 @ 12:35PM

So NEWT says inner city kids aren't taught work ethic - really - and how did so many inner city kids make it out of the inner city? Magic beans? Ridiculous. Grinch is a bombastic windbag nutcase whose time has passed... ol' baggage boy is on his way to an asterisk in history - The only Speaker of the House thrown out by his own party ... what a creep.

Drunken Sailor| 12.22.11 @ 12:53PM

"and how did so many inner city kids make it out of the inner city?"

Versus how many who have never made it out?
The ones who made it out WERE taught a strong work ethic either by example or were encouraged to get a job. Twist it however you want (you know your going to anyway). Newt's idea was to boost self -esteem whereas getting something for nothing does not boost your self-esteem. Unless your a Liberal of course.

Occam's Tool| 12.22.11 @ 11:10PM

Also, Dr. Thomas Sowell, renouned economist and conservative thinker, has endorsed Newt. That my friends is high praise indeed!!!!

Mark in LA| 12.22.11 @ 3:26PM

Dr. Sowell does quite well on his own at the Hoover Institute. He doesn't prostitute himself like so many of the lefty whores in the MSM or academia, who perform a Monica Lewinsky daily in order to maintain their gigs in the media and the ivory towers.
And speaking of getting paid for being a fraud, how's Mike Mann and his famous hockey stick graph doing these day, eh?

Bill Hussein O'Stalin| 12.22.11 @ 7:16AM

Newt holds many similiar positions to Romney. How will he attack Romney for holding those positions? It's the same problem Newt would have with running against Obama.

Romney got there first which is always the smart move. In the meantime, it will be Romney. The only question is who will be the Vice-President.

If Perry is selected I think he and Biden could provide some national comedy in the debates. That is, if Biden isn't dropped and replaced with Hillary Clinton.

What's good for the Goose, eh George?

Right now, as you sit there , reading these profundities, the Republican House is doing something Extraordinary. They're making a Stand, on Principle. (I know. I'm as shocked as you are.)

They're funny things, Principles. But it's always better to have them, then to not. Of course, Johnny Boehnor, and the boys, still don't have their timing down right. There never should have been a "Tax Cut" (whatever) involving the only means of Funding Social Security. I don't know about You, but I heard that Social Security is going broke. I don't know about You, But I would have been going after Bojangles for wanting to RAID Social Security of BILLION$, so he could score a coupla Political Points. I mean, c'mon. We're talking about $20 here. Just like, if it were ME, I'd be nailing the SOB for cutting $500 BILLION from MEDICARE, to fund his Sequel to Logan's Run, and his Prequel to Soylent Green.

But, that's me.

Principles. Who do we know that has some? Does Romney? It doesn't seem so. He goes after Obamacare, while defending Romneycare. He defends his plan, with Semantics. State vs. Federal. What happened to: Individual?

Romney voted for DEMOCRAT - Tsongas? Gave money to Planned Parenthood? Is PRO Homosexual Scoutmasters? Still agrees with the Global Warming Idiots? And HE'S attacking other Candidates?

LUST. It's one of the 7 Deadly Sins. It burns a hole in your heart. It makes a Man do things.
Thou Shalt Not COVET. One of the 10 Commandments. Also a big no, no. These are afflictions, born of Ambition. And, when you combine the three? Well.......You're looking at it, with Romney.

I don't want someone who will do ANYTHING to get what he wants. Look at the THING, in the Oval Office. Does anyone believe that there's a line, out there, that he would REFUSE TO CROSS, for 4 More Years? Look what Romney has already done, in his Quest to slay the Windmill.

I want someone who will Follow the Guide Posts that our Founding Fathers laid down for us. We need CHARACTER, right now. We need someone to tell us the Truth. If all you've got is Negative Ads? Then, you're probably not the one we need.

We have that already.

Purp| 12.22.11 @ 10:54AM

What's wrong with a homosexual scoutmaster?
If you want to follow what the Founders laid down for us - break up the corporations. Mom and Pop shops don't ship jobs overseas - ever. What good are cheap products if no one has a job?

W| 12.22.11 @ 11:39AM

Purp
What section of the Constitution give the federal government the power to "break up" corporations?
As you probably do not know, corporations are set up under the laws of the state of incorporation.

Purp| 12.22.11 @ 12:40PM

What you apparently do not know, is that incorporation for over 100 years was a gift the government gave a business for specific purpose, such as building the railroads. It was temporary until the job was done. From Jefferson to Lincoln to Teddy and FDR to Eisenhower, even Adam Smith warned against the concentration of wealth and power and the enormous impact that would have on our democracy.
What we have now is the same Mercantile system that the Founders fought against (the British system) where huge companies buy off the politicians, one way or another, and the country does their bidding. We need to break the WalMarts and IBMs up where Multinational concerns trump our own national interests. They make money even if we all are out of jobs. If you have a job, do you care if it's with Joe's Hardware store or GE?

W| 12.22.11 @ 2:55PM

Answer the question, Purple.

Give me the legal citation for your idiotic statement that incorporation is a "gift" from the government. We are a free society that elects legislators to represent us to enact legislation.

The government works for us, they do not give us gifts, we are not subjects, you moron, we are citizens.

Each state govenrment has enacted laws that provide for incorporation of a business.
I thought you worked for a "Fortune 10" business?
Don't you know any better?

Al Adab| 12.22.11 @ 4:55PM

W:

W| 12.22.11 @ 5:23PM

Careful, you may give them the legal arguments and justifications that Purp is lookingf for. He is searching Chuckie Schumer's website for the answer. Or is it Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the Florida nut.

Larry| 12.22.11 @ 6:12PM

I don't know where you got your legal degree or your "gift" for legal history, but corporate charters are neither a "gift" nor were they intended to be "temporary." While it is true that corporate charters are granted by state governments, those charters come with a lot of conditions and laws attached to them. I would hardly characterize them as a "gift." And corporations do have a right to exist; state governments cannot withdraw the charter arbitrarily or capriciously.

Your knowledge of law and history, Purp, is stunted, at best.

chuck| 12.22.11 @ 9:07PM

Purp just makes this crap up as he goes along.

Larry| 12.22.11 @ 6:07PM

"Mom and Pop shops" may create a lot of jobs - as a statistic - over the nation collectively. But Mom and Pop shops don't create enough jobs LOCALLY. And they don't generate enough revenue LOCALLY by themselves to generate economic growth for a particular region or the nation as a whole. The only reason the NATION is prosperous is because of large corporations doing large amounts of business and using large amounts of REVENUE and CAPITAL to provide an optimal, wider set of economic benefits. If you abolish the corporation, it will only happen in a different way, by stealth in a black market - or, worse yet, the national economy will collapse, along with that welfare state you seem to love so much. You have forgotten the fundamental lesson of the 20th century: the economy of scale.

By the way, I've seen a LOT of low and moderate income people shop at Walmart. I don't ask them where they get their money.

TeaParty - yes, on full display over the Payroll Tax cut extension. They really don't give a d* about the American people as long as they get what THEY want. Get rid of these nutbags, they are destroying this country! Enough holding America hostage over needed legislation so they can extract concessions. They are destroying the Republicant party.

Indy| 12.22.11 @ 7:49AM

SCOTUS matters and as the article points out with Romney we are likely to see another Souter which would be troubling. However, with some of Newt's positions, I worry who he might choose, we all know what type of justice we would get with Obama. I don't like either of these candidates but the issue of Souter Newt should address. He should also contrast his view of the 2nd Amendment v. Romney. LI has the video link when Newt addressed the NRA in 2011 and a segment with Romney on the 2nd Amendment. I think Romney also addressed the NRA, I will look for a link and post if I find it.
http://legalinsurrection.com/2.....-varmints/

Indy| 12.22.11 @ 7:58AM

Romney did not attend in person, but he did send a video presentation in 2011, here's the link from hot air...when you listen to Mitt v. Newt speaking to the NRA there is a strong difference...just my 2 cents. http://hotair.com/archives/201.....reception/

VonMisesJr| 12.22.11 @ 8:21AM

An effective sales pitch never simply attacks the competition. This is exactly what Romney does never touting his own accomplishments.

Newt needs to tout his own strenghts, while at the same time comparing and contrasting Romney's shortcomings. For instance, Newt has recanted sitting on the couch with Pelosi touting AGW. Romney still stands by AGW. Newt can simply say, when the facts proved me wrong, I changed my position. Romney refuses to admit a mistake even when proved wrong.

Newt has explained that Heritage and he chose a middle ground on government health care and the mandate during HillaryCare. The people rejected it, as they do now, and Heritage and he recanted. Romney still defends RomneyCare. Would you like to have a leader that defends his mistakes at your expense?

Newt opposed the GOP liberal establishment and Boehner and the boys showed him the door as Speaker. Now he intends to reform the GOP, as well as the liberal policies of the White House and Bureaucracy. But Mitt just wants to be POTUS and McConnell and Boehner Party Leaders so they can wield the power. Would you not prefer a President that returns power to the people and the states?

Drunken Sailor| 12.22.11 @ 10:25AM

Exactly right, it should be a two pronged attack and the middle will follow.

Purp| 12.22.11 @ 10:59AM

Maybe he should have thought about that before he dropped his pants with mistress #1 and mistress #2 and who knows how many that DIDN"T become his wife. It's too late for baggage boy, he's on his way to an asterisk in history.

VonMisesJr| 12.22.11 @ 1:54PM

So you think Bill Clinton is scum? Was it Jesse Jackson that had the love child?

Do you only condemn conservatives for infidelity? Be a man and either condemn your own, weasel out with moral relativity or admit you are simply making partisan attack.

Al Adab| 12.22.11 @ 3:10PM

Von:
Of course its only Conservatives. Moral relativism remember? The Left adheres to free love as principle so anything goes. It is only those troglodyte Conservatives who claim to have values who can misbehave.

This requires the facetious font.

Purp| 12.22.11 @ 4:39PM

I did. Bill Clinton could have been a great president if only he kept his d* in his pants. Both of these guys are soooo arrogant regarding their sex lives.
But - we are talking about Naughty Newt today - and his morals aren't much to look up to, are they? If character is critical to being president, and I agree that it is, I'll take Barack Obama any day over Naughty Newt.

Occam's Tool| 12.22.11 @ 11:18PM

Character---like starting his career in Bill Ayer's home? Attending a racist church? Or buying his home with a loan mediated by a later to be convicted felon?

Obama may have better PRIVATE moralitry than Newt. But his PUBLIC morality is flawed.

He's not nuts, he's brilliant, especially when he wants to be.

No one even knows what has been buried in all the small print of this Obama crew....One thing we know...Something in our very Bones tells us our country is in GRAVE danger...You can not trust them and what they have secretly accomplished.
Newt is a powerful fixer, he sees the picture CLEAR as a bell...Its ringing loudly alerting us all..I say GOD help him he has a tremendous task ahead...look bravely..and do your choosing with great care and forsight!

Margie| 12.22.11 @ 5:10PM

It is indeed, Mimi.. (getting interesting). And you can count on me to stay in the fight, though I must admit to a little discouragement here and there, and yet I consider the consequences, or the alternative (Obama II) and pick myself right back up again.

Who wants to go down without a fight. if that is what is to happen to us. I'd rather die than not fight the good fight.

Obama probably masterbates to Newt's campaign poster. You are an idiot if you think Newt is the strongest candidate. Ron Paul's supporters will not vote for him. Neither will Democrats disgusted with Obama for his lies. Therefore, Newt will only get loyal partybots. There are nowhere near enough of them to beat Obama.

Drunken Sailor| 12.22.11 @ 4:12PM

TrueBlue| 12.22.11 @ 6:26PM

Better to shut the government down than enact horrible policies that destroy the country.

Frank Drackman | 12.22.11 @ 8:27AM

This is boring...
Anyone catch the " Navy First Gay Kiss" story...
Of course its 2 hot chicks kissing, which no True-Blood-Heterosexual-Male has a problem with, wish there was more of it actually...
Which is how it starts, someone bland and palatable like Jackie Robertson, and before you know it you have Al Sharpton running for President, who I voted for in the 2004 GA primary BTW.
Just wait tho, next year it'll be Two Fat Navy Chiefs(redundant, I know) tongue Kissing on the Quarterdeck of the Reagan...

Frank

PolishKnight| 12.22.11 @ 9:52AM

I'm a True-Blood-Heterosexual-Male and I have a problem with it.

Frank, a hot lesbian went on the Howard Stern show as the immature leftist giggled and explained to him that she had no interest in men whatsoever. The three-way where two women get turned on to men by kissing each other is largely a myth.

Homosexuality has broken out in our culture because heterosexuality is dysfunctional. Marriage was broken long before gays wanted to join in on the "fun" (they have a real surprise ahead of them.) It's rare to see a hot woman AT ALL these days as young women pierce strange places and paint themselves with tattoos making even a circus freak cringe. Young women are equally frustrated that the traditional 1950's breadwinner man that they crave has been replaced, by feminism, with a bunch of unmotivated slackers. Why should young men kill themselves to provide for a household when women will gripe about how oppressed they are as housewives and divorce him and make him live on the street while working 60 hours a week? They've seen that future from the way their fathers are treated (when they visited him once a year or so) and they don't want it. And no, thankfully I didn't personally experience that but I saw plenty of guys who did.

We live in a misandric society where women seethe with hatred of men or at least treat men like servants and ATM machines and many conservatives are ok with that in order to be a "Real Man".

Healthy heterosexual women don't find two attractive men kissing to be a turn on and that says something.

Frank Drackman | 12.22.11 @ 10:58AM

So your point is?????
and if your really a TBHM you remember where you were when you saw that Britney-Madonna-Christina Aguilera 3-way...

A prescription how Newt can prevail:

1. Stay focus on messages

2. Must tout his leadership role as speaker in the House, balancing the budget, reforming the welfare, and impeaching Bill Clinton

3. Campaign hard in IA and NH, and don't write off SC and FL

4. Don't repeat the same mistake. It's too late for Newt get a rebound in IA, but he must run ads explaining his stance on issues, and his strength of leadership and electability, comparing the differences with his rivals, in the remaining states, NH, SC, FL

5. Newt has the capacity to be John McCain of 2008, and several polls suggest the same pattern McCain infused in the 2008 GOP Primary, and It's Newt's turn

6. Newt is not Tim Tebow (it's Rick Perry) but he can be Mike Vick (conviction and redemption worked for him, should works for Newt)

Simon Templar| 12.22.11 @ 10:32AM

I think you should be runnning his campaign. Good advice.

bill| 12.22.11 @ 10:58AM

I wish I could!

canuckistani| 12.22.11 @ 12:03PM

1. Impossible
2. Too late, narrative written in stone.
3. Too late.
4. If you are explainin', you're losin'
5. McCain lost the general. Nuff said.
6. Mike Vick has lost a step, and his dream team is now a nightmare. Bad allegory.

Newtie is DOA. The Iowa repubs are so lost up their colons that they will entertain anybody by Willard. Pretty sad - becasue they have no idea what they are doing to the general prospects of teh GOP - which means they should not deserve first status. Enough!

Larry| 12.22.11 @ 5:56PM

Very, very good advice. I second Simon's motion. Except in point 5, I don't want Newt to be the McCain of the general election; he must criticize Obama ruthlessly and consistently.

TrueBlue| 12.22.11 @ 6:35PM

Iowa and NH can be tossed out the window, they don't matter for the big picture. Iowa has only voted Republican once since '88, and NH has only voted R once since '92. They aren't swing states anymore.

Sorry if you live in either of those states, but it's the truth. It's kind of like voting for a Republican for President in Washington, California, or New York these days.

Simon Templar| 12.22.11 @ 10:30AM

Georgy,

Instead of pretending to be a journalist, try being one.

Instead of claiming to be a conservative, try acting like one.

Instead of whining about how negative these campaigns have become and calling for Republicans to take the high road when dealing with Democrats, how about being more consistent when it comes to our own.

Instead of calling Gingrich a socialist try calling the socialist the socialist sitting in the white house.

Instead of just paying lip service to how great Ronald Reagan was, try following one of his first commandments, 'speak no ill of fellow republicans, save it for the enemy.'

Instead of knocking Gingrich for not sinking to the lowest common denominator and for not creating negative commercials filled with lies and propaganda, try holding Romney to account for creating them.

Instead of whining that there seems to be no candidates with integrity and honesty running, try supporting candidates that are trying to be honest, positive, and demonstrate integrity.

Instead of claiming Gingrich is just whining and doing nothing else, recognize that this is not true and he is planning a decisive response to these ads with corrections.

Mimi| 12.22.11 @ 11:30AM

Romney is showing defects of character in the way he defends all the attacks from his PAC. He is looking desparate for sure.
This thing will go on and on till winner takes all comes into effect...a lot can happen in the meantime...it will probably go down to the wire.

Margie| 12.22.11 @ 2:41PM

"Instead of calling Gingrich a socialist try calling the socialist the socialist sitting in the white house."

Thank ye, Simon.

Larry| 12.22.11 @ 5:54PM

Simon - see my replies to other posters below. Attack ads work. Don't blame George for his article; he is basically right. Newt needs to get going.

Wayne| 12.22.11 @ 10:34AM

What a stupid article. Make your choice base on who would be the best president, not on who does the better attack ads. Seriously this site use to have serious articles. What happened?

Storagesteve| 12.22.11 @ 11:12AM

I agree.

canuckistani| 12.22.11 @ 12:19PM

Serious articles would require more than selecting sentence fragments from a misheard speech in 1836 to justify their positions against everything.
Serious articles would require actual criticism of the policies that got us here - and it's very little to do with the current admin.
BHO's narrative of flyover country clinging to god and guns has been proven true again and again. But this clinging is a perversion and not a granite-steadfastness to the principles they attempt to defend.

The economy is 2/3's consumer consumption and we have near zero analysis on how undermining the middle-class with tilted tax and trade policies will ever buttress this sector. Instead we meander around trite superfluous topics and grant space to analyzing Newtie - a serial adulterer, liar and loose cannon that will be a disaster for the country.

I only want a candidate that will shut down the government until the BCS is a playoff system. This topic is as salient as any other. Discuss.

Larry| 12.22.11 @ 5:52PM

Canuckistani, that sounds like a deal to me! Lol! We need a BCS playoff system!

Larry| 12.22.11 @ 5:51PM

Um, if the attack ads are true, and make people reflect some more on a candidate's background and qualifications? You have to know the good and the bad about a person, don't you, in order to make a reasoned decision?

I would rethink your position if I were you about this article being "stupid," because attack ads do work in the right situation. Not all "attack ads" are a bad thing. They would have worked against Obama in 2008 if the GOP had had some guts and moxie to do it. The GOP is going to need to do it in the upcoming election.

bill| 12.22.11 @ 11:09AM

The GOP Primary circus continues, and I wonder why so many flawed candidates are rising in the polls, while few solid conservative candidates are struggling in the polls.

I hope GOP voters will not repeat the same mistake they did in 2008, nominating a flawed candidate, john McCain.

Rick Perry and Michelle Bachmann deserve to get a second look. They both championed on liberty and limited government. I hope they will prevail in the coming primaries and caucuses, IA, NH, SC, FL. I think Perry and Bachmann need to focus on SC, and especially in FL. Fl is a must win for GOP, and winning the FL primary will almost secures the GOP nominee. For instance, McCain won the FL primary and got the GOP nomination eventually.

RNC changed their primary process, prompting a lengthy and complicated primary battle, will only benefits Obama and the Dems. GOP Primary battle may continue until late June, and the winner will have only few months for campaign and fundraising.

I'm guessing Rick Perry will be the GOP nominee, and pray for him that he will defeat Obama in a landslide.

NeilBJ| 12.22.11 @ 11:31AM

If your definition of a solid conservative candidate is one who will lie to us to justify military intervention in another country, I will have none of your solid conservative candidate.

I am tired - no I am disgusted with our poking our nose into other countries' business. Is it any wonder that those countries hate us and wish to do us harm?

Read up about Eisenhowers's authorization to overthrow the leader in Iran in 1953. Read up about University of Chicago political science Professor Robert A. Pape's studies that show a coorelation between suicide bomber attacks and occupation by foreign troops.

TrueBlue| 12.22.11 @ 6:46PM

How about the correlation between an increase in Muslim populations and an increase in killings by family members? Or maybe just looking at history and realizing that particular culture has ALWAYS been about conquering anyone different than themselves, reducing freedoms, and killing anyone that doesn't submit.

(This is where you use the come back about how every country through history has done that) Then I point out that that hasn't been true for most of the Western world in the last hundred years and change because we've actually progressed as societies. Well, until recently, now we're backsliding intellectually due to our declining morales.

Romney is the GOP's best chance at beating Obama. There is no point in hoping that Bachmann and Perry wouldn't be a SERIOUS risk.

Neither Bachmann or Perry have any influence among independents and THAT is where general elections are won.

Look at the numbers and you'll find that I am right.

Or, you can fantasize - it's up to you. :)

bill| 12.22.11 @ 2:16PM

How can you be sure that Perry and Bachmann have no influence among independents, and that Romney has any sway among independents.

Romney is a RINO.

Perry and Bachmann are rock-solid conservatives. Independents seek solutions and leadership. Perry and Bachmann posses all. Independents will get behind them.

Ronald Reagan won majority of independent votes.

Perry and Bachmann will do so.

Mark in LA| 12.22.11 @ 3:37PM

Romney has the same chance as Newt and for the same reason's - see above.

NeilBJ| 12.22.11 @ 11:19AM

Newt is the guy who is going after judges whose rulings he disagrees with. Newt is also the guy who is going to ignore the Constitution once he gets elected. His anti-terrorism stance suggests to me that he will keep the unconstitutional Patriot Act. But that will be nothing new. Presidents have been ignoring the Constitution for years.

Nevertheless, this is hypocrisy of the highest order. I grant you that many judges have come to conclusions not justified by the Constitution, but his simplistic and albeit bombastic approach to the problem will open one giant can of worms.

He is just too scary for me.

bill| 12.22.11 @ 11:31AM

The Patriotic Act is constitutional.

Newt engineered the 1994 GOP revolt, balanced the budget, reformed the welfare, and impeached Bill Clinton.

Mimi| 12.22.11 @ 11:34AM

Neil this is no climate for ANYONE to ignore the Constitution...the people have and are changing and no one will stand for any President to try it.

Larry| 12.22.11 @ 5:45PM

Then what exactly do YOU propose for dealing with the inordinate and steadily usurped power of the Federal judiciary? I have two solutions: (a) go with Newt's formula of reducing the number of Federal courts and judges; and (b) passing a Constitutional amendment that limits the terms of service of Federal judges.

While that is not the same thing as requiring these judges to be elected, it will limit the damage. Who in God's name should be entitled in this country to a lifetime appointment to anything? I favor the concept of an independent judiciary, but I don't think what comprises our judiciary these days is what the Founding Fathers contemplated. They would now compare it to the tyranny and corruption of 18th century British jurisprudence they were thinking about when they first drafted the Constitution.

Don't be afraid of Newt, please. A man who lets his ideas on a subject evolve can be persuaded to let his less than perfect proposals go (e.g. subpoenaing federal judges). But we must use the Constitution as it was intended to force meaningful change to the Federal judiciary, whose powers have upset the Constitutional balance. Newt, at least, is walking the walk and not just talking the talk.

Phillip| 12.22.11 @ 11:55AM

Newt - the champion of Christian values!

Newt will be go down in flames against Obama. Romney, Perry and Bachmann would do better than Newt.

canuckistani| 12.22.11 @ 12:24PM

Romney has the only chance to slither around his record and con the independents to vote for him. Bachmann has no record, Perry is now pitied and the rest are delusional.

Margie| 12.22.11 @ 2:44PM

"Newt will be go down in flames against Obama."

Obama doesn't even believe in Jesus~ he believes in himself!

Purp| 12.22.11 @ 4:44PM

WHY? I'll assume that "socialist" is anywhere near a proper term for a pragmatic president.

Margie| 12.22.11 @ 5:14PM

Well, I despise Socialism, that's why. I guess you don't?
And Obama isn't pragmatic, he's SCHEME-matic!

Larry| 12.22.11 @ 5:34PM

Don't be an idiot. Pay attention to what is going on in Europe. You are probably an environmentalist, a zero population growth guy, too. That is also a real fine prescription for a welfare state: more benefits, fewer people to pay for them. Which is exactly what is happening in Europe. So if that is your idea of being "pragmatic," I'm out on pragmatic.

If we had a candidate who was serious about defending our borders, the same candidate would only want to help America in other ways as well, not the least of which is to get the economy moving again.

Gingrich has a plan about illegal aliens but this plan would never encourage illegals to self-deport, The same is true of all candidates with the possible exception of Bachman. I doubt she will get the nomination though.

This is sort of off-Gingrich but it is not off the radar for a presidential campaign by any means. What is going on with our top secret military technology? We get bin Laden but in doing so we lose one of our latest stealth and quietest helicopters which I read has made it to China already.

The Iranians get a stealth-looking drone 2 weeks ago which looked to be in perfect shape, as if it just landed at an airport. It's profile didn't look exactly like our latest drone but it may be one of our latest?

Today on Drudge, 69 Patriot missiles were found on a freighter in Finland bound for where? China. One or 2 missiles could be the work of terrorists, but 69????

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-16292244

Sorry to get off topic but the link was on today's Drudge report and I am beginning to think this may be more than just sloppiness on our part, although there's plenty of that in our security too. I thought it was important enough to mention.

But, open borders, possibly giving away military secrets, exporting jobs, inporting illegal laborers, terrible economic policies,......etc, etc. These are the topics all candidates, including Gingrich shouldbe focusing on! Not each other. Agree with him or not, Gingrich was doing this but now he's LOST much of his traction in this regard.

"The Iranians get a stealth-looking drone 2 weeks ago which looked to be in perfect shape, as if it just landed at an airport. " - you didn't notice they never showed the bottom? That's where a good chunk of the good stuff is. We'll never really know the truth - top secret s*.

BackToBasics| 12.22.11 @ 11:43PM

Could be the bottom was damaged but if it is one of ours or Israel's the stealth skin, the drone's shape etc. will still be a significant find for them. That's more what I meant when citing the 3 incidents.

In April with OBL, the American troops were said to put charges on the helicopter to try to stop our enemies form copying it. The super quiet tail rotor was totally intact and the top rotor was in good enough condition to reverse engineer. So they were either in too much of a hurry to do a good demolition, didn't set the charges correctly or were ordered to leave it mostly intact.

Was the helicopter the price we had to pay to do the raid deep in Pakistan territory?

I am not saying these were definitely done on purpose but I am raising the question and I would not be surprised if we were to ever find out that the Obam administration was doing this on purpose. Look at Clinton's executive order in 1996 that allowed sensitive misile guidance systems to be sold to China.

Either these incidents show sloppiness or they were deliberate. There can be no other reasons than these two.

BackToBasics| 12.23.11 @ 12:29AM

This is also on Drudge today. It's about Obam admin reinstating the nuclear scientists exchange program that we had in place which resulted in massive leaks of nuclear secrets.

newt is always 'reinventing' - and making himself center of the universe while writing notes to himself about how brilliant he is, about how he should speak, how he should look when speaking, how he should go 'soft' at times and firmer at other times, etc...and the woman in the picture with him, his former mistress, wants to be 'first lady' but I don't think many are going to accept her in that role...she apparently bragged to co-workers about how and where she and newt were having sex -for 6 years - while he was married and while she was claiming to be a practicing Christian...they are both strange, very strange people...and newt can re-invent himself as many times as he wants but he is still who he is at the core of himself - a totally self-absorbed man who cares for no one more than himself...and this is going to become more and more apparent as he goes on even though he says he is trying to 'control' who he is/how he is...that can only last for so long...the real newt, the megalomaniac newt, is always lurking beneath the surface ready to explode...beware!

Mimi| 12.22.11 @ 4:55PM

Sounds a little diabolical ....Good Grief!
I'm thinking a repentant Black Sheep type who always is left with the GUTS, the TRUTH and certainly not shy about revealing the sneaky warts of the supposed "GOOD GUY"
Newt is not perfect but the one with the "HEART" who for sure loves this country greater than himself.
Try and look at yesterdays Human Events ... Newt put out a remarkable Christmas message..Stunning!!!

Margie| 12.22.11 @ 5:16PM

Amen.

Margie| 12.22.11 @ 5:19PM

Anybody (Republican) but Obama 2012.
Except Ron Paul. Sorry, but somebody will have to try and convince me big time to vote for him if he became the nominee.

And speaking of repentance, Ron Paul needs to. If he were to repent of his whacky views, I could vote for him.

Margie| 12.22.11 @ 5:23PM

That said, though Romney has whacky views, the reason I could vote for him is I don't think he'd be an actual danger to this country.

He isn't a Blame America Firster, therefore he has some semblance of sanity about him.
He isn't MY choice though.

I'd rather Newt if it came down to having to choose between the two.

But I'd much rather Michele Bachmann or Rick Perry.
Santorum as well would get my vote, if he won the nomination.

NO more Obama, please!

Occam's Tool| 12.22.11 @ 11:28PM

Correct as usual, Margie. PRECISELY my take.

Margie| 12.23.11 @ 12:30AM

Thanks again!

Larry| 12.22.11 @ 5:28PM

George, your criticism is quite legitimate. Why are we who oppose Romney waiting until the fall to hear these criticisms? We certainly aren't hearing them at National Review, of course, because they have their heads up Romney's ass. But where are the attacks? Newt needs to get going. It's unfortunately too late for Iowa. But it's not too late for New Hampshire, South Carolina.

Romney is the one candidate I can (unfortunately) count on to appoint the very Souters that you talked about. Which is why I've been publicly criticizing the know-nothings on our side who've been savaging Gingrich. They are all talk when it comes to liberal judicial activism, but no action - because they want our side to play the same game! All the while the country is disadvantaged by this nonsense.

RCV| 12.22.11 @ 6:14PM

New Gingrich is politically dead. The chorus of Republicans who served with him in the House, attesting to his failure as a party leader and to his repellant personal qualities has tarred Gingrich beyond repair.

“Some people are willing to reconsider him. I’m not. His leadership skills back in the ’90s were not consistent with what I would want to see in the president of the United States.” Republican Congressman Steven LaTourette

I’m not endorsing Newt. Those of us who served with him, who watched his leadership up close, aren’t endorsing him. That says something.” Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher

Margie| 12.23.11 @ 9:08PM

Ughhh.

RCV| 12.24.11 @ 12:05PM

Occam, on a more substantive note, the news this morning that Gingrich failed to gather enough signatures to qualify for the Virginia GOP primary is reflective of what his GOP critics have said: a lack of focus on detail, a preference for the personal spotlight rather than the hard work necessary for organizational leadership. From the mass resignations of his campaign staff last summer to this latest fiasco, it's a damning confirmation of his lack of leadership.

This GOP primary will be seen in retrospect as a failure of conservatives in the party to capitalize on the momentum the tea party movement gave them in 2010. Their disarray has allowed Romney to prevail, one after the other, over a succession of conservative challengers, largely because of a failure of conservatives to unite.

Once he secures the nomination, the inevitable pressures of trying to attract independents and Democrats will move Romney back to his Massachusetts moderate roots, and conservatives will have lost their best chance since Reagan for a serious intellectual challenge to the Democrats. It's been a real fiasco for them.

Margie| 12.22.11 @ 8:41PM

Even if the Pope said he wouldn't vote for Newt, who cares?
If it comes down to Obama vs. Newt~ you're either a cultist who won't vote for Newt because he isn't one of your own~ meaning he isn't perfectly attuned to every single issue as perfectly as you want him to be~
OR It's Hail to the Fraud (Obama II) !!!!

I'm somewhat new to the Spectator (been browsing for a month or so), so I apologize if I'm mistaken in my impression of a number of bloggers here, but what's with the Comments Section?

I read (here) an article about Newt and negative ads, and the comments section is filled with people attacking each other for religious differences??? Have these people ever heard of the term, "off-topic?" Are there any moderators here?

Thankfully I clicked "No Thanks" to the donations pop-up that keeps appearing every time I come to this site, because it occurred to me that while there are many well written articles here, the site is populated by people that want to comment on everything BUT the article, resorting instead to attacking others based on religious reasons??????????

Wow. Ben Franklin once said, "A penny saved is a penny earned." Thank God I earned a penny by not donating to a site where, clearly, the comments section is an off-topic hate-fest.

Anonymous| 12.22.11 @ 11:04PM

Read the post above my original. What does her post have to do with the article?????????? Why is she critiquing the idiot above her with scripture?

How is any of it relevant to the original article?

Occam's Tool| 12.22.11 @ 11:40PM

Anonymous:

It is a discussion of Newt's baggage, and sins.

That's were Margie is coming from. (I like her a lot)

And no, the moderators pretty much sleep in a lot. That allows Clint and Jack and myself to go at each other hammer and tongs (of course, I have many more allies than they do 'cause I deserve it), and adds to the emotional catharsis that this site brings its commenters.

But a lot of us disagree and still like each other. For example, Ken and I disagree with RCV, but we like him. He's an excellent constitutional lawyer---bring up a point for enlightenment, for example (I'll do that here---RCV, any good intro books to the constitution for 8 year olds?). My expertise is medicine and psychiatry, (of course) Ken's is the energy industry. Stuart Koehl writes books on military technology and strategy. We have superb chefs (Con Chef), IT experts (Polish Knight), humanity professors (John II), a whole range of things. And then, several of the bloggers will get down in the trenches with us---Quin, Aaron, Ross, Jeff, to name a few. Post-American occasionally comes in from Height-Asbury's Republican Conspirator wing to make things, um, interesting.

It's quite fun, really. I subscribe to the Print Mag, too.

Have fun. Oh, and Merry Christmas and happy Chanukkah. Toodle-pip---I'm off to get Salt for my water softener at WalMart. And then, to play with The Cats. Wifey and kids are off to visit their family in 'Bama.

Margie| 12.23.11 @ 9:28PM

Bydand,

This place happens to be filled with them, and most of them are blatant liars.

They reject the Bible and constantly misrepresent not only what it says, but any time a Christian posts biblical truth~ they decimate them.

I'm here to proclaim the Bible as God's Truth.. but not just that, I'm a conservative to the core too. And contrary to popular belief, you cannot have one apart from the other!

What one believes in is almost always reflected in their politics.. and it shows here.

It's spiritual warfare and it's ongoing till He returns. Each one of us either worships the real Jesus of the Bible~ or our own created Jesus, spoken of by Popes.. or Jihadis.. or Mormons.

It's important that we defend the Gospel, and Jesus expects us to.
I despise liars who try and paint Bible believing Christians in the way that these filthy Idolators like Clint and W and Mike G and many, many others do here.

And so does God. He actually WILL throw them into Hell, because they lie, and reject His Words. It's a promise. Rev. 21:8.

"He who does not love Me does not keep My Words; and the Word which you hear is not Mine but the Father's Who sent Me." Jn. 14:24.

Consider: The Bible says that the Anti-Christ will perform PRETENDED signs and wonders (miracles).

Who does this, already?

Who already pretends he's Christ on Earth, and millions bow to him as if he is Christ? Who already CLAIMS he's the "Vicar" of Christ on Earth and has never repented of this Apostacy? Who put to death millions of Bible believing Christians for six centuries because they refused to accept the blasphemous teachings of Catholicism, and has never repented of it yet, but still teaches the same teachings that led them to do so?

The same hatred is spewed out here towards ANY Christian who DARES engage it's current adherents with Scriptures that destroys its blasphemous teachings.

Jesus is LORD.
And yes, we do agree politically. Just remember, it isn't against flesh and blood that Christians fight, but the Devil himself.
And it isn't people I hate, but false DOCTRINE.

But, that is what they try and turn it into. They feel they have license to lie!

God bless, and Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Margie, you should believe RCV best wishes for you.

Believe me, I understand all of your reservations about the Catholic Church. I was born one, attended catechism and the whole bit until I was 12, when I told my parents I didn't want to go to church anymore. I never got answers to questions about why the rules kept changing, such as couldn't eat meat on Friday, then we could, and a whole bunch of others. The answer I always got was because the Pope said, and when I asked who told the Pope, I was told God told the Pope.

Anyway, for a number of years, until 21, I was agnositic and even said I didn't believe in God. That is, until I met a fine lady who answered all of my questions and I accepted Jesus as my personal Saviour. It is truly a miracul0us thing and cannot be described to anyone who hasn't had such a conversion.

I completely understan your concerns with Catholics. After all, as much as I know, parishoners are never encouraged to read the Bible for themselves. I suspect because if they do read for themselves they may come across Scriptures like, "do not forbid men to marry lest they burn with lust". Then they may question the Church's prohibition against allowing priests to marry.

I do have a problem when you lump all Catholics together and I get the impression you don't believe any of them are true Christians who believe in the five fundmentals of the Christian faith. I suspect there are some fine Christians who are Catholics.

Some of the stuanchest conservatives and smartest people and supporters of Christian
principles are Catholics. William Buckley, Bill Bennett, Clarence Thomas, Antonin Scalia, and Rick Santorum are a few who come to mind.

I am non-denominational, but definitely lean in the direction of Southern Baptists and like to atten Bible Churches.

Please be careful about lumping all of them together. Yes, tell them what God has to say about whatever the issue is, but be careful about questioning who is a true believer. Billy Graham comes to mind. I was stunned that he has always been and is still a staunch democrat despite what that nasty party believes today. Yet I don't think you would question that he is a believer.
