Gloomy Days in Durban
Climate change comes to $100 billion and counting — nice government work if you can get it.
“I’m in the egg-laying business,” Henny-Penny said, “but the world champions are the members of the college of cardinals of global warming meeting in Durban South Africa right now. They came to drum up a successor to the Kyoto Accord and will go home with nothing.”
Ms. H-P knows everything there is to know about the global warming religion, having been until recently the founder and recording secretary of The Holy Order Of The Sky Is Falling (THOOTSIF). Having seen that its dire prophecies have not been coming true, she is now a leading skeptic.
She continued: “Have your noticed that it’s springtime in Durban, South Africa? Nearly every one of the several hundred delegates to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change conference is on some government’s payroll — or the UN’s — and they came by airliner without noting the irony of the thousands of pounds of carbon they were pumping into the air by doing so.”
ME: Tell me about their goal at this meeting.
H-P: The same thing they’ve had at all these meetings. They want a legally-binding agreement between the world’s “rich” nations to put $100 billion a year into a fund to help “poor” nations cope with global warming. You can imagine how that would be spent.
The U.S. isn’t a party to Kyoto, and Canada is withdrawing from it. They and Japan and Russia have signaled they won’t sign on to this new pact. China and India will stand aside unless the others sign. Result: a giant goose egg (many times the size of the ordinary eggs I lay every day in the hen house).”
ME: There was a strong note of desperation in the conference statement released by one Virginia Dandan, the UN Independent Expert on Human Rights and International Solidarity. Among other things, she called for “old and new polluters to confront the massive, irreversible damage that has already been caused.” She appealed to the “Global Village” that the Durban negotiations “are a make or break for humanity.… Failure in Durban would impact on the three pillars of the UN, namely, peace and security, development and human rights.”
H-P: It’s just more scare talk. Note that she mentioned three UN “pillars,” but named four. She needs to go to a remedial arithmetic class. The global warming cardinals pulled out all the stops to hype this event. They had the International Energy Agency issue a report that global warming would become “catastrophic and irreversible” by 2017 if the world’s nations didn’t buy into their proposed carbon restrictions. This is as believable as that minister in California who predicted the end of the world on a particular day last spring.
ME: No doubt the scientists who talk up “global warming” and “climate change” are sincere in their beliefs. Yet, they crank into their computers data about increased temperatures here and there and come out with hard-and-fast predictions about future temperatures, rising sea levels and melting glaciers.
H-P: Yes, and they defend their theories fiercely. Remember in 2009 just before the big Copenhagen conference, there was a revelation of many e-mails among them, conspiring to besmirch skeptical scientists and repress contrary data? Michael Mann, a Penn State professor, and that fellow who runs the East Anglia climate center in England were among the worst. There was a new exposé of e-mails by this pair and others just prior to the Durban conference. They haven’t changed their ways.
Even the Associated Press buys into their theories. As the conference opened, it wrote, “As if to illustrate the effects of global warming, a fierce storm on the eve of the talks flooded shack settlements…” Really? It could as easily have been a sign of God’s ire at the foolishness of the global warming enterprise, telling its cardinals to pack up and go home.
ME: What of Al Gore in all this? He was the Pontiff of your THOOTSIF.
H-P: He turned out to be 100 percent hot air.
ME: Since the global warming cardinals have not come up with a way to meet the world’s need for energy in place of hydrocarbons, I’m tempted to think that the underlying motivation of the climate change movement is that of the pure ecologists who believe that humans are despoiling the planet and producing too many children and that the remedy is draconian birth control and sharply reduced standards of living.
H-P: You may be right.
Mr. Hannaford first met Henny-Penny when she founded The Holy Order Of The Sky Is Falling. Recently, she concluded that it is not falling.

I can only hope that the theory of Anthropogenic Global Warming is going down for the count. The recent release of yet more climategate e-mails show the purely political nature of the idea. My only fear is that the general public is running from AGW in droves only because of the state of the economy, and will allow themselves to be fooled again when things pick up. We need leaders in Congress who will not let up in the investigations of Solyndra, and a President who will reign in the excesses of the EPA, (or better yet, dismantle it entirely). But the real reason to abandon AGW is not just because it is political, but because the science behind it is shot full of holes. How can we continue to trust science if those who practice it are willing to debase it by fraud and data manipulation? The damage done to the reputation of science and scientists by the extreme environmentalists is already huge, in terms of dollars (Solyndra, as one small example) and human lives (banning of DDT). AGW needs to have a stake driven through it's heart, it's head cut off, and it's mouth filled with garlic. For starters.

People are too preocupied with the Mayan Calendar right now to spend much time on something arguably years in the future -- the same people believe that the world will end next December, so why get excited about AGW that wont happen for 5 years we will never experience?

There is a good side to MMGW. I look at it this way, if the oceans rise there is a good posibility that The New York Times gets washed away. If that happens the poor fish have more polution to deal with. Sad, I have nothing against the fish either.

The global warming conspiracy needs to be put in perspective to be properly understood. This far-left attack by government-paid drones started in the 1970′s with the global cooling scam: we should disarm our nuclear bombers and fill them with soot to be spread over the poles and so prevent those new glaciers from descending south and crushing the New York skyscrapers to dust. When that did not work the same fakers invented the global warming hoax in the 1990′s; we should nationalize all industries and organize a UN-sponsored world socialist government based on “social justice” with the fakers in charge. What with 12 years of substantial cooling the fakers switched to the climate change flimflam in the 2000′s; so whatever happens we should…see above under the global warming hoax. And now we are faced with the cap & trade power grab – but the aim is the same as above. Our socialists, Marxists, communists, Hollywood stars, university professors in social and political “sciences”, and environmentalists are all clamoring for action while spurring President Obama ("Tomorrow the oceans will stop rising and the planet will start healing") and his 35 czars/commissars to undertake immediate measures to save the planet – with the same aims as described above. It is evident from the above quote that our President believes himself to be either Jesus come back to Earth, or at least the 13th Imam so ardently desired by that jihadist terrorist Ahmadinejad. Like to the Pinocchio in the fable, Obama’s nose grows longer with every lie he pronounces, while jumping up the steps to his teleprompter like a marionette.
In the meantime our Main Stream Media are unanimous in spreading this criminal propaganda daily; the ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, NPR, NY Times, Washington Post, not forgetting our own Las Vegas Sun, etc. drive this drivel constantly. What is totally ignored are the detailed descriptions of faked data, skewed computer programs, politically revised conclusions by the UN-sponsored far-left clique of biased non-scientists – all government-paid drones that no private enterprise would hire. Another thing ignored is the “Global Warming Petition” (see Internet) where 31,487 independent US scientists (including 9,029 of them with PhD degrees) dispute decisively the findings of the UN-sponsored panel; also ignored is the “Manhattan Declaration on Climate Change” (see also Internet) where a smaller number of competent world scientists, about 712, including 142 pure climatologists, state the same – i.e., that the man-caused catastrophic global warming is a farce. The books by Christopher Horner, Robert Carter, and AW Montford describing the lies, fakes, phony data, opposite conclusions, redacting by UN political hacks, reverse graphs, etc., have exposed this far-left propaganda in painful detail.In the case of the above mentioned Petition, several "environmentalists" had submitted phony names with phony credentials in order to sabotage that effort. It took several years of painstaking and expensive effort (we contributed private money for that) to clean up the list from those saboteurs and verify all academic and professional data of the signatories. To put this whole conspiracy in terms of numbers, let me say that the projected world-threatening increase of carbon dioxide of 100 ppm (parts per million) by the end of this century would increase thermal absorptivity of the atmosphere by one-eighth of one percent; that is the definition of something totally negligible. On the other hand the sun cycles of cooling and heating are thousands of times more powerful with regard to the carbon dioxide in the air; when the sun is cold the oceans absorb many millions of tons of it; and when the sun heats up the oceans release the carbon dioxide in quantities thousands of times bigger than anything the mankind could produce. To illustrate this point in more accessible terms to somebody who is not a climatologist or a scientist or an engineer; the argument of catastrophic anthropogenic (human-caused) global warming issued by our panic driven socialist/marxist government-paid hacks is like saying that a burp of a lonely wolf in Alaska will transform Florida into a Sahara-like desert - tomorrow! As for that bloviating gasbag and “climatologist” Al Gore as well as for Dr. Mann who inverted cause and effect in his "studies" - they should be brought to the International Court in The Hague on charges of crimes against humanity.

you forgot to mention that man-made global warming lacks, besides a credible data set that presumably was eaten by Jones dog, a testable hypothesis. Science demands it. Without it, GW, or the watered-down "climate change," is not scientific and can never be proved/disproved. The triumph of politics indeed.

Long term modelling of the climate is no different in mathematical terms than is short term weather forecasting. We know how that turns out. And we're supposed to commit trillions using predictions that are permanently infected with chaos? Do these idjuts actually know any math?
