Organized Ignorance

“Occupy Wall Street” mobs know so much that isn’t so.

Joe Schoffstall went to New York’s Zuccotti Park last week and found a man holding aloft a hand-lettered sign with the slogan, “Arrest the Bankers.” Schoffstall, a young reporter for Brent Bozell’s Media Research Center, asked the man a simple question: “What are your thoughts on Israel?”

The protester’s response, captured by the MRC’s video camera, was memorable: “Israel is white Europe — eastern Europeans — who has [sic] usurped and occupied Arab land, and they have displaced the indigenous Arab Palestinian people at gunpoint. When Israel was founded in 1948… in 1949, Israel secretly began working on a nuclear… atomic nuclear program to wipe out her neighbors. So the hatred of the Arabs for Israel is understandable.… And I’ll say that the Jews control Wall Street. Google ‘Jewish billionaires.’ Google ‘Jews and the Federal Reserve bank.’ Google ‘Jews and Wall Street.’ America’s finances is [sic] controlled by the Jews. Wall Street, the media, the legal profession — Jewish money is the engine in politics.… The Jews commit more white-collar crime than any other ethnic group on the earth and they go unprosecuted because they can buy their way out of it.”

It would be unfair to conclude from this one demented example that the “Occupy Wall Street” movement is significantly motivated by, or deliberately tolerant of, paranoid anti-Semitic conspiracy theories. But the rant recorded by Schoffstall’s camera crew was not the only example of such kook-fringe beliefs among the mobs that have descended on lower Manhattan and other urban spaces across America in the weeks since these anti-capitalism protests began. Documented examples of anti-Semitism among the “Occupy” crowds were sufficiently numerous to prompt the Emergency Committee for Israel to release an online ad questioning support for the demonstrations voiced by Democratic Party leaders, including President Obama, who said the movement “expresses the frustrations that the American people feel.”

Obama’s invocation of “the American people” and their “frustrations” might permit some other conspiracy theorists to suggest — with far better evidence — that the protesters camped in Zuccotti Park are part of a deliberate effort by the president and his party to undermine the free enterprise system. Several conservative commentators have interpreted “Occupy Wall Street” in light of Saul Alinsky’s radical maxim: “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, polarize it.” Others see the anti-capitalist mobs in the context of the “Cloward-Piven Strategy” to foment a crisis that would bring about a socialist revolution. This suggestion cannot be lightly dismissed. One of the architects of that 1960s-era strategy, Professor Frances Fox Piven, is an active supporter of the movement and told a public-radio interviewer: “I think we desperately need a popular uprising in the United States.” Piven also denounced the financial industry at a Sept. 29 rally in New York where, in a bizarre call-and-response speech, she told the crowd: “You’ve heard people say they’re greedy, and they are greedy. You’ve heard people say that they are thieves, and they are thieves. But they’re also cannibals, because they are eating their own.”

Any reasonably well-informed person who listens to Piven’s counter-factual assertions (e.g., that we have budget deficits “because big business and finance has stopped paying taxes”) need not wonder why so many allegedly smart young people have joined the “Occupy” movement. Piven is one of the nation’s most influential academics, past president of the American Sociological Association and a “Distinguished Professor of Sociology and Political Science” at the graduate school of the City University of New York. Professor Piven is not merely a teacher, but a teacher of teachers, whose former pupils are now themselves influential professors at many of the nation’s most prestigious institutions. And it is perfectly plausible to say that Professor Piven’s most illustrious student, dating back to the era when she taught at Columbia University, is the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Six decades after Bill Buckley warned of the academic elite’s collectivist drift in God and Man at Yale, we now behold the rotten fruit of that tree: An Ivy League graduate in the White House praising the inchoate rage of anti-capitalist mobs, a rage incited by the likes of Professor Piven at rallies that draw heavily from among the brightest students at our nation’s finest universities.

Whereas the anti-Semitic idiot interviewed by Schoffstall could be dismissed as a marginal kook whose views are not representative of the “Occupy Wall Street” movement as a whole, the same cannot be said of Professor Piven and the young protesters who enthusiastically echoed her words in Zuccotti Park. Those who declare that capitalists are “thieves ” and “cannibals” are proclaiming doctrines propagated by the academic left for more than half a century. Students haven’t been taught to understand capitalism, but rather to hate capitalism. Hating is easier than understanding, after all, and elite students nowadays are far more likely to be assigned the Marxist history of Howard Zinn than to be schooled in the economics of Ludwig von Mises, Friedrich Hayek, and Milton Friedman.

Hostility toward the free market is one of those hateful prejudices that, to borrow a phrase from Rodgers and Hammerstein, “you’ve got to be carefully taught.” Idiots on the fringes of the “Occupy” crowd who demonize Jews may ultimately be less dangerous than the allegedly well-educated young people who form the core of the mobs that vilify capitalism. And as Ronald Reagan once observed, “The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.”

This has been an increasingly common malady and frightening as well. Coulter hit the nail on the head in her book "Demonic" about mobs. The frightening thing is that without ANY reason involved- violence is right around the corner. Pure unbridled emotion can only lead to that. The educational system was lost decades ago- this is the product of said greivance mongers and rabble rousers. Community organizers love this dynamic. Logic plays no part and a point is coming when any reason will be futile. Keynesian theories and the agrieved classes equals viloent mobs in the end as the results of such are guaranteed failures and a scape goat must be found- as usual Jews and Christians are the preferred targets. Blacks used to vote Republican until JFK. They had good reason to vote Republican, given Lincoln, Reconstruction, the history of the Dems in the South. Eisenhower passed a Civil Rights Act in 1957, and the 1964 Civil Rights Act passed by a coalition of northern Dems and Republicans.
During the 1960 campaign JFK made a brilliant move by reaching out to Martin Luther King when he was jailed in Birmingham, while Nixon played it cautiously. Of course, LBJ and the Dems took all the credit for the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

However, one look at the state of the black family and black culture, employment levels, stalled education and income prospects - all of these freebies and weapons of resentment ultimately destroy family values, character, self reliance, self respect, spiritual aspirations and intellectual/emotional advancement.

This is why I believe liberalism only destroys - it promises, at best, the low-hanging fruit of instant gratification. But the cost has been devastating for blacks and whites alike; eventually liberalism simply means incredible wealth for the few and shared misery among those who are not politically connected.

Anyone who has participated in a "swearing in ceremony," like in a marriage ceremony, has no real memory of what they have said because their full focus is on meeting the requirement for correct and immediate repetition of what is said.

In fact, most people wouldn't even know what they have said until they have said it in a "call and response speech."

The process does not allow for listening, then thinking....it is simply indoctrination through repeat after me. So, there is no thought here - just moronic repetition.

This "call and response speech" technique is very odd to the individualist and comforting to the mass repeaters. Rather than giving the repeating crowd a share in the power of the speaker (which is the intention?), the speaker is elevated above all the repeaters because he gets to decide what they say. That's not equality.

Witness Frances Fox Piven's (click on the Youtube link in the article) initial discomfort with the process - she didn't let them repeat before she kept talking - to when she got into it and started filling out with the power she held by being the speaker.

Most of this is known to many of us and we have no illusions as to where they intend to take this example of lawlessness and how they are attempting to get there. Back in the day when we smart women were fighting for the right to line up on the starting line next to the menfolk without anchors tied to both feet, the same people used to mock us as "too homely to gettaman" (thus our desire to forego matrimony for a high-stakes career). For some reason I do not understand and never will, every woman who is successful in a field dominated by men is immediately called "homely" or "ugly" or worse. I do not recall ever jeering at the appearance of a successful man who has not married but prefers to devote his time to his career or calling, and I bet y'all don't eeither. So why do we have to make the automatic assumption that there is only one standard of beauty for women and anybody who doesn't meet it is "ugly" and therefore to be dismissed out of hand?

I have been asking this question for the past 45 years and have yet to get a coherent answer.

For most of my working career, I've had female bosses - particularly when I was in high-tech public relations, which was, at the time, dominated by females. I found that they fell across the usual spectrum of human behavior - some were terrible, some were wonderful; in PR, almost all of them were very bright. And, personally, I like working with women - both as a manager and as a direct report.

While of course all of us take a person's physical appearance - and gender - into account when we form overall opinions of them - and these factors play a role in how we interact with each other (we are human, after all) - I believe that what are important in a work environment (and everywhere else) are a person's competence and character. It's the mind that matters.

And, incidentally, I've noticed no shortage of attractive women in upper management whereever I've worked - and no, I'm not talking about women who would make likely candidates for Playboy. The way a person carries themselves is crucial to how attractive he or she is.

The best person for the job is the one who should get it - irrespective of race, creed, color or gender.

It's a multifaceted solution addressing many issues at once in its simplicity. I can remember another man with a bold plan that was simple "We win they lose!" and went about putting the policies in place to do just that. Herman Cain has that same sort of bold plan to solve big problems and end class warfare envy politicking as we know it.

9-9-9 encourages working poor to save which is typically the reason working poor are still WP after a decade of working. See immigrants who come with nothing and barely speak the language and live the American Dream through hard work, savings and make it.

The 9-9-9 plan encourages job growth, lowers cost for the employer which has direct correlation to pricing -good for the consumer. Also, gives people more money on their paychecks to spend/save.

If One gets $200.00 EXTRA a on their paycheck each week and the same bag of groceries One paid $200.00 for under 70,000 pages of tax code - One pays an extra $18.00 but still has $182.00 to put into savings that week or offset other taxable goods they might purchase that week. Many will see much more on their chacks that $200.00 and even the working poor will have more funds available each week.

When people are putting their money into savings accounts then banks don't need TARP bailouts the Federal Reserve printing money to supply them therefore devaluing savings accounts of the elderly and hurting the poor with inflation.

When perpetual working poor are saving they won't be perpetual working poor and they won't need government forcing banks to change time tested loan standards or F&F distorting the housing market creating bubbles.

9-9-9 takes away the catalyst for most if not all the divisive bickering ie envy politicking and class ware rhetoric as it treats everybody fairly, the same. The rich spend more because they can so they will pay their fair share.

9-9-9 allows Michael Moore or the frugal Warren Buffet to stimulate the economy and pay more taxes until their hearts content. True patriots! Moore can film a documentary of him and Buffet going around the country spending their money until they're blue in the face paying taxes. Moore can call his documentary "Warren and Me."

When we pass 9-9-9 pols will not be able to raise taxes because it will be easier for the opposition to explain how that “directly affects your life” to the consumer/voter. You’ll have a lot more people voting when you try raising their taxes. Good luck with that tax loving Democrats or even the "read my lips crowd" within the GOP establishment.

Herman Cain one simple plan addressing many problems directly at the roots and SOLVING THEM. Romney 59 of them just tweaking around the edges.

Millionaires like Romney and billionaires will be getting a tax break too and instead of hiding their money in the loopholes of 70,000+ pages of tax code, they will spend it and pay plenty of taxes. Why? How? - Because the so called “rich” spend more money by default.
