Civil unrest is President Barack Obama’s crutch, his comfort
zone, and his trump card. That’s why he has encouraged the “Occupy
Wall Street” protest and its progeny across the country, despite
significant political
dangers to him for
doing so. Closer looks at Obama’s career roots and at the
protesters’ behaviors help explain both why the protests are
worrisome developments and why the president actually likes
them.
First, it helps to understand just how radical most of
these protesters are — and just how obscene. Clearly, they are
mostly
socialist or communist in
orientation. And
reports are rampant about the lewdness, vileness, and
illegality that has marked the Wall Street “occupation” zone,
including plenteous drugs, public nudity and sex, and defecation on
police cars. A lot of this isn’t free speech; it’s open
law-breaking.
So why does Obama applaud it, when he repeatedly
castigated Tea Party demonstrators who lawfully secured permits,
usually behaved with remarkable decorum, and cleaned up after
themselves?
The answer is easy: This is Obama’s milieu. This is how he
was trained. As Ryan Lizza
explained in a definitive piece in the
New Republic — a liberal magazine, not a right-wing/anti-Obama
hit factory — Obama’s intellectual roots and career choices made
him a student of, and later actually an instructor in, the
particular mass-movement methods taught by the late, radical, Saul
Alinsky. The sort of unrest seen in the anti-Wall Street movement
comes directly out of Alinsky’s secular bible called Rules for
Radicals.
“The first step in community organization is community
disorganization,” wrote Alinsky. “The disruption of the present
organization is the first step toward community organization…. The
organizer dedicated to changing the life of a particular community
must first rub raw the resentments of the people of the community….
When those prominent in the status quo turn and label you an
‘agitator’ they are completely correct, for that is, on one word,
your function — to agitate to the point of conflict.”
Alinsky hardly was squeamish about using filth to get his
way. “If your organization is too tiny even for noise, stink up the
place.” Later, he gave a fictitious but oh-so-literal example of
one way to do it: He suggested that protesters gorge on beans
before occupying a public building so that their — uh, their
natural emissions — would literally create a stench. “In a fight
almost anything goes,” he wrote. “It almost reaches the point where
you stop to apologize if a chance blow lands above the
belt.” Alinsky openly and exuberantly belittled the notion of
ethics. All that mattered, he said, was whether your side is losing
or winning. Only afterwards do you try to find an excuse for your
illicit behavior: “The tenth rule of the ethics of means and ends
is that you do what you can with what you have and [then] clothe it
with moral garments.”
To be clear, nobody suggests Obama is personally
orchestrating the various “Occupy” demonstrations. Then again, he
doesn’t need to. The Occupiers are receiving financial help or
organizational muscle from many of his associates or major
supporters, including several union bosses of the
sort who just weeks ago pledged to “take these [SOBs] out” of
commission. Despite Obama’s eloquent words earlier this year
demanding milder rhetoric and more carefully calibrated political
actions, he has not uttered a peep in admonishment of the
increasingly virulent language, not to mention lawless
actions such as attempting to physically “take over” public
buildings.
Critics have noted that the protesters often can’t even
define what they are protesting, or that their “issues” are such a
diverse hodgepodge as to be unintelligible. Again, this is straight
from Alinsky’s playbook. The organizer, he wrote, “should search
for and use the wrong reasons to achieve the right goals. He should
be able, with skill and calculation, to use irrationality in his
attempts to progress to a rational world. For a variety of reasons
the organizer must develop multiple issues…. Multiple issues mean
constant action and life.”
What Obama particularly likes about this disruptive
movement is that its only universally acknowledged target is the
one he himself provided: Wall Street. He’s the one who repeatedly
gave the marching order against corporate bogeymen. As Alinsky
wrote in his most famous rule of all: “Pick the target, freeze it,
personalize it, and polarize it.” This is exactly what Obama
himself tried to do as a community organizer in Chicago. It is what
he has done every step of the way as campaigner and as president,
always finding someone to blame or be against: George W. Bush,
greedy corporations, millionaires, Republican congressmen, or
people who “cling to guns or religion.”
The problem with Saul Alinsky — and for the protesters
who still, knowingly or unknowingly, do his work — was that
nothing was sacred. Rules for Radicals is, in Alinsky’s
own words, officially dedicated to “the first radical known to man
who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively
that he at least won his own kingdom — Lucifer.”
Alinsky seemed to mean the dedication to be funny. But
it’s no laughing matter, and neither are protests that violate
common decency.

You forgot the most important point.
One thing that Saul Alinsky and Obama and the OWS supplicants have in common is that they hate the Constitution and the rule of law.
The rule of law prevents them from the outright seizure of wealth. Instead they work for the redistribution of wealth.
tsd| 10.21.11 @ 9:53AM
And why is it that the ones that want to take from others never want to give they're own?? Thief's are thief's, out right seizure or redistribution... are just a play on words by our current liberals.
Alan Brooks| 10.21.11 @ 11:49AM
Hillyer is a liar: he is exaggerating the negatives. Plus, the OWS protesters are anarcho-syndicalist, not socialist/communist.
Alan Brooks| 10.21.11 @ 11:51AM
What would be good is if OWS protesters ruin the GOP convention in Florida next summer- to spare us another McCain.
JimP| 10.21.11 @ 12:31PM
"Anarcho-syndicalist"? LOL. You are playing word games, Alan. Socialism= anarachy and communism= the syndicate that forms to bring order to the anarchy brought about by socialism. Thus, it's all the same.

At any rate, I hope protesters spoil next summer's GOP convention.
JimP| 10.21.11 @ 1:03PM
I hope they "spoil" it too, because by protesting a la the NYC/Wall Street protests they will be creating more GOP voters and making more Tea Party converts, just like the '68 protestors did at Chicago and around the rest of the nation with their protests.

Why must people always breakout their super secret decoder rings to determine what your points/complaints really are? And why are YOU frustrated, Alan: "Geez"?
Of course I am happy that Obama is fulfilling Rush's hopes [of failure], but I wasn't complaining, I was celebrating the OWS crowd's masterful achievement of alienating even more people, faster than Obama himself has been doing. Bravo to them.

Welcome to the party Mr Hillyer, this has been evident, for anyone willing to look, since before he was elected.
This administration is filled with Alinsky disciples engaged in a very well orchestrated and coordinated plan to circumvent and undermine the Constitution.
Think 'Fast and Furious'. Wasn't it around the time that fiasco was being implemented, that the President and Secretary of State Clinton (ardent student of Alinsky) were spewing forth that 90% of the guns in Mexico were coming from the USA? A classic Alinsky ploy and frankly, the only explanation that makes sense when considering the illegality and unconstitutional aspects of this operation. What's the old Alinsky saw "By any means necessary"?
Now we have OWS being coordinated with the unions, Holder's DOJ providing cover for the NBP, Soro's Tides foundation and the Center for American Progress funding and pumping propaganda.
It's coming to a head, and it's not going to end well.

These are all just parts of The Big Lie, that is Barack Hussein Obama/Barry Soetoro/Abu Hussain. When your Life is Sealed in a Vault, you can pretty much, make it up as you go along.
Nope. Old Barry only knows how to do One Thing: Agitate. Disrupt. Intimidate, and Threaten.
Okay. 4 Things.
He actually did teach a Class, but, it was in SAUL ALINSKY. He taught a Saul Alinsky "Workshop" for his ACAORN students. He taught the Wit and Wisdom of a book, with a shout out, on its Jacket, for the "World's first Community Organizer: LUCIFER". That's who our Boy is.
Who has he been talking to, on his Canadian built Bus Tours? He's been talking to YOUNG PEOPLE, at Colleges and Universities. And, what has he been talking about, in between Vacations and Fund Raisers, with Bankers, the Rich, and Millionaires and Billionaires? He's been talking about Evil Bankers. The Evil Rich. And all those Evil Millionaires and Billionaires. He's been riling them up. He's been "Agitate".
Who were the first folks on the scene? Young College Students, with Student Loans, carrying signs about the Bankers, the Rich, and the Millionaires and Billionaires. "Disrupt".
Who showed up, next? Richard Trumpka, and Obama's Army of AFL-CIO Thugs. Richard Trumpka, who bragged that he goes to the white House, at least 3 times a week, and that he gets a Phone Call from THE ONE, almost Every Day. "Intimidate".
Moveon.org is involved. CODE PINK is involved. ACORN. SEIU. "Threaten".
Whaddya know? Barry's got the Band back together.
There's NOTHING spontaneous about this. Nothing: Grass Roots. This is the DEFINITION of AstroTurf. Every Leftist DEMIGOD has done the same thing, from LENIN to CHAVEZ to this THING, in the White House, with 3 Names.
I hope these Democrats hook their wagons to these Scumbags for the whole trip.

A very clever diatribe. Only one problem: It doesn't reflect reality. Also, it shows the author's lack of empathy for the demonstrators who are representing a broad swath a Americans who have been hurt during this economy---ultra-conservatives seem to have forgotten: There are about 20 million citizens unemployed (they can't all be faking it).

My reply button isn't working. Yes, there are many there legitimately, but why Wallstreet? Pennisylvania Ave would be a better place to protest. Also, I find it hard to feel sorry for someone who has a $5000 laptop. Or one who complains of a homeless person collecting money from people attending. And yet they are quick to try to cover up a rape, or manage it on their own, so that person is free to do it again. How many other "criminals" are there just to take advantage of the "utopians" gathered at one place? Yes, they have some legitimate gripes, but leaving behind trash and filth, hindering others from their jobs, etc is not endearing them to most of Americans. I believe many there are there just to reek havoc and anarchy, to trash, destroy because that's all they know. Too bad public schools and universities don't evaluate and teach how this behavior has destroyed other countries instead of trashing this one.

Rules for Radicals will also be Obama's undoing. Rule 11 states "The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative."
Obama has no constructive alternative, even though that's what he was elected for. This is why Alinsky only plays lip service to "What Would You Do Different?" It's not about solution, it is about destruction. The last thing the car-chasing Alinsky dog wanted was to catch the car. Because now YOU become the power structure and others will organize against you (as in Tea Party). The only way to avoid that is to ban organizing by force. Which is why Alinsky and his followers are nothing different than all other revolutionaries in history who seized power and closed the door behind them with the iron fist of tyranny.
Anthony| 10.21.11 @ 12:36PM
A good point George. The Alinsky maxim follows the more basic construct of "you break it, you own it", one of Colin Powell's favorites.
Hmmm, I wonder what Obozo supporter numero uno, General Powell, has to say about his wonderkind president now?
Wayne| 10.22.11 @ 8:22AM
Powell is part of it. He is one of the elite that helped put him in that position. He only gets mad at Obama if Obama fails.

As a Boomer I find the present protests quite fun to watch. A bunch of screwball losers and commie plants making fools of themselves and alienating the great "silent majority" of America. These protests are even more doomed than the 60's protests were. Nixon+Wallace clobbered the Dems in '68 after the great Chicago convention riot and then in '72 the Dems had their first anti-war socialist candidate-McGovern. Nixon won 49 states in '72. The 60's protests were led by the "anarcho-syndicalist" aka: socialist-communist radicals, but the galvanizing matter for the huge Boomer generation was avoiding being drafted to go to Vietnam. It was the draft that made the protesting attractive to the majority of kids in the streets back then. As soon as Nixon ended the draft, the protests evaporated. Now there is no draft or war for the young to worry about. They want a job to buy all the 'crass' commercial stuff made by Apple etc because their parents are broke or unemployed and who wants to live with their parents anyway. The young and the rest of the "silent majority" will be voting GOP next year- is my humble prediction. So let the hippies riot, watch the COPS respond, crush a few skulls and make beaucoup arrests, and enjoy it all fellow Americans on your HD widescreen. Pass the popcorn.
Wayne| 10.22.11 @ 8:21AM
You make good points. I can attest that it was the draft that drove the protests. That and the death of 59,000 soldiers in a useless war. By '71 troops were getting early outs. I got out 6 months early. This current group of protesters lack the passion and the conviction of tea partiers. Lets face it, its an opportunity for sex and cheap drugs.

REPORT FROM OCCUPIED PGH
Walking to my meeting this morning at 11:00 AM I walked through Mellon Park in Pgh where the occupiers are occupying.
There are a number of small tents that were all closed, and a few big tents that had donuts, coffee, and water. The young lady offered me a donut but I declined and thanked her. It seems the occupation has helped the Dunkin Donuts across the street. There were garbage bags throughout, hay on top of the grass, and plywood in the walking grass areas and in front of the tents.
Lots of homemade signs on cardboard such as "Private profits but Socialized Losses." Hard to disagree with that. And "Universal Health Care," "Single Payer Plan,"and "Trickledown poverty." Nothing very imaginative.
Considering it has been raining all week, the place was relatively clean and orderly.
On my way back they were all out of their tents and in front of the old USSteel Bldg chanting "Univeral Health Care," with very little enthusiasm, no harmony, and hard to say if it had any effect.
Less than 100 people.
Everybody walking except me ignored them.
David T| 10.21.11 @ 2:05PM
On the contrary, W, it's very easy to disagree with "private profits but socialized losses." Look at Fannie and Freddie, who are a huge reason for the economic mess we're in. Whenever risk is "socialized," the risk taker will ignore market signals because he knows the taxpayer will absorb his losses. Essentially, he's playing with other people's money.
W| 10.21.11 @ 2:27PM
David,
I agree with you, I wasn't clear. The occupiers are against the taxpayers paying the lossess of Goldman Sachs, Solyndra, GM, etc. when those companies and individuals keep the profits and we pay the lossess.

Quin's accurate discription of Obama is only a tad too PC. IMHO, not only did Obama subversively instigate this mass protest with his previous wording of MILLIONAIRES & BILLIONAIRES, FAT CAT BANKERS etc; but he is expressing solidarity with same now in order to further his class warfare political propaganda. The sad sad part of all of this is that the young college students [who SHOULD but do not have the common sense and intelligence to see through his BS] are those buying into his political garbage. The man is simply the biggest fraud the world has ever seen. It's one thing to come out of nowhere with no history and proclamate his lies, but after three years of witnessing same, no one except total morons should now be unaware of the barnyard nature of his words/actions!!!!!!!
Wayne| 10.22.11 @ 8:14AM
The irony is that these are the people he had in mind for his national police force. If goaded, they would be at your throats telling you to eat shit if the Comrade in chief even made a faint suggestion.
Margie| 10.21.11 @ 3:13PM
Alec Baldwin's in on it again.
Alec Baldwin joins Occupy Wall Street to tell protesters 'capitalism is worthwhile' (but could it be anything to do with his ad campaign for Capital One bank?):

Well, if the protesters had a brain, they'd be protesting at 1600 Penn. Ave. That's were Bush and Rubin wrote up the bailouts for Millionaires Billionaires and both parties participated.
The second thing to protest is the university you attended Who encouraged you to take out massive loans for overpriced degrees. Why the socialists at the very same university. And you know what, you can't discharge your obligations using bankruptcy. So you are stuck; basically an indentured servant to your university.
Oldefarte| 10.21.11 @ 4:21PM
PM: Although I agree that the original TARP stunk worse than a skunk; unfortionately it was at the time entirely necessary. Without a bailout of the banks [only] as the ORIGINAL TARP was conceived, every bank in this country would have failed [closed its doors] and same would have adversely effected each/every depositor [ie you and me]. The problem was that after 1/1/09 when the Obama Administration took over, they reconstituted TARP to bail out GM and Crysler solely due to the loss of labor union jobs that would have been lost if these auto manufacturers had failed. The difference between the original and the final TARP was that the former was essential for the economic/financial benefit of this nation's economy and for each/every citizen with a bank/savings/CD account; whereas the latter only benefits Obama's/Democrats' political friends/financial supporters THE LABOR UNIONS [which if they had failed would have only hurt Detroit and the domestic automotive industry, and no one else]!!!!!
SpiralArchitect| 10.21.11 @ 7:20PM
Thanks 'farte.
As I tirelessly try expressing the same thoughts on the bailouts it still manages to tire me so.
Preconceived notions are so hard to change, none the less replace - especially with the truth (ie:facts).

Alinsky clearly studied and admired Pol Pot, creator of Year Zero and the following mass-murders. Pol Pot was in the same college in France as Hitler's Swiss banker, Francois Genoud.

I literally cry for this country. And, finally someone is talking about what happened to common decency, manners, please and thank you, good grooming, a kind word and a soft voice. The debasement and decline of our social standards has been stunning. Whenever I watch an old movie on Turner Classics I always think of a time when Americans dressed and were polite; when multiculturalism (where loyalties to our great nation are not even required) did not rule the day; when people were proud of their country and taught their children the same. In 2000 I went to Germany on a seven (7) day tour. I could always pick out the Americans. There was a glow and animation in their faces -smiling and laughing, kindness and inquisitiveness. In short, there has always been an American spirit. Europeans, on the other hand, seemed dour and lack-luster. I guess that's what saddens me the most - Americans are losing their spirit. And once the spirit is broken people no longer have the energy to fight. Witness the Republicans, who for the most part have either remained silent about this so-called “movement” or have actually said that they understand it. Are they just to dispirited to denounce these radicals in the most pronounced way? Are they just too tired to fight the on slot of what names they’ll be called for having dared to speak the truth about the debauchery? It seems Republicans have a slam dunk here. Will they be brave enough to see it? I have always been optimistic about this country, but I'm afraid, my spirit is broken, as well.
davelnaf| 10.21.11 @ 9:46PM
Are mainstream dems still supporting Obama because of the damage he can still do to the Democratic Party if they try to dump him? Or, have they mentally bifurcated Obama into (1. a leftwing, but still in their eyes somewhat mainstream, president that they want to support, but don’t exactly believe in and (2. a very radical president well outside the mainstream that they chose to ignore?
If dems turn on O they know that they lose a lot of their block voters. If they don’t turn on him they will likely go down with him next year in the biggest political conflagration ever. But they continue to put on this public veneer of business as usual and of not being all that worried about O. They forget that they did something like a lite version of this during most of 2010.
Wayne| 10.22.11 @ 8:12AM
Too late for the Dems. They have double-downed on stupid. Obama is a one-trick pony and is the rock-thrower thrust by buffoons into the presidency. He will bring down the party. He may seek refuge in Switzerland after the Defeat of 2012. I assure you the power players in the Democratic Party will not want to see him around.
Don Woods | 10.21.11 @ 9:56PM
Claudia, don't be too depressed. You are probably too young to remember Carter. He had the whole of the US in a funk. I had a neighbor who had always flown the flag - he stopped. Hopefully, after Obama the spirit will return. People had given up on patriotism and Regan brought it back. Conservatives MUST get behind the Republican candidate whoever that is. We must get our country back from these anti-Americans.
Claudia| 10.21.11 @ 11:55PM
Thanks, Don - for saying I'm probably too young to remember Carter, that is. Yes, I remember the malaise. But here's what I feel the difference is: Our very institutions are different now so that no one can become a Bill Gates or Steve Jobs; the courts are stacked; Obamacare is a runaway train and I'm not sure that it can be stopped. With the Supreme Court only taking up the individual mandate provision what is to stop the rest of this monstrosity from taking place? Just today, Walmart is either dropping health care for their part-time workers or raising the premiums on the rest. My health insurance, which I had to fight for as an individual, has gone up $100 a month, even though my health has remained the same - excellent. Couple that with the loss of decency and a news media that actually protects the culprits and I just don't see our way of life ever returning to the glory days. Immigrants have little loyalty to our country. Elected officials are afraid of their own shadows and our schools are propaganda machines. I remain hopeful, but I'm afraid America has seen her best days. I stand by that but hope that the Republican presidential nominee can prove me wrong. Romney, I'm afraid is just not inspirational enough.
