HAGERSTOWN, Maryland — Hickory trees were blazing brilliant
gold in the forest surrounding my home on the western slope of
South Mountain as I stepped outside Thursday afternoon to take a
call on my cellphone from a well-informed source. My enjoyment of
the autumn scenery was diminished only slightly by the cool drizzly
overcast weather, but much more by the shadows of gloom gathering
over the 2012 Republican presidential campaign, which was the
reason for the phone call.
After listening with great interest, I walked inside to
the dining room table, picked up a pen and asked my source to
repeat the information which I scrawled into a notebook: “Rubio
[chief] of staff — CESAR — used to be w/ Romney’s campaign … used
his contacts to push primary to 31st because they want Romney in.”
A couple more phone calls to D.C. and Florida, a few minutes of
online research, and I had an exclusive: “Top
Rubio Staffer Reportedly Pushed for Early Florida Primary to Help
Romney.” Perhaps not the kind of story Matt Drudge would
consider worthy of a banner headline, but a key piece of the puzzle
surrounding events that have hopelessly scrambled the 2012
schedule.
What my tipster explained was that Cesar Conda,
influential chief of staff for Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, had been a
key force behind the scenes urging Florida Republican officials to
move their state’s primary — which should have taken place in
March, according to the schedule approved by the Republican
National Committee — to Jan. 31. Florida’s fateful
decision Sept. 30 set in motion a chain of events which, as
matters now stand, could result in New Hampshire holding its
first-in-the-nation primary as early as December 6, less than two
months from now. Although Florida had long threatened to break the
RNC-imposed rule protecting the four states (Iowa, New Hampshire,
Nevada and South Carolina) that traditionally hold early nominating
contests, the timing of Florida’s final decision — immediately
after Herman Cain won a
Sept. 24 straw-poll in Orlando — aroused deep suspicions from
conservatives.
Conda is well
known as a supporter of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney,
who has led the GOP 2012 field for most of the past year. On the
day two weeks ago when a Republican-controlled special committee in
Tallahassee set Florida’s Jan. 31 primary date, Texas Gov. Rick
Perry was still leading the
Real Clear Politics poll average with 26.5 percent to Romney’s
23 percent. However, Romney was regaining lost ground, as Perry’s
support collapsed in the wake of his embarrassing performances in
three September debates. It appeared that Romney, with vastly
superior fund-raising potential and a top-quality campaign
organization, was clearly once more a pre-emptive favorite to win
the nomination, and Florida’s move would help maximize Romney’s
advantage. Or at least that was the conventional wisdom of pundits
and Republican insiders, especially because a front-loaded primary
schedule would make it more difficult for New Jersey Gov. Chris
Christie to make a late entry into the field. Five days after
Florida announced its primary would be Jan. 31,
Christie said his final “no.” By the time Christie made his
inevitable endorsement of Romney, major GOP funders like
Georgette Mosbacher were already aboard the Romney
bandwagon.
For Rubio’s chief of staff — formerly an aide to Dick
Cheney and a top D.C. lobbyist — to be a Romney supporter is
scarcely surprising, nor was I particularly shocked when my source
said Conda had been encouraging Florida to jump ahead in the 2012
schedule. The early-primary madness gripping Florida Republicans
has been well-nigh universal for months. A lone voice of sanity
warning against the move to January seems to have been the state’s
RNC committeeman, Paul Senft, who
chastised Florida officials with a reminder,
“Republicans have always been law abiding people who
obey the rules.” True, but Republicans are also creatures of habit,
and few habits have become more predictable than the GOP’s “It’s
His Turn” principle of choosing presidential nominees. Romney was
the chief rival to Sen. John McCain in the 2008 primaries and has
been building his 2012 campaign ever since. By long-standing
Republican tradition, it’s Mitt’s turn, and no one should be
surprised that the organized forces of the party establishment
(evidently including Cesar Conda) are doing
everything in their power to deliver the
nomination to him.
So far, so good for the conventional wisdom which would
have us believe that Romney is inevitable as the Republican 2012
standard-bearer. Even conservatives determined to resist Romney’s
nomination — many of whom are still holding out hope that Perry
can somehow regain his footing — seem to be trying to convince
themselves that Romney wouldn’t be so bad. Why, however, did my
item yesterday about Cesar Conda and the Florida primary provoke
such a phenomenal reaction, getting re-Tweeted more than 200 times
in the span of a few hours? Why did
Michelle Malkin react, “Damn, I hate politics”? Because
the Conda story seemed to implicate Marco Rubio in the insider
maneuverings to coronate Romney, and Rubio was one of the greatest
heroes of the Tea Party uprising. Indeed, if the GOP Establishment
had gotten its way, Rubio would not today be one of the most
promising young Republicans in the Senate.
In May 2009, Florida’s GOP chairman Jim Greer endorsed
Gov. Charlie Crist in the 2010 Senate race, more than 15 months
before the primary. National Republican Senatorial Committee
chairman Sen. John Cornyn of Texas also
endorsed Crist, who was then leading Rubio by more
than 30 points in the polls. Greer and Cornyn were both acting on
the conventional wisdom that Crist, with statewide name recognition
and proven fund-raising abilities, would be the safe bet to hold
the seat being vacated by the retirement of Republican Sen. Mel
Martinez. Outraged by this attempt to anoint Crist — who had
endorsed President Obama’s deficit-spending stimulus program —
conservatives
rallied behind Rubio. Within a year, as the Tea
Party movement boosted Rubio to a commanding lead in the primary
polls, Crist
quit the GOP and launched a doomed third-party
bid. (Greer resigned in disgrace and is now awaiting trial on
corruption charges.)
Just as the Republican elite’s attempt to anoint Crist
backfired, sparking a Tea Party uprising that carried Rubio to the
Senate, there may be a possibility that the behind-the-scenes
effort to anoint Romney could ignite a grassroots movement to unite
conservatives behind Herman Cain’s surging candidacy. The strength
of Cain’s surge may have been underestimated in the conventional
wisdom of late September, when Florida Republicans made the
decision that scrambled the campaign schedule. And the Atlanta
businessman got an unexpected boost on Oct. 5 when former Alaska
Gov. Sarah Palin announced she would not be a candidate in 2012.
Many of her most fervent supporters had waited for months hoping
she’d jump in the race and, when
she finally said
“no,” Palin singled out
Cain for praise in an interview on Greta Van Susteren’s Fox News
program. Whether Palin’s supporters took this as a signal or
whether they naturally gravitated to Cain’s populist “outsider”
appeal, the effect is noticeable: Cain’s
RCP poll average on Oct. 4 was 13.7 percent, but
in the four national polls taken since Palin announced her decision
not to run, Cain’s average is 26.3 percent. In the latest
Rasmussen survey, Cain is tied with Romney, with
Perry fading to single digits in fourth place behind Newt
Gingrich.
The GOP Establishment’s alignment behind Romney has produced a
Newtonian counter-reaction, and the voices of Establishment
spokesmen deriding Cain’s chances of winning are likely to solidify
Tea Party support behind the Atlanta businessman. Last night, Karl
Rove (a pundit especially loathed by Palin’s fans) told Sean
Hannity that he
doubts Cain can sustain his current momentum,
saying Cain was “coming up short” and predicting his campaign is
“not gonna have a nice ending.”
Of course, Rove never predicted Cain’s October surge, and how
this year’s Republican campaign will end is probably beyond
anyone’s power to predict, when no one yet knows whether the New
Hampshire primary will be in December or January. The odds favor
Romney, but the odds have always favored Romney. For the past three
weeks, events have seemed to be accelerating toward some kind of
apocalyptic climax, the outcome obscured by ominous clouds of
uncertainty. For now, there is only the campaign trail ahead, which
will bring the candidates together Tuesday in
Las Vegas for a CNN debate in which Cain will
defend his newfound contender status against his Republican rivals.
Autumn leaves are falling, and the days are rapidly running down
toward the time when at last the predictions of polls and pundits
will be less important than the decisions of actual voters.

Look. This is simple. Ya know how everyone's always saying that, "You can't just run AGAINST someone. You have to be FOR something."?
Ladies and Gentlemen. Allow me to introduce the Exception to the Rule. Barack Hussein Obama.
If there was ever, a Clay Pigeon, just begging to be taken out? It's His Majesty, the guy with the "Blacks Only" Justice Department.
Tell me something he's done right. ANYTHING!
Now, tell me what he's done wrong.
Simple, right? Of course it is, IF you're willing to do, what needs to be done.
Our Nominee needs to be FEARLESS. Our Nominee must be prepared to GO AFTER Der Fuhrer, with Both Barrels. The Country needs to be REMINDED of all the Golf Outings, and Parties at the White House, while the people in the Gulf, watched their livelihoods disappear, underneath a sheen of Oil. They need to be REMINDED of all the Vacations. The Jaunts to Ireland, and to England, to drink Beer and $1000 Wine, in a Toast to Shared Sacrifice.
They need to be REMINDED of the illegal Drilling Moratoriums, and the Jobs they destroyed. REMINDED of the attacks against the Coal Industry, and the Natural Gas Industry, and the Canadian Pipeline Deal, and the Hundreds of Thousands of Jobs, that have been ABORTED.
They need to be REMINDED of his associations with Frank Marshall Davis and Jeremiah Wright and Louis Farrakhan and Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn and Khalid Rashidi and the Black Panthers.
They need to be INFORMED of his complicity in the Deaths of Hundreds, if not Thousands, of Mexicans, killed by the Weapons that HE bought, and HE had taken over the Border and given to the Dug Cartels, so that HE could use their murders, to push for more Gun Control.
Only Herman Cain, can do all that. None of the others will DARE to do these things. They're too afraid of the "R" Word. And, if they're afraid of THAT? What else are they afraid of?
The Rich Kid (Romney) doesn't have the BALLS, to do what needs to be done.
And, the "MORMON" thing?
They will hang that around his neck like an ANVIL. And, it WILL cost us the Election.
Believe it!

I was one of those who sent in a few bucks to Rubio. (I almost made it all back by saving the 44 cent stamps that followed in a slew of additional fundraising solicitations.)
Timothy Pennell may capitalize too much in his comment BUT he is right. But right isn't reality. Let's back Herman Cain with talk and money - he's real.
Then let's think about Rubio more carefully.
Hank| 10.14.11 @ 8:37AM
Not stated in the article was the fact the O'Reilly came out last night and predicted that Cain could not win against Obummer. The elites are scared of Cain and the Tea Party! We have been quiet to long, it's time to get organized again and take this country back!!
Jack in Wi.| 10.14.11 @ 12:31PM
Romney and Cain are both Mr. TARP, Mr. Endless War for Israel, Mr Bailouts for the Rich, Mr. Federal Reserve, and both have flip flopped on everything at least once. Romney also has Romneycare tied around his neck. The only man with the money and following to stop Romney and all his countryclub and media backing is Ron Paul. He has the most on ground supporters and the most money left of anyone but Perry. Perry seems to have imploded and Cain is not far behind. His 999 plan is laughable. His naming Alan [ big bubbles ]Greenspan as his favorite Fed chairman show where his true loyalties lie.
Ron Paul has just issued the finest prolife commericial, [ in 30 years of prolife work] I have ever seen put out by an American politician. It will be shown all over New Hampshire, Iowa, South Carolina and Nevada. All you prolife people should see it on U tube.
In Wednesday's Reuters poll Ron Paul is in 3rd place behind Romney and Cain. Romney 23%, Cain 19% and Ron Paul 13%. I remind you of all the people who been put up to by the elites to be our leader. Trump, Bachman, Perry, Christie, Ryan, Barbour, and now Cain have all been floated and found wanting.
Ron Paul is the only candidate that can get the necessary, independent and conservative Democrat vote. Romney is disliked by 2/3 of the Party. It is Ron Paul or ruin. I predicted long ago on this site that Ron Paul will win or come close in Iowa and New Hampshire. I stand behind that prediction right now. The wars, bailouts and the Fed are as popular as cancer in those states. I don't think this country should have a guy like Romney who was total flop in the only elected job he ever held, as a governor running the country.

I think Cain can beat Obama -- if he gets the "Old Hands" behind him with money and handlers to coach on foreign policy, avoid gotchas, etc. That's just politics.
The Republican Establishment wants Romney, because they're just as much behind all the loopholes in the tax code, and profits off of government contracts, as Establishment Democrats.
NEITHER Establishment wants to see the system they've been profiting from, at the expense of the country -- the BIG SPENDING GOVERNMENT -- get cut down to size. Only we do.
So following the Buckley Rule, "Nominate the most conservative candidate WHO CAN WIN" -- that's HERMAN CAIN.
Jack in Wi.| 10.14.11 @ 6:38PM
In the Harris poll of a couple of weeks ago Ron Paul beats Obama 51% to 49%. Ron has been tied or close to tied with Obama in several other national polls. Herman Cain and his 999 plan is dead on arival. No Republican can even get the the Republican vote by pushing a 9% national sales tax, while we still have the income tax. The Democrats would destroy him worse then his Republican opponents did in the last debate. Herman loves Alan Greenspan, TARP, and endless war, plus a tax plan cooked up by one of his buddies for the Federal Reserve. He lied outright about his wanting an audit of the Federal Reserve. Talk about a manufactured, by the media, candidate put in the race to divide the real conservative vote.
Now that Herman has shown his true colors. I predict Newt Gingrich will get his time in the sun. At least he knows enough to attack the Federal Reserve in sound terms. He knows where the country is on taxes and bailouts. It's too bad Newt is such a moral slug. He could of been a contender.

Herman is symtom of the problem the elites have Margie. He was puffed up in Florida to get rid of Rick Perry. Perry was supposed to win that straw poll. The elites covered the 175 dollars it cost to compete in that poll to puff Cain as a way to divide the conservative vote. Perry was supposed to perform much better then he did. So the elites used Herman as the messenger boy. The trouble is that Herman was liked by a lot of people who hated Romney and has taken off to some extent. Herman showed his incompetence in the last debate. He was awful. Santorum, Gingrich, Bachman, Huntsman, and most of all Ron Paul destroyed him. He has little money, little organization, and is unable to defend his crackpot tax plan. The Democrats would destroy him. In any general election There would be massive defections from the Republicans to third parties or stay at home. I expect Herman to withdraw before the primaries and endorse Romney. They agree on everything, and are soft on abortion as well. No way in hell would I vote for either of them. I voted for the Republican nominee in the last 11 elections. Most of those votes were wasted.

From an article written by Dr. Jack Wheeler at To The Point News. He used to work for the CIA and was part of the Reagan Adminstration.
tothepointnews.com
"The next GOP presidential candidate debate is four days from now, Tuesday, October 18, in Vegas on CNN. It will focus primarily albeit not exclusively on foreign policy.
I've been asked by friends of a particular candidate to provide him with a private briefing on the most critical foreign policy issues America faces. What follows is not the usual HFR but a condensed summary of that briefing, which contains much of my Map of the Future talk at Rendezvous XI last weekend."
The American Economy and Foreign Policy. A strong America obviously requires a strong and flourishing economy. This can only be achieved by getting the government out of the way of it.
This cannot be done by a smooth-talking sophist who believes in Warmism (thus renewable energy crony capitalist scams), and whose health care program served as the model for the abomination of Obamacare.
This cannot be done by a Johnny One Note who can only talk about his tax reform plan that will take years to implement (if ever), and thus will do absolutely nothing to immediately revive the economy and create massive job growth.
This cannot be done by anyone pretending his business experience can be applied to running a government. Governments and their bureaucracies are the opposite of a for-profit business and cannot be run on business principles. Governments, the federal government in particular, can only be run on Constitutional principles, which means eliminating all federal activities, programs, agencies, and departments not enumeratedly authorized by the Constitution. (Not all at once but in an orderly manner - Rome wasn't torn down in a day.)
This can be done only by someone with successful executive government experience who is committed to those Constitutional restrictions, most particularly those embodied in the 10th Amendment.
I wish that person well in the debate next Tuesday and in the months of campaigning to come. The 2012 GOP nomination campaign will be a test of endurance. It will not and mathematically cannot be won quickly.
30 states hold their GOP primaries before April, which are by new RNC rules proportional. A candidate who wins a majority or plurality of votes in these primaries only gets his proportion of the delegates - it's not winner-take-all. 55% of the votes, say, gets you 55% of the delegates, no more.
Further, because they are in violation of RNC rules for insisting on ridiculously early primaries, New Hampshire, Nevada, South Carolina, Florida, Arizona, and Michigan will be penalized with a loss of half of their delegates. Iowa is a non-binding caucus so it's just a pr show.
The race will not be won until deep into April - and thus will be won by the best funded, best organized, and most determined never-give-up persistent candidate. For America's sake, let that candidate be also the most Constitutionally principled.

You are avery perceptive person and have an amazing stream of thoughts. It is like surfing a wave. Just wanted you to know that.
Would also like to add...have you noticed that within the first twelve hours of release of the polls that put Cain out in front of Mitt, a hurricane of negativity, smear, distortion, and attack started with all fury from the AP news wires all the way to the O'Reilly factor.
The Paulbots below have come out of their holes as well. These people are truly demented. They will stop at nothing to smear, lie, cheat, rant, and attack every candidate to promote their lover boy even if it means increasing the chances and position of Obama for reelection. They will sit at home and let it happen if their lover boy is not nominated. You can count on it.

Let's see if I have this right. Romney's campaign says that we should keep the Mormon thing out of the equation - otherwise we are bigots. Then Romney conspires with the Mormon states (Utah and Nevada) to cheat the party rules by moving their primaries forward to help anoint Romney as the GOP's candidate. I think that stinks. Romney needs to go down.
Racer99| 10.14.11 @ 3:48PM
I live in Utah, I am not a Mormon, and I have heard nothing of Utah moving it's date up.
Also for those Christians that fell Romney is not a REAL Cristian I would like to state you are listening to the whisperings of The Adversary. Christ makes that decision, not the purveyors of religious bigotry. It is the Fallen One who wants to prevent the unification of Christians, why are you helping? I know who Romney is, I know what he is, and he would be a fine president.
By the way I am a re-born christian and a Cain supporter. I much prefer Cain because he is NOT a politician, he is a true citizen leader and would make a superb POTUS. Cain/Gingrich all the way.

In May 2009 I had the following e-mail exhange with the folks over at the Club for Growth:
My E-mail:
I just joined this site today and was about to donate to you when I noticed your endorsement of Marco Rubio (FL).
I was astonished, in as much as Rubio is exactly the reason I came to this site, to seek opposition to him as a candidate for the US Senate.
I will refer you to an April 17, 2008 article in the Miami Herald titled Dade Lawmakers Stymie Bills, under the category: Immigration.
In short, Mr. Rubio conspired (successfully) with Miami-Dade lawmakers to stifle debate over illegal immigration proposals in the house.
I was outraged then, and am more so now. I will not donate a single penny to your PAC. I am flabbergasted by your support of Rubio who puts Cubans first and foremost.
I have lived in Miami-Dade for over 30 years and have watched the Cuban/Hispanic community take over, fill elected positions with their own and legislate, not on behalf of Republicans, but on behalf of Cubans and Hispanics.
South Florida lawmakers, mostly Hispanic, have consistently put the interests of illegal aliens over those of the citizens of the state. It is beyond comprehension that you would endorse such a candidate.
My worst fears are confirmed; the Republican party is doomed. The GOP has been hanging onto me by a thread, and this may be the last straw.
Just plain sickening!!!
Their Response:
If it's any consolation, our thoughts on the FL-Sen race is more about opposing Crist than supporting Rubio. And regarding that race, I believe Crist is just as bad on immigration as Rubio so when comparing the two, Rubio is clearly the better candidate.
Regards,
Andy Roth
VP of Government Affairs
Club for Growth
My Retort:
You make a terrible argument. Yes, Rubio may be the lesser of two evils, but there are other candidates out there. Why settle for Rubio? I want to see opposition to Christ but not from Rubio, there are other Republicans in the state. In fact, there are Republicans in the state that actually support the party platform better than Rubio.
Again, I vehemently disagree with the Club's endorsement and wish you would reconsider. As I stated, this is exactly the problem with the GOP, agents within the party actively working against it. We cannot afford to continue to support candidates like Rubio if we ever hope to emerge with a clear agenda.
______
And so it goes in the life of Republicans. (Shakes head sadly)
BackToBasics| 10.14.11 @ 7:46PM
I have also read that Rubio will do nothing to stop illegal immigration. He's far, far better than his opponent, Crist, in the election but still, he's overrated regarding his conservative credentials.
I've said it before that the litmus test for a true conservative is to see if he is both against illegal immigration and will take measures to try to stop it.
Of the nine primary candidates on the Republican side, on paper at least, Bachman is most opposed to illegal immigration and Cain is second to her in this. They are both better than Romney. I do back Cain however since I think he has a much better chance of beating Obam and he has many other strengths I like as well.
missbosslady| 10.14.11 @ 8:12PM
Rubio is not who conservatives thinks he is, his skill was in seeing the opportunity presented by the Tea Party and pyaing lip service to them. No doubt he played a good game, but if you go back and review you will find that he has never taken a position on illigal immigration and that is certainly by design. Rubio knows that if his position became known conservatives would abandon him in a heart beat.
BackToBasics| 10.15.11 @ 2:35AM
I think you misunderstand my reply. I was agreeing with your initial comment. He has said enough to where it is known that he will not stop illegal immigration.
missbosslady| 10.15.11 @ 11:10AM
I didn't misunderstand. I have a tendency to repeat myself. Living in South Florida for almost four decades has me a bit over wrought about the issue.

The Professor and his retinue of zanies and thugs and degenerates shattered the Clinton machine in 2008. Other than that, nothing. And much worse than nothing.
And now back to "The Last Hurrah" (1958), in which Spencer Tracy heads a political machine that finally poops out. In retrospect, I think it may turn out to have been better to have had the shameless narcissism of the liberal mindset on full public display for four years in the form of the Professor, rather than to have had it obscured by the smarmy mendacity and icy hysterics of what's-her-name, the Velociraptor.

When it comes down to it, any time Karl Rove says something I go the other direction. The man is a prime example of the Ruling Class Elite in D.C. and their attempts to keep out anyone that speaks out against it.
Perry and Newt need to drop out and throw their support to Cain. That will do three things for the GOP. One, it will put support behind the only candidate that has an actual plan (regardless of how you feel about it) to fix things in government instead of only focusing on things the current administration did wrong. Two, it will prove they are both actual conservatives and not just talking heads trying for "their turn." If they really want to stay involved beyond that point that can join the campaign and get selected for various Cabinet positions. Three, it will show the country that the GOP is not composed entirely of those same Ruling Class Elite morons that have screwed up America so much in the last 20 years.
As for my comment above about not focusing only on what the current administration has screwed up, I'm NOT saying not to bring those up. But you need to also have a plan to fix it. Other than repealing things that have been put in place, nobody except Cain has a dang plan. Even Ron Paul has only been harping on how they shouldn't have done this, how he'll remove this, how he'll end that. The only original idea he's had is how he'll audit the Fed... yup, that'll fix everything right there! /sarcasm
Whether you like it or not, Cain's plan is actual action that can be taken (no matter how hard it may be to get through Congress) to fix the problem that is our federal government. He has also shown that he is willing to admit when he is wrong. And above all, he started from the bottom and worked his way all the way to the top THREE TIMES. Cain is the embodiment of the American Dream; that no matter who you are, or what part of life you come from, you can make something of yourself. That even someone whose parents were both working class citizens can rise to become one of those wealthy people just about everyone wishes they could be, so long as you are WILLING TO WORK FOR IT. He is the counter for all these kids that think they are entitled to an education, or a high class job, just because they went through school. Cain worked for everything that he got, and that is what angers and scares the establishment people.
He isn't one of them.
aware| 10.14.11 @ 3:51PM
If you knew what the Fed does you would know how UNsarcastic it really is to know a lot of our economic problems would be fixed with ending it.
As far as "fixing the Federal government" goes, Cain plan won't even touch that but it will get you a Democratic wet dream, a national sales tax with the income tax. Just imagine with a consumption tax how much the Nits in the Nanny State can control your life. He, and anybody else, who doesn't understand what boon to politicians and the State this will be is either a naive fool or a paid dupe.
The problem is not taxes. Or how an extortion scheme is administered. Number 1 problem is spending. Number 2 is debt to keep #1 going. Number 3 is the amount of private wealth removed from the economy in the form of taxes, also to keep #1 going. Cain has already said his plan is "revenue neutral" which means the amount of wealth confiscated to keep this circus on the road is fine by him. It doesn't do anything about the spending thing.
If you put a national sales tax on the table without the 16th amendment repealed first you will be very sorry. Has Obama made conservatives so incoherent in their rage they don't see the awful danger in this idea? Remember another time when we(our grandfathers) were promised that the new income tax would only affect "the richest"? Or when politicians promised that Social Security would only be 2% out of our checks?
Once upon a time conservatives would have proposed the repeal of income taxes for the evil it is. Now they just want to "make it fair", just like the the left. And they honestly believe this is "opposition" to "the socialists". Pathetic.
TrueBlue| 10.14.11 @ 4:05PM
Everyone with half a brain knows the 16th would have to be repealed, and that Cain's plan would have to be an actual Amendment with actual safeguards against modifying it that the 16th never had, so bring that up as a reason the plan is bad is silly.
Revenue neutral means that no matter how much you make you're not taxed differently than anyone else. No idea how you figure it means he's okay with the amount of wealth confiscated right now. If he was okay with it he wouldn't be proposing a system to tax people LESS. Also, a sales tax, while it would increase the cost of goods would STILL result in my getting 6% more of my income in my pocket than the current system does.
No matter how much everyone wants to get rid of taxes, until the government has ZERO debt it just isn't possible. The best thing to do until that point is to reduce taxes to increase business and grow the economy, curtail spending, and remove a good number of departments and agencies that have no reason to exist. Every conservative already understands, and most agree, on the last two. The only one that really needs discussion in a GOP debate is the first one, and Cain is the only one that's bothered to talk about it.
TrueBlue| 10.14.11 @ 4:39PM
I take that last sentence back slightly. Santorum has spoken about tax changes as well, and what he'd do. Sadly he's way down in the polls and I don't see him coming up any time soon or I'd be backing him. He'd make a great VP or head of the Treasury though.
aware| 10.14.11 @ 5:54PM
Do you have any idea of what passing a constitutional amendment entails? See here and notice especially the president has NO role in the entire process:http://www.archives.gov/federal-register/constitution/
It always helps to know correct things. The pertinent article in the Constitution is V.
Revenue neutral means the same amount of money collected by government no matter what changes in the tax code. Not sure where you get "Revenue neutral means that no matter how much you make you're not taxed differently than anyone else." But this is NOT what the term means. Hence you couldn't understand what I mean by him being OK with the amount.
"...my getting 6% more of my income in my pocket ..." Isn't it wonderful when our rulers and would be rulers decide to let us have 6% more of what we work for! God save the king! Sorry but I couldn't help myself.....
The reality is that conservatives have never cut anything. Name one agency, department, or even funding for same that was cut? They've promised it for 50 years, just like now, but it has never happened. I wish it had, even a little bit. None of the "frontrunners" will cut a thing, if you think they will you're smokin' hopium. They just want to rearrange the deck chairs. They aren't worried about the speed and the fog.
TrueBlue| 10.15.11 @ 1:13PM
I'm well aware the President has practically nothing to do with the process, but he CAN push for the party to get off their asses and do the right thing. Whether they agree to do it or not is another matter entirely. But you know the White House releases a budget every year right? Then Congress adjusts it and votes on their "finished" version before it goes back to the President for signing. In that budget he can make suggestions for tax rate adjustments, etc.
Even assuming the government takes in the same amount through the taxes, what is the problem? When taxes go down, government revenue tends to go up. His plan is cautious in saying it's revenue neutral. People make more money, they tend to spend more, which means more tax revenue. You'd think it was rocket science.
Oh yea, and the personal income taxes he's talking about INCLUDES SS and Medicare.
I would be all for us going back to not having to pay ANY income taxes, but you know what? THAT ISN'T REALISTIC. IF the country had no debt then we could do that, but we are in huge debt, so the idea of not having an income tax right now is insane.
You know why they never cut anything? Because people keep voting for the establishment types in. If people would actually vote for someone else when the politician they elected last time didn't keep his word, you'd start to see changes. Everyone else on that stage is a politician, vote for the one who isn't.
I'll say it again, it may not be a perfect plan, but it's better than anything anyone else has proposed. At the very least it gets people actually thinking about it!
aware| 10.15.11 @ 3:50PM
Since having an income tax didn't prevent the acquisition of the debt, I fail to see how keeping it somehow pays it off. You don't understand politicians at all. Maybe Cain doesn't either. Failure to understand the political arena is like swimming in shark infested waters with a cut on both legs. You don't have to be a shark, but you'd better understand sharks.
Now you pay the Feds when you make money. With Cain's plan you will pay them when you earn AND when you spend. If you or he, thinks that 9% is anything but an "introductory" teaser rate in the hands of the political class, you are both insane. And if you can't see the glaring Orwellian nightmare this will be for liberty, well its hard to overcome conditioning and indoctrination of a lifetime. 'Specially for a party man. It will be a disaster economically and for liberty.
If the Democrats were proposing this you would smell a rat immediately, but because a Republican is it hardly gives you pause. Wait till you see what Democrats will do with a national sales tax to beat the "wrong" kind of "behaviors" out of you.
TrueBlue| 10.15.11 @ 4:29PM
It will only be introductory if it is written to allow it to be adjusted. I understand politicians quite well actually, which is why I support Cain, BECAUSE HE ISN'T ONE. All of the other candidates have held political office.
No matter how you look it, no matter how much the government reduces spending, they will need taxes to pay off the debt. Which candidate would you prefer? Since you seem to have an idea of the perfect person for the job. All you have done is point out negatives, but you have yet to give a solution of your own. If you have one, find a candidate and suggest it, or send it to your House Rep or Senator maybe! Hell, run for office yourself and tell people about it!
I could care less what somebody's political party is, I've always voted based on each particular candidates record, whether in private industry or their previous political record if they have one. So don't assume that I am agreeing with it just because a Republican suggested it. I didn't like either of the Bush presidencies, though H.W. did better than his son if you ignore the fact he fell for the same trick Reagan did of promising cuts for raising taxes. They were still better than the alternative (barely in the case of Jr.).
Everything you have said has led me to believe that either you don't live in reality, or you are searching for some theoretical perfect candidate that knows exactly what to do to turn things around, has never done anything wrong in their life, and has never come even close to being in politics... oh wait, those are all impossible, especially that last one, because dealing with people is technically politics.

You actually think a debt of 60 to 80 trillion bucks can be paid off? The real debt may well be 10 times GDP. The debt is unpayable and governments throughout history in this position have only had 2 choices, default or hyperinflate the debt away. I suggest you investigate the Ming dynasty, the Ottoman empire, or Brazil in the '90s, Germany in the '20s, or a host of other examples. They all did the same as we will do.
I would also say check out what Mises called The Crack up Boom.
There is no such thing as an honest politician. None of them can prevent what they have caused, a systemic collapse of epic proportions. Money printing can hide this, like now, for a while but that always ends the same, monetary destruction. Don't believe those offering superficial treatments for mortal wounds.
Instead of believing one of them will save you with their promises you should take steps for yourself. The step from inflation to hyperinflation is a swift one with shattering consequences if you are not prepared.
And maybe I am nuts, but I say it is too late for "policy" edge nibbling to prevent what years of folly have brought us to.
Margie| 10.14.11 @ 12:18PM
You know that the Bible says that the whole world is in the power of the evil one. 1 Jn. 5:19.
You also know that when Christ returns, the government "shall be upon His Shoulder". Is. 9:6.
For now, as Christians, we should do our civic duty and vote for the best candidate possible for the Presidency. It's just common sense and reality till He returns.
aware| 10.14.11 @ 3:54PM
And you know He said that the rulers of this world lord it over those under them and call themselves benefactors. Then He said His people are not to be like that. And then there's the part about serving 2 masters?
Margie| 10.14.11 @ 6:52PM
Yeah, so?
Are you trying to tell me that by voting in the elections, I'm being "like them?"
Nah. Just not the truth.
Nor is anybody "serving two masters by voting for the most conservative candidate that we are able to.
Remember He also said we are in the World, but not of it. It's what we are on the inside that counts.
aware| 10.14.11 @ 7:19PM
"Nor is anybody "serving two masters by voting for the most conservative candidate that we are able to."
Maybe, maybe not, but you are deluding yourself if you think any of these Party cogs are going to change anything. Remember last Nov. when I told you your boyfriends would snake out on you? Rubio lookin' good now, ain't he? Where's that repeal Obamacare you were promised? Seen any cuts in spending? Seems all quiet on the cut and repeal front. Nary even a threat of "defunding" to be heard. Bet your boys raise the debt ceiling again in the next 4 months too. Irritating isn't it?
There's only one Party and you support the right wing of it.
Margie| 10.14.11 @ 8:03PM
We've talked about this before, about how things are so messed up and at the point of no return. I keep saying I get it, with the addition of the fact that I see it as my duty to vote.
None of the candidates are perfect, one's a terrorist sympathizer, one's a member of a Religious cult, or rather two are (Huntsman is too?).. but Herman Cain's a Christian. So is Perry.
You can't get much better than that.
Christian AND conservative? Sounds good enough to me!
And there isn't just one party. It's just that the Republican party has gotten soft.. because we've let it.
I haven't given to the RNC for many years. I suggest we all put our money where are mouths are, and send it to the individual candidates.
I just don't see it as God's will to sort of "drop out of society" and not vote, or throw my vote away to the Left.
TrueBlue| 10.15.11 @ 2:50PM
News flash, it takes both the House and Senate to repeal a bill, or to pass a new one. Which one do the new guys have control of? Oh yea, ONLY the House. How many bills have they passed only to be tabled by the Senate without even any discussion? At least 6 last time I checked, including 2 budget bills.
Blame the people responsible, the Democrat controlled Senate, and President Obama who has said on several occasions he would veto any of the bills the House has put forward, specifically mentioning the bill each time they come up with a new one. Yea, darn those guys in the House for doing their job and only being 1/3 of the entire law process...

"Sooner or later you will realize politicians are not your friends and that government is a vast criminal conspiracy. Maybe then you will also know it won't matter who gets "elected", this train is going over the cliff."
Yet Americans are, since they have more freedom, particularly dishonest--
so they get dishonest government.
Democracy is everyone getting what they deserve.
aware| 10.14.11 @ 6:08PM
You have it backwards, it is the State that breeds corruption in its citizens. If you believe Americans are more dishonest because of freedom then we would have been much worse people at the beginning. And we would have been getting steadily better with the rise of State control over more and more of our lives.
Government is always at the center of a corrupt nation and is always dominant over corrupt citizens. Indeed, corruption on this scale would be impossible without government.

Selective cutting and pasting from Ron Paul's Web site, or from pro-Paul sources, doesn't cut it, clinty.
According to the Center for Responsive Politics (http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2011/09/barack-obama-ron-paul-military-cash.html) Paul has raised about $32,000, which makes him number two in garnering "active military" donations.
Care to guess who number one is?
Barack Hussein Obama, at $34,000.
This exact same propaganda emerged from the 2008 campaign.

The report - "Perry's Piggybank" - by Texans for Public Justice says 43 companies gave nearly $7 million in political contributions to Perry or the RGA.

You call others bloviators and that's all you do yourself; then you whine when others treat you the way you treat them and accuse them of whining.
What on earth would happen if Paul became president? Where would you direct your rage? At random passersby?
Probably at the many exigencies that would preclude his being able to succeed. Because, as Obama's legions of idiot voters found out, getting elected isn't the goal - it's GOVERNING that matters. Presidents are not dictators (or at least they weren't prior to Obama's inauguration); they don't have magic wands. They have to deal with the world as it is, not as devoted fans want it to be. As I've said MANY times, there are a lot of things I like about Ron Paul. But one of the things I don't like is the rabid, cult-like zombies that comprise such a large portion of his followers. There's something disturbing about you people, and I think it's rooted in a desire to settle scores -which is similar to what drives a lot of liberals. It's what drove Lenin, Hitler and Obama.
And nuking Israel isn't going to make the booboo go away. America is (or used to be) a de facto hegemon, and that breeds ill will. It's the same reason people hate the Yankees and the Patriots.
The problem with foreign policy is that the lines aren't clear between what lies within the realm of our own interests and what lies outside that realm; it is not a binary equation. Hence the problems of the last, oh, 10,000 years of civilization.
I guarantee you, if Paul got elected, you would be disappointed because ALL politicians disappoint. It is inevitable. When reality meets idealism, guess which one gives way?
Why don't you take an anger management class or take up a hobby other than collecting Ron Paul press clippings?
At least get outside and break the suction for a few minutes.

Bigots like O'Donnell hate Cain because he is his own person; they just HATE it when blacks get all uppity and stop obeying their lilly-white overseers.
Meanwhile, you have pretzel-logic morons like Janine "I'm so riddled with self loathing that I can't even see" Garofalo calling Cain himself a racist (Janine, do us all a favor and just end it all, ok? A needy, transgendered Namibian can make better use of the air you breathe)!

martin j smith| 10.14.11 @ 7:38AM
I will start with the view that the CNN or any of the prior debates stunk and this one will stink as well because it is controlled by the MSM and thus the Establishment Republicans. Having said that:
Unless Romney shows that he is not a Socialist but will run as a real Conservative I think he will not be the nominee. That means he must come clean about Romney Care and state outright that he will support repeal of Obamacare. among other things. If he does not do that I think Cain or any of the others have a good chance to take his place.
In spite of the MSM and Republican Establishment's efforts to control and manipulate the situation of the debates, voters are more informed now than ever and will find the candidate that sounds more Anti-Washington and Anti-Crony Capitalism--Not Ron Paul or John Huntsman.

Plus a relaxed attitude towards illegal immigration and non-heterosexual rights plagues the party. Republicans of all stripes went nuts over nationalized health care and now they’re poised to turn over the party to the person who authored the state version of Obamacare. Solo| 10.14.11 @ 8:06AM
I watched the Fox News interview with Karl Rove last night and he made some VERY valid points.
Herman Cain is spending all his time (and what little money he has) campaigning in Kentucky, etc when he needs to be putting his time into the early Caucus and Primary states.
Also, bear in mind, that in order to win these primaries, you need a solid "ground game" (as they call it) with a well oiled organization of volunteers, offices, phone banks, E-Mail blitzes, door to door marketers getting out your message...and so on...
Cain has almost NONE of this. He's like a one-man band with little money behind him....and that ain't good.
It could be that his sudden rise in the polls surprised even him and has caught him flat-footed.
If he doesn't get his game together, and REALLY FAST, his candidacy will be over by Valentine's Day.
Simon Templar| 10.14.11 @ 1:49PM
Then start sending Cain some funds. Or maybe we could for once in the history of this nation elect someone who does not have the biggest pile of money to buy the office.
I understand what you are saying and am not trying to dismiss your point.
Rove and the esatblishment attempt to set the rules of the game and the expectations. No one either he or anyone else could have predicted what happen in 2010 years before, it did not fit the expected game or racket they have constructed.
The same could happen, if we wanted it to in this election. We really have to stop listening to the likes of Rove, O'Reilly and all the other establishmnent RINO's and opportunist.
There is a whole group from Peggy Noonan to O'Reilly to Rove to George Will. You know who they are. They will pander to the Tea Party and conservatives and flyover country went it suits them.
When those 'folks' stray to far from what they consider possible and within their definition of moderation and their worldview, they throw you overboard in a blink of an eye.
When it comes down to it they do not believe in self government and they perceive that the vast public are abunch of rubes incapable of seeing what is up from down and need to be ruled and guided by an elite..preferably themselves.
Lets us be truly honest and willing to really look here at the full political landscape and the forces at play.
Take a good look at most of the AS writers and pundits here, for example. each day, a new article about how the GOP field sucks, Cain can not do it, we are helpless, Romney is the only hope, money is what counts, and on and on, They buy into the limited, cynical, and stale thinking that has infected the conservative movement and the GOP for most of a century.
Hell, it does not even matter that some general public polls have actually show cain able to beat the poser. No, like dogs to vomit, they are right back to slopping up the conventional thinking and propaganda.
Solo| 10.14.11 @ 4:40PM
Wow! Well...don't sugar coat it, Simon. Tell us what you really think! LOL!
I agree! I'm not suggesting that Cain 'shouldn't win" or that he "couldn't win". But, unfortunately, face time with the public (and that includes "The Great Un-washed" who also vote) costs money in this day and age.
And...when you have little (by comparison) that is a HUGE disadvantage.
It's not fair....but it is most often true.
THAT is what Rove was expressing. He's a nuts & bolts political guru and he knows of what he speaks--like him or not.
I'm a Perry fan for now but I do like Herman Cain, as well. I hope he does well. But...it takes a strong ground organization to do that and that takes money. He has neither right now and damned little time to accumulate either prior to the 1st round of Primaries and Cauci.
Meanwhile....as Rove pointed out, he's campaigning in..... Kentucky.
Simon Templar| 10.14.11 @ 6:30PM
Solo, when did I ever sugar coat anything! :)
What you are saying has merit and is the current conventional thinking. I am not saying Rove is an idiot.
What I am trying to say is that it is very possible to not make this about who has the most money and boots on the ground to pay them. Hell, if that is the case we should quit now, Obama has billions to spend and raised 4o million in one month.
If I came up to you five years ago and said, you know, I think it is possible for average citizens around the country to organize themselves and circumvent the GOP establishment, run their own candidates and take almost every local, state, and congressional seat open in this next election cycle without essentially RNC direction or money or approval, you would have laughed and told me to take a pill.
The fact that we just roll over and accept this as the way it works is the problem. It does not have to be so.

Despite the money, despite the cheerleading from the media and the GOP elites, Romney's campaign is in trouble, and they know it.
Romney CANNOT rise above the mid-20% range in the polls. Cain leads in SC and FL, and Gingrich is rising slowly but surely. Soon, Bachman, Santorum, and probably Perry will be forced to drop-out. When they do, their supporters will likely shift allegiance to Cain as opposed to Romney.
The Pro-Romney crowd is well aware I'd this, which is why they're pushing hard to move-up all of the primaries. They want to lock this up by Christmas, and be done with it, thus negating millions of GOP primary voters across the south and southwest who will NOT support Romney.
Cain, Gingrich, Perry, and the rest should announce that they plan on campaigning throughout the primaries regardless of NH and Iowa, and if necessary, they will take the fight straight to the GOP convention floor next Summer.
If Romney wins fair and square, that's one thing. But this frontloading shenanigans that the GOP establishment is engaged in must not be allowed to stand.

Conservatives are repeating the same error we made in 1968 when we chose to back Nixon, as electable, over Reagan. We repeated the error in 1976. Even though the convention wanted Reagan it went with Ford as the Conservatives were too timid to push through.
In 1960 Goldwater told the convention, "Lets grow up Conservatives. If we want to take this party back...lets get to work."

Goldwater '64 was a slaughter for the GOP, so that might not be the best example.
Al Adab| 10.14.11 @ 3:48PM
Yes, '64 was a disaster, but from those roots- and remember the country wasn't going to elect any republican following november '63- grew the success that was the Conservative era. You do remember the USSR don't you, just to name one small accomplishment. Without Goldwaters' willingness to sacrifice his career for the sake of the Movement, the deluge would have come much sooner. He was the most significant losing candidate of the 20th century. It was the GOP which failed the Movement following 1980 and 1994 not the other way around.

To give credit where it is due, we must mention Bush 41 and his masterful handling of the collapse of the USSR. History owes him a great debt that the tanks did not roll nor the missles fly during the coup.

None of the current candidates is a serious dedicated conservative like Goldwater that wants to oppose the growth of the federal government. Goldwater voted against most of LBJ's legislation.
The only one who comes close is Ron Paul but he has been marginalized because his foreign policy views on terrorrism and Israel. Goldwater was marginalized because his foreign policy was seen as agressive while Pual's is seen as passive. But who else realy talks about reducing the size of government? Maybe Santorum shares some of Goldwater's views.

JP| 10.14.11 @ 9:09AM
And that should give the GOP cause for worry. Mitt has a whole slew of advisors (many still on his payroll) who continue to advise the President on implementing ObamaCare. If Huntsman and Romney are represenative of the Mormon religion, then Utah has more problems than it thinks. Romney is a Progressive Democrat posing as a Republican. If the conservatives bolt the GOP, the GOP is finished as a party. A Mitt Romney nomination will go a long way to making that a reality.
Steve A| 10.14.11 @ 9:34AM

You think Romney is the best candidate? Swell. That's your opinion. It's not mine.
Is Mitt a fine man and a decent human being? I don't know him personally, but from all I do know about him, that's an accurate statement.
The problem is that he's not campaigning to be "Most Popular Guy in Class"; he wants to be POTUS.
And based on his record as Governor, there are some issues that give pause to us "right-wing fanatics".
Finally, as a "Proud Mormon", you should be used to criticism of the LDS.
I don't think Mormonism is a valid faith.
But un my opinion, that doesn't disqualify Romney from the office of POTUS.
Others, unfortunately, disagree. And they have that right.
Al Adab| 10.14.11 @ 11:19AM
Electing an accomodationist republican will not serve to unwind the disaster that this administration has fomented. It will only serve to slow the inevitable slide into tyranny and statism. Frankly, what is the point of that? Why should the GOP nominate someone to the left of McCain and expect to accomplish a roll back of the policies and economics we are suffering through today? Why cement the current policies by electing a republican who will seek compromise rather than the restoration of Liberty?
W| 10.14.11 @ 12:25PM
Al,
I am not persuaded by the lables such as conservative, moderate, or tea party attached to the candidates because when faced with decisions on specific concrete issues the labels do not predict the decision. GWB is the perfect example, he ran as a conservative but he increased government, such as the Education dept with the No child left Behing Act, McCain Feingold, the wars, Medicare Drug Benefit, and Homeland Security.
In these debates all the candidates say they will repeal obamacare, but they need congress for that and most of the other decisions, such as reduce taxses and cut spending. We need to elect senators and representatives who will cut taxes and reduce spending.
Al Adab| 10.14.11 @ 3:38PM
W:
Yes indeed. Unless the Congress is solidly in control of Conservatives (I don't use the other labels) instead of simply Republicans there is little chance to unwind this mess. It is why I am concerned over the emphasis on who the President may be. Local elections (and every state is being redistricted) are where the rubber meets the road. The DEMS will pull out all stops to create "competitive" (read safe for them) districts in the new maps.
The problem is getting any of the candidates on the record regarding Obamacare, regulatory nightmares (like CFLs) bailouts, what to do with GM, the banks, Fannie etc. There is so great a totalitarian agenda it will take a generation to undo it and I doubt we have the time.
Margie| 10.14.11 @ 12:37PM
"I don't think Mormonism is a valid faith.
But un my opinion, that doesn't disqualify Romney from the office of POTUS."
I agree. Because of the Constitution, Romney cannot make any laws forcing anyone to become Mormons, thankfully!
I have no fear of Mormonism, nor any other cult for that matter. The President is sworn to uphold the Constitution, and this is not a Theocracy.

You are correct on one point. Romney is the best Republican candidate. That is also his problem. Conservatives are tired of backing republicans who sell us down the river time and again. This is an historic opportunity to elect a Conservative, not an east coast, accomodationist, establishment Republican. Remember the Rockefeller/Romney (George) wing of the GOP opposed the Conservative Movement from its beginning, yet that movemet brought the GOP its only successes in the last 50 years.

The entire primary process is broken. Perhaps it would be better for the party to return to an open convention. The RNC during the 1970s adopted the DNC's primary process, which doesn't make much sense. A candidate needs beaucoup bucks, and must spend 2-3 years in Iowa and New Hampshire just be considered "relevant". This is just insane. Mitt Romney, if nominated, will garner at best 35% of GOP primary votes. And the RNC is bound and determined to get him the nomination as early as possible; they know the longer the process takes the more likely he stands the chance of losing support and momentuem.
If the RNC persists they just may cause an irrevocable break between conservatives and the GOP. The GOP is leaving conservatives, and not the other way around. The Grand Ol Party is quickly going the way of the British Tories.
Casey Abell| 10.14.11 @ 9:07AM
Oh yeah, giving party insiders a lot more power is just the ticket. We don't want some idiot voters deciding on the nominee.

http://www.realclearpolitics.c.....dates.html
JP| 10.14.11 @ 9:13AM
You don't seem to understand how the old convention system works. The Insiders have no hold on party delegates. The delegates can change thier mind at any time. In reality, someone like a Bachman, or Cain can run an insurgency right up until the floor vote. This occured several times between 1948-1960 - the most famous being JFKs insurgency in 1956. Goldwater "stole" the convention against Rockefeller and Mitt's father in 1964 (the later 2 being solid Establishment Republicans). Go back and read your history.
Casey Abell| 10.14.11 @ 9:21AM
Right, the party insiders would have no hold on the delegates, and pigs would fly, and the GOP would pick a big winner like they did in 1964.
Please. The insiders would make sure the candidate doing the best in the polls against Obama got the nom. You just don't like the guy who's doing the best in the polls against Obama.
Well, I'm not crazy about him, either. I'm the last Perry supporter, so I'm not feeling too swell right now. But that doesn't mean I want to hand the entire nomination process to Karl Rove and friends.
JP| 10.14.11 @ 9:20AM
"Who do you think the party insiders would pick? Hint: the guy who is doing best in the polls against Obama. And who do you think that guy is?"
You don't seem to know what you're talking about. Party Insiders are forcing Mitt on the primaries. If current trends continue, Perry, Bachman, and Sanatorum will be out of the race before Thanksgiving. This is insane. Spot polling driven by "debates" (which are moderated by Democrats and the MSM) have elevated one to 2 candidates months before the first primary. And it is polling that drives fundraising. Essientially, Mitt will have the nomination sealed up by the end of January. This is not only insane, but it is a death wish for the GOP.
Casey Abell| 10.14.11 @ 9:24AM
"You don't seem to know what you're talking about."
Yeah, I can't read the RCP averages. Because, you know, they're so hard to understand. Numbers and everything.
"Spot polling driven by "debates" (which are moderated by Democrats and the MSM) have elevated one to 2 candidates months before the first primary. "
Yeah, because people can't watch the debates and make up their own minds. People are stupid. So let's have the party insiders make their minds for them.
The Big E| 10.14.11 @ 9:16AM
Frankly, I'm sick of primaries scattered all over the calendar. I'm sick of New Hampshire and South Carolina and Nevada (and the Iowa caucus) being treated as if they're the only states, the only citizens, the only votes, which count. And I'm sick of my vote being meaningless because I don't live in one of those states. I live in NC. Our primary is May 8. I will likely get the choice of voting for someone who already has locked up the nomination, or someone who doesn't have enough sense to realize their opponent has already locked up the nomination. One thing you can count on though, my primary, along with the primary vote of every other Republican here, will be meaningless.
I will say this though, if Mitt Romney is nominated, I will go to the polls in November and vote against Barack Obama. If Herman Cain is nominated, I will go to the polls in November and vote for Herman Cain.
I haven't had the chance to vote FOR somebody since the very first Presidential ballot I ever cast - in 1984 for Ronald Reagan.
Since then, it's been a choice between the lesser of two evils.
Arthro| 10.14.11 @ 9:19AM
Herman Cain is a great man, but he's not the best candidate for the job. Romney is.
Strong conservatives pushing for Cain will result in Obama getting re-elected, and Perry would guarantee a loss to Obama.
So, from my view...the most important isue is getting rid of Obama. Romney is the guy who can do that - debate skills, readiness, fund raising, executive leadership. Come on, folks. Get behind Romney and let's take this country back from the socialists entitlement protectors.
And, by the way, I don't give a crap if he's Mormon and I don't give a crap about Romneycare. It's time to get this country back on track. Mitt Romney is the man.
Doctor Right| 10.14.11 @ 9:59AM

Have you actually listened to what he says when he delivers one of those polished answers???
He says he's going to issue a "waiver" to all 50 states to nullify ObamaCare.
PROBLEM: This "waiver" nonsense is unconstitutional. And if the SCOTUS upholds the individual mandate, we're screwed.
He claims that "RomneyCare" is not the same as "ObamaCare".
PROBLEM: Romney's advisers advised Obama on ObamaCare! They said that "RomneyCare" was the template for "ObamaCare". If Romney is the nominee, the #1 single biggest election-year issue - ObamaCare - is OFF THE TABLE!!! Then what?!?!
Sorry that you don't "give a crap" about RomneyCare...that simply means you don't even understand why it's a problem.
Romney supported TARP.
PROBLEM: Much of the TARP money was improperly used to nationalize banks and the auto industry. Does Romney think that's OK??
Romney is a Mormon.
PROBLEM: Rightly or wrongly, that will alienate MANY voters in the south. You may think it's nonsense, but that does NOT negate it as a valid issue.
Please explain exactly WHY "Strong conservatives pushing for Cain will result in Obama getting re-elected, and Perry would guarantee a loss to Obama.".
The RINOS like to repeat this over and over, but they cannot justify it with one shred of evidence.
Defeating Obama is the priority.
Defeating the RINO GOP-establishment comes next.
You RINOs need to understand one thing:
The anger in this country is palpable, and it FAR exceeds anything that existed in 1980. We got Reagan into the White House in '80 despite the interference of the GOP-establishment, and we will overcome those bastards in 2012, too. But this time, if they try to screw us and force Romney onto the nomination without a fair primary fight, there WILL be a reckoning.

“Our military’s purpose is to defend our country, not to police the

“As the President prepares to send even more support to Egypt, we should
be reminded that it was our foreign aid that helped Mubarak retain power
to repress his people in the first place. Now we have to deal with the
consequences of those decisions, yet we keep repeating the same mistakes.
“I am not the only one who can see the absurdities of our foreign
policy. We give $3 billion to Israel and $12 billion to her enemies.
Most Americans know that makes no sense.
“We need to come to our senses, trade with our friends in the Middle

good example, and allow them to work out their own conflicts.”

MEDIA--ACADEMIA--DEMOLEFTISTS--RINOS
The deck is stacked against conservatives. The WORST we have to fight are the rinos. They do it or try to do it every time. They would rather have a destructive leftist democrat in the Whitehouse than a Reagan or Goldwater. Their power base in the party is precious to them. Decades have proven they are happy with playing second fiddle to the democrats; but abhor having the party run by conservatives--or as daddy busch once said "that vision thing". It's "Kinder gentler" as opposed to a Reagan or "Compassionate conservatism" setting the stage for a monster like O!
Guys like rove torpedo conservatives in favor of rino moderate/liberals.
In '08 the rinos came up with Huckabee to siphon conservative votes so we would end up with a loser like mccain. The democrats wanted it that way! The media wanted it that way! The power loving rino's wanted it that way!
THIS TIME IT"S romney! With his health care and his aiding & abetting obama care! With his global warming and the resultant strangulation of our energy sources! Etc. Etc.
This time no acceptance of ultimate nose holding voting in NOV 2012. We fight on for either Cain-Perry-Santorum or even Newt. But we DO NOT accept the rino choice.

Petronius| 10.14.11 @ 10:18AM
We're already toast. The Republican party in my state has declared the spring primary "nonbinding". This makes it a farce and a lose-lose, as it is being done expressly to checkmate TeaParty voters. The Replisnobs and the Demoncrats have one commonality; the desire to prevent anybody they don't like from ever accumulating enough wealth to escape their socialistic meat grinder. They have acted in concert to destroy the value of our homes and savings. We cannot beat them politically, but that isn't what this struggle is about. Only the highly affluent up to and including the independently wealthy enjoy the luxury of what used to be our Right of Free Association. That means the Right not to. The so called Civil Rights Law took that Right from one segment of society, the white middle class, and forced us to be preyed upon by all the lowlife in the world. Ironically, traitors among our own did this because they identify with that collection of lowlife who want everything given to them. And they have us right where they want us. Romney will be nominated and be elected the best Democrat Republicans ever had. The Conservative voters will again have nowhere to turn on election day and regardless of who wins, all we can expect is more intense persecution which will continue until we hit bottom and lose all we have to the predators in our streets and the parasites in government.

Mark B| 10.14.11 @ 10:19AM
Your comparison between Romney & the GOP field to the Rubio/Crist race does not jive. Marco Rubio was a skilled, and talented politician already well established in Florida politics, with a base of support amongst grassroots conservatives and voters in South Florida, particularly Cuban-Americans. Rick Perry is a conservative and has vast political experience, but he does not have the talent and ability to wage a 50 state national campaign based on what I've seen. Herman Cain has no political experience. Now, many might say that is a positive for Cain, and honestly I might be inclined to agree with you, but the fact is, it is extraordinarily difficult to run for President, having never held elected office in your life. His 9-9-9 tax plan, which gives the federal government authority to levy sales and value-added taxes on top of the income tax is something that a seasoned conservative pol would never do.

He's in camp with the Democrats on global warming too.

Clinton| 10.16.11 @ 7:42AM
Right! Herman Cain doesn't want to win he only wants to make sure no conservative stops Mitt's coronation. Anyone who looks seriously at his pizza deal of 9.99, his being anti life and marriage and pro-gun control knows Hermitt Cain isn't a real conservative anymore than Mitt or Christie.
Steve A| 10.14.11 @ 10:40AM
Mark, I think you have stumbled upon the nuggget here. Cain is doing & saying things that "seasoned politicians" would not do & say. This is the appeal.
As for the 999. The fact of the matter is that any future leftist administration can & will raise, create & impose higher taxes in any variety of ways (cap & trade, for example). 999 is simple, easy to understand, a net reduction, more fair & far superior to the current code. The 2/3 congressional authority to raise is not a safegurad against changing it (Unconstitutional), but it's name alone would create huge barriers for future administrations to overcome in terms of jacking it up. How popular would it be to push 10/10/10 & raise taxes on EVERYONE?? Ain't gonna happen.
Mimi| 10.14.11 @ 10:53AM
Steve...there is not a time I see or hear Herman Cain that I smile and like him....the 99 is fine but a NEW SALES TAX on top of the income tax is a KILLER for me! In N.Y. our sales tax started out @ 4% now it's 8%. If we BUY, it's 17% !
BUT IF.....Cain looks like he's IT....I will vote for him.
Newts ideas are BRILLIANT and will carve out A HISTORICAL path to our FREE nations future...Too GOOD for me to resist and think ahead for my many childrens and 23 GRAND-CHILDRENS future! Read up on this I found it to be PROFOUND and reason to bend toward Newt.
Steve A| 10.14.11 @ 11:23AM
Mimi, I hear ya. I personally think Newt is easily the best candidate in the field. It's not even really close. I would love to see him get momentum. If it looks like Cain, I think Cain / Newt would crush Obama. Cain could use Newt's policy skills & DC navigation to enact positive legislation.
All of the "pros" tell me Newt is done & damaged goods, but these are the same guys who gave us McCain. They say he is poison for independents, as well as Cain, but I'm just not gonna buy that. The last thing we need is Romney, but I still pull the lever for him vs. Obama.
Conserdude| 10.14.11 @ 12:57PM
Newt is a great debater and policy wonk, and a deeply flawed character who failed as Speaker and reckless in his personal life. I have no use for Romney, but he's preferrable over Newtie.
Steve A| 10.14.11 @ 2:18PM
Newt failed eventually as speaker because the press was relentless in seeking his destruction due to his effectiveness. Things are different today whith the Net, Fox, Talk Radio to balance the nonsense.
I remember seeing a clip of him back in the day & it went like this, " Now, I'm going to go reeeal slow here cause I know there are members of the press present. If you reduce the rate of projected growth from 7% to 5% of a government program, it is not a cut." "Do we understand, Just nod your head yes."
He takes no sh*t whatsoever from these leftist morons in the press & this alone puts him at the top of the list, along with Cain.

If Cain actually knew anything about the Constitution and didn't get it confused with the Declaration of Independence he'd know, as the Democrats found out with Obamacare, you cannot obligate future Congresses to a 2/3 vote to repeal anything or vote anything up or down. That would take a Constitutional amendment.
His pizza marketing idea of 9.99 is a massive tax increase that will make Dodd-Frank look like a brilliant piece of legislation.

Sizzle, not the steak.
Style over substance.
As an older observer of the 24/7 political dance, I’ve learned to avoid SEEING and HEARING via cathode ray tube images and sounds the sizzle and style of the candidates, as well as---especially!---the pundits.
Why, it’s more than enough of an effort to put up with the written words I deign to read daily!
However, gains made by winnowing out losers over the years have resulted in a residual of chelated-out winners, who I do, if I’m in the mood, choose to SEE and HEAR.
For me, as one who almost always follows Quin’s one time shot of eschewing all but the written words from these GOP wannabes, of course the rise of Cain has to be the most intriguing story. His 9-9-9 economic plan is thus most vital to understand.
Hence, until today (as someone who basically has an MA in economics from UCSB), after reading the reliable WSJ editorial pages and all the other hot shots give their erudite opinions about it, I was convinced it was a bad idea. So, I was eager and happy to SEE and HEAR Art Laffer, via Realclearpolitics.com’s youtube portal, give his APPROVAL to 9-9-9.
Actually, I was kind of shocked that Art didn’t denigrate it, BEFORE I carefully listened to him.
His analysis of 9-9-9 and what it would do was absolutely clear---and, his rebuttal to the argument that in the future politicians could make it a 20-20-20 etc “plan” cold cocked this complaint.
As Milton Friedman taught us, it’s the TOTAL amount of government spending that matters, not how it’s financed.
It’s the SPENDING, stupid!
In simple terms, then, pace the many-years argument by the WSJ, the key number to pay attention to is the percent of GDP that the federal government has SPENT, on average, over the years---usually excepting WWII for example.
So, 22% is about what SHOULD BE acceptable.
Now, attention must be paid to HOW that money is removed from the clinging fingers of taxpayers. At the present, as everyone agrees, the tax system is ROTTEN, inefficient, not reformable, and indeed, corrupt.
Cain’s 9-9-9 plan would be a HUGE improvement on what we now suffer, and in a much more efficient way be able to provide the 22% the fed should spend---and, NOT screw people who don’t deserve to be screwed. In short, if we were starting over, 9-9-9 would certainly be preferred to what we now have.
Now the bad news.
Nothing will change, except more fiddling in the future, around the edges, of the current tax system---probably for the lifetime of anyone over 50, at least. The status quo has many weapons to defend itself. It would likely be necessary for a war or some horrible catastrophe for the people to be FORCED to get back to a basic and efficient and FAIR tax code.
As for Romney, and the seven or eight other “dwarves” fighting to be able to “debate” Obama and win the presidency, they face a simple test---convince enough voters to choose them. This means, without a doubt, that---
Sizzle and style are what it’s all about! Proof---Obama!
So, my advice is to NOT take seriously all the inside baseball games about substance and the “steaks”, because even though they are interesting and edifying, for the people who matter—the average voters---they DO watch and listen to the candidates, and for the most part they don’t HEAR or SEE what’s beneath the shimmering offerings.
It rained today. It’ll probably rain tomorrow.
Obama ran against McCain in 2008.
You know what comes next!

Folks--We are being played by the Republican Establishment. Herman Cain is not to be trusted. His campaign is designed to capture Tea Party enthusiasm and nullify it long enough for the true conservatives to drop out. Cain's tax plan is asinine -- at best, it won't pass through Congress; at worst, it will be a brand new revenue stream for our already oppressive government. Cain is a supporter of the Federal Reserve and is a TARP supporter. Wake up, people.
There are two movement conservatives that we need to get behind -- Ron Paul & Rick Perry.
Full disclosure -- Paul is my first choice, hands down. If you call yourrself a conservative, then you ought to see how amazingly consistent and wise his positions are. The problem with Paul is not him, but the electorate. Neoconservatism has thoroughly polluted the Republican party. Hopefully, conservatives have not been so brainwashed by the Murdoch/Kristol/Rove vision of the Republican party that they fail to see the true conservativism of Paul.
Perry is flawed, but he could be dynamic. The energy policy that he rolled out today is excellent. Look at the opposition he is getting. A politician who has both the Establishment and opposition party vigorously oppposing him has my attention. So what if he is a lackluster debater? He can lead and usher in positive changes. His record is impressive. And if you think about it, he is actually right on the most controversial positions.
Pay attention to both men going forward and don't be seduced by the likes of Cain, or even worse, Romney.

The Republican elite are in for a surprise, Romney won't win. Romneycare/Obamacare. Romney believes in man made global warming. He's a socialist, because his actions show it.
Rob N| 10.15.11 @ 12:54AM
Excellent posts. I don't think people realize how dangerous Romney is. The entire narrative that is fueling his candidacy is based on an extreme pragmatism ("We need a candidate that can capture independent voters," "We need someone that can beat Obama"). Hogwash. A vote for Romney is not pragmatic; it is a complete abandonment of any conservative principal. He has strong socialist tendencies and has aligned himself with some notorious neocons (note his new foreign advisory team).
Romney could beat Obama, but he is exactly what the Obama administration is hoping for.A Romney nomination neutralizes most of the effective arguments against Obama. Obamacare? Forget it -- Romney is the fountainhead for that abomination. Bailouts? Romney agreed with TARP. Romney's blue-blood background allow Obama to use his full class warfare playbook. Romney never served in the military and it will be hard to convince general election voter that he has the chops to be Commander-in-Chief. Obama will just remind voters that "he got Osama."
Ironically, the argument for "electability" may beguile conservatives into getting behind a candidate that gives Obama his best shot at reelection.

What is this "DOCTOR Ron Paul" stuff I keep hearing from Clint and others? Where I work, I'm surrounded by people who call themselves "DOCTOR"--the most pathetic of them attaching the silly title to their monikers on their office doors. Sort of like "DOCTOR Martin Luther King" (who, by the way, cribbed his Ph.D. thesis).
I know hundreds of DOCTOR's, and the only DOCTOR I'm personally acquainted with who ISN'T a jackass is my cardiologist. (Well--there's me, but at my insistence they call me MISTER.) Who is this DOCTOR Ron Paul, anyway?
And now back to "Grapes of Wrath" (1939), in which DOCTOR Henry Fonda anticipates the advent of his insufferable daughter with the musings of a yokel: "Reds! Reds! All I hear about these days is REDS! Who ARE these Reds, anyway?"

Conservatives need to get ready, because the GOP elite are pushing Romney hard. The GOP elite does not want a conservative like Rick Perry to get the nomination, because they don't think he will appeal to the independents and moderates. Well, I say huey, if he can get this country back to work. Energy is his forte and he can certainly do what he says in a short period of time. TX also developed more jobs than any other state. He has stated that he would use the TX model as a blueprint and work with Congress to get things done. He has been Chair of the Republican Governors, so he knows them all very well. The bottom line is the Dems only know how to increase union labor as public employees. They don't actually know how to create jobs, they simply drive jobs out of the country. Elect Rick Perry to the job and watch him get the country back to work. He is the only one with a huge resume in the energy sector, which would get the results quickly.

But watch Obama, watch the Establishment Republicans and Socialists moves, watch what candidates do or do not do. Example: How come Romney is getting a free pass from ALL of the other candidates about Romney Care and its connection to Obama Care ?
There are those who say if Romney is the nominee vote for him. This may be wise advice--its more likely ( if it happens ) our only choice. I would like the competition for the nomination to be a fair one not manipulated.
If it is manipulated you will know.

Cain supporters can deny it, but Herman Cain was, is and always has been Mitt Romney's man in this race to take out the real conservatives. That's why he's followed Romney's lead on conservative social issues (abortion, marriage and gun control), proposed a ludicrous tax increase as Huntsman joked based on a pizza deal, has zero organization, zero money and never attacks Romneycare or Romney.
Hermitt Cain is Romney's inside man to destroy any chance conservatives have winning the Republican nomination.
bluecollarbytes| 10.15.11 @ 4:09PM
The one thing that can be detected for sure is a huge majority voting block for 'someone besides Romney'.
We are not going to turn the tax codes upside down without years of public debate, so I hope Herman Cain recalibrates his smart public policy to something that our current politics can digest, something less/different than 999.

I've been warning ppl about Rubio. As Speaker of the FL House of Reps he could have stopped lots of Rino crap. But he let it get to the floor. Like funding for Planned Parenthood etc. Rubio is RINO.
BackToBasics| 10.16.11 @ 11:53AM
I agree. Though Rubio's not in it this time around, this primary and election, more than any in my memory shows just how much RINO / Establishment Republicans oppose much more conservative candidates. That includes not only many pundits on sites such as National Review but many who write posts here.
The RINO's really do not see the danger we face as a nation. We are at a precipice and they think we can continue to make marginal policy changes and all will be well. I think Democrat leaders do see the danger and most welcome it since it will usher in a revolution that they hope will be the end of capitalism.
Democrats see the precipice as do conservatives. Dems like it and want to go voer the edge, conservatives don't. But RINO's are the most blind of the 3 groups.
The Bruce| 10.16.11 @ 10:12PM
You know, for all the pissing and moaning about this GOP candidate over that GOP candidate, I can't help but wonder who they'll support once the primaries are over.
We need to be unified in our support of whomever wins the nomination, warts and all.
Because, at the end of the day, if you decide to hold your nose and not vote for the Republican candidate because he or she doesn't pass your holier than thou litmus test for a conservative, libertarian, or GOP candidate, you're only helping to ensure the Marxist gets a second term.
Is that what you really want?
You all need to get onboard and understand that any, ANY, of the current Republican candidates would be a better President than the current one.
Look, I didn't like McCain as a candidate either, and I made the mistake of staying home on election day of 2008. In other words, through my inaction, I helped put the community agitator in office, and my country's been paying the price ever since.

REAL conservatives love Cain & Palin. The rest of the old like establishment dinosaurs & zombies will do everything to get Romney the nomination where he will either 1. loose badly or 2. win & be just another Obama. These big shot republicans never learn. They can all take a hike-especially Karl Rove!

Er, isn't it mathematically correct to say that, if you take Gingrich and add him to Bachmann and add her to Cain and add him to Perry and add him to (my own favorite--but hey, I'm a conservative, in love with lost causes) Santorum--I mean, if you add up the support for ALL the sure-enough conservatives, you go way the hell over 50 percent?
And is there anyone in this room who thinks any ONE of those conservative candidates wouldn't draw in the support of all the others? And at least half or more of the squishy-minded Romney supporters would shrug and vote for the conservative candidate?
So what is all this Romney talk, anyway? "Oh, sometimes I think I will just go mad." (Groucho Marx quoting Greta Garbo, 1929)

Great reporting, Stacy.
I suspect that the story was leaked by someone to damage Rubio's prospects of being picked by Mittens as his VP. OTOH, the Establishment wanted to wrap up the nomination early; witness the scrum they put up against Palin.
Well done. I wish Cain well, btw.
Red at Heart| 10.17.11 @ 8:41AM
The fix is in, clearly, with regard to Romney as being the Establishment Republicans' own version of The Annointed One.
Cain is going to begin to lose steam because he has no real-time record during the last few years and during the Recession. He's never defended a border, had to stand by a piece of legislation that he wrote that is under scrutiny, voted and had a negative backlash because of his decision. The grassroots movement should not ignore the incredible record of conservatism that Perry has and for those that automatically kicked him to the curb for instate tuition, do your homework on how that bill came about. Read up on Plyler v Doe and look at the growing number of other states that are taking the same approach. To make the ridiculous blanket statement that Perry is weak on immigration is entirely disingenuous. The opposite it true; in fact, no border state governor has done more.

I wish I could say I am surprised and shocked by all of this. And...I know Marco's people deny it. What would you expect them to do, admit it? The darling of so many desperately searching conservative souls will not willingly come clean. He is quite the slickster when he needs to be.
Why does Rubio need a lobbyist as his Chief of Staff? And, one who is a Romney man? One is left to conclude that the "message" and "ethos" of the tea party movement rolled over Marco like water off a ducks back. He did use it well though.
Anywhere one finds the Bushes lurking there is far more afoot than is visible to the naked eye. Jeb played the role of Marco's patron from behind the curtain. He only came out into the light on election night. The Bushes too have an agenda. Marco fit right in as the perfect surrogate.
Well we've got to live with this mistake for another 5 years. There is plenty of time to do a lessons leaned. There must be a vetting process, and hopefully not a desperate lot of Conservatives grasping at anything resembling "close enough". Marco's history in Tallahassee did have raise concerns. In the end he seemed better than the others, not the ideal way to choose a rep for 6 years.
And...Much like the broken watch, Paul Senft just happened to be right this time. Have no fear, he is part of the Ruling Class Establishment, most likely for Romney, and wishing for McCain. He proved he holds the "average" guy in nothing but contempt, when he did a fill in as a County Commissioner. Doubtful he could get elected dog catcher there today.

There is no story here. Of course somebody lobbied for Florida's primary to be moved up. So what if Romney supporters wanted it? Just vote for who you want, whether its in March or January. People are always clamoring for some sort of conspiracy theory and somebody always wants to cry victim as if the big guys are out to get them. I think we are too much of a victim society. Candidates and advocacy groups should advertise what they have to offer, not cry about who is being mean and getting all the attention.

Paul v Romney – Donations Show Stark Difference
Paul raised most from active military, Romney tapped big banks
LAKE JACKSON, Texas – A recent independent analysis of candidates’ campaign contributions reveals an interesting disparity between the Ron Paul 2012 Presidential Campaign and frontrunner Mitt Romney’s campaign. Romney’s top supporters appear to be made up of big banks while, unsurprisingly, Paul’s top contributors were men and women serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.
“This fundraising analysis confirms Americans’ beliefs about Ron Paul and their suspicions about Mitt Romney. It is that Dr. Paul is extraordinarily popular and accepted by the everyman and by everyday heroes, while Romney relies almost exclusively on his big-business ties,” said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton.
According to the analysis, the top three organizations that employ Romney’s supporters are Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse Group, and Morgan Stanley. Reflecting his popularity with the everyman and our uniformed service men and women, the top three organizations that employ Dr. Paul’s supporters are the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Army, and the U.S. Navy.
The study notes that the organizations themselves did not contribute. Rather, “the money came from the organization’s PAC, its individual members or employees or owners, and those individuals’ immediate families.” The analysis suggests, then, that the use of PACs, bundling, subsidiaries and the like was not a feature of Dr. Paul’s grassroots fundraising.
Ron Paul Campaign Tops Others in Q3 Active-Military Donations
Outraises all other Republican candidates combined, outraises Obama
LAKE JACKSON, Texas – The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential Campaign raised more campaign donations from active military than all other presidential candidates—Republican or Democrat—including having raised more funds from this segment than all other GOP competitors combined, and more than incumbent President Barack Obama.
Dr. Paul, an Air Force veteran, raised more than $75,000 from active military in the third quarter. This comes after Dr. Paul out-raised all GOP candidates – including all GOPers combined, and President Obama singularly – in the second quarter of this year. Dr. Paul also outraised his GOP competitors in a head-to-head comparison during his 2008 run for the presidency.
This determination was arrived at using an independent campaign analysis of FEC filing data focusing on contributors who listed their occupation and employer when contributing.
“Ron Paul is the only candidate with a plan to end the growing number of unconstitutional undeclared wars, having an unclear connection to U.S. national security, end costly overseas nation-building that pays no friendship dividends, and stop subsidizing global security. Instead Dr. Paul will bring our troops home, secure our borders and lead the nation in practicing a traditional Republican noninterventionist foreign policy,” said Ron Paul 2012 Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton.
“Let me also submit that Dr. Paul out-raising all candidates in military donations demonstrates that his ‘Plan to Restore America’ might sit well among voters who are active-military or veterans,” continued Mr. Benton.

Ron Paul’s Free Market Fix for Healthcare
Ron Paul on how we can substantively fix our healthcare problems:
Obama is just adding on more government…
Our problem is that we have too much government management of our healthcare…
If you want better competition and healthcare you should allow the American people to opt out of government healthcare…
When a government gets involved in an industry prices go up…
We need more competition in healthcare…
Let people have control over their own money…
Standing Above the Fray
Once again, it’s worth pointing out that all of these candidates are viciously attacking one other over each of their lackluster, big government records.
They all have them. Except one.
And that candidate continues to stand above the fray because there is nothing to attack.

The Obama Timeline | 10.20.11 @ 6:58PM
The second Rubio is chosen as the GOP's vice presidential candidate the lawsuits will fly because, like Obama and Bobby Jindal, Marco Rubio is NOT a natural born citizen. (He is only a native born citizen, as his parents were not U.S. citizens at the time of his birth.)
On the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives in 1862, Congressman John Bingham—the “father of the 14th Amendment”—stated, “All from other lands, who by the terms of [congressional] laws and a compliance with their provisions become naturalized, are adopted citizens of the United States; all other persons born within the Republic, of parents owing allegiance to no other sovereignty, are natural born citizens. Gentleman can find no exception to this statement touching natural-born citizens except what is said in the Constitution relating to Indians.” In 1866 Bingham stated, “Every human being born within the jurisdiction of the United States of parents not owing allegiance to any foreign sovereignty is, in the language of your Constitution itself, a natural born citizen.” Bingham’s definition was never disputed by other Congressmen. (Obama supporters—including attorneys filing briefs with the U.S. Supreme Court—have omitted the words “of parents” when quoting Bingham’s statement, in a shameful and intentional effort to mislead.)
In Minor v. Happersett (1875) Chief Justice of the Supreme Court C. J. Waite wrote, “The Constitution does not, in words, say who shall be natural-born citizens. Resort must be had elsewhere to ascertain that. At common-law, with the nomenclature of which the framers of the Constitution were familiar, it was never doubted that all children born in a country of parents who were its citizens became themselves, upon their birth, citizens also. These were natives, or natural-born citizens, as distinguished from aliens or foreigners. Some authorities go further and include as citizens children born within the jurisdiction without reference to the citizenship of their parents. As to this class there have been doubts, but never as to the first.”

November 2012, Obama versus Romney
Lesser of two evils? Or the leper with the fewest missing fingers?
We had better elect 60 Republicans to the U.S. Senate... It will be a vicious campaign and Obama's Axelrod and the media will leave no Mormon stone unturned.
