If non sequiturs could create jobs, an economic boom would soon
be upon us. Trying to sell Congress on his jobs agenda before the
NFL season’s opening kickoff, President Obama uncorked a combative
stemwinder filled with odd inferences and false choices.
“Sell” might be an inapt word. The president repeatedly demanded
that Congress heed his will on the grandly named American Jobs Act:
“You should pass it right away.” In this Capitol Hill campaign
rally, Obama rather transparently dared Republicans to reject his
proposal so he can run against them as a “Do Nothing Congress” next
year.
By one estimate, the stimulus package’s Mini Me consists of $260
billion in tax cuts, $140 billion in new infrastructure spending,
and $60 billion in additional unemployment insurance. The president
wants us to hire teachers like South Korea, build high-speed rail
like Communist China, and party like it’s 1999.”Should we keep tax
breaks for millionaires and billionaires?” Obama asked. “Or should
we put teachers back to work so our kids can graduate ready for
college and good jobs?”
So on the one hand, the plan cuts taxes. There is payroll tax
relief and tax credits for creating new jobs. But this is to be
paid for by raising taxes on oil companies and Americans greedy
enough to earn more than $250,000 a year, presumably on the grounds
that neither of these tax hike targets ever create jobs.
Fear not, this bill is paid for. You know, with these tax
increases. And with extra spending cuts to be determined by
Congress and the super committeee. And with a This Time We Mean It
deficit reduction plan, to be introduced later.
“The agreement we passed in July will cut government spending by
about $1 trillion over the next ten years,” Obama said. “It also
charges this Congress to come up with an additional $1.5 trillion
in savings by Christmas. Tonight, I’m asking you to increase that
amount so that it covers the full cost of the American Jobs
Act.”
A bit later we heard: “[A] week from Monday, I’ll be releasing a
more ambitious deficit plan — a plan that will not only cover the
cost of this jobs bill, but stabilize our debt in the long
run.”
This is not to say that every jot and tittle of the proposal
would be bad. The House Republican leadership was quick to put out
statements saying they could pass parts of it. But as a whole, it
lacks coherence. For Keynesians, why balance the new stimulus with
additional deficit reduction? For supply-siders, why hand out
internal revenue code-complicating tax breaks while jacking up some
taxpayers’ marginal rates?
We arrive at this destination because Recovery Summer did not
materialize and shovel-ready was, as the president later admitted,
not so shovel-ready. The unemployment rate that was never supposed
to exceed 8.5 percent broke 10 percent and remains at 9.1 percent.
The 3.5 million jobs created or saved in theory was met by a loss
of jobs in practice. And what happens when the stimulus funds run
out?
The politics are as tenuous as the economics. Overpromising yet
under-delivering has hurt Obama politically. So this time he seems
to want to overpromise and then let the Republicans
under-deliver.
But Obama isn’t a candidate running to replace George W. Bush
anymore. He is the incumbent president of the United States. If
Washington is broken, the American people have a right to ask why
he hasn’t fixed it. If the two parties can’t work together, Obama
is not merely floating above the fracas like a neutral observer. He
is the titular head of one of those two parties. If Congress has
waited too long to address the jobs crisis, then so has the fellow
living in the fancy white house on the other side of Pennsylvania
Avenue.
Liberals are happy to see the president get angry. They are
pleased he is talking about jobs rather than “austerity.” But man
cannot win by liberals alone. Obama has always given a good speech
about the brokenness of our politics. Now that he is the country’s
most famous politician, is the country still listening?
After all, the president didn’t seem eager to try his odds in a
time slot against Aaron Rodgers.
Bill Hussein O'Stalin| 9.9.11 @ 6:11AM
That was one ridiculous and unprecedentedly stupid speech full of half baked concepts, vague allusions to actual plans, outdated tax concepts which have already failed miserably and above all else he proclaimed himself the Osama Bin Laden of class warfare.
The speech contained many statements that don't hold up to the facts.
The comments about trade saving the economy were beyond ridiculous. If we had the good products people would already be flocking here to get them and export them. Unfortunately, almost all manufacturing inside our borders was forced overseas thanks to the very bureaucrats who benefit most from the taxes in the forms of salaries. Those are the same types Obama believes you should hire in greater numbers.
Obama claimed to have found over 500 regulatory reforms, yet not one was explained which indicates it's all a pipe dream and part of the overall con job. In fact, if they only found 500 they haven't tried very hard.
The basic protections that he claimed Americans have relied on and should be protected are the the lynchpins which are pulling the foundation out of the economy. Yet, here is the President claiming Albert Einstein is no scientist, i.e, “If you do the same thing every day and expect different results, that's the definition of insanity.” Apparently, Obama thinks that concept doesn't apply to him.
The speech was obviously written by someone so lost in their ideology that they still can't see the truth. The truth is the federal government has been kicking the doors down of several businesses in the last several weeks, including American guitar maker, Gibson.
Gibson Guitars was being investigated for using exotic woods even though there is ample evidence all their paperwork is straight and there was an orchestrated federal raid on the Gibson offices.
What can you take away from that? You can assume Obama is living in a glass house and can't see what' s happening as business after business is attacked by our own government or Obama is a pathological liar who is simply running another con game. The President claimed that everything in the bill would be paid for, and he's right, it will be paid for in further economic contraction which will result in fewer jobs.
While the feds are kicking in the doors of American businesses, terrorists are steadily planning more attacks on our country. It's horrible to think that the President is wasting time investigating wood peddlers while outright insane murderers are preparing mass attacks.
As far his statement about public schools and the benefits of public schools it doesn't jell with the facts. Many school systems are failing and that's after trillions have been poured into the system.
In essence, the speech summed up his socialist philosophies that America wasn't built by one person but collective effort. In fact, part of that is true but it wasn't due to collectivism but in spite of that political process.
The speech offered few real specifics. In fact, it's rather frightening that the President is so intellectually vacuous that he thinks he actually offered something of substance.
So, lift your voice, and tell the people gathered there last night, that the speech stunk and you pray to God that someone inside the beltway can come up with something that makes sense.
In short, that was one God awful speech full of hubris, bromides and worn out concepts which won't accomplish much.
And by the way, those close ups of Hillary Clinton made her look like a haggard old bitter hag. In that sense, perhaps she was an indicator that the Democrats have become bitter clingers, clinging to their outdated ideas of big government, which is their religion.
It appears that America is being attacked by two cardinal religions, Islamofascism and big government Totalitarianism. Those were the only real options offered by the President.
Michael Tomlinson| 9.9.11 @ 6:27AM
"Gibson Guitars was being investigated for using exotic woods even though there is ample evidence all their paperwork is straight and there was an orchestrated federal raid on the Gibson offices." My understanding is Gibson is pro-Republican that's why they were raided. Just another example of out-of-control Eric Holder.

BHO'S, good post as always.
Also about Gibson, what I read is the FWS (Fish & Wildlife Service) was the authority that did the raid, using a SWAT team.
I also read that Gibson did not violate any US laws, but supposedly India's laws.
Additionally, Gibson's largest competitor is a union signatory, and the top guy is pro-Obama.
I rarely watch TV news, so I don't know if this is getting any play on the alphabets, but I'd wager a dollar that it is not.
Michael Tomlinson| 9.9.11 @ 7:15AM
That's right Gibson was raided, because Obama's bro-friend and closet buddy, Eric Holder, thought Gibson was violating Indian law. Since we're now enforcing Indian law in the US I'd encourage Mexico to send a SWAT team here to arrest Eric Holder for abetting the murder of Mexican citizens by the narco terrorists he and Obama knowingly armed.

Gibson had paperwork proving the were doing legal importing (exactly the same as their non-raided competitor).
Besides, it is kind of silly for the US to enforce another countries law don't you think?

This is from last night's speech as released by the White House and this is what I heard him say:
"What kind of country would this be if this Chamber had voted down Social Security or Medicare just because it violated some rigid idea about what government could or could not do?"
Excuse me, but if you knew the man's past speeches, you would know that he is clearly referring to the Constitution.
Read this:
"Seven years before Barack Obama's "spread the wealth" comment to Joe the Plumber became a GOP campaign theme, the Democratic presidential candidate said in a radio interview the U.S. has suffered from a fundamentally flawed Constitution that does not mandate or allow for redistribution of wealth.
In a newly unearthed tape, Obama is heard telling Chicago's public station WBEZ-FM in 2001 that "redistributive change" is needed, pointing to what he regarded as a failure of the U.S. Supreme Court under Chief Justice Earl Warren in its rulings on civil rights issues in the 1960s.
The Warren court, he said, failed to "break free from the essential constraints" in the U.S. Constitution and launch a major redistribution of wealth. But Obama, then an Illinois state lawmaker, said the legislative branch of government, rather than the courts, probably was the ideal avenue for accomplishing that goal.
Read more: Obama rips U.S. Constitution http://www.wnd.com/?pageId=79225#ixzz1XT0ANWHq
He dared not say it out loud, but that is his meaning. Don't doubt me.
In 2007 I saw scans of the fliers circulated for him by the New Democrat Party in Chicago when he ran for the Illinois legislature. The New Democrats were openly and avowed socialists. They endorsed him; and they certainly cannot endorse the Constitution's protections of personal freedoms and property rights.
I am that little voice in your head telling you, 'something's wrong, something's very, very wrong.'
So listen up, call your Congressmen and ask them if they still support the Constitution they all swore to uphold!!!
Do it now, before the feds electronically drain your checking and savings accounts (It IS in the Obamacare bill-EVERY savings and checking account in any US institution is to be open to and directly accessible to the federal government.), before they legally search your property or business without a warrant (They get it later under the so-called Patriot Act), or deny you medical treatment because they don't think it's a 'good use' of limited healthcare funds. (Also in Obamacare.)
You think I'm crazy??
Look at Gibson Guitars.
Look at Fast and Furious.
Look at Eric Holder.
Where do you think they're going?
Look ahead, pay attention, your freedom is being taken...don't let them!

Obama: Constitution is 'Deeply Flawed'

A A | Email Us | Print | Forward Article Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama described the U.S. Constitution as having “deep flaws” during a September 2001 Chicago public radio program, adding that the country’s Founding Fathers had “an enormous blind spot” when they wrote it.
Obama also remarked that the Constitution “reflected the fundamental flaw of this country that continues to this day.”
Obama’s statements came during a panel discussion that aired on Chicago’s WBEZ-FM on Sept. 6, 2001, titled “Slavery and the Constitution.”
The discussion that led to the statements took place on the now-defunct Odyssey program, which also aired statements by Obama bemoaning the fact that the Civil Rights movement had failed to bring about an economic redistribution of wealth in America.
Obama’s remarks came toward the end of a somewhat professorial, academic discussion on the Constitution and the evolution of Civil Rights.
The panelists were discussing the compromise struck by the Founding Fathers to avoid a direct confrontation over slavery, as well as the adoption of the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments after the Civil War. Those amendments outlawed slavery, required “equal protection” under the law, and stated that African-Americans must be provided the right to vote.
Prior to Obama’s statement, Richard R. John, a professor of history at the University of Illinois at Chicago, said that slavery had been a significant issue for the Founding Fathers. But it was not, John stated, a matter of central importance to them.
John said it was easy to second-guess America’s Founding Fathers for establishing a government that allowed slavery to continue.
“I think it’s easy to be very hard on the Founders, and to be very hard on our governing institutions,” John said. “But I just wish we’d think about what the alternatives were, what the practical alternatives [were], and not some possible, counterfactual dreams we might have.”
At that point, the moderator of the program, Gretchen Helfrich, turned to Obama.
“Barack Obama, what are your thoughts on the Declaration and Constitution?”
“I-I-I think it’s a remarkable document –“ he began haltingly.
“Which one?” Helfrich interjected.
“The original Constitution as well as the Civil War Amendments,” he replied. “But I think it is an imperfect document, and I think it is a document that reflects some deep flaws in American culture, the Colonial culture nascent at that time.
“African-Americans were not -- first of all they weren’t African-Americans -- the Africans at the time were not considered as part of the polity that was of concern to the Framers. I think that as Richard said it was a ‘nagging problem’ in the same way that these days we might think of environmental issues, or some other problem where you have to balance cost-benefits, as opposed to seeing it as a moral problem involving persons of moral worth.
“And in that sense,” Obama continued, “I think we can say that the Constitution reflected an enormous blind spot in this culture that carries on until this day, and that the Framers had that same blind spot. I don’t think the two views are contradictory, to say that it was a remarkable political document that paved the way for where we are now, and to say that it also reflected the fundamental flaw of this country that continues to this day.”
Obama did not elaborate on the “fundamental flaw” that persists.
Conservative talk host Rush Limbaugh pounced on Obama’s remarks during his Monday radio program.
“Good Lord, ladies and gentlemen! I don’t see how he can take the oath of office, which is this: ‘I do solemly swear, or affirm, that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and I will to the best of my ability preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
Said Limbaugh, “He has rejected the Constitution.”

Way to take things out of context! It says IN THE ARTICLE YOU POSTED that Obama and Richard John were talking about the Constitution's endorsement of slavery.
It did. You all know that. It has since been amended. That's good.
He didn't say the Constitution is "deeply flawed" he said it WAS deeply flawed, in that as long as it supported slavery, it was a racist document. He said it "also reflected the fundamental flaw of this country that continues to this day." He is saying racism still exists in our society. That is also true.
There are so many legitimate beefs to have about the President; why do some of you insist on making things up?
Margie| 9.9.11 @ 2:25PM
Yeah, you could say racism still exists today~ but it's reverse discrimination now, isn't it, my friend?
Monica| 9.9.11 @ 4:58PM

Margie, if you really believe that, you don't get out much.
Shill Watch| 9.9.11 @ 7:15PM
If you don't see the effects of affirmative action it is you who don't get out much. We have taken this sorry policy to a place where a good number of folks select their president that way. By the way this bigotry is coming out of the party of discrimination, the Democratic Party and gets its power from white folks like yourself.
RCV| 9.9.11 @ 8:05PM
A good number of people have been selecting their representatives that way for many generations. It's just that a lot of people only recognize it when it appears in a different form. But if anyone thinks that antisemitism or anti-black prejudice has been wholly eliminated, they only need to read any number of posts on this site any day of the week.
Oldefarte| 9.12.11 @ 11:40AM
RCV, you can't ignorantly link anti-semitism to anti-black prejudice, since they are two distinct situations. They former is a hatred of Jews due to their historical intelligence and from same their accumulation of wealth/assets, etc; whereas the latter is a resentment of the typical laziness and ignorance of balcks for their desire to remain inslaved to governmental welfare instead of using the educational system to progress their race into income independence!!!!!!
RCV| 9.12.11 @ 6:14PM
Your post is a vivid reminder that ignorant anti-Black prejudice is alive and well. You really are a vile old man.
Oldefarte| 9.12.11 @ 11:34AM
Obviously, she get's out enough to understand that the University of Michigan Law School [and that my home town government's fire department, etc] was successfully sued for reverse discrimination, DA!!!!!!!!!!
RCV| 9.12.11 @ 7:09PM
Do you have any idea of the number of racial discrimination suits won by Black plaintiffs, even just in recent years? It DWARFS the rare kind of suit you're talking about.
Dan Hirsch| 9.9.11 @ 3:44PM
Monica,
The Constitution as originally drafted was silent on the acceptability of slavery, neither allowing or barring it. What it did do was count slaves as 3/5 of a person for the sake of apportioning Congressional representation.
This 3/5's which is often misunderstood as being a pro-slavery clause was actually anti-slavery.
If they counted slaves as 5/5's like they counted freemen, this would have increased the power of the slave states and decreased the power of the free states. That situation would have further empowered the slave states, and the slave states if they wanted, could have imported even more slaves to gain more representation over the free states.
No doubt, it is cold comfort to the great-great grandchildren of slaves, but the document really took the first skirmish to free the slaves.
Math can be so sneaky...
Don't Tread On Me.
Monica| 9.9.11 @ 4:57PM
Dan,
Thanks for the lesson on the Three-fifths Compromise, but I am already quite aware of it, thanks.
Quite interesting that you're putting yourself in the position of defending a policy that considered someone to be three-fifths of a person because of something beyond his control (that is, being a slave). And didn't the anti-slavery folks want slaves not to be counted at all for the purposes of representation? In that case, the "sneaky" math would indicate that 3/5s is certainly in favor of pro-slavery interests.
But perhaps it's more interesting to see a modern Republican defend compromise at all. I admit it; I kind of giggled.
Shill Watch| 9.9.11 @ 7:10PM

Har-dee-har-harMonica,
Update from 2011; racism in America today is almost solely against white folks.
Race has become an industry.
Millions use it to get paid by the govt. for the sins of the great-grandfathers.
Race baiters are responsible for murder and more, as they teach the non-whites how much they should be hating whitey.
They will be responsible for ushering in a new age, one in which white folks no longer care about the myth of the hobbled black man.
They keep it up, whites will develop a whole new set of well-deserved resentments against their helpless wards, the angry, resentful blacks.
And to think I took blows defending blacks against white racists years ago.
Silly me!

Hirsh, many of us agree with you in theory, but impeachment would be counter-productive to the desired solution. Impeachment would give the loones on the left the political ammunition to get him re-elected with their resultant cries of RACISM, DISENFRANCHISEMENT, DISCRIMINATION, GENTRIFICATION, etc. Waters, Hoffa, etc are already attacking the tea party movement with declarations that same/TP can GO TO HELL. What do you thingk would happen if Boehner etc tried to impeach him? The best and only solution is his defeat next year [and that of as many Democrats as possible also], not impeachment!!!!!!

I read Peter Ferrara on another website saying the Republicans "should pass corporate- and individual-tax reform, closing loopholes in return for sharply lower rates. They should pass the appropriations bills to implement the Ryan budget, which provides for highly desirable tax reform. They should pass legislation to repeal Obama’s regulatory tsunami..." After that, they should fan out across the country to explain it and sell it to the American people to put the onus on Obama and the Democratic Senate, saying if they don't sign their legislation then Obama and Dems don't care about jobs. This would be their response to Obama's "stimulus" campaign speech. I like it. Fight fire with fire, and actually fight.

For 2010, which DC insider was 1 of only 4 Republicans to violate the GOP House ban on earmarks? That year the same corrupt DC pol wanted 54 total earmarks, adding up to $398,460,640 in pork despite the ban on filing earmarks. What Republican sent 41 earmark requests totaling $157,093,544 for the 2011 Fiscal Year?
Which member of Congress constantly talks about controlling government spending, but is a leader is socking it to taxpayers so he can get hundreds of millions of taxpayer’s dollars for his pet projects? If you answered RINO neo-liberal Ron Paul you NAILED him.

Reading your letter condemning Ronald Reagan made it clear that you were a man after my heart. The only problem I have is you may think you are greater than me and that cannot be. Once you submit I will open my arms of love to you and invite you into my closet.
Peace be upon you and your mission to subvert the heretic Republican party.

"Rick Perry's dangerous Muslim compromise
Right out of the chute, of cause for deep concern is an apparently close relationship Perry has fostered over the years with a Muslim leader know as "His Highness" Prince Shah Karim Al-Husayni, the Aga Khan IV.
According to the Austin American-Statesman, Perry met Al-Husayni while vacationing with his family in Paris in 2000.
In 2002, at a dinner in Houston hosted by Al-Husayni, Perry spoke glowingly of his new friend. Since this time, Perry has continued to attend various Nizari Ismaili Muslim events and by several accounts has become a close friend of Al-Husayni and the Nizari Muslim community.
According to Kate Shellnut, a blogger for the Houston Chronicle, "Perry even laid the first brick at the groundbreaking ceremony for an Ismaili worship center in Plano in 2005."
Clint| 9.10.11 @ 5:06AM
Al-Husayni is the spiritual leader of the Shiite sect of Nizari Ismaili Muslims. Nizaris, a group with roughly 18 million adherents, believe that Al-Husayni is both the physical and spiritual descendant of Islam's prophet, Muhammad. Nizaris refer to Al-Husayni with such grandiose titles as the Imām-I-Zaman (Imam of the Age) and "the Face of Allah."
Nizaris are one of the more esoteric and mystical sects of Islam. Nizaris refer to Allah by unique and odd terms such as "the black light" and "the luminous night." Though Nizaris believe that Allah is utterly unknowable, they believe that through mystical meditation, shadows of what is to come can be glimpsed. Nizaris are also known for being deeply committed to Islamic causes of social justice.
Besides being the spiritual leader of the millions of Nizari Muslims, Al-Husayni is also wildly rich. One report has placed his personal value at roughly $800 million, but he also controls a vast network of businesses, organizations and schools, including the Aga Khan Development Network, or AKDN, one of the largest "private development networks" in the world. The AKDN and its network of Islamic organizations and charities distribute well over half-a-billion dollars each year."

obama talks of 'challenges' that must be met by congress, even as He is the biggest roadblock to achieving anything.
The current House faces a wasteland of destruction otherwise known as obamagenda. It's hard to know what exactly 'should be passed right away' when obama awaits with his veto and Reid & Dems still control the senate.

Here is a perfect time for the GOP presidential hopefuls to turn the tables on Obama regarding Social Security. Which one of our candidates will out the president for once again raiding Social Security of billions of dollars by extending the payroll tax cuts? I suspect none of them will – an unholy alliance between the left and the right to screw seniors.
The same can be said about the free trade sellout that Obama and the GOP are selling -- instead of American job gains you can bet hidden in this agreement is more outsourcing of our dwindling manufacturing base along with good paying American jobs -- both Parties screwing Main Street.

Paging John II ... Paging John II...
Sounds like a line out of 'Heartbreak Ridge' to me.
I for one am glad for the speech and its plan, which cements the one term status of the dithering idiot liar in chief of downgrade. If the dithering idiot liar in chief of downgrade had presented a serious plan, the reelection of the dithering idiot liar in chief of downgrade may have actually been seriously considered by a significant portion of the electorate. The dithering idiot liar in chief of downgrade has rendered that possibility moot. Be grateful the dithering idiot liar in chief of downgrade is too stupid and too dishonest to know any better.
Unlike the Eastwood line, there is absolutely no confusion on the 'Prevaricator in Chief' line.
I challenge anyone and everyone to find just three words that better describe the dithering idiot liar in chief of downgrade.
It might be a fun, entertaining, and theraputic exercise.
'America's largest-ever embarrassment'? Is the hyphen cheating? Does the truth of the line overcome any grammatical flaw? There are some incredible wits at this site. The list of three word phrases describing the dithering idiot liar in chief could truly be impressive.

My favorite line, paraphrasing off the top of my head:
'Are we gonna let millionaires and billionaires continue to get tax breaks - or are we gonna pay the teachers who will teach our kids so they can get an education - we can't do both - this isn't about class warfare.'
1) millionaires and billionaires are those earning $250 thousand, before taxes - or is it $200 thousand
2) why can't it be both and why is it either /or isn't explained
3) money thrown at education since Carter has increased exponentially, correlating with the decreased academic performance of American students - they obviously need more
4) the liar stated it is not about class warfare - in the same breath
5) the idiot, having increased the debt four trillion already, is telling the nation if must increase it another 10% - immediately
6) this increase, that must be enacted now, not Monday, was first hinted at on an election campaign bus tour, which continued for days before an eleven day Martha's Vinyard vacation, which ended with hurricane Irene, or was it Rita, or Ivan, or Katrina - or was it Camille - its been so long ago I can't remember
7) Keynsian economics exacerbated the great depression, has never worked, and will never work - for reasons having to do with a thing known as 'reality' - what we need to do not now, but yesterday, is more of it
8) the soundbite of Cantor on all the networks being played is awesome because he expresses bewilderment anyone much less the president could be such an idiot as to give that speech with that plan - so naturally you use him to - LOOK! A SQUIRREL!
9) you RCV might as well be president; there would be no detectable difference in intelligence or honesty
10) just as perplexing as this idiot elected to the world's most powerful position is why you never tire of revealing what an idiot you are
11) you are stupid
12) your absolute unquestionable stupidity does not overshadow in any way your dishonesty
13) I'm astounded your initials don't stand for something appropriate like 'reprobate charlatan vomitus' - because you are such a douchebag and such an asswipe

RCV is a douchebag asswipe because of this post for example:

The douchebag asswipe RCV provided the capitalized emphasis of the word 'after'.
RCV is a douchebag asswipe because of this post for example:

If you are supportive of the tea party the douchebag asswipe RCV states that he abhors your conservatism, states you are wholly lacking in intelligence, states you are wholly lacking in real Christian love, states you are wholly lacking in compassion, states the policies you support are dangerous to America, states the policies you support are damaging America, and states the policies you support are so bad they will disappear.

RCV| 9.10.11 @ 1:53PM
I love and admire Saint Paul greatly. Unlike Margie, I don't confuse him with God. Margie attacks Catholics for venerating Mary, and insists that she is just a sinning imperfect human being like every other one of us, but fails to recognize that the same is true of Paul.
Jesus was the only perfect human being - true God and true Man.
Margie| 9.10.11 @ 2:38PM
Sad that you must lie.
Leftists call speaking the truth to lies, hatred.
When I tell someone that Mary is dead, it's a fact. When I tell someone that God is against prayer to the dead, it's a fact.
And I never said Mary was "sinning" inferring a lifestyle of same, I said what the Bible simply states, that we are ALL sinners, in need of God's forgiveness of same.
To tell the truth to people that are being purposefully led astray by a man in a robe proclaiming himself to be Christ on Earth, it is what God commands me to do as a Christian~ to preach His Gospel~ the biblical one.
To tell people that homosexuality is sin is also right~ it is against God. You simply choose rebellion against God to say otherwise.
You really need to stop being so disingenuous.
As to Paul~ I also never indicated that he was nothing but a sinner, often quoting his own words to that effect~ he himself said he was the foremost of sinners~ but he was appointed by God to be an Apostle, RCV~ this you know. Yet YOU are the one who rejects his words.
And then you end it all with saying that Jesus was the only perfect human being... and you don't even see how that would include Mary?
LOL.
p.s. Jesus Himself said He didn't even consider Himself good, but God alone:
"And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone." Mk. 10:18.
He has the final say, wouldn't you think?
See what happens when you aren't honest?
No one can play games with His Words.. it simply doesn't work!
RCV| 9.10.11 @ 5:37PM
And you lied when you said I didn't like St Paul, which started this exchange. Of course, Mary is imperfect. She was a human being. A human being who gave birth to Jesus Christ and was His mother. Do you deny that? Do you deny that Jesus Christ was God?

Are you insane?

You personally do not equate the words of Paul with the words of Jesus, even though Jesus sent Paul out to speak for him to every Jew and nonJew alike, despite spending your life reading and studying the Bible, which includes Acts 9:15.
You personally believe Jesus set us free from the law, based on Jesus telling us of the greatest commandment, despite spending your life reading and studying the Bible, which includes Matthew 5:17.
No wonder you are a stupid idiot, er, liberal.
God and His church is separated from the United States of America, especially mangers and crosses on public property, and even if it isn't, Christ took this curse of the law away from us.
Environmentalism, Globalism, Redistribution, Socialism, and all the rest, these are not other gods, and even if they were, Christ took this curse of the law away from us.
Coerced redistribution is God's will, and any way you look at it charity plain and simple, and even if it is using God's name in vain, Christ took this curse of the law away from us.
Separation of church and state, now there's a commandment with some teeth, holy day schmoly day, and even if it isn't, Christ took this curse of the law away from us.
Homosexuality, this is honoring your father and father or mother and mother, which is the same thing, and even if it it isn't, Christ took this curse of the law away from us.
Abortion is not murder, and even if it is, it's only 55 million or so, and Christ took this curse of the law away from us.
Homosexuality isn't even committing adultery, don't get me started on the plight of the minor attracted, and even if it is, Christ took this curse of the law away from us, twice now, so it is definitely God's will, for sure.
Coerced redistribution isn't even stealing, and even if it is, Christ took this curse of the law away from us, twice now, so it is definitely God's will, for sure.
Class warfare, evil greedy rich, racists, teabaggers, and all the rest, these are not lying about your neighbor, and even if it is, Christ would agree with us, but regardless Christ took this curse of the law away from us.
Coerced redistribution is God's will cut and dried, covet schmovet, we need to take the wealth from the evil rich, right now, this is the third time redistribution has been addressed, it is officially sanctified, and even if it isn't, Christ took this curse of the law away from us.
Christ freed us from the curse of the law.
Christ became a curse for us.

Here, let me spell it out for you, Skip:
'"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?' and he said to him, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all you heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'. On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets. ". 22 Matt. 37-40.
"For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, " You shall love your neighbor as yourself.". " 5 Gall. 14.
The whole thrust of St Paul's great epistles is his explanation of how Christ was "the end of the law.".
"Now before faith came, we were confined under the law, kept under restraint until faith should be revealed. So that the law was our custodian until Christ came, that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a custodian.". 3 Gall. 24-25. "But now we are discharged from the law, dead to that which held us captive, so that we serve not under the old written code but in the new life of the spirit.". 7 Rom. 6.
Does your Bible end withe Old Testament?
RCV| 9.10.11 @ 9:55PM

"Think not that I have come to abolish the Law and the Prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfil them.
For truly, I say to you, till Heaven and Earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.
Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these Commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven." Mt. 5:17-19.
RCV~ one of the reasons you don't like the Apostle Paul is because of his stance against sin. Namely, homosexuality, which you have excused here in your postings before.
You always defend it. This is what I mean about picking and choosing which parts of the Bible you obey. But God doesn't allow us to do that. This is why He bluntly stated above, that we as Christians are to keep the Commandments, and by the Grace of God. Only through abiding in Christ is that possible for any of us.
Some use the Bible to excuse taking sin lightly, but it isn't going to work.
That's the "Social gospel." It isn't the true gospel.
RCV| 9.10.11 @ 10:09PM
Once again, Margie, it is a lie that I "don't like the Apostle Paul.". He was one of history's greatest men, and greatest thinkers. God chose him well to spread his Gospel. He was an organizational genius, and got the essence of Christ's sacrifice, freeing us from sin and death, freeing us from detailed written codes of behavior that were laid out to regulate our lives before his Grace, achieved through faith in Him, freed us.
And though I revere Paul as one of history's great men, I also recognize his humanity, his weaknesses, including adherence to the prejudices of his day. (Just as I revere Thomas Jefferson, another of history's great men, while acknowledging the fact that he was a slaveowner, a man of his time's prejudices.)
RCV| 9.10.11 @ 10:17PM
We both know by now that you and I have different understandings of the Bible: what it is, how it came to be written, how it was meant to be used, and whether every word of it is inerrant. I do my best to use the reasoning and intellectual curiosity that God gave me to understand everything I can about Christ, about His Church, about the history of what we call scripture and what it means. I don't doubt your sincerity in the conclusions you have reached. In studying and praying over my 64 years, I've come to different conclusions than you. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....................
Margie| 9.11.11 @ 2:45PM
RCV,
When and if you ever truly humble yourself and come to Christ (His way), and ask Him for His Spirit, then you will understand and agree with God and His every Word.
Until then you will remain groping in the darkness for excuses and justifications as to why you must pick and choose which parts of the Bible are "true" or not.
I pray that God opens your (spiritual) eyes.
Coming to Christ means you acknowledge that you're an utterly bereft and sinful human being, it means confessing to Him that you're a failure and a big fat zero.
It means giving control of your life over to Him, and making your will His will.
This is the only way and these are the only ones He came for: The lost.
"For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost." Lk. 19:10.
Do you think you are lost? We all are truly lost.
"Every Word of God proves true; He is a Shield to those who take refuge in Him. Prov. 30:5.
The Words of Jesus are so true, as I've learned in my own life:
"I am the Vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.
If a man does not abide in Me, he is cast forth as a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire and burned.
If you abide in Me, and My Words abide in you, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you.
By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.
As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you; abide in My love.
If you keep My Commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in his love." Jn. 15:5-10.
You see, RCV, I've just given you God's own Words, His gospel, that of Jesus Christ.
Those Words are Truth, and in them He reveals how anyone who wishes to be in Christ, must be.
And you see from the two verses I posted, where He says He didn't come to get rid of the Law, but that we must keep the Commandments, that that is so.
But how? How can sinful people like me and you do that?
This is the miracle that is above all miracles! The way to be able to keep His Commandments is by abiding in Him, like He says.
But how?
Well, look at verse 3 in the same chapter:
"You are already made clean by the Word which I have spoken to you."
What does that mean? Isn't it amazing? The Words that Jesus spoke to them made them clean.
And verse 26:
"But when the Counselor comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, He will bear witness to me.."
You see, God gives Man the Holy Spirit, and he is changed. Enabled, empowered supernaturally, to keep His Commandments.
"Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." Jn. 3:5 & 6.
Religion teaches Salvation by works~ being "good" etc., but God says no one is good. Even Jesus said it:
"And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone." Lk. 18:19.
There's no such thing as being good enough to be saved. Nice flowery words and/or good deeds are as filth before God's Holiness.
"We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away." Is. 64:6.
We're ALL ruined by sin, ever since Adam.
If it WERE the case that we could be redeemed by our works, then the cross of Christ would be null & void!
Jesus's suffering on the cross and becoming Sin who knew no Sin did indeed cancel the bond which stood against us with its legal demands (Col. 2:14).
But as He says, we are to still keep the Commandments (His Words, not mine!!)
But since God is Spirit, we must worship Him in spirit:
"God is Spirit, and the ones worshiping
Him must worship in spirit and truth." Jn. 4:24.
But how? How can we? Not by being Religious, or by going to church, but by the power of becoming born of the Holy Spirit:
"The wind blows where it wills, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know whence it comes or whither it goes; so it is with every one who is born of the Spirit." Jn. 3:8.
See that! God teaches that we need to be born of His Spirit. Does your Religion teach what He does?
Because of Jesus' sacrificial death and Resurrection, the Apostles and disciples and every one since Pentecost who were called by God, have received His Spirit, by the Grace of God.
One may ask Him humbly for this miracle (more than a miracle). As it's written:
"If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in Heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!" Lk.11:13.
From the point where one goes ahead and asks God for His Spirit, with humble heart and confession of sinfulness, and a willingness to submit their lives to Him, they become a child of God.
"But to all who received Him, who believed in His Name, he gave power to become children of God;
who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God." Jn. 1:12 & 13.
You see, it isn't about Religion, it is about a New Covenant. One in which we are enabled by the Spirit of God to abide in Christ Jesus.
It is greater than any physical miracle, as it renews the sinful human being and cause them to be able to truly reflect the Glory of God and keep His Commandments as He originally intended when He created Mankind~ before the Fall of Adam.
"For by Grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God--
not because of works, lest any man should boast.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." Eph. 2:8-10.
First comes being saved, born of His Spirit, becoming a child of God, in order to walk in the good works that He already prepared for us to do!

Margie - thank you sincerely for that beautiful expression of Christian faith, which I know and cherish and which my Church teaches and I acknowledge.
One thing that strikes me when you write is the apparent dichotomy you seem to draw between "God" and "Jesus". You do know, I trust, that there is only one God, and that Jesus - the Alpha and the Omega - is and always has been God. In the person of Jesus, who was God incarnate, God came to his creation, to live and die as one of us, and by His own sacrifice, reconcilled us to Him, and took away our sins and gave us the free offering of eternal life.
God is One, manifest in three forms or persons - the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

ObaMao thought that he was shrewd in slipping in a demand for nearly half a trillion dollars that he could not coerce Boehner into accepting at the last minute during the "grand bargain" debt-ceiling negotiations.
This "must-pass 'jobs'plan'" is nothing more than a slush fund for his union supporters. It is a temporary bandage trying to stem a bleeding economic artery.
I find it ironic that the Dem hero, JFK, had a brother Bobby Kennedy serving as AG, who aggressively went after goonion leaders through RICO laws. Obama, on the other hand, gives these racketeers place of honor in a joint-session speech in Congress’s chambers or proudly shares a stage with them at the Detroit Labor Day campaign rally.
JP| 9.9.11 @ 8:37AM
Congress won't be able to pass this bill in toto. The Super Committe, in and of itself, is marginally constitutional. Congress, because it lacks the political will, has decided to govern by committee; there's been alot of committees lately. And committees eventually stop governing and begin ruling. This new Gang of 12 is constructed to get nothing done - Pelosi has seen to that.
In any event, this new Gang of 12 already was tasked to come up with $1 trillion in new spending reductions. The President just added another half trillion. And who thought all new spending bills begin in the House. The President most probably believes his job is done; he can return to the golf courses, parties, and campaign fundraisers. He and his minions believe that they have now successfully punted the ball into Boehner and Cantor's hands. Again, the gotacha is now in play. I seriously doubt that Boehner has the votes to get his thing through.

Didn't listen to the speech at all. Watched college football, instead (two teams that I don't really care about). Really tired of seeing the Big O's face on TV, and hearing his teleprompted voice. When he and Michelle appeared at the World Series, that was it for me. Like a true liberal, he has to have his face everywhere; a lot like the pictures everywhere in Russia of Lenin during their communist days. Also like a true liberal, he believes that problems are solved by talking. He has talked publicly so much in the last 2.5 years that I can't stand the sound of his voice now (used to think he had a nice speaking voice). He needs to disappear, to not be seen or heard from for the next year-and-a-half. Then, folks won't be so sick of seeing and hearing him.

"A liberal is a person who pretends to a lofty rationality as a kind of veneer to cover fiercely resentful passions, which leak out constantly in the form of crazed projections revelatory of ignorance, arrogance, and a certain dogged stupidity that encompasses an odd fascination with violence. In public policy, this aspect of liberalness translates into the morally and intellectually bankrupt habit of doing the same failed thing again and again and again.
In short, as a dog returns to his vomit, so the liberal returns to his folly. (cf. Proverbs 26:11)"
~
This quote, provided by a regular poster here at American Spectator, who is universally admired and respected, exemplifies the definition of the epitome of a liberal.
If only there was a liberal, who regularly posts here at American Spectator, whose posts consistently feigns to these pompous justifications, used to conceal these tempestuously bitter emotions, which escapes out incessantly in these manifestations of deranged impulses, indicative of this worthlessness, haughtiness, and this inevitable tenacious absurdity that comprises this queer fetish with cruelty, who could be used as the ideal example of this definition.
And if only there was a liberal event, a pathetic and despicable event signifying governmental impoverished ruin, such as a recent highly touted speech, that this ideal example of a liberal has been touting, that illustrates this definition, including this behavior quoted in the scripture from the Bible.

President Obama in last night's speech said over and over again "The Congress should pass this bill." First the "bill" is not yet written. His speech is still just a speech. Second saying " I am asking the Congress to pass this bill" sounds less combative than his words. Third his admonition that he will go to the people combined with his combative wording suggests he intends to use "Community Activist Techniques," meaning he will call for protests from unions and Acorn types. He may go further and incite riots in places like Detroit, Chicago and L.A. This community activism is already in progress in many cities but the disturbances are generally not being reported by the Main Stream Media.

Doing stupid things is not what is needed. Stimulus and tax hikes are not what is called for while dropping into another recession. We should have never repeated Japan's lost decade but Obama and his left wing pals couldn't resist. Obama's ideas have failed wherever tried. Government must become smaller. ObamaCare and the ridiculous number of regulations have to go. We need to push the environmentalist Luddites aside and harvest our natural resources. It is time for the Senate to reconsider Paul Ryan's or Rand Paul's budget ideas. We also need to consider major tax code overhaul to encourage productive behavior. Our reason for repeating Japan was that most Americans, including many republicans, couldn't accept that their lottery winnings from the real estate boom were fictitional paper. They refused to accept that they should sell their house for less than 2006 prices.
So the fed pumped in trillions of dollars to the banks to keep them from foreclosing on people who haven't paid their mortgages in years. Instead of money going to jobs either through the private economy or even through a less efficient keynsian measure, the money instead went to prop up housing that's just waiting to correct, again.
I know many people who would like to buy a home, but are waiting for prices to correct but sellers are saying that they are entitled to double their money. Okey dokey. We'll leave the money in the bank at 1% interest.

Then the other shoe dropped and he went right back to his old litany of "and now the rich must pay their fair share." So, given that people who make more than $150,000.00 a year in income pay something like 85% of the taxes in the country, how much more will they have to pay in taxes before the Obama Administration says they're paying their fair share?
How about the 50% of Americans who don't pay any income taxes at all? How about those Americans who get "tax refunds" when they haven't paid any taxes at all? What would the Obama Administration call THEIR fair share?

My grandson graduated UCDavis last year with a double major and excellent grades, He optimistically sent out resumes and enjoyed a couple of months "vacation" . Time wore on. More resumes.
As things were not looking bright, he took a "muscle" job, starting at midnight on the wholesale Produce Market , driving a forklift. Next he was offered a later starting job - 3 AM, which he does currently, driving a produce delivery truck for a supermarket. He loads it, he drives it. And in the afternoon, he lifeguards at the local pool. Between the two, he makes pretty good money - - but not due to any job created by Resident Obama.
He still sends out resumes. Has turned down several jobs that pay less than he is making doing what he is doing.
He has many friends who have not found jobs of any kind. Oh, one girl graduate got herself a summer job at Jama Juice. Four years at an expensive school and you wind up grinding oranges, mangoes and exotic grasses into a paper cup.

Well GD AMERICA! Wake up people! McCain [& RINOS/CINOS] didn't cause 15-25% unemployment, $trillions in wasteful government spending on welfare to his constituents, regulations that are strangling provate businesses to bankruptcy, governmental lawsuits against individual states over immigration, governmental attacks against political opponents, etc. Guess who did so? Did the Paulistas her possibly pull a Ron Paul in 2008 by [since their candidate lost the Republican nomination] voting for this current president [and therefore are they so ashamed of causing this country's current demise under this liberalism by Democrats]? MILLIONAIRES & BILLIONAIRES....What a joke [when this country is on the verge of bankruptcy]. I know Democrats are typically stupid and demonic, but are Paulistas equally so? Did they possibly cause this current mess [as members of independent voters who elected this current president] and are trying to hide their embarrassment over same by shouting about RINOS/CINOS???????????

It is astounding to read the NEW YORK TIMES saying something TRULY POSITIVE about Sarah Palin.
I'm telling you, she's running.
Is there anyone else in politics who could have penetrated the walls of the NYT?
I couldn't imagine anyone. Not even R W Reagan.
Sarah's sharp as General Patton, most opponents never even see her coming!
Don't Tread On Me.
Oldefarte| 9.9.11 @ 4:49PM
I really don't think she'll run, and am partially doubtful that she's completely qualified to do so. Initially, I was of the opinion of many that she needed to hunker down in a library etc and become more knowledgable concerning issues both domestic and foreign [which I don't think she has done]. Instead she appears to be more concerned with petty sniping at reporters etc [which is silly and insignificant]. She has no political operation established that would be needed for a presidential run [Todd etc ain't gonna cut it]. I think she's simply selling books or herself at present. As Reagan did via radio before becoming president, she needs to make speeches, issue policy pronouncements etc to demonstrate her knowledge and thus garner potential votes. If she did run, the SNL type skits making fun of her would be substantially destructive to her cause!!!!!
Dan Hirsch| 9.9.11 @ 10:56PM
old farty one;
You didf not read the article I linked to. The New York Times published in print an article describing Sarah Palin's recent Tea Party speech in an unmistakably, almost embarrassed tone of appreciation for the insights she offered on our body politic as it is today.
It was shocking - I might even say that the NYT author would not agree with your ill-informed opinion of her.
Homework works better when you actually do it.

Okay Hirsh, you want a piece of me, let's get it one! Her editorial idea that '.... The good ones, in her telling, are those small businesses that take risks and sink and swim in the churning market; the bad ones are well-connectemegacorporations that live off bailouts, dodge taxes and profit terrifically while creating no jobs....' is BS! Are you/her going to try and ignorantly proclaim that big corporations do not creat jobs, do not pay employee benefits, do not provide vast incomes to millions of their employees, their customers, their suppliers, etc within the economic theory of the MULTIPLYER EFFECT OF INCOME EXPANSION? Are you/she that stupid, and if so, you had better take/re-take some financial/economic college courses perhaps? Do you/she propose that instead small type businesses are the only ones that do such things [and if so, that's stupid as well]? Does a flower shop employing 10 people create as much wealth as say Chase Bank in NYC with thousands of employees? What a dumb f*&king; idea that is!!!!!!

cicero| 9.9.11 @ 4:33PM
Sorry I got into this one a bit late, but I want to go back to the comment that the issue of slavery is not dealt with in the Constitution. Article I, Section 9 gives the states until 1808 to admit the imported slaves. After that, the importation of slaves into the U.S. was prohibited. That did not abolish the institution itself, but only the importation. At that time, Great Britain and the U.S. began patrolling the sea lanes off of the African coast, and basically shut down the importation of slaves into the U.S. and the colonies of Great Britain .
The beauty of the old document is that it can deal with all the problems of an overbearing government, if we use it al intended. Most of the amendments, after the first 10 would not have been necessary, if the document were merely read as written. For instance, the 14th, 15th and 19th would have been obviated if the courts had merely reccognized that blacks and women were citizens.

Thank you, Occam's Tool - - I am not worried about my grandson. He is working, which is more than most of his friends are. Besides, I cannot tell you how many PhD taxi drivers there are in Santa Barbara. Makes an interesting ride to the airport, but the driver's seat is not exactly a lectern.
My grandson has no student loans to pay, because my son knew the day he was born, his son was going to need a college education and started saving. The day he graduated, there was no mortgage on his diploma. He actually declined job offer at a computer company, because it didn't pay as much as he was making hauling produce. Sometimes "white collar" is the only thing you can say for a white collar job.
Until things lighten up a bit there is something to be said for getting wholesale produce to a retail store. It can only be done one way. It can't be outsourced to Indonesia. And he is not sitting home on the couch texting his out of work friends.
We are not dismayed, second grandson just started college. He will graduate just when Obama is booted out of his second term. Never underestimate the stupidity of the average voter.
What we really need to worry about is, that we took the IDIOT CENSUS in November 2008 and Resident Obama was the result. It could happen again. But not with the youth vote, this time. Unions, Hispanics and Blacks - - we had better start pushing for Voter I.D.

Rick -
My son belongs to a union and resents his 30 years of union dues supporting candidates he would not vote for. Unions do that to their members. Its a protection racket. They are in the business of going into arbitration to save the job of some sorry worker who ought to be fired for attendance, tardiness, theft, etc. I have sat in or and taken notes on many a hearing . It is often easier to keep a slug on payroll than to spend the time in firing him. Most of the shop stewards I knew at the airline I worked for, were a near criminal class of thugs, on the constant prowl for some imagined transgression to investigate. Good workers don't need a union; shiftless ones cannot do without one. the same with teachers - good ones don't need tenure, poor ones cannot survive without it.
It is not racist to say Hispanics will give their vote to a candidate who has dreamed up the Dream Act and is opposed to voter I.D. I have sympathy for Hispanic immigrants - they are the poorest of the poor, leaving a country they would prefer to live in but cannot because of the corrupt government who has no interest in their welfare. But I do not want them influencing an election they do not have the legal right to participate in. And choosing my president for me. If the landscaper who takes care of my property and all of his workers are citizens , they have as much right as I do to vote - but if half of them are illegal, I don't even care if he is paying them off the books, that is not my business - but they should not vote.
If it won't give you a severe headache and you have an explanation as to why it is racist to expect a voter to be a citizen in order to cast a vote in the United States, I would be glad to try to decipher it. To bolster your case, try going to Mexico City and voting for president. Let me know how you made out.
Poor blacks are congenitally Democrats and will cast their dying vote for a Democrat, even though history has shown them the party does nothing for them. Welfare is worse enslavement than true slavery was. Welfare drains the soul of ambition. One would think, if you didn't have to work for a living, you might go to adult education classes and make yourself employable. I have taken a few adult ed. courses just for amusement - granted I wasn't going to find them in a watercolor class - but I didn't see any going to the computer class across the way. I am sure there is some bleeding heart explanation for this - - they don't have transportation, they have no one to keep their babies - - "they doesn't know nuthin' about machinery. . ." .
Colin Powell, who has no investment in the "down for the struggle" thing, being a Caribbean, voted for Obama once and states he probably would not again. Is he a born-again racist?
I would vote for Cain if he had a prayer to win or Thomas Sowell, just because I admire his writings or Shelby Steele - - read Steele's WHITE GUILT, a good explanation as to why Obama is (P)Resident today. I did not and would not vote for Barack Obama because he is a "shuck and jiver" and that is all he is. People who have worked for him say he has no interest in the work of being president; that he is only interested in campaigning .
martin j smith| 9.10.11 @ 8:09AM
I realize this is pure nonsense on many levels but suppose this is offered to Obama: You want us to pass legislation--then you put a bill IN WRITING that YOU take responsibility for and WE will debate it in Congress. In exchange:
We will give YOU a list of all REGULATIONS that WE want lifted. Is this not fair ?
martin j smith| 9.10.11 @ 8:15AM
One other thing: No matter how much nonsense Obama gives us, in my view a vast number of voters do not vote with their brains--they vote based on their anxiety, fear etc dictated by their situation in the economy. The trick is on one hand to address these fears and anxieties in a way that gives voters the idea that the "other side" will offer something that makes sense to them and at the same time will not only be politically valid but valid for the improvement of our economic situation. Pointing out the failures of Obama's policies is not enough. I think we will have to go thru many transitionary periods before we reach some signs of stability. Of course one sure sign of stability would be a marked decrease in unemployment levels ( real numbers not the fake ones we are given ).
beebop| 9.10.11 @ 10:22AM
'An interview with a few "executives" is not very instructive. As a business manager at a small non-profit, I think differently. Half of our payroll tax is a savings we could use to hire at least a part-time worker or give a part-time position full-time. I'll take what I can get at this point in our economy.
Also, is the idea here that we shouldn't do anything because nothing will make a difference very helpful?'
This comment is what poses as "intelligent" in response to a column in the New York Times. I hope and trust that no one on our side thinks this is a convincing argument.

What would be appropriate is to quit inventing new terms for terrorists - such as "man-caused disasters" and "home-grown terrorists" Home grown is a term for the prize tomatoes you lovingly coaxed from seedlings, not the second generation U.S. hating-Islamists we have right here in California or the the black inmates who become Muslims in prison. How about that madrassa (sp?) back in Virginia? They are not pledging allegiance to the United States of America every morning after they haul up off of their prayer rugs.
What would be appropriate is to stop frisking in the most personal way, my 82 year old retired Army brother and my blond, blue-eyed 9 year old grandson - when they fly, while allowing swarthy types with black beards waved through because it would be "profiling" to stop them just because they look just like the 9/11 terrorists.
What would be appropriate is, when our troops are brought home from Afghanistan, station them on the Texas, NM and AZ borders to stop all tourists on foot.. They aren't all Mexican. Everyone knows that . Everyone but that fat frog, Janet Napolitano.
We are not "home-growing" them - - our lovely garden is just in bad need of weeding.
Impeachment was what was done to Bill Clinton. You need a conviction and a sentence after that.
Isn't treason and allegiance to Islam over the United States a little more serious than sperm on a blue dress?

martin j smith| 9.11.11 @ 8:07AM
Today obviously being 9/11 is a trying day for me--I was there--at least within a stones throw of there and saw all too much. I had to walk six or more miles thru mobs of people covered with dust many disoriented trying to get home or somewhere. Many were missing and some of those were among the dead. In NYC Mayor
or is it CEO Micheal Bloomberg arranged a politically tasteful memorial. I think the people attending for the most part do not give a crap about the Mayor's PC or Obama's PC. They know the deal that this was an attack ( not a "tradgedy ")
by an enemy comprised of Islamic Radicals. In the crowd will be people of all political views. But at least in private the rhetoric will be replaced with fear and anger at our vulnerability .
It is very sad for me to say that we have a President who tries constantly to divide us. We have media that does the same thing. They will fail because --and perhaps this is more of a hope than a reality--the people ( meaning the citizens ) of this country are not self destructive. Evidence is coming in every day that people are waking up even is District 9 in NYC--remember the weinee ?
His seat is up for grabs and the Repub has a good shot at winning. Things are changing and the small percentage of LEFT MARXIST RADICALS
are starting to crap in their pants. You can see some of that in the trolls that post. I think this small group is a lost cause but they must be monitored and exposed for who they are--to be ignored, to be marginalized and if they are involved in illegal activities to be treated accordingly. If they are not US citizens and arrested--Deported as person non grata.
As for the discussion of Obama and jobs--I will repeat--Our economy is our national security. Obama as is well know has NO INTENTION OF WORKING WITH THE PRIVATE SECTOR and that is the majority of US citizens. It is my view that unless he comes up with a plan that shows that he is the president of ALL OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA--not only his friends and little fiefdom --he should be IMPEACHED for failure to address our very survival.
Finally a comment on GWB's speech in Pennsylvania yesterday at the flight 93 memorial.
I thought overall it was a wonderful speech. There are occasions where this guy can show he has the "right stuff" and he did at this time. Many of you know that I have serious problems with GWB but in this case I am grateful for the sentiments he offered. I wish Obama could show such class.
