The Lightworker Falls to Earth

So much for ushering in “a new way of being on the planet.”

“From Lincoln to Obama,” CNN headlined one of its stories during the early days of euphoria over the new president. Obama encouraged the comparison, tossing out such modest asides as Lincoln made “my story possible.” For others, Obama loomed even larger than Lincoln. He was a “Lightworker,” as San Francisco Chronicle columnist Mark Morford put it in 2008, “that rare kind of attuned being who has the ability to lead us not merely to new foreign policies or health care plans or whatnot, but who can actually help usher in a new way of being on the planet, of relating and connecting and engaging with this bizarre earthly experiment.”

Now that the Lightworker has fallen to earth and the glorious new way of being on the planet turns out to be a lowered credit rating, some of his prominent supporters have fallen silent or resentful. Heady Lincoln comparisons have given way to Carter comparisons, sotto voce: “We are watching him turn into Jimmy Carter right before our eyes,” an anonymous Democratic Senator said to New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd.

To the Richard Cohens of the press, he is no longer cool but cold. It is now safe for them to say that he lacks any special gift for “leadership.” Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank acidly observed about his speech on Monday, “He delivered his statement on the economy beneath a portrait of Abraham Lincoln, but that was as close as he came to forceful leadership.”

While they decry the “obstructionism” of the Tea Party, they condemn Obama for not displaying obstructionism of his own. The issue of his inexperience has once again resurfaced, at the very moment this week’s loss of SEALs in Afghanistan dims the accomplishment of killing Bin Laden that had put, so Obama thought, concerns about his inexperience to rest.

A turbulent stock market has added to his troubles. His speech on Monday about the credit downgrade accelerated rather than arrested the slide. His protestation that the U.S. “always will be a triple-A country” was hardly reassuring, a line to be remembered only for its feebleness. He has managed to make America sound like a minor league team.

Obama considers the credit downgrade a consequence not of the debt itself but of the debate about the debt. Yet the Treasury Department’s triumphant discovery of a $2 trillion “error” in the math of Standard & Poor’s belies that analysis: Were the size of the debt not the fundamental reason for the downgrade, why would that error even matter? Moreover, if “political dysfunction” had the power to scare Standard & Poor’s into lowering the credit rating, why did Obama and company stoke that fear by describing the Tea Party as a collection of hostage-takers and terrorists? Why didn’t White House officials, as sudden experts on the rationale of S&P’s scoring, anticipate the possibility of a “political dysfunction” downgrade and tone down their rhetoric?

The “Tea Party downgrade” claim is the sort of desperately superficial explanation one would expect from pols who consider the appearance of solving problems to be more crucial than the reality of solving them. Blaming the Tea Party for America’s lower credit rating is like “blaming firemen for fires,” as Senator Rand Paul puts it.

Yet to the chattering class, America’s fundamental weakness is not staggering debt but the absence of an easygoing style of bipartisanship that accepts it. “We can always print money” to pay our debts, as Alan Greenspan says. The critics of the Tea Party didn’t want a dime cut from the budget and are in fact calling for a resurgence of Keynesianism — a “massive second stimulus” and so on. “Jobs,” not debt, is the issue, they say, and government hiring is the answer. Perhaps if Obama added a few more trillions of dollars to the debt through a second stimulus America could one day enjoy the low unemployment rates once seen in Communist countries.

It used to be just a metaphor to say America is going the way of Rome. Now it can be said literally, as the U.S. moves toward European-levels of debt. As promised by his starry-eyed supporters, Obama has indeed ushered in a new America, but it looks more and more like the legacy of a lightweight than a “Lightworker.”

Well., maybe, not the Planet. But he is DEFINATELY trying to "Usher in a new way of being in" THIS COUNTRY.
No longer will we be exceptional. (But, then, if you ask him? We never were, anyway.)
We will be JUST like Venezuela. JUST like Cuba. Like Myanmar. Like Zimbabwe. JUST like EVERY OTHER COUNTRY, where the PEOPLE live their lives as they are TOLD to. Strangled by the RULES and the REGULATIONS and the DICTATES, from on High.
It's already happening. Just ask BOEING. Ask any Coal Miner, who's livelihood, and ability to FEED HIS FAMILY, is now being threatened. Ask the people of Arizona. Ask the Farmers in California. Ask the LITTLE KIDS, who's LEMONADES STANDS have been SHUT DOWN, for lack of Papers, Permits, Tax Numbers.
"HALT! You're papers, please."

I think an even more frightening prospect is Obama refuses to listen to his advisers, albeit inept in their own right, and is running the show himself.
Endless anecdotal stories of comments by Obama describing himself as the smartest, most knowledgeable person in any given room, at any given moment.

Think about it. What political adviser in his right mind would allow a president to make such an inane statement like the did on Monday:

“Messiah” Obama

“Can two walk together, except they be agreed” (Amos 3:2)?

On February 24, Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, before a black audience, formally “anointed” the “Messiah”:

"You are the instruments that God is going to use to bring about universal change, and that is why Barack has captured the youth. And he has involved young people in a political process that they didn't care anything about. That's a sign. When the Messiah speaks, the youth will hear, and the Messiah is absolutely speaking."

But who is Louis Farrakhan, the “messenger” heralding America’s “Messiah”? And what latent symbiosis exists between him and person who may become our next president? His words may reveal the answer:
White people are potential humans…. they haven’t evolved yet (Louis Farrakhan, The Philadelphia Inquirer, March 2000).
You [Jews] are wicked deceivers of the American people. You have sucked their blood (Louis Farrakhan, Savior's Day Speech, Chicago, February 25, 1996).

They call them terrorists [Hezbollah], I call them freedom fighters (Louis Farrakhan, District Council 33 Union Hall, Philadelphia, April 22, 1996).

Terrorism, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder (Louis Farrakhan, as cited in Mattias Gardell, In the Name of Elijah Muhammad, Duke University Press, December 1996).

In 1964, more moderate fellow Nation of Islam member Malcolm X revealed that their leader Elijah Muhammad had impregnated several of his teenage secretaries. An outraged Farrakhan responded: "Only those who wish to be led to hell, or to their doom, will follow Malcolm. The die is set, and Malcolm shall not escape, especially after such evil, foolish talk about his benefactor; such a man is worthy of death…." Malcolm's pregnant wife and four daughters witnessed the fulfillment of Farrakhan’s prophecy ten weeks later in Harlem's Audubon Ballroom.

In December 2007, Obama’s church and pastor publicly honored Minister Louis Farrakhan with the Trumpeter award, accompanied with a hagiographic eulogy in the church’s Trumpet periodical. Rev. Jeremiah Wright further alluded to Farrakhan as a man who “truly epitomized greatness.”

More recently, Obama found it politically expedient to disassociate himself from affiliations with Farrakhan, Wright, and other black leaders, but not the obeisance they bestowed regarding his “Messiahship.” However, considering the affinity of these men in recent decades, the question remains:

“Can two walk together, except they be agreed” (Amos 3:2)?

You are absolutely right on that. And I graduated from public school in the late 60's. Wish my old mother was still alive so that I could admit that she was right on that one. She never could figure out how so many of her kids had alien ideas. She would be very relieved that at least two of us have seen the left for the nonsense it is.

But I must disagree about how the left treats women -- especially in politics. While they ring around "mother mary" in supportive (and purposeful) worship, they have a distinct aversion to women in politics. I was astounded by how they treated HRC and it was my tuning in to see some actual even handed treatment on Greta van Susteren's Fox program that began to unwrap the wool from my eyes.

People capable of that kind of fulsome praise are not going to be rational when their God, their Lightworker, their greatest President since Washington, their flashpoint in human evolution, gets booted from office over his many policy failures. They will be incapable of seeing any honorable motives in his opponents or any defects in his administration. If he loses his re-election bid, which seems increasingly likely, they are going to throw racism accusations like confettie on New Year's Eve.
