So Much for Those Unbreakable Bonds

The incoherence of President Obama’s approach to peace in the Middle East is mind-boggling.

If you hear President Obama speak about the “unbreakable bonds” between the United States and Israel then chances are he has probably just said or done something to fritter away at those bonds.

We heard this when he hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last July at the White House after the row he started on settlements in East Jerusalem. Of course, we heard it again last Sunday during his speech in Washington before the American-Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) following his declaration days earlier that any peace between Israeli and the Palestinians would be based on 1967 borders prior to the Six Day War. Somehow I don’t think it will be the last time those words will traverse his lips during the course of his presidency. In which case, we can look forward to more trouble between the Obama Administration and Israel.

Yet one must ask why President Obama goes out of his way to cause so much trouble with our staunchest ally and the most viable democracy in the Middle East? Well, because Obama believes he can get away with it. After all, if there is anything his left-wing base despises more than this country and its traditions, it is Israel. As for alienating Jewish voters let us not forget that Obama garnered 78% of the Jewish vote in 2008 despite his association with anti-Israel figures like the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers and Rashid Khalidi. For many Jews in this country, Israel and its survival is either not important to them and or in some instances the mere mention of the Jewish state provokes outright hostility. Quite frankly President Obama could appear in full Nazi regalia, sporting a toothbrush mustache with his arm extended shouting, “Sieg Heil!” and still get a majority of the Jewish vote in this country.

Now some of you might think such a sentiment unduly harsh. But if one cares about Israel and its fate one might want to pay attention not only to President Obama’s attitude towards the Jewish State but to the demands he makes of it. With this in mind let us give further scrutiny to his remarks to AIPAC. On one hand, President Obama states, “No country can be expected to negotiate with a terrorist organization sworn to its destruction.” But in the very next paragraph he says, “no matter how hard it may be to start meaningful negotiations under current circumstances, we must acknowledge that a failure to try is not an option.” So, in other words, while Israel shouldn’t expect to negotiate with a terrorist organization, failure to negotiate with a terrorist organization is not an option. The incoherence of President Obama’s approach to peace in the Middle East is mind-boggling.

Allow me to provide one more example. While Obama acknowledged “that peace cannot be imposed on the parties to the conflict,” he could not restrain himself from saying that negotiations had to proceed on the basis of the 1967 borders “because we can’t afford to wait another decade, or another two decades, or another three decades to achieve peace.” So let me get this straight. Peace cannot be imposed from without but must be because we cannot wait.

But why can’t we wait another thirty years for peace in the Middle East? Suppose that by 2041 Palestinian schools stopped teaching their children to hate Jews. Suppose that by 2041 the Palestinian Authority were to stop naming their streets and soccer fields after suicide bombers. Suppose that by 2041 Palestinians were to stop dancing in the streets and handing out candy to their children when Jewish babies were murdered. Suppose that in thirty years time the Palestinians produced a leadership that was not only willing to live side by side with Israel but was able to accept it as a Jewish state. Wouldn’t it be better for Israel to negotiate under those conditions? Wouldn’t it be worth the wait?

Well, President Obama can’t wait. The President after all has his legacy to think about. While the death of Osama bin Laden is a big feather in his cap, it isn’t enough. He must earn his Nobel Peace Prize and become the Peace President. This means a new Middle East peace agreement now even if it is one in which in Israel is asked to surrender more land for promises the Palestinians have no intention of keeping. In which case so much for those unbreakable bonds.

Well, it's clear he is only reading and doesn't even know what he is saying, for example, he allows as how one cannot negotiate with an entity sworn to their destruction, but not trying to do so, is not an option. I am sooo tired of looking at him, or listening to him!

I revisited the recent Oval Office video with Obama and Netanyahu. First there was the nonending bore of Obama blathering on and on. Then Netanyahu, who adeptly began with points of agreement- Obama nodded and nodded until that point when he sensed Netanyahu was about to defend the borders of Israel. Then Obama froze. And he stared. And he held his face like a scared baby who needed reassurance. There was no Rev. Wright to help him then and you could see his throat swallow with a little gulp of fear. I guess his ear itches when he's scared, so he scratched it like a trapped animal right there in the Oval Office. And when Netayahu was done, Obama rushed out to shake his hand lest someone say he was petulant and frosted, which he was.

What fun, except that it is really all about life and death to the Israeli people.

Actually, it’s not. If you think of Obama as a high school thug vandalizing school property then the incoherence of his rationale makes total sense. Destroying American and her allies is a stone simple strategy; it’s his goal. He doesn’t need gravitas or nuance to gain acceptance. Basic end-to-end scorched earth to achieve his Leftist goals will do just fine. When will commentators drop their tortured analysis of the situation and see this reptile for what he is? Basically, we’ve got a traitor in the White House. How’s that for analyzing the situation?

If the President imposes his will then he will have established the conditions for a conflagration - this is unacceptable.

You cannot achieve peace by making Israel vulnerable. That is clear.

Sorry, occam, but the many, many liberal Jewish Democrats I know and live and work with do NOT hate themselves at all. They are bright, warm, educated, intelligent cultured people, who live life fully, are grateful to America for the free democratic home it has been to the Jewish people. They are strongly supportive of Israel, as well as a myriad of charitable causes. The are, in short, among the finest people I've ever known.

Methinks you have been in the frigid Lutheren northlands too long, and have come to think of your fellow-Jews in the negative stereotypes of others. Don't project self-hating onto the great majority of the Jewish community. It doesn't fit.

When my Catholic parents moved our family from the Irish ghetto in which we lived in Brooklyn, they intentionally chose a largely Jewish suburb on Long Island because it was a neighborhood of strong family values, respect for education, strong charitable instincts, and just good, decent people. They were delighted to send me to Hebrew School in the afternoons along with my friends after school, even though they remained devout Catholics and I did my service as an altar boy in the mornings. I still find those same positive values in the liberal Jewish communities today.

Obama's Green Light for Genocide Do not pretend to know the thoughts and intents of our President's heart, but after his Thursday Mideast outline for "peace," it became painfully obvious that the plan as imposed would facilitate a Post-WW2 genocide. Then, did he add the changing political climate in the Muslim world? Does he, (do we), have any idea what the attitude of these new political socities will engender regarding Israel Can he predict that the atmosphere then will be better for negotiations? No, he can't, nor can anyone else predict the future. So why not now? And if not now, when?

Then he has the outrageous audacity to claim, "Quite frankly if President Obama would appear in full Nazi regalia, sporting a toothbrush musatche with his arm extended shouting "Sieg Heil" and still get a majority of the Jewish vote in this country" What a horrendous slap in the face of we children and relatives of those who suffered the Holocaust.

You give away your age da monk. I say you are no older than 30 and public education. Really? Hmmm, outrageous? Well, hate to break that little bubble but it actually happened. Many of the Jews in Germany did in fact believe that Hitler did not mean what he said, they did not leave the country, did not have major political issues with national socialism and some to this day have made statements that if it were not for the 'kill the jew thing' they would have been good national socialists. Got some more news for you, the majority of holocaust survivors did not come to the US. As far as Mr. Goldstein being perplexed as to why American Jews have primarily been leftist and left leaning as it makes no sense, this question has plagued people of good sense and study for decades. Can he predict the atmosphere, you ask. The answer, yes. It is based on three thousand years of recorded history, the last century of conflict, and the current rantings and objectives of the enemies of Israel and most likely his personal experience of a lifetime. What planet do you live on?

But on the same note: How many Americans followed Father Coughlin?, The Silver Shirts?, The Bund?, The American Firsters? The Klu Klux Klan?, in the same period of time and even after? What do you say about those folks. As far as Goldstein basing it on 3000 years of history. I base my "knowledge" on 6000 years of history of being a scapegoat!

With due respect to all on this site who question what motivates this disaster of a President if you haven't read this books, please read D'Souza's, The Roots of Obams Rage and Corsi's, The Obama Nation. The Roots of Obams Rage lays out in great detail items such as:
Why Obama wants to make America's superposer status a thing of the past, Why Obama's economic policies are designed to make America poorer compared to the rest of the world, why he cannot support Israel vs Muslim countrys.
Corsi's Obama Nation presents in great detail: Obama's extensive connection with radical politics, Obama and Michelle's twenty year long religious affiliation with black liberation theology and Jeeremah Wright, Obama's anit-war, antinuclear foreign policies.
Anyone who reads the above books will completely understand what is going on with this administration. All the question will be answered and his roadmap will be exposed for all to understand.
