Jay...thanks for this beautiful essay on a sweet family that I can't get out of my mind since last week's Sabbath. I was visiting Israel two years ago during Purim and have many pictures of the festively costumed children, parents and even dogs. Many were carrying baskets of goodies to friends and neighbors. It breaks my heart to see innocence shattered in cold blood. Yet as you point out we see a glimpse of God peek through the brutality as a remnant remains. The escalation of evil gives me hope that Light will shine even brighter.

I haven't felt this sad about an event and its aftermath in quite a long time. I'm not suprised at the viciousness and cruelty of the Palestinians. A while back one of them intentionally blew himself up standing next to a baby carriage. And they celebrated that event as well.
What truly saddens me is the response of what passes for western "civilization" in the 21st century. It continues on its path to oblivion undeterred by the evil that is pushing it there. And it will arrive if not enough of us do something effective to stop it. I'm talking about our lives, our families and friends, our country and our civilization. I'm afraid that commenting on blogs and voting will not be enough although unloading the current government would be a good start.
These murders are a microcosm of what threatens all of us if we don't stop this evil in its tracks. I'm the son of a holocaust survivor (Auschwitz) so I got the lesson straight from the horse's mouth. And I'm preparing myself for this battle, whatever it takes.

I posted a quick rememberance to my facebook page (as well as a longer note concerning the cult of death that the Palestinians under Islam have become). If I were in Congress I would introduce a bill that would cut off all humanitarian aid to the PLA and the Palestinian people. After all, humanitarian aid should go to humans. And the Palestinians are not human. Sure, there may be some who were shocked and saddened, but they are few and far between. The rest have been bred to hate and to destroy and to kill - what little civilization they have will be gone soon.

The Palestinians use "occupation" as their excuse to target Jews/Israelis. Cannot Israel use "murder" and "self-defense" as their excuse to remove the thorn in their side?

John: You need to learn some history as well as some humanity. Zionism is simply based on the yearning of the Jewish people to live in peace in their historic home. This could have been possible, as King Abdullah of Jordan and others recognized. Let's review the historical record for just one moment: Jews had lived in the Holy Land for millenia. By 1875, they were a majority of Jerusalem's population and had sizeable population centers elsewhere in Palestine. After the break-up of the Ottoman Empire and the aftermath of World War I, Britain was given trusteeship over the territory of Palestine by the League of Nations for the express purpose of "creating a national homeland for the Jewish people" there. This could have been done in consonance with respect for the existing rights of both the Arabs who lived in the area AND the tens of thousands of Arabs who flooded into the region to take advantage of the growing economic activity resulting from Jewish immigration. The British even took 2/3 of the Palestine Mandate given them, and set up a Palestinian Arab state they called "TransJordan", placing the sone of the former Sharif of Mecca on its throne. Then the British abandoned their commitment to set up a Jewish homeland in the remaining one-third. The United Nations carefully proposed carving what remained of the little left of Palestine into yet another Palestinian Arab state and a much smaller Jewish state. But the Arabs rejected this proposal, attacked the new Jewish state, and when the dust settled after the Arab defeat, two Arab countries -- Egypt and Jordan -- seized what should have been the new Arab Palestine and annexed it to their countries. What did the Palestinian Arabs do then? The Palestinian National Assembly voted overwhelmingly to be incorporated into Jordan, which they correctly proclaimed to be Arab Palestine. That state destroyed the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem, banned Jews from their holy sites, and desecrated the synagogues and Jewish holy sites in their control. When the Jews recaptured the Old City after the 1967 war, what did they do? They immediately returned control over Al Aqsa and the Dome of the Rock to the Islamic Waqf.

It's not a pretty history from the Islamic side. Incorporation of the Arabs into Israel proper would mean the death of the Jewish state, not to mention the physical annihilation of hundreds of thousands of Jewish families just like the Fogels. That is just not going to happen. Never. The Palestinian Arabs may be a great people, but they have been ill-served by their leaders and the leaders of their fellow Arab states. They have, as Churchill famously said, "never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity" for peace and reconcilliation.

A sizable number of Israelis are Christian, too. And they enjoy full rights, far more so, in fact, than under Arab Muslim rule. So what? The point is that Israelis do not go about slitting the throats of innocent unarmed families. Nor do they celebrate such acts.

Arab Muslims, however, do both. And they have a long history of it. (Check out what happened that hot day in the streets of Hebron in 1929 or that day at an elementary school in Ma' alot in 1974). The lack of condemnation by Arabs over the Fogel murders is damning. But then, it could have been predicted.

The Palestinians have thier state; Isreal provides them with free electricity, free water, and the UN pours in more than $20 billion a year in aide. Yet, the average Palestinian wants out of thier own murderous corrupt society. The others, high off the blood of Jews and filled with hate want nothing more than slaughter. The Palestinians are a internationally subsidized group of killers.

BTW, the Palestinians are not in fact from Palestine. The majority of them are from Jordan and Egpyt.

Our political leaders, to a man or woman, are so deceived by the rhetoric of islam that it leads to mindless, animalistic atrocities like this perpetrated by whole societies of like-minded-less animals I.E. THE CELEBRATION IN GAZA.

I will NEVER believe that an adherent of islam is capable of any other kind of existence....AND , therefore should be treated in the same manner.

Well, John, now that you've brought up the subject of Nazi atrocities...Are you aware that Hitler and the Islamic spiritual leader of Palestine Jerusalem -- i.e., "the Grand Mufti" -- were in fact close allies? Are you aware that in the early Forties they made a deal by which Muslims would kill any Jews trying to escape Europe by settling in the Palestine territory? The Palestinians do have a homeland and that is Jordan (previously Palestine). However Jordan does not want them because they are trouble makers. Please don't tell me that Islam is a religion of peace. What real he men slip in through a window and kills parents and small children including a three year old and 3 months old baby. Every time I read this story I cry.
I am enraged these barbaric butchers are still breathing. I am furious that my tax money is given to these demons. I believe most Americans are horrified at this revelation of funding for muslim butchers.

Bulldoze their "town" and drive them over the river. Give them 1 hour to pack their knives and bombs or suffer the consequences.

When I think of that poor girl finding her family slaughtered, how hard it is going to be for her and her remaining siblings, words fail.
